Forest Macro Photography

In which I go out into the forest to do some macro photography, and get so absorbed in just wandering around that I almost forget to take any photographs.

Mark, your videos are great to watch, especially when you have to stay at home. For now, my sinuses won't allow me to go out for a photo shoot, but it's also nice to walk with you. I live in an area where you can meet brown bears, I don't like seeing them, but in the forest you take photos of mushrooms and look around.

Just came across your channel and so glad I did. I'm a street photographer but seeing your work, hearing the bird song gives me the inspiration to head out to a forest, wood location. You have such a relaxed way of working and love the human side where things don't always go to plan and you bring the humour element into it.

Another great video. My macro lens is getting repaired so your videos are giving me my macro fix. I actually enjoyed all the bird songs in the background.

Glad you're still getting that fix! Funny you should mention the birds - when I was editing the video I thought people might think I'd added those sounds afterwards, but that's just how it was on the day.

I have a small panel similar to yours too, and depending on how I want the lighting it can be better then a flash. Sometimes I use it to under-light as you do but sometimes I like the separation the shadows give. Sometimes it's good just to exchange ideas, and now I'm going to have to spend some time focus stacking.
Keep up the good work, I find inspiration in your videos.

Glad you’re enjoying the videos! I totally agree that sometimes shadows really make the image. Flash certainly has its place, but I also like the subtlety you can achieve with an LED light just by moving it very small amounts. Good luck with your focus stacking!

Thanks! The smaller light I use is an Aputure MC, and the larger tube light is a Nanlite PavoTube II 6C.

@@MarkMorganPhotography thx! I use a cygnustech diffuser for my macro. But an extra light is also nice, even in combination with a flash
