DIY The Cutest Cream Puff Sheep - Easy Clay Tutorial

- The original design for this was from a needle felt craft book but I decided to make it out of clay instead! I rated this Medium only if you're using air-dry clay (Modena/Hearty/Cosmos/Grace/FuwaFuwa) because you have to work quickly before it starts to harden. If you're using oven-bake polymer clay (Fimo/Sculpey) then it's a lot easier to correct mistakes.
One last tip for Modena clay, it dries slightly milky/translucent which makes the final colours appear darker and more saturated. I'm not a huge fan of this effect so I always mix a lot of titanium white into the clay to keep the colours soft and opaque. Do not mix acrylic paint into oven-bake clay because you obviously don't want to heat paint chemicals! If you use pre-made coloured polymer clay then you can skip the colour mixing step too.

I decided not to use music or talking because of the ASMR effect (autonomous sensory meridian response). Crinkly and crunchy noises are very relaxing to listen to and it's nice to switch off for a bit.

+Ve Zapata Thank you! Yep, I try to make ASMR videos whenever possible but the problem is that some crafting techniques (eg. sewing, clay and painting) don't produce any noise at all. So those will end up being complete silence for 3-4 minutes which will be boring to watch. That's why some videos have music and others don't 😊. The videos that are most suited for ASMR are felting and cooking.

Funny, filmed after my birthday. And I'm really symbolic with sheep too, so I'm think this was split coinidence.
This made me have such a "duh" moment, I hate having to mix different colors of clay with my hands and yet I have so many acrylic paints that I could use. Thank you for the idea, now I can stop buying colored clays and just use my paints, haha.

Thank you! Yep it was surprisingly easy...the trickiest part is probably drawing the mouth on because it's so tiny. (If you make the whole bun bigger, then it won't be a problem) I actually messed up the first time, so I painted over it with acrylic paint and tried again ;D

Thanks!! It was actually a coincidence as the clay was too sticky and kept picking up dirt from my hands XD. So I formed it inside the plastic wrap and realised it gave it a great texture

I think you should try some audio commentary for the how tos, to make it easy to interpret what the words say. You obviously have a good camera since we can you you real time, and I've watched your blogs and I think you have a nice voice. It could also help people understand certain things better, i imagine.

This is absolutely adorable! however i would like to point out that that colour you pointed out is not skin colour. I don't think i see everyone with that colour as their skin. Do people consider brown "skin colour". That colour is tan. NOnetheless this is adorable and i am planning on making it
Hi, thank you for pointing this out. I totally understand the issue about skin colour and I've always taken care to represent all skin colours in my work (eg here www.maqaroon.com/lookbook.php). The 'skin colour' phrase in the video is only used within the context of this project because the sheep's face is that colour. If it had been a chocolate sheep or cake then I would have referred to darker brown shades as 'skin colour' as well ^_^.
Will a waterproof artist pen be all right to use on a baked polymer clay piece?

Or normal clay? Polymer clay baked delicate depending on thickness and normal clay is well rock solid...how does the paper clay harden like?
Hi! My favourite clay is air-dry polymer clay (also called resin clay) which is used in this video. It's easy to work with and quite heavy when dry. I like working with paper clay too but that hardens to a very light and fluffy texture, which doesn't feel 'heavy' enough for jewellery. My least favourite clay is oven-baked polymer clay (Fimo/Sculpey) because the clay is quite stiff and hard to sculpt. Funnily enough my next tutorial is actually on Fimo, but filming that only made me realise how tricky it is to work with oven-bake polymer clay compared to regular clay!

1) yes
2) no. acrylic paint works better. other paints tend to separate and look streaky
