Great to have you back, Duane Metal! I hope you're wrong about them disbanding, of course, but as always, OTFGK! I was also very disappointed when Mikiko-sensei was so rudely kicked out of the Olympics project. There's a fan video that combines a BM concert with the Olympics ceremony, and it's so much nicer than what we actually got!
Thank you for your insight and interpretation....I have always valued your videos, and the deep "dive" they have provided into Babymetal and the Japanese language...You are a true scholar and teacher, and iconic to the "Babymetal universe"...absolutely essential to hear from you at this time....Thank YOU!
Duane, I'm so glad that I stayed subscribed to your channel. It's great to see a new video from you. While it would be sad to see BabyMetal disband, it is understandable. For me, at least, they haven't seemed like the same group the past few years. Yui leaving had a big impact, but Su and Moa now being in their 20s has a big impact as well. While Metal Galaxy was a great album, it was very different from previous albums. Musically, the songs were less feel good songs and more of an attempt at serious music with a wider audience appeal. What was cute when they were teens is harder to pull off as adults. They can't really be described as "Kawaii Metal any longer. If they do disband, who knows what the future holds, Perhaps Su and Moa will form a different group. While they talk about their love of metal, I don't really believe it is their favorite genre. They were cast into a metal group rather than choosing to be metal artists. Then again, maybe they just need a break from the industry. They spent most of their childhood practicing, recording, and touring. They missed a lot of things that most kids take for granted. Perhaps they just want to live a normal life for a bit, or dial the rock star lifestyle back a bit. Or, it could be none of those things. We'll findout at some point. Again, great to see a new video from you. Take care and stay safe.

I completely agree with you regarding the Olympic opening ceremony. It was so sad to see how dull it was, it really should have been the greatest ceremony of all time!
Oh my goodness gracious, I thought RUclips was malfunctioning when it listed your video in my subscription tab after all this time. I'm not sold on the "disband" theory, though, not based on one cryptic message.
Welcome back Duane Metal Sensei! Happy to see you are ok! I discovered BABYMETAL during lockdown and got immediately interested in japanese language. Absolutely wonderful to see you back on youtube, Duane. I'm also glad you seem to have avoided the COVID plague. Thanks for all the BABYMETAL news. If the band does cease operations, it would indeed be grim. Also, very fascinating about the Olympics and how BABYMETAL almost might have played at the ceremony. I'd love to have seen the fan reaction to that! Anyway, great to see you back and healthy.
Thank you for not forgetting me. :-) I'm doing fine with two vaccinations. Regarding the Olympics, someone composed an imaginary Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony with BM video and put it on RUclips. I watched it several times and it's very well edited. A great job. I recommend you watch it.
So good to see you again! I was getting concerned that something had gone wrong with your health. I must admit my learning of Japanese has not been happening as quickly compared to when you were releasing your videos. I am looking forward to learning and enjoying more from you. May the Fox God go with you.
I apologize Duane - I was logged into my non-metal RUclips account when I wrote the above post. I chose Deru as a close approximation to my real first name "Dale" when I became a member of The One in its first year as Deru-Metal. I know it's not a great choice but shoganai!
I really don't think we're looking at disbandment. In a Young Guitar interview in January, Kobametal was asked about what ideas he had for guitar work on the next Babymetal album, and rather than playing coy or something he gave a pretty straightforward answer about things he's interested in exploring. Personally, I think that Kobametal will keep Babymetal going for as long as upper management and Babymetal themselves allow him to do so because Babymetal is a perfect project for experimenting with his most beloved genre of music. It's almost certainly impossible for him to access a global audience with a brand new metal project if Babymetal comes to an end.
You may be right, but Koba metal doesn't have a right to exploit the young girls. They are not slaves. They should be free to do whatever they want to do in their lives.
@@DuaneMetal I've seen people express this concern before, but I don't understand it. Whether it's because they actually love what they get to perform, or because it's too reckless to abandon a successful project just to roll the dice again, they haven't shown a single sign of wanting to do anything else in this whole ten years, have they?
Great to see you and know you are well! Thank you for doing this video. I will be really sad if this is truly the end of Babymetal. 💔 But since they are still so young, perhaps they will continue into other projects or some new incarnation of the group. That said, if the end is near it sure has been a fun time! We got to see Babymetal live twice, both times they played Kansas City on their US tours. We don’t live in KC, took a road trip to get there, and what great memories of our trips and those concerts! Plus we’ll always have the music. So if it is over, I would say to them “thank you” and wish them well always. And thank you for all your time and work doing the Japanese language videos for us.
Great to have you back, Duane-sensei, and of course I hope you're wrong about Babymetal's FUUIN. Consensus is that it's just another Kobametal shenanigan, and they will only put a seal on the Metal Galaxy phase, and immediately follow that up by announcing the start of Metal Universe, or something similar. Matanai wa ikenai desho ka? We'll have to wait and see. As for Mikiko and the Olympics, that has been my dream as well, but alas, Mikiko's original concept for the opening and closing ceremonies has since been leaked to the Internet, and BM unfortunately was not part of the show. And don't forget that Mikiko also does all of PERFUME's choreography, so they would have been another contender. Well, bygones! ;-)
i'm also glad that you are back Duane! we missed you a lot! but i just wanted to point out that the baby in babymetal does not literally mean baby. it stands for new. the birth of the new metal. a new genre. babymetal was the first kawaii metal band. you can read this in the lore of legend I.
Welcome back Duane sensei! Another interpretation may be a "death and rebirth" as a different concept. The Fox God likes riddles! Anyway, 日本に行きたくてしょうがない。
Duane Sensei! It is so good to see you, I was just thinking about you with the Babymetal announcements today and went to check your channel and somehow I completely missed that you started uploading again! I'm glad to see that you are well, and I want to thank you as I have learned so so much from your videos. I hope you are doing well today!
Hi, Duane I'm glad you're back and doing fine.. I almost didn't recognize this is a more recent video because the stuff at your back barelly changed over these years lol.. I really enjoyed your other videos and learned a lot from them.. Thanks a lot and happy new year!👍🏻
Thank you for the post. Years ago I was fortunate to be able to live in Japan for six months and took a semester or two of Japanese before I went overseas. I have forgotten much of what I learned, but have begun to try and recapture some of my chops with Japanese as my kids have sparked an interest in many Japanese television programs and also Babymetal music. I admit I make a terrible translator for them, but I can eke out a few words or phrases every now and then. Without understand exactly what is being said I can usually pick up the nature of what is being said based upon how it is being spoken. For that there is no other language like Japanese that uses the vocal tones so effectively to express the feelings of the person speaking the words. Anyway, thanks for the post and I will be your newest subscriber today. Arigato!
Welcome to the channel! Your perception is very true. Japanese language puts many different emotions on tones and the small particle at the end of a word.
@@DuaneMetal I have been buried in work projects these last several weeks, but am now able to again spend some time going thru your extensive library of videos again. I may take a long time to completely catch up to where you last left off, but I will try and am resisting skipping ahead and into your latest. It might be tough to do as it sounds like BM is indeed planning on continuing their quest for world domination much like I had hoped for. Sure hoping BM will come to the US on another tour to support their new album (I am thinking they are using this time to develop some new music, choreography and stage concepts) which I hope is announced soon. I did see where BM was still scheduled to play the Knotfest (forgive me if I screwed up the exact name of the festival) though I have also been told that the event has been finally cancelled after being postponed twice and that people were able to get their tickets returned for refunds from the promoters. That aside, I saw that there was an announcement for a Download Festival in Germany this next Summer following the three day event in the UK. Saboton and several other groups that BM has been on prior festival bills with are noted, but I didn’t see any mention of BM in the lineup. Perhaps this will change soon? Cheers from Sacramento. - Eric dozoyorishiku
If this is truly the end... I think many of us would appreciate one more set of videos fro myou for the MEtal galaxy songs. If its going to be sealed... maybe we can leave no loose ends??
I'm glad to see you back and it's great to hear your thoughts on the direction of the band. I just hope that even if BABYMETAL disbands Su continues to sing!
How wonderful to see you back Duane-metal! and so great to hear your thoughts on the babymetal situation. Also great to see you are a Ningen isu fan! I was very lucky to see Ningen Isu in London in 2020, 2 days before I saw Babymetal!!!
Really? That's great. Ningen Isu lyrics are rooted in Tohoku region dialect, spirit, and religion. I think they are very hard for foreigners to understand.
@@DuaneMetal yes it was a very special show in London! It was sold out and most of the crowd were Japanese who had travelled from all over UK and and Europe. They have gained a cult following abroad now. Fantastic band. Would love to see your breakdown of the lyrics!
In my language studies in US... I find that literal translation and study of grammatical differences while speaking English using the foreign grammar makes learning the other language. I am open to other methods of learning languages. Thank you for a lesson using a different method. :)
Hi Duane, I was wondering if you were going to continue doing your videos since the new Babymetal song came out? I hope you do since it has helped me out a lot with the lyrics and figuring out the meaning. Thanks for all of the videos!
Thank you for your comment. I listened to the new song, but it didn’t thrill me as much as I expected. I’m afraid I won’t do a video about it. Sorry. Please enjoy the previous ones.
@@DuaneMetal I completely understand. Neither of their new songs are quite the same to me as their older songs. Either way, thank you again for making such great videos. A girl in my Japanese class also likes Babymetal so I immediately told her about your videos so she can better understand the lyrics too.
I just discovered this channel and I love it! Thank you so much for the videos Duane; you have a fantastic personality too! I am always leaving the videos with a smile on my face
Great to see you again Duane. Hope you are well? Has it really been 5 years?! I do hope BABYMETAL are just taking a well deserved break during the pandemic & will be back even stronger than before. I think Su & Moa seem very happy as BABYMETAL when we see them on stage & in interviews so I hope they want to continue. Koba has said in interviews that the decision to continue is theirs so lets hope they love doing it as much as we love hearing them & watching them. For now.. Only The Fox God Knows!
I missed you! It was a beautiful adventure to learn Japanese with you and Babymetal 😍. Perhaps Babymetal will take the next step and start a new chapter. Perhaps you will take the next step and we will learn Japanese with X-Japan 🥰?
It's good to see you again.... Glad you are doing well. I hope to see you return to the lessons one day... The one song I'm most interested isn't in your list... I'm simply In love with the lyrics to the Black Babymetal song GJ and would love a lesson or three covering that song... Take care Duane Metal.... See you!
Did I miss this song? Maybe I did. Sorry. I decided not to translate their song Sis Anger because it contains a number of curse/dirty words that I didn't want to say in public.
Welcome back sir :-D I do not follow BM's progress, because I have the impression that after Yui left, the band changed a bit. There is too much "lalalala ..." and too much electronics for my taste. Besides, I've always been a bigger fan of BlackBM than of BM itself, and without Yui, that's not the same. For what you say sounds interesting, let's see what will "grow" of it. And although I do not follow the activities of BM anymore, the girls have become a permanent element in my heart, because thanks to him I discovered other fantastic Japanese rock bands: my beloved Scandal, Mand-Maid, Nemophila and many, many others. And I started to be interested in Japan in general and I belive that someday I will go there and see it all with my own eyes, and of course I will see some rock concerts: D. Once again, hello again and I hope this is not a one-time jump. ( And traditionally sorry for my English. )
To me what is missing compared to Babymetal with Yuimetal is the second "scream"/yell/"background" vocals. I don't enjoy Babymetal less, but it's different from before and it's noticeable.
Yay, you are back! Seeing the notification that there is a new video from you was almost as much of a surprise as hearing the intro to Syncopation in Brixton. :-) Good to see you again, even if the occasion is not the most pleasant. I'm very worried that they might be disbanding. The lore does really make it sound like they do. On the other hand, it has sounded like that before, yet they always continued. The lore is nothing that should be taken too literally. Although I would agree that if they ever intended to end it before the girls get too old, now would probably be an appropriate time. On the other hand, I'm not sure whether I agree with your reasoning regarding the name. If I'm not mistaken, in one of your first videos you explained yourself that the name BABYMETAL doesn't primarily refer to their age, but to the newborn genre. Granted, the genre is also ten years old now, but it's still as fresh as it was back then. The girls have developed since that time, and I think they did a pretty good job at finding a new balance without losing the kawaii side completely. They are doing pretty well in their current form, don't you think? Also, there were some comments from Japanese fans that eased my worries a bit: The actual wording was something like the legend being sealed. It seems like it's more obvious to the Japanese fans that the word "legend" refers to the live shows in BABYMETAL context. It does sound plausible, given that most of their big shows are using the "legend" moniker. So it might just mean that they are going to pause doing live shows, which makes total sense given the current situation. If we are lucky, they are using the time to create some new music. Having said that, I can't help but feel bad about it. My gut feeling about this is not a good one. :-(
Yes, lores like this has been repeated and we shouldn't be too surprised at each time. They may come back. The question is if they can put on a better quality shows than now, and my gut feeling is it will be difficult.
WOW...so insightful...."they are not babies anymore"...wow...you know, I never thought of that...at least consciously...Yui left before "adulthood"...and I guess, I held on to the girls, "where they were"...not realizing they are adults now...they have lived in this role for 10 YEARS!!! Su and Moa, deserve the opportunity to evolve....I would LOVE Babymetal to continue...but perhaps there could be a chance at an evolution, and reinterpretation of the original concept...both individually, and as a collective...?
Thank you for the video. Sadly I think you're right, and your imaginary scenario for the Opening Ceremony makes it all seem the more sad. And thanks for the shouganai bonus. You can do a lot more with it than "it can't be helped"!
Very good to see you, Duane Metal ! I had very much the same Olympic dream. BABYMETAL or not, it was a huge loss to Japan and to the world for petty tyrants to deny us Mikiko-san's magic.

Ok, Deru. It's a good name. I've been perfectly fine. I understand your situation. Please keep your recurrent studies. :-)
They cannot voice their personal desires outright, but I've heard Su has something to achieve and Moa wants to study Psychology in college.
not breaking up, nor changing names, just a break to work out a fab fourth album.
Glad to have you back!! 🦊🤟🏻
Kansas City, here they came. You must have had a blast. Whatever happened to BM, their music lives long.
Welcome back! Missed you!
Welcome back! So happy to see you again 😊
We miss you! Welcome back
Nice to see you back! Plenty of great new songs really need to be dissected.
Oh wow I never thought you'd be back! That's so freaking awesome! Bringing back so many memories!
Good to see old friends. Thank you for coming back.
Well, bygones! ;-)
Yes, shenanigans, very likely. Perfume could also appear on stage. That must've been a rare occassion: having two together.
i'm also glad that you are back Duane! we missed you a lot! but i just wanted to point out that the baby in babymetal does not literally mean baby. it stands for new. the birth of the new metal. a new genre. babymetal was the first kawaii metal band. you can read this in the lore of legend I.
Yes, I know, and I was talking about them in my earlier videos, but even those definitions have become stale after all 10 years of time.
Wow, wow, wow. Welcome back! I am so happy.
We missed you sensei, welcome back!
Good to see you back
It's great to see you're doing fine! Glad you're back.
damn, completely forgot about this channel, nice to see you back, please continue beeing awesome 🤍
Welcome back Duane sensei! Another interpretation may be a "death and rebirth" as a different concept. The Fox God likes riddles! Anyway, 日本に行きたくてしょうがない。
You are right. Fox God likes that idea (or reasoning). Come when peace got brought back.
Good to know you came back. Thank you. I'm doing fine. Stay healthy and hungry for new knowledge.
Nice to see the channel is back
so nice to see you back .
Hi, Duane
I'm glad you're back and doing fine..
I almost didn't recognize this is a more recent video because the stuff at your back barelly changed over these years lol..
I really enjoyed your other videos and learned a lot from them..
Thanks a lot and happy new year!👍🏻
Thank you for coming back. Ha ha ha. I'm still in my old office doing routine work. Nothing much has changed .....
@@ericchild8845 Yes, they may appear on stage after the pandemic. Only Fox God knows. Keep your hope high.
If this is truly the end... I think many of us would appreciate one more set of videos fro myou for the MEtal galaxy songs. If its going to be sealed... maybe we can leave no loose ends??
Maybe.... OTFGK.
El momento más esperado de la televisión:
Hellooo, I'M DUANE 🦊
Good to see that your back!! I’m so pleased
I'm glad to see you back and it's great to hear your thoughts on the direction of the band. I just hope that even if BABYMETAL disbands Su continues to sing!
You can keep your fingers crossed. :-)
Welcome back. It's nice to see you again, Duane Metal!
Thanks!
Welcome back, Duane sensei 🤘
WELCOME BACK MASTER!!!!
In my language studies in US... I find that literal translation and study of grammatical differences while speaking English using the foreign grammar makes learning the other language. I am open to other methods of learning languages.
Thank you for a lesson using a different method. :)
The Return Of The King.
Ha ha!
What a great birthday gift! Great to have you back, Duane!!
Happy BD!
Man, I'm so happy to see you back
Wow. Welcome back. Great to see you!
I just discovered this channel and I love it! Thank you so much for the videos Duane; you have a fantastic personality too! I am always leaving the videos with a smile on my face
Welcome Scott, and thank you for your nice comment. I want people to be happy all the time.
Great to you see you back.
Welcome back man :D
Great to see you again Duane. Hope you are well? Has it really been 5 years?! I do hope BABYMETAL are just taking a well deserved break during the pandemic & will be back even stronger than before. I think Su & Moa seem very happy as BABYMETAL when we see them on stage & in interviews so I hope they want to continue. Koba has said in interviews that the decision to continue is theirs so lets hope they love doing it as much as we love hearing them & watching them. For now.. Only The Fox God Knows!
They seem to enjoy the show for sure, but whether they can bring the best quality show or not is a question. But keep your hope high.
It has been a long time. Thank you for the information regarding BABYMETAL.
Thanks for waiting. My pleasure.
I missed you! It was a beautiful adventure to learn Japanese with you and Babymetal 😍. Perhaps Babymetal will take the next step and start a new chapter. Perhaps you will take the next step and we will learn Japanese with X-Japan 🥰?
Ha ha. X-Japan is in hiatus. ToshI, the vocalist, is almost a comedian now, appearing in many comedy shows on TV.
Happy you are back! Thank you from Germany! Hope for more in the future!
Danke!
Glad your okay
It's good to see you again.... Glad you are doing well. I hope to see you return to the lessons one day... The one song I'm most interested isn't in your list... I'm simply In love with the lyrics to the Black Babymetal song GJ and would love a lesson or three covering that song... Take care Duane Metal.... See you!
Did I miss this song? Maybe I did. Sorry. I decided not to translate their song Sis Anger because it contains a number of curse/dirty words that I didn't want to say in public.
Welcome back sir :-D
I do not follow BM's progress, because I have the impression that after Yui left, the band changed a bit.
( And traditionally sorry for my English. )
I know what you feel and I can sympathize with you. I feel the same way. That's one of the reasons I kept silent.
Yes, I think it's time we should give them a rest and let them choose their own path of life.
Thank you for the video. Sadly I think you're right, and your imaginary scenario for the Opening Ceremony makes it all seem the more sad.
And thanks for the shouganai bonus. You can do a lot more with it than "it can't be helped"!
I share the feeling. Thanks.
変わらずお元気そうで嬉しいです
どうもです。
元気そうお久しぶり!Your videos are very helpful, I've missed learning new things from these!
Good to hear from people. Thank you for watching.
So good to see you again!! So glad you're well
Thank you. I'm doing fine.
Good to see you back :D
Very good to see you, Duane Metal ! I had very much the same Olympic dream. BABYMETAL or not, it was a huge loss to Japan and to the world for petty tyrants to deny us Mikiko-san's magic.
Yes, indeed. Someone composed an imaginary Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony with BM video and put it on RUclips. I watched it several times and it's very well edited. A great job. I recommend you watch it.
I'm glad you're still making videos it's very helpful and informative I'm enjoying it big time ⭐
Thanks very much. Please enjoy.
Oh my God! Your Channel is LEGENDARY!!
Haha, thanks.
