LOVED this discussion. And now I want to reread these books again, dammit.
This was just one major gushfest and I was all here for it. Totally agree with everything you guys said. I am so happy that Ken Liu decided to tell this story exactly the way he wanted to tell it, even though it might not have been the most commercially viable choice. That unique flair is exactly what makes these books stand out from the crowd.
There are so many heart-wrenching moments in this book, but I was personally hit hardest by Luan Zya's death. I adored the mentor relationship between him and Zomi and seeing him come back only to die right before her eyes was devastating. Add to that the fact that her biological father dies at the exact same time and the emotional damage was complete, lmao.
That said, Kuni's death scene is absolutely one of the most iconic deaths that I have ever read, so painfully beautiful and appropriately epic.
I can gush about these books for hours upon hours. Can't wait for you to read on, hope you enjoy book 3 and 4 just as much!!
    Happy reading 🤩

Beautiful discussion, thank you, I just wanted to see other's opinion and author's opinion on the book and this one is great video for that.
For me, I didn't really like Mata Zyndu, but I just feel his death was tragic cos I just think that he could have been given a second chance, given how you can see changes in his behaviour over a period of time and also how he treated Kuni's family with respect. I also hated that Kuni betrayed him, but I am satisfied after reading the 2nd book, cos he repents about his actions whereas Jia does not.
For me the heart reaching moments were Kuni's death and Gin's death and also Risana's....all tragic
