This is one of the few RUclips videos I keep coming back to every few months. Over and over and over again. It's the ultimate cruising around song late at night.
The prettiest song ever recorded. No song ever came close to the magical melancholy of Heart of Glass. To hear this gorgeous song slowed down, it reveals the painful lament in Debbie Harry's vocals.
Once I had a love and it was a gas Soon turned out had a heart of glass Seemed like the real thing, only to find Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind Once I had a love and it was divine Soon found out I was losing my mind It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind In between What I find is pleasing and I'm feeling fine Love is so confusing there's no peace of mind If I fear I'm losing you it's just no good You teasing like you do Once I had a love and it was a gas Soon turned out had a heart of glass Seemed like the real thing, only to find Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind Lost inside Adorable illusion and I cannot hide I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside We could've made it cruising, yeah Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light Once I had a love and it was a gas Soon turned out I had a heart of glass [radio version] Soon turned out to be a pain in the ass [album version] Seemed like the real thing only to find Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
Turns out Chris Stein himself likes it slower. A lot slower! RUclips won't let me post the link Stein posted on the Guardian site today but it's worth going back to his comments for it and having a listen for yourself.
This allows you to hear how 'analog' the song was recorded: no modern drum machine-based song would be so loosy goosey with the arpeggios thanks to modern MIDI clocks. Which is a shame...
Me? I immediately went to the settings button and started messing with the speeds. Sounds better faster. This sounds like if Buffalo Bill from "The Silence of The Lambs" was singing it. That producer made a damn good call.

My only complaint with the original is that it didn't last long enough. I have now found my bliss.
This is by far the best song that I have ever heard. I love it to deaf and do"nt know a single word.
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
In between
What I find is pleasing and I'm feeling fine
Love is so confusing there's no peace of mind
If I fear I'm losing you it's just no good
You teasing like you do
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside
We could've made it cruising, yeah
Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out I had a heart of glass [radio version]
Soon turned out to be a pain in the ass [album version]
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind
