Ptu can be removed without taking the intake off. I have done it multiple times. I remove the starter bolts on the bottom with a ratcheting wrench. I also don't remove the rear prop shaft, I just pop it off the splines and let it sit there.

@OnlineMechanicTips do know if you had to remove the PTU connector harness to replace the starter? I just had mine replaced a couple days ago and the technician that was working on it broke the connector and the dealership wants me to pay for it of pocket. I'm trying to figure out if the connector was never touched before why would it break. So my biggest problem is that I have the SRVC 4WD light coming up now that they replaced the starter.

I watched a Ukrainian video the guy removed the sub frame/crossmember whatever that is. Went quickly. PTU fell right out

For a fact, take that trans mount bolt off and jack the engine forward as much as you can PTU will come sliding right out, also for starter bolts up top a half moon wrench works wonders

Had my starter replaced recently on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee at 83K miles. Fortunately, the cost, $1600, was covered by the extended warranty minus a $200 deductible.

Car manufacturers are doing this crap on purpose, gonna be funny when they make it so complicated even factory trained techs can physically get at anything. It will eventually get there until they realize that techs aren’t a dime a dozen anymore

Starter is a pain on the awd for sure. Front wheel drive I can do starter all from the bottom of vehicle. Top bolt can be a pain but i can get it out from bottom with a serp belt tool.

The starter on my 02' Liberty 4WD was a nightmare, also? Dropped the front axle on the first one, had the pinion seal leak 2 weeks later, even though I greased it and was careful? The second, could have just unbolted the motor mounts, thanks for your tip, but was working on the ground? Took the exhaust manifold out, which was a nightmare in itself to get the last starter ever out? Thanks for the tips, JT.

Jt that starter replacement is ridiculous! Would make you want to leave Dodge/Jeep… 😅. Just about all starters will fail.😮 That starter should have been engineered somewhere else. Intake gaskets will be needed if dried up. Love your videos! 👍🏾
