  • The Georgia DNR recently announced their proposed changes for the next two years of hunting regulations. Included in those are several changes for deer season, mainly in the southwest portion of the state. In this video, I break down those changes and what they mean for Georgia deer hunters.

Nice job and thanks for the review. I live in CT, but my son is in Atlanta, and I'm hoping to get at least one hunt in Georgia this year. Maybe a good video for my channel. I'll look forward to your tips on how to apply for some of the lottery hunts.

I wish the WMAs seasons were the same as those on private property.

Good info here. The only note I'll add is I believe the cutoff to submit comments to the GA DNR about these hunting regulations changes is actually February 6th instead of February 16th as stated here. At least 2/6/2023 is the comment deadline that's published on the GA DNR website.

Jimmy, you are correct. Unfortunately I saw that after the video had been uploaded. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Been missing your videos. Did you all get any hunting footage from this past deer season?

Not being limited to weekend only hunting I enjoyed the Jan 15th closing of deer season. I understand that’s not the norm for everybody though. Already itching for September!

I'm in Thomas County and I'm happy to see the extended late archery season here. I'm not thrilled with extending rifle season longer, but it is what it is. I'm the only one who archery hunts among my neighbors so it's nice to have the woods to myself for those weeks before rifle season. Making those counties buck only for the first couple weeks is a good plan. I saw quite a few very young fawns in late July and August this year in my area. I've got the next couple days off so I'll be heading over to Decatur County for late archery to try and get at least one more deer in the freezer and hopefully fill my 2nd buck tag.

What about the extended archery hunting through the end of January like this year?

These proposed changes would not take place until the 2023-2024 deer season. Currently, there is an extended archery season in the following counties: Barrow, Bibb, Chatham, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Columbia, Decatur, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Muscogee, Paulding, Rockdale, and Seminole.

Awesome! Did you change the name of your channel from Georgia afield?

Yeah, I changed it a while back to expand the channel's potential reach, although much of the content will still focus on Georgia. Thanks for watching!
