    Now I kinda hope your Mezco Batman breaks down as well, that you have to disect it😅 I found the dissection of the one:12 Alien very insightful!

    Fantastic video. Always enjoyable. I managed to get one of these at retail from Mezco when they opened up their stock a few months ago (it was in-stock briefly and had a very favorable wait-list situation for maybe 1-2 weeks). I'm terrified to open this figure. Between the cape issue and the powdery body and the unknowns of the rubbery body, I'm on the fence between keeping and giving away/selling. However, I sort of want to experience the rubber body tech and play around with the moving eyes feature. Such a fascinating wild card of a figure. Also:
    1) First reference I have caught of your family. I hope your collecting adventures with the fam are even more fun
    2) Michael Scott references will never get old (unironic statement)

      You know, it's unsolicited advice, but I would open that figure and play! Play for all of the children who can't, and all of the adults who a forgotten how! Play for all of the collectors who have spent their life on the fence as to open a figure, only to have it destroyed in a fire or flood! Play until the gods notice us again!
      seriously though, Mezco has Built in the philosophy of play with their One12th lineup, It's the reason that the items are presented in collector friendly packaging, with no tape or twisty ties inside or out. And the reason they give you so many accessories, even the little baggie, so you don't lose all those tiny extras, is a love note to the "open box" collectors. So in my view, the company is begging us to open these and put them through their paces, and when, or if, they are wrong we need to tell them they are wrong. They do seem like company that listens to feedback, even if they go about it in a very New York "I refuse to admit I'm wrong" kind of way.
      As for my kids, they are actually in a lot of the videos. Especially behind-the-scenes. My oldest daughter is about the biggest horror fan you can imagine, and is basically a female version of me. The highlight of her year so far was playing ghost face in the art the clown video (My younger daughter was the pale girl in that one). At school my daughter would introduce herself as part of a family who loves Aliens, Star Trek, and Star Wars in the way others lead with political affiliations or religion. I think it's in our families blood, my uncle was winning Star Wars costume contests before the word "cosplay" was even a thing, and I'm pretty sure my dad took us to Empire strikes back more than 20 times in the theater.

      @@strangeform Thank you for the advice! Also, thank you for sharing how cool your fam is. I didn't think I could like your channel more, but knowing it is a "family business" adds even more charm.

    I'm not much into the Mezco loop either but I know this one is very beloved and rare already and is sold for insane prices on the secondary market already. Mezco is just amazing in recreating the livelyhoods of real people in that small scale and what I saw their Alien and Predator figs really just seem like the weakest of their catalouge (still great though)

    Since you mentioned sealing other rubber figures in Mod Podge, I'd be curious to see a tutorial video on how to do it. I'm assuming the purpose is to keep the rubber from drying out and cracking?

    • @strangeform
      @strangeform  Год назад +3

      A tutorial video? That's a good idea, I might do this in the future. It's an old special-effects mask makers trick. When I was a teenager I really wanted to be a special-effects artist, so I learned a lot of practical effects skills (some of which I implement in these videos). But there are two products that latex mask makers and special-effects artist use to extend the longevity of latex and rubber products, and that is of course Mod Podge, but second one is the gold standard, "Plasti dip" Namely the glossifier clear coating version. It's a little difficult to get the hang of at first, as if you don't do it in a dust free environment everything will stick to the product while you're waiting for it to cure, but the stuff is like magic and has kept Many of my latex and rubber items from degrading over time. And if it's an item that you don't want to be glossy you can safely paint over the top with a flat coat or de-glosser. But, there is a caveat. Most latex products and many rubber products are organic (hence the fact that they degrade), and these products take well to chemical sealants ... However, there are some synthetic mixtures that will immediately start to break down if you use certain chemicals. This is why I mentioned wanting to know the mixture Mezco is using, I don't want to watch the thing turn into seafoam before my eyes.

      @@strangeform Fascinating, thanks so much for the in-depth response. I'll definitely have to do some more research on this stuff, as it's the first time I've ever heard of it, or at least it's applicability for preserving rubber.

      Thank you! and at first I wasn't actually all that interested in the Batman figure as well (though I do like Michael Keaton's Batman) MEZCO just really hadn't been on my radar until the Alien figures, and I felt those were a little overpriced. But this figure was the number one request I was getting, and I'm glad people drew my attention to it as it is actually a really fun figure, once you get past some of the issues. I might look into Mezco's one 12th collective line a bit more in the future (namely their predator stuff). If there are two figure sets that I would kill to see them do it's the Queen alien, and the space marines.

      It’s been a while since I bought a Mezco figure too, the last one I bought was the captain Nemo from 10,000 leagues undersea, was an amazing figure, early 2000’s but looking at your videos, they are completely new animal, thanks for the alien dissection! Was a cool insight, greetings from Mexico

      In addition, your top 10 big chap aliens video help me to choose the best big chap option for my kid, he wanted a big chap, I was divided between the Mezco and the Neca, the Neca has been a very solid toy, he actually can play with it. Better than the old Kenner aliens, mine didn’t lasted more than a few weeks and I was not a destructive kid, they snapped very easily, alien Mantis and Panther were the worst of the bunch, even the plastic of the predators was very rigid, I really believe that the quality of the materials is improving in Neca

      @Alejandro Ochoa good call, and I completely agree, neca has been in a constant state of improvement ever since they threw their hat in the action figure ring. It was interesting to watch them dethrone Mcfarlane back in the day. And great job sharing what you are into with your kid, I always love to hear that. In my experience, I always find new ways to enjoy the things I share through their eyes.

    I was thinking about the hot toys 89 but worried about the rubber suit overtime I heard you saying modge podge. Is that a solution?

  • @Genjitsu17
    @Genjitsu17 Год назад

    Apparently the powder is a substance that leaches from the rubber.

    • @strangeform
      @strangeform  Год назад +1

      I wonder about that, if that's true it would suggest that the rubber is breaking down. To me it just looked like the powder you find when you pull a rubber latex cast from the die, or the stuff you find on latex or nitrile gloves so they don't fuse together in the box. But if it's excreting from the rubber itself it should return after the figure has been stored for a little bit, I will definitely keep an eye out.

      @@strangeform *crosses fingers. Hopefully you're correct, I've seen reviews saying it came out of the rubber, but I don't own one myself.
