The level of detail you we get to hear in these tracks is insane. There are many nuances in the vocals and vocal production you NEVER hear in the full mix and some of the mix choices and little sounds here and there are a real treat to wade into as well. Mike is a production master and and an amazing creative musician and leader. He brought the best out of Chester over and over again and it's fun to hear all the layers by themselves here!
AND... Chester's tone is just staggering!!
Linkin Park's copyright owners will allow this video to remain on youtube but there must be consistent use of frequent stops. No one part of the the song in part or in whole can be played without frequent interruptions. This is partially why I stop and comment and sing during and after key sections that I play. If I just play the files, the video will be taken down. Presenting the files in this format with this kind of flow cements the FAIR USE intent which is why it can remain up on RUclips. Along these lines, I can not reveal where or link to the source files or I'll get a takedown notice as well. Giving away content that is not mine to give also falls outside of FAIR USE intent. Thanks for understanding and for enjoying the video! I'm excited for you to hear all the wonderful nuances!
Where do you get these tracks from
@@michaelstoutenger dude, "Along these lines I cannot reveal where or link to the source files"
@@viictor1309 dude along these lines I didn't read clearly hahah
Man you need to do some alter bridge.. the song blackbird.. myles Kennedy is a vocalist master and mark tremonti's guitar is something special... please do alter bridge-blackbird!!
Amazing analisis like always man!!! Would be cool to react the acoustic live version of "Somebody That I Used To Know" (Or "Hearts a mess") of Gotye with The Basics & Monty Cotton. I think Gotye's voice has a lot of interesting nuances
Idk why but Chester's voice feels like home to me. Especially in the early days
I fully feel you on that front
That is a very beautiful thing to say , thank you 🙏🏻 ❤️
13:07 wow I didnt realise how intense and emotional that last scream was until now, the little crack and the genuine anger feeling that it gives is so amazing. You really feel exactly what Chester feels and/or what he wants you to feel in that line.
I think Hybrid Theory is a great lesson in music production. Linkin Park did a lot of interesting stuff in the studio that you don't always realize is there in the full mix. In The End has some weirdness going where there's a bit crusher and a ring modulator on some of the vocals.
That album was the first rock album I heard with bitcrushed/downsampled sounds on it.
@@matturner6890 I think it's impressive how this album is both radio friendly/polished and easily accessible in terms of songwriting, while also having this kind of experimentation in the sound design of the electronics. They have a great blend of the two.
The pre master mix is interesting to say the least of the album.
OMFG !!!!!!!! MORE LINKIN PARK PLEASE !!!!!!!!!
Anything with Chester's voice T_T I am in for the ride !!!
Lets goo CL Fam
Also Mike's singing voice was AMAZING and severely underrated, I always loved it
I never would have guessed that Chester's vocals were band-filtered like this, crazy how it sounds like normal with the full instrumentation. Also, that lesson from the bass was far more profound than I was prepared for. Thanks Chris!!!
A full rock mix will eat into pretty much every part of the vocal, so it's more standard than you might think.
Honestly the best vocal reactions on RUclips. Hearing you mimic and experiment with these sounds makes it so much easier to understand what the original artist is doing. Keep it up!
Chester imho had the most unique voice ever.. being able to pull of kind of two different voices simultaneously all while maintaining breath control and flow and feel and also being able to do this live is just unbelievably good.. miss this guy and his music so much, even tho not knowing him in person... loved your video! please do more! :D
These guys are what got me into music, all their music was done with so much passion and consistency. And Chester was just on another level man..
Pleeease do something like that for Breaking The Habit as well. To me, this is one of the best songs ever made
this make's me even more convinced Chester is one of the best singers to have ever graced our eardrums!
dude please please do more of these, Im like a crackhead for these videos now. The educational value is unparallel
Don Gilmore seriously doesn't get enough praise for his production style. Seriously heavily emphasized all of LPs talents and skills in both performance and writing
Don't forget about Jeff Blue! He discovered and pushed the band.
Very cool! I like how the screams show the melody in the isolated tracks.
One step closer has one of my favorite guitar lines in all LP songs. And when you solo them you can tell just how different sounding shit was
Amazing video. I could watch nothing but linkin park breakdowns forever haha
this type of video is the BEST for learning music producers. this is gold, ive learnt so much from this one video. cus you get to see each component for what it is. even just the drums, im hearing things i didnt know were happening!
Man I love your reactions and teaching. Thank you for everything you do, you are amazing and inspiring us a lot
Chris. You are and have been my to go to for more knowledge about mixing and overall tonality provided by my favorite bands. thank you for all your hard work. seriously.
I've been on a Linkin Park kick the past few days so this is perfect to see in my sub feed :)
I've literally listened to this song thousands of times in my life and there are even little details that you just dont get to appreciate in the full mix. Thanks for these types of vids, Chris. Linkin Park is still fascinating after all these years.
Thank you for this ❤ Really enjoy this cause it helps compliment the person that is singing rather than the artist we're trying to mimick. Definitely a good way to find what works for you while also discovering your own sound~
Hey! Very cool stuff, the way you breakdown the nuances in his voice. I'd also like you to analyze some of Chester's live performances, especially in his prime, and how he had to change his approach in his later years to better accommodate his aging voice. I'd love to hear your opinion on them!
Brings back memories
I wish I could take one to one vocal lessons with you instead of online. You are just something else, I love your videos and everything.
I’ve always loved the way Joe and Mike put in those little electronic sounds and touches in the mix. Really under appreciated.
Oh my God. Chester, my favorite singer of all time. Thank you so much for this video. Chester's voice alone is the best thing on earth.
Could be listening to these "SHUT UUUUP ! SHUT UP WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU !!!" forever ❤😅
This gotta be one of my favorite videos of all time. You analysed all the multitracks in One Step Closer. I sang this at my Summer Camp and everyone was blown away. I'm trying not to sound like Chester but I figured my own way to scream.
Really enjoyed this in depth breakdown of one of my favourite songs
Saw this video uploaded and got excited immediately!!!
Just tuning into the video a couple weeks late, and I gotta say I am beyond impressed by your Multitrack Analysis series. I'm even more amazed by some of the little nods to the digital era you pointed out. Linkin Park always wanted to embrace that Y2K attitude at all costs, and a lot of the ideas they were following with it artistically were stellar. Thank you for another great breakdown of my favorite band, and I also thank you for your encouraging wisdom for fellow producers and musicians!
P.S. Fun Fact: That camera shutter is more noticeable in the mix of a pre-release internal demo then-named Plaster.
the background clicky thing, it might have been a camera shutter, if it isnt then it gave me the idea to record my analog cameras shutters to use as "percussion sounds". awesome stuffs as always Chris!
I really liked your video, nothing better to practice my English than listening to a man talking about Lp while Lp sounds.
I love the excitement that comes from you when it comes to these multitracks. I'm the same and I sometimes will be on Discord showing my friends different things I've noticed with multitracks or in songs I've manipulated, but they rarely share the same enthusiasm 😂😂😂
Mike Shinoda talked about how critics thought Linkin Park was an industry plant, because they couldn't believe a newcomer act could have written such polished songs themselves. I thought that was quite dumb and arrogant of the critics, but with such a good edit on their debut record, I can now totally see how they got to that conclusion.
But knowing the guys and their history it's clear that they are a bunch of giant nerds with immense technical knowledge in addition to their impeccable musical skills. It simply was that perfect combo. When you have such a great rhythm section, one of the best rock singers in his generation, a great rapper and respectable singer and at least two guys who really know their mixing and production game, is it really any wonder they create allround high quality stuff from the get-go?
Hahn's scratches on this song are out of this world.
I was f*cking waiting for this!!! I am amazed with chester since i discovered b
He has the same vocal Range as i do, and i take him as an example of how to approach my own vocals
Ur a lyric tenor
@@Imaroster yes i am... sorry for the late answer
So happy i found this
Getting Away With Murder would be an amazing analysis
R.I.P chester. For those who don't know, mike doesn't sing in this song. The chorus backing vocals are done by Chester with one being at a high screaming tone, the other one being a deeper tone, while the last one being a much heavier voice.
You could find these multitracks uploaded in youtube in M.Ps channel: ruclips.net/channel/UCrda6YzKV1KgnrpyogSfdmQ
Interesting
the interestingly fact when Scott Koziol just played the bass in the recording. I checked some information from Wikipedia.
Pleeeease do more of these multitracks analysis! It makes me discover very interesting things
I love these LP analyses. Please do more. The Catalyst is a great underrated one to look at
i was quite amazed how much stuff is in these tracks that you instinctively would wanna get rid of. those are not very clean recordings but its completely fine in the final mix.
love the record. nice to have a little view behind the curtain.
Thanks for sharing Chris.
The studio mix with studio speakers may not showcase the bass, however the car test is a whole different ball game.
Chris, these videos are gold! Your existence here on YT means a lot! The best voice related channel, and I've watched a lot of them over the years.
Never noticed the interesting things happening in the background of this song, thanks for the analysis Chris, great as always!
Yes, yes, yes, yes! my first favorite metal Song of my life, this Band got me into metal!
Love the "break" detail you noticed during the chorus
That bass tone's clankiness I think was more due to some parallel distortion of the higher end, of course new strings clanking are going to allow for that frequency content to shine. Comforting to hear punch ins... makes me feel better about having to do it myself haha
Chester's distorted/grit singing is on another level, as always. He also had one of the best screams ever. RIP
Not sure if Phoenix for the recording used one of his Stingrays or one of his Fender Strats since Ive seen him with both but a Fender strat bass tuned down to C-sharp would definitely be a bit more "clanky" sounding since they weren't really designed to be tuned that low. I love that sound though. I think it really adds to the tone and their style at the time
I believe Phoenix left LP before One Step Closer was recorded to tour with Tasty Snax. The bassist who recorded the bass on this track was Scott Koziol. It was the only song that he layed a track for I’m pretty sure
@@sean_mccadden the fender bass that looks like a strat is a precision bass
There's a more separated version of this multitrack out there with the DI and amp bass tracks separated, the clankiness is even on the DI track.
This was the only track Scott Koziol played on on the record, so I think it's more a result of that. Brad Delson did most of the other bass tracks and he has a very light pick attack, and Ian Hornbeck played on a couple songs, I think he exclusively plays fingerstyle.
I believe Scott's main 4-string around this time was a Sadowsky modeled after a Fender Jazz. Assuming Brad used a Stingray (no clue what Ian would've used), that probably had some impact as well.
That kick drum is punchy and boomy. I love it!
The shut ups are hilariously awesome 😂
do "Lying From You", it's best vocal range chester ever recorded with linkin park
MORE LP TRACKS, LETS GO!!
Ok hear me out....I would love to see a breakdown of Nookie by Limp Bizkit. That song, while absolutely ridiculous, is sonically impressive as all getout. Each member has such a unique style and the mix is absolutely mint.
Hell yeah, I'd love to hear that weird 4-string guitar-but-also-a-bass thing by itself
Omg I love Linkin park this is so good chris.. just wanna say I appreciate the work and dedication and still hoping for that lajon Witherspoon breakdown much love Chris
I was waiting for this song! Thank you Chris. Reviewing isolated vocals really help me with understanding my vocal
Chester가 얼마나 대단한지 다시 느껴지는 비디오입니다😳😳😳😳😳😳
Linkin Park의 작곡 능력도 정말 대단합니다!!!💜💜
Linkin Park도 명예의 전당에 올라가야합니다.
Hall of Fame Linkin Park💜💜💜💜💜

Linkin Park의 다른 노래들도 업로드해주세요!!

Chester was a one of a kind. It still makes me emotional thinking about his death.
Chester the goat 💪
Hybrid and meteora are perfect albums start to finish
I never payed attention to all the details and the layers when listening to the original. Once again, very cool to have your analysis, great video !
Also, I'd love to see you analyse Philip Strand 's (Normandie) vocals someday, they made some amazing live studio performances.
Have a great day Chris !
Please, can you do a video like that about "What I've Done" and comparing Chester's voice when he was trying to descalate a little to spare his throat ?
I think the clicky sound is supposed to be a camera shutter. Right before you hear that familiar camera sound with the backing vocals at 4:03.
Would love to see you analyse Sleep Token's vocals some point in the near future. Vessel is one of my favourite singers atm and he does alot of unique things with his voice I think you would appreciate
6:46 someone did separate one of Chester's vocals so it has 4 layers in it.

First thought, I thought Mike Shinoda Screaming "One Step Closer to the edge" when he screamed in the music video. And now I realized it's Mike and Chester blend together with their own back vocals in the studio mix.
1:59 another interesting fact, The bass was written and played by Scott Koziol in this Song. You can see him in the second chorus where he plays the bass in the music video. This was written when Phoenix Farrell left the band and he's in another band called "Tasty Snax" since 1999.
Scott Koziol's Bass Guitar he was using was Sadowsky Bass 4 string.
chester is the goat but chris is a legit vocal master, sometimes the imitations are uncannily close. few people understand the voice like this dude
Please do ‘Where do we go from here’ by Filter. Or anything Richard Patrick for that matter, dudes a gun!
Love all the videos! Just saw The Weeknd perform live in Detroit!!! His voice is incredible and definitely inspires me to keep singing and along with your videos!
Awesome!
I like how Chester has much more chest up there in comparison with Chris :) Especially noticeable in the "shut up" part. The voice type thing going on there I assume.
Good job anyway! Very detailed and useful!
This guys convulsions demonstrating are hilarious I love it 😂😂 I know it’s the passion
Great video!
Hybrid theory will always be my favorite metal album. The extended version is great. Best performance of this song is live in rock am ring 2004
Chester ❤️❤️
Love ya chris, don’t change a thing.
Beginning of the verse chester kinda has a def tones vibe with the “cleeeaaaaarrr”
buen video pelao, saludos!
Wooow those screams give me goosebumps
Please also analyse "Blackout" by Linkin Park, you will LOVE the vocal takes!
Damn fave lp song. Close fight with Given Up. Nice
Also goodnesses lel
Stems. Too much baked in to be true multitracks IMHO. Very nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Right!... Stems... but that word doesn't get as many clicks because people don't seem to know what it is :)
RIP Chester Bennington! 🥰🤩🥰
You should review Iridescent, the multitrack is really great.
Love ir chris, please do more Lp
That “and I’m about to break” reminded me of SpongeBob 😭
Chester took that whispers singing style from Chino moreno, so cool
Was thinking you should try a Queens of the Stone Age multitrack! Or another nirvana, something off In Utero! Gotta hear some of those Albini engineered tracks!
I read the drum were recorded on a 4 track tape recorder and then Mike added samples later.
Hybrid Theroy is a Masterpiece, Hands down best Linkin Park Album
Chester is one of my favorite singers
Have you heard of the band Ice Nine Kills and if you have do you know how to do the screams like in there song American Nightmare? I would like to know how to do the kind of fry scream in that and the growls.
Hey Chris, I have a question. Seth Riggs teaches early bridging, claiming that if you stretch your chest voice higher you will only damage your voice and develop nodules from essentially shouting too much in chest. On the other hand, Ken Tamplin says that you should bridge as late as you can and stretch and thin out your chest voice in order to keep that part of the voice strong. Ken claims you will atrophy your voice if you don’t keep training your upper chest voice and instead rely on early bridging. He says, “Whatever you don’t use, you lose” and that you will lose your ability to stretch chest, which will eventually effect your ability to mix. Ken claims this is the reason why Artists like Axel Rose and Geddy lee lost their voice later on. Who is right? Why are these techniques complete polar opposites? Who do I listen to?
Have you ever heard of Moises APP, with it we can have this experience of splitting any song into its multitracks. I use to split lots of LP songs (of course one of my fav bands)
How you have access in this kind of material? Realy this is so good
8:41 perfect use of dissonance to convey angst
What was that emo-ey punky music at the end 😂 that was sick bro
I read that Mike Shinoda screams in this song. I was hoping to hear that here. Does anyone know what vocals Mike sings in One Step Closer?
I feel like "the note" in the shut up scream is more of a ringing effect from the compressor or saturator, or maybe eq i don't know.. it's there in his voice I suppose but the effects bring it up front
There is some details on this track really impressed
Question, how did you get this project file, I mean if you can tell how and stuff, i tough only the record or the band has access to this
Buddy, make an analysis of the track from dmc5 "bury the light" and how it is formed
