      There is a reason why Multiplayer games die after couple of years and that is it losses its interest. For me am a guy who plays Singleplayer games once and still rather have those once played and revisit after couple of years than a months of the same shit over and over. Friends are the reason why we play Multiplayers mostly not the games themselves.

    Props for calling out EA on their BS, this is an excellent video. They may as well have put out a press release that said "We couldn't actually care less about how enjoyable the experience players have with our games is, all that matters to us is bleeding them for as much money as possible for as long as possible."
    The lack of respect for their customers they have shown by making the comments they have is pretty disgusting. Sure all companies need to make a profit, but if that becomes your primary motivation for creating games the quality of what you produce will inevitably suffer greatly. I would advise that people make their views known using their wallets and boycott EA's games.
    Not that that will be particularly hard for me to be honest, since contrary to what EA says I have zero interest in multiplayer games, personally I just find them dull and tedious. For me the narrative of a game is by far the most important part, a good single player game will suck you in and make you feel like you're embarking on an epic adventure, it's like watching an incredible movie but with the added bonus of being able to control what the characters in the movie do. As far as i'm concerned that's where the magic in gaming is. By comparison in a typical multiplayer game the story is essentially "hurr durr lets all run around and shoot each other" which just doesn't do it for me at all. I get that some people do enjoy those types of games, which is totally fine, but to imply that is the only type of game people enjoy is just total crap.

      Guardian True,buuuutt,that kinda defeats the purpose of playing with other humans. For example; GRW,90% of the time,i jump on with randoms,they are either muting everyone, or have no mic,or muting themselves, & just listening to me,& whomever might have a mic. The other night,i played with about 30 randoms, 2 talked. With a game like GRW,you need structure,cohesion, & the ability to converse,& all be on the same page,or....I might as well play with the 3 Stooges by myself. I found similar problems with Division,except its not tacticle at all,& suppressors mean shit,so its much easier to play with non-communicating people. There is no reason to play a game like Ghost Recon Wildlands, with people on mute,you HAVE to know what the plans are,whos doing what,are we going loud,suppressors, do we have overwatch, what exactly ARE we doing,& so on. So,yea 99% of the time i play solo,at least i have some control over those idiots,vs playing with 3 humans who dont talk,& no one is communicating with eachother(or at least me),so 1/2 the time i dont do shit,till they do,& see how they are handling it,& jump in. Thats boring,& idiotic. If you play with randoms,& you dont like 1 or 2,kick or leave,till you find people you gel with. But,that gets old too,because you spend hours,bouncing around & not really playing much,because EVERYONE THINKS LIKE YOU....JUST MUTE THE WORLD,so you leave that game,join ANOTHER group,& guess what,SAME SHIT. Then you get those that just fuck around,everytime theyre near a minigun,they feel the need to shoot it......At..Whatever. Or,my favourite, being on a little bird,in the menu,& the pilot decides to jump,because THATS FUN😒😡

      Brilliant i would think Star Wars fans disproportionally care more about narrative focused experiences because that's what Star Wars generally is, highly character and narrative focused storytelling. Great, make it big and open world and non-linear, but back it up with decent characters and story. Individual development teams almost certainly care about the integrity of the IP they're working on, but EA doesn't give a crap about Star Wars, they just saw a really popular property that they can use as game as a service while banking on name recognition to get people interested regardless of what they actually do with any particular game. I really hope Disney pulls out of their 10 year deal with EA because they're not doing the property any favors. I can see the logic behind giving them the property given that they've released a few of the most popular entries in the franchise (KOTOR 1 and 2), but whatever good ideas EA may have had back then, they've completely gone astray from whatever decent things they have had going for them in the past.

    • @Lilitha11
      @Lilitha11 6 лет назад

      This is why EA gets so much shit all the time. If they put out the game, it would be hugely popular and make them a lot of money. Maybe it wouldn't make as much money as some crappy multi player game designed to milk money from the players, however they would gain a lot of credit for it. It is good marketing to put out these big games that are really popular, even if they don't make as much. However, they don't care and that is why EA has a shitty reputation about only caring about money and never thinking about the players. They do actually make some decent games now and then, but their reputation is probably the worst of any company.

      why not just rebuild Lucasarts and put them back on Star Wars games, they made some great games, things like the X-Wing Series, Dark Forces and its sequals in the Jedi Knight, series, Knights of the Old Republic, Empire at War in fact pretty much every Star Wars game I have ever loved (and the vast majority of Star Wars games before Disney closed Lucasarts) was made by or comissioned by Lucasarts not EA

    I remember the days in gaming, high school and college, when one of my friends, myself included, would get enough money together to purchase a game that was single or had a two player mode and six of us would get together at that friends house with some snacks, beverages and ordering pizza; staying up until 3 A.M. passing the controller around the room when someone would die during the adventure. We would laugh and insult each other on our video game skills and prowess making the single player video game adventure and story that much more memorable for all of us. Now that we are all in our late 30's early 40's, and live in different parts of the country, and have that one week out of the year we get together at one of our houses, we still prefer the single player game and to some limited extent the multiplayer non online game. We still enjoy the tradition we started in the ps2 era and this experience. The interaction and comments in the company with our spouses and children, who do join in playing the game and throwing out insults, enjoy the experience of the well thought out single player game title more than the on line experience and multiplayer modes of particular games!

    I am a very casual gamer. I choose my games entirely based on the narrative because I am NOT competitive. I want a story to play through as though I'm reading a book or watching a movie. You get me involved in online play, and I get trounced so hard that I'm red in the face and swearing off video games forever within a matter of minutes. Almost all of the fun I've ever had with video games has come from single player experiences. That's why I haven't bought a video game in years. There's no market for people like me anymore.

      It’s sad that this corporate giant is so cynically manipulating masses of young gamers who haven’t experienced the beauty and awesome power of total immersion in a brilliant single player game. It’s subliminal messaging 101 to dictate to the masses what they want (which increases their revenues over time). I cannot remember how many hours I’ve put into a game like Final Fantasy VII. I still go back to it after 20 years for the nostalgia. I bet tonnes of you out there have your own single player experiences just like this (Oblivion and Skyrim come to mind)...
      I’ve boycotted any EA from my household. I have two young children who are avid gamers with five different platforms for them to choose from. Big mistake EA. They’ll never play your games on my watch.

    • @langbuddha2798
      @langbuddha2798 6 лет назад

      Absurd if you’ve boycotted EA I hope you have a list of all 39 game companies that they own, that you also boycotted, don’t make false claims I’m sure you own a shot ton of EA games but you are to ignorant to know it. EA is not trying to get anyone to keep from playing a game they guy that made this video is so that. If you read the actual interview you will see proof that this guy did nothing but lie and incorrectly quote for 10 minuets. But you are to narrow minded and to busy playing EA games to do that.

  • @VoltanIgor

    I nearly never play multiplayer games, with the rare exception of some co-op gaming. I do not like them. If I want to interact with people, I meet up with friends. If I want to play a game, I want an immersive experience, with good atmosphere, good characters and stories. I do not like interacting with real people in games for the most part because they always break the illusion. And no, I am not antisocial at all. EA is actually not wrong, they know what the truth is perfectly well. They are lying. Big difference there. People do not want single player games?
    2017 Game of the year : Zelda BoW
    2018 Game of the year: God of War

      Not to mention single player games are usually well made, they *must* be in order to even become trending. The same cannot be said about fornite, apex, or whatever the normies are into nowadays. Most online mainstream games look very tacky, generic, and are aimed at the lowest common denominator, yet look how popular they are. It clearly shows a difference of standards between the two communities. A single player game does not reach mainstream success by being low effort. This is why I have this theory that gaming communities are divided into two classes. The cultured and more intelligent folk who enjoy story driven games. And then there’s the sheep consumers who are easily entertained by just about anything and rather play whatever is the most popular at the moment. these are multiplayer only gamers.

    EA don't like Single player games because they can't monetize it as much by slapping a shitload of microtransactions and day one DLC's. I hope they go south soon and those talented people working for EA gets hired on great devs with a less greedy publisher.

    • @tommy4761
      @tommy4761 6 лет назад +3

      Chase the funny thing is that these companies can put dlc in single player games. Fallout has three huge ones that I loved. Darksouls dlc is so good.
      Multiplayer dlc is good all, but not necessary.
      I mostly play bf1 base game even tho I've all the dlc.
      R6S dlc is free, they've the micro transactions, but the actual content itself is free.
      EA do indeed have it wrong

    • @chase1255
      @chase1255 6 лет назад +1

      Thomas ganley Yes i agree, although single player DLC's are optional. its if the game is boring/terrible for you then you can simply just not purchase any or you simply enjoyed it so much you wanted more of it but multiplayer DLC's like what battlefield is doing is adding DLC exclusive maps/guns/items that you can only acquire if you purchase the DLC of the said game which not only forces you to pay extra of an already full priced game, it also hurts the community as it creates a division to the playerbase since not everyone can afford the luxury of purchasing premium passes for DLC's and exclusive stuff. Cosmetic microtransactions for me is cash grab but at the same time they're the most harmless type of cash grab as it doesn't actually affect gameplay or anything and its only if you really want to buy it to look cool but you really dont have to. Take Overwatch for example. every single updates are free, from additional heroes to new maps and everything. if you want new skins then you can purchase loot boxes that only makes your heroes look cool and nothing else. TLDR; Fuck EA. I'm honestly hyped for Battlefield V ONLY because i like DICE and wanted to support them even though they are unfortunately under the worst game publisher ever to exist (i dont want them to end up the same as Visceral Games). Screw Anthem tho, learned my lesson on Andromeda so never again BioWare and EA.

      I'm still holding out hope for Anthem tbh. I enjoyed Andromeda, but only not the whole way through. The last hour or three felt boring to me. They tried to be DA Inquisition, whole also being MassEffect, but failed in doing so.
      Anthem is a fresh world and game, and due to the low hype levels (a knock on effect of Andromeda) it might just meet and beat expectations.
      But I digress, I agree with you all, multiplayer dlc divides the player base. That's why I like Siege, I don't have to spend cent outside the €30 i spent for the base game, yet I get everything. It's good

I didn't buy a game system to be forced into combat full of foul mouth punk ass 10 yr olds. The constant online charges are driving out "one time buy", single player games. From a marketing p.o.v. it's a money maker. Plain and simple. Not everyone can afford good internet, good pc systems and consoles. They are abandoning a huge swath of players by going online/multi player. I barely play anything like I used to.

I actually did think there'd be at least one, but I guess not. I play alone or I play with someone I know. Preferably in real on a console, sitting together on a couch or online/LAN while being in the same room, but since that's usually impossible at this day and age, online with mic communication is fine too.
      But never with strangers and never with lots of them.

Instead of just listening to some guy on RUclips spit lies in your face you should research just a bit.

    My Masters degree is a focus on video games as literature. I can tell you without a doubt that a multiplayer game with a minimal to nonexistent campaign isnt literature, it's a cash cow. With a game like the new God of War, I can look at how time has affected Kratos, how his entire worldview has shifted, how the relationship with his son develops when his wife is not there to bridge the gap between them. I can't get that from Battlefront 2. The story in that game feels tacked on, rushed, and like somebody had to come up with a story because Disney told them to. Single player stories are alive and well, and in the educational circles, they are some of the best avenues for teaching literature through gaming.

    Why not great single player games with the option of co-op?
    EDIT:
    Heh, your all right, what I should have really said was great single player with split screen co-op. (I haven't play A Way Out.)
    It's just something that i've been noticing. For whatever reason split screen has been getting gutted by lots of games that you'd think would have it, they should have it, but they don't. Games like Overwatch and Destiny for example pride themselves on co-op and team work, but you can't play with your friends on the couch. I also never played Halo 5, but I heard that it didn't have split screen which sucked.
    I've just realised we're getting off topic here. We're supposed to be talking about single player games. EA is totally wrong on this one. Of course people are interested in single player games, the problem is that most single player campaigns today suck, or their mis-marketed. Despite this there is still a market for them, games like Persona 5 and the new God Of War are proving this. EA is severely out of touch with the consumer really wants.

    I prefer to play single player, I like to play at my own pace in my own time and have no interest in multi player and playing with others. If a game is multi player only with no single player experience then it has no interest nor value to me. I still play Pac Man and Streets Of Rage 2 from time to time when I'm needing a breather from the games we get today.
    Just recently finished Assassin's Creed 4's main story, with all collectibles found, this morning. Sadly couldn't play the Freedom DLC due to a game breaking glitch close to the start that prevented progress. Looking to get started, well resume with, on Assassin's Creed Syndicate shortly, I still feel no interest nor desire to game with others so any multi player games are being ignored.
    Not sure what game I'll buy next when I'm ready to but I do know that it will be a single player title, really can't be arsed to game with others.

    • @dimeuno
      @dimeuno 6 лет назад +4

      Based on what I've witnessed as someone who's played every main entry in GTA to completion since GTA 2 (played 1 but didn't finish), before GTA 5 the focus was only on the single player side with every GTA. GTA 4 the online was just a bonus to me, and it wasn't particularly exciting. GTA 4 had some great single player expansions, but GTA 5 has had none because they monetized the online mode and it became more profitable to ignore adding anything to the single player.
      That said, I still enjoy GTA 5 Online, but it feels kind of cold and lifeless. Besides grinding for your next toy, which gets old pretty fast due to the kinds of activities involved, the limited variety of profitable activities for your time invested, and the repetition, it feels like there's so much wasted potential there that could have made it a much greater experience. There's a lot of quality of life issues and bugs that seem like they could be easily dealt with if they cared, but it's possible the code is just too difficult to mess with in order to fix those issues.
      Hopefully they heavily improve upon it with GTA 6's online mode. If they build the game from the start with the idea of making the game as easy to modify as possible when it comes to the online, so that they can alter it and fix any flaws in the design, and bugs, they''ll probably be able to make it a MUCH better experience overall. I suspect they'll do better next time around because they didn't know the online for GTA 5 would become so profitable, it was probably an afterthought for them. But now that they know it can be very profitable, they'll probably put a lot more into it from the ground up during its creation, instead of what was likely a rush job without a lot of planning and careful consideration of features in a lot of ways.

They are arguably one of the best game studios with all of their current games, the Uncharted series and The Last of Us being narrative driven singleplayer games, all of which are incredibly fun and sold very well. Even their older games were mainly singleplayer, and I think the fact that ND has chosen to evolve to create these singleplayer experiences and not "games as a service", paired with ND's success speaks for itself.

    I hate online gaming, it's unimmersive at best. It's perfectly possible to make "unending" open world games without the online element. In fact, these are my favorite.
    Just make the world as organic as you can with systems where making a living require variations of creative loops, nice AI to NPCs and a well implemented and executed immersive setting. That's already being done on some scale on most RPGs, such as Skyrim where you can spend thousands of hours without caring about the main story (mostly thanks to mods tho) and Cyberpunk 2077 (king supreme of all hypes, supposed to innovate on all said aspects). An example of EA's singleplayer game that's just like that, although not an RPG, is The Sims 3.
    But that's BS talk by EA, they don't really mean what they say, they couldn't be that dumb. The real issue here is the profit they're not making. Having a game be successful is not enough anymore. Now they want to milk every single penny the players could possibly give out of sheer addiction. That's the strategy MMOs are using for decades now. At the end of the day, games like that are just like a carrot on a stick to keep the palyers distracted while they empty their bank account. I'm never going back to online gaming.

    EA is completely and utterly WRONG because single player games have been the bread and butter of video games for DECADES but EA can't cheaply monetize single player games to death for a decade. That's why EA doesn't want to make single player games and that's why I am done with EA and some of my favorite old school games are Perfect Dark, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, and EarthBound just to name a few.

    I mainly a PC Gamer.and I have a strong dislike for multi-player (unless you're sitting on the couch with your buddy playing Mario Kart or something) I grew up with most of the time video games being a story something immersive with stuff coming out like RuneScape making a big splash I was fine with it at the beginning but I feel like the whole online thing has been over done.I didn't mind DLC when it added more story like jakob's Cove in Borderlands. long story short I like the story and good gameplay and I feel like a lot of modern video games have gone into the pay-to-play stuff too much even if you paid for the game up front. loot boxes and the pay to finish the story Model . I'd rather pay more upfront and not have to deal with that. and as for games that I replay all the time. the Borderlands Series so far 5 to 6 times Half-Life the series Doom Wolfenstein and many more. they have also lost a good story aspect in a lot of games making the single player a prelude to multiplayer. I've been losing interest in a lot of titles that I had followed since I was very young because of this.

    Personally, I like single player games more than multiplayer ones. I come for the ztory, gameplay and the total experience. Multiplayer games may reel in more new players more because of the interaction, but I think single player games is still the heart of gaming. The greatness of gaming lies in single player games or ones that have more emphasis on single player campaigns. It is true, it is an art. It is a movie inside a game, there lies meaning and all. *It will not die*.
    As for my favorite single player focused games: Batman Arkham Series, Hitman Series (still waiting for HITMAN season 2), Uncharted Series, Red Dead Redemption, The Last of Us, Shadow of Mordor Series, Assassin's Creed until AC IV: Black Flag and Resident Evil 4 (damn was it a good game. needs to be remastered asap!).

    - Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2 | Jedi Outcast
    - Mass Effect 1, 2, 3
    - Dark Souls 1, 3 and Bloodborne (technically you -can- play Multiplayer in these games but I never do, I prefer to play them as single player games)
    - Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm
    - The Last of Us
    - Uncharted 1, 2, 3, 4
    - Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider
    - Alan Wake
    - Quantum Break
    - Amnesia: The Dark Descent
    - Assassin's Creed 2
    - Batman: Arkham Asylum, City, Knight
    - Bayonetta
    - Bioshock Infinite
    - Doom
    - Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3, Mania
    - F.E.A.R. 2
    - Gears of War 1, 2, 3
    I could go on really, there's such a long list of games I love and would fight EA about to prove that Single Player games are amazing in their own right and have tons of replay value if it's a GOOD game. But that's the problem, isn't it?
    Most game developers don't make games for the sake of wanting to make games anymore. Luckily there are still companies that love their craft and try to create amazing experiences with every release, like Naughty Dog and the God of War developers. People who spend years on creating 1 game knowing it will be an amazing experience. And sure, they too do it for monetary gain but their first priority is putting together a good game. From which automatically money is gained. You don't see Uncharted 28 for instance. Sure, over the years they do come with sequels but they are generally always quality, and usually the sequel is better than the previous game. Instead of companies like EA who churn out games year after year with little regard to quality or how it plays, just looking to make a quick buck.
    It's unfortunate. And you see it having its effect already, with situations like Cliff Blaszinksi and his company Boss Keys. He forgot that making games is about building an experience and in his greed (or desperation) grasped at the biggest trend and tried to follow along way too late (Radical Heights fiasco... ooeh boy).

    EA simply wants to minimize effort and maximise profit. That is the absolute bare-bones way to describe it. A good single player game requires a lot of writing, hiring actors, polishing and bugfixing. It's expensive and time consuming, compared to simply creating a multiplayer game with virtually no voice-overs (acting), no need for storywriters and polishing and bugfixing can easily be done post-launch.
    What makes me happy though is that gamers are starting to speak their mind all over the internet, and they can't be ignored forever. EA doesn't need to change. It needs to go.

    "It has become clear that to deliver an experience that *players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come,* "
    THIS is the problem, EA. You're begging the question. A single-player story-driven experience is not necessarily an experience that a player will be "coming back to for a long time". Often times we want an intense, deep, personal experience for 40 hours or so, and then we want to move on to a new game.
    The problem is, you framed the question with long-lifespan live service games as the goal, and when the players surveyed said, "Oh, yeah, this Star Wars game won't be THAT kind of game", you said, "See? See? No one wants this kind of game. They said this wasn't going to work when we asked."

    You have to know how to speak EA. "Players aren't as interested in single player games as they used to be" actually means "single player games aren't as profitable as online games with micro transactions." As for games I go back to, I've probably spent more time playing Kingdom Hearts 2 than any online game I've ever played. I've beat that game more than 10 times. A playthrough takes about 30 hours. That doesn't count all the grinding to hit the various lvl caps, synthesis, and the time it takes to beat all of the optional bosses. I also play Conker's Bad Fur Day once a year, replay the various Zelda games every so often, revisit Mario 64, replay Pokemon games, replay the God of War series, replay the Uncharted series, etc. I could go on and on. I can't tell you the last EA game I replayed, though.

      GroveStreetGang sad thing is they are already dying out, 90% of the best single player games are just from series that are to big to fail it’s sad that no one sees how hard it is to make a fresh single player that will do good, this guy even says it himself “making singleplayer games is extremely expensive” so why do y’all expect companies to put out a shit ton of them if people hardly play fresh ideas and it will end up cost more then they make.

      Correction my good man. As long as interest in single player games exists, so will the games that offer said experience.

    I'm a singler player guy myself. In my opinion, the suits don't understand that the network effect can make single player games as profitable as multiplayer because a single-player experience can help draw in people like me, who will then be more interested and invested in the world and more likely to try the multiplayer experience. Since the success of the multiplayer experience depends so heavily on the network effect, it would be much safer to try to include a good single-player experience, even in otherwise multiplayer-focused games.
