Technically the bricks in Mario 1 apparently have cursed toads (or mushroom retainers I guess) inside them, so in reality these are evil toads that have probably gone mad from being stuck inside bricks for 35+ years and are out for revenge.
Notably, _all_ the breakable bricks, coins, powerups, and Bloopers in the first game are denizens of the Mushroom Kingdom cursed by Bowser, and only Peach's white magic can restore them. And Mario had no way of knowing this when first entering the scene - has Peach been holding off casting the restoration spell because she wouldn't be able to deal with seeing the carnage that was laid out in the first war between Mario and Bowser? Possibly.

I don't know if you ever noticed but the coins that will ruin your loife had a different color compared to the normal ones, a bit more red-ish color. Like the little Him easter egg on 1-3 I believe and I wonder if it wouldn't been more fitting with Hotel Mario No instead of the other one. I also wonder how easy it could be to mod Mari0.
Well, I loved this! I sure like Mari0. It was interesting, interesting gimmick with the brick pipes, baby bricks, and coins being against you too, bumping you when touched, and those crystal things were like the Power Pellets in Pacman, and like those stopwatches in Super Mario Brothers 2. Yeah, with it sometimes having 'spooky spooky' versions of the last world. Loved when he went through the toilets for pipes, just like in Paper Mario TTYD, and yes, I loved that anticlimactic ending, I mean heck, Mario didn't even have a fricking mushroom, exclamation mark point! (Would be even funnier if he was Mini-Mario). Yeah, the baby bricks are like the mini goombas in Super Mario Brothers 3. Hopefully he finishes the demo.
What if... Here me out... The brick block is trying to deliver a horseplant but it's so happy when it delivers that Mario gets a heart attack and dies, and the baby bricks are just trying to lower the delivery fees since the delivery brick is running everywhere?
The death noise combined with your reaction made me laugh so many times. I need to make a mappack like that. I can only imagine how long it took to make and how much fun it was to play

Which is fitting, because the fake crash right before that level was it's own fake anti-piracy screen, as can be told from the text to speech lines

The Goomba one was actually a bit creepy…i feel THIS is more on HUMOROUS side. 😅 Edit- alright, so it DOES get creepier! This was actually REALLY IMPRESSIVE!
The way it moves reminds me of the chasing 1-up mushroom challenge you can do in mario 64. For those who don't know, certain secret 1-up mushrooms home in on mario once they spawn and some fans made a challenge to make the mushroom appear then try and collect the 8 red coins and grab the star without the 1-up mushroom touching mario. It's a lot harder than it sounds.
This map pack would be a great way to start learning to speedrun SMB1 lol. (Well, some levels anyway haha) Also, that Kefka (FFVI) laugh at the start of every level. Pure gold.

There is actually a sonic 3 A.I.R. mod called mephiles' hunt that does adds mephilis as a permanent enemy that does something pretty similar to what this does for most of the game exept it's on,y the chasing, but the S3 level design makes that feature without the other featuresmore interest
