(quick tip) How to lay out large circle
Hi Cass it's me callie
Excellent video! Would love to see more leather content if time permits for ya. Couple questions that myself and I'm sure others watching, may have: 1. Hose water - did you just run it mildly from the end of a hose or did you use a spray head with pressure? 2. What kind of leather oil do you use/recommend to recondition the leather? Doing the leather community a solid with this one!
Thanks for the kind words. As for the washing of the shaving cream off I just use my thumb over the end of a garden hose to make it spray with a little more pressure then an open hose. But is you had a mop sink in your house or shop that you did mind if it get stained a little bit just the water coming out the faucet would be good enough. For the oil I use to use extra virgin olive oil but I have made the move to Neatsfoot oil because it darkens the leather a little giving it a warmer glow. Either one works well and I still use the olive oil on things I want to be a lighter color when oiled. And for after care I use and sale my own blend of olive oil and beeswax because it has less a darkening effect and is all natural.
Are worth selling ?? Awesome job ! Great video !,
Not so much they take about 3hrs to core out and then the cleaning up a mess.
"promosm"
Bruh this is foolish just make a normal garden
Soil at my house, his primary red clay and barely grows any grass but the plan is in the next few years the hall in a truck load or two decent topsoil and tiller it in and make a nice little garden plot
Try a deeper watering instead of just the surface which will dry back out within a couple hours. Mulch will also keep the moisture in.
Thanks
I like pencil and paper for me is faster if i get an idea i can do a quick sketch and if i want to go back to it and work or add to it i can and second i am not very good at computers so by the time i get the program open i have lost most of my inspiration
I can under stand the hole aspect of getting that creative spark down before but fades out.
You know what they say though, there isn't a single design that hasn't been done before. Originality is kind of a misnomer in this type of work especially when speaking in terms of "western/sheridan style floral carving" i mean look at the simple basketweave stamp, one of the most used patterns but no one has ever denied that it hasnt been done before lol Great video though, it helps give a different perspective on things!
I lasted 2 seconds of that music.
Sorry about that lol
This is really cool
Nicely done! Graceful design and well executed. I've been learning from Raffan's books and vids and was interested to check it out when your vid popped up in my feed.
Raffen is a big inspiration and educational influence of mine as well as jimmy clues
Your drawings look great, but that background music is hard on the ears.
Noted
All these wood turning videos I come across on RUclips are like ASMR for me...not to mention my dad took up the hobby of wood turning when doing various woodworking projects that he's given away or sold.
Nice job. I saw a company advertise doing this on the Brunswick Facebook page and I was wondering how they did it.
Saw one of these done by a different guy and he took the branding off the bowl and I was peeved, because now it didn’t look like a bowling ball anymore. Plus his dint have any holes because it was new out of the box. So being dissatisfied with his lack of vision for the opportunity to do it the way I would I sought more bowling ball turning vids and found yours. Then you did such a perfect job my dissatisfactions were transformed into deep satisfied tingly brain feelings. Thanks brother. Liked and subbed.
Thanks and sorry my channel has went kinda silent but life has been limiting my time to turn and not to mention film when I do.
Lovely :) Is this part of a project? or stand alone?
I paint them and glue them to a black background as a door hanger
Solid paper weight.
Nice one John. Love the burnished edge.
Thanks for watching hope it inspires
@@johnbaker3082 definitely. Hoping to get a lathe in the next few years. Definitely will remember the burnishing trick.
Gotta move house first though... Heading to Texas in the next few months

That was on fire right
Sickness....
Thanks bud
That pen came out sick. What was the name of the polishing compound you used at the end?
Turtle wax clear polish like you would use to polish out a scratch in your car
@@johnbaker3082 very cool. Thank you bro.
It's what I had on hand and it works I was using headlight restorer but it lift a satin finish
Sorry I missed it live. Cool project look forward seeing it finished 👍
Thanks bud just wanted to do a little something be going off to work
@@johnbaker3082 bit different going live eh
Yes it is
I enjoyed your video. Your pen turned out great. I noticed that you keep putting a protector between the pen part and your pen press. I put a piece of furniture felt on that part of my press so I wouldn't have to worry about that ever again. You can see the felt at the 12:00 minute mark of this video I made: ruclips.net/video/Zbq0ccFXo04/видео.html You can see the basic felt used at this link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HA3BP0S?pf_rd_p=faa1d3e1-fadf-4279-ac2d-3096206e4690&pf_rd_r=FS0DQ6T67N2WDKHSG3EH Have a great day.
Thanks for the the tip
Looks good mate 👍👍

Thanks their quite fun to turn
impressive!
Thanks
Enjoyed your video. Thanks for putting it out there!
Your welcome I'm going to turn it into a small series so stay tuned for future videos
Nice work my man, enjoyed the way you handled that spindle gouge. Glad you took the time to record and share!
😀
Nice pro
Haha wish I was a pro. Thanks for the compliment.
You should consider selling some of your projects.☺️
I have a few on Etsy the link is in the description of the video. I try to update it every few weeks with new stuff
Too cute.
That is a beautiful piece.
That's great fun creating spinning tops. Well done!
Thanks
Great stuff John I’ve been meaning to try this for a while now 👍🏻
Give it a shot great use of scrap wood and good to try new cut angles on.
John Baker I liked the way you finished the end as well that’s a great tip. 👌🏻
Got that from a fellow Turner off a Facebook group I thank it called (wood turning) kinda self tiles lol
It's a nice little tip I'm definitely going to give this a bash
Nice and neat. Like the teaser for the next video :-)
I appreciate your feedback
Great idea... I'm stealing it... LOL
Steal away I'm glad I gave you inspiration
Very nice video. You handle that skew with perfection !! I have yet to master the skew, probably need a better one than I have. Looked like you were using a spindle gouge a lot also, what size? do you always use spindle gouge instead of a bowl gouge? You should post this video in our group ...woodturningbasics ....should help a lot of folks. Thanks Scott
Scott I use a 3/8 spindle gouge and on boxes o find the wings of the bowl gouge get in my way. As for the skew watch Alan Batty's video on skews it helped me tons. ruclips.net/video/KfeLAHQSbqk/видео.html I'm no pro my any means I just want to share my spin go things. This is good for a general idea of how to turn boxes but a class is still the best way to learn.
Thanks John ....good stuff. Do you have a preference on your traditional tools ....looks like you are using either woodcraft or rockler ....I forgot who makes woodriver (sp)? Also, I agree with you regarding bowl gouges and wings....its just that I always heard not to use spindle gouge on end grain or any type of bowl turning .....not sure why, just a lot of turners will tell you not to do it. I think part of the confusion comes from how one determines exactly what is a spindle gouge ...and then there are so many variations of spindle gouge. Anyway, thanks for answering and thanks for posting your video in the group ....gonna subscribe to your channel ....so keep those vids coming :)
There from woodcraft as I have one in my town. I buy that brand because of the low price for good high-speed steel. Yo be honest I don't like the feel of the handles and will turn my own to rehandle that one day. Most likely out of black walnut with bees wax finish. As for a spindle gouge in end grain, this is how I was tought in the box turning class I went to and all in the books of Richard Rafflan ( hope I spelled that right ) that I have read. I'm using a true spindle gouge made of a solid piece of round steel and not a roughing out gouge (rog) witch is made from flat bar that has been rolled in the a gouge. A rog should never be used when cutting in to end grain as it will catch and bend or even worse brake and send pieces of steel flying. Also a rog or sometimes called a spindle roughing gouge should never be used in face turning we're end and long grain will be coming at the tool. And thanks for the sub, plus feel free to share this video as much as you like and as always be safe out there
Great idea, I've had something like this on my to do list for a long time.
It helps a lot to speed things up and declutters the bench
What a great idea John I’m definitely making one of those. The simplest ideas are always the most effective good work buddy 👍🏻
I'm glad you enjoyed
Great looking project! Nice work 👌
Thanks
Great idea, well done!
Thanks
Love it! Great job!
Thanks and your work is an inspiration for me
Thanks John very kind of you to say
This clears up so many questions for me about how this is done. Thanks for sharing!
Glad to help that's why I started making videos is to give back for all the info I've gained from RUclips.
That turned out nice. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and the kind words
