At home I use a puck screen (mesh). It’s amazing how clean it keeps my machine.
I do need to clean the mesh regularly though.

Any recommendations for cleaning shower screens that don't have a central screw? My current place has just a flat screen but I'd LOVE to get it out and see how dirty it is under there.

Most likely you just have to pry it out with a screwdriver or the back of a spoon. Should pop right out with a little force.
