  • After a year of leather craft I want to start making my own tooling patterns and not have to rely solely on pattern packs from other artist. I’ve been reading up on the drawing style and practicing on paper but decided to give procreate a shot. So far I like the process of being able to have layers in the sketch to turn on and off my guide and the copy and paste to add in the same feature in other spots.
    Books I read so far
Don Gonzales “Introduction to leather floral design”
Bob Park “creating western floral designs”

You know what they say though, there isn't a single design that hasn't been done before. Originality is kind of a misnomer in this type of work especially when speaking in terms of "western/sheridan style floral carving" i mean look at the simple basketweave stamp, one of the most used patterns but no one has ever denied that it hasnt been done before lol
Great video though, it helps give a different perspective on things!

I like pencil and paper for me is faster if i get an idea i can do a quick sketch and if i want to go back to it and work or add to it i can and second i am not very good at computers so by the time i get the program open i have lost most of my inspiration

I can under stand the hole aspect of getting that creative spark down before but fades out.
