kara saying “you could move in with me” and offering to buy tuca clothes is a huge red flag. moving wayyy to fast and love bombing. I’m so glad this show is exposing toxic relationship patterns, I hope tuca breaks it off soon
I left something exactly like this on my sisters birthday, I texted her that we were done and that I needed to be independent and worry about myself more cause obviously trying to be together wasn’t a good case at all. She would tell me I’d look better if I got some things done to myself, which in retrospect that kinda pissed me off cause it meant I had to do something to make her feel more comfortable about the relationship without seeing my side of the story. Everytime I let things roll and don’t really challenge them cause I don’t want to only made it worse like I was supposed to be someone already, and I’m me. So all you people out there that are exactly in this mess, leave. It’s okay that you’ve invested so much of yourself to let it go to waste, but I promise you at least you will soon realize that there are other opportunities out there for you to strike on while the moment is hot. And one final thing, if you feel any obsessive behavior at all from anyone and you think that they are full of shit on the time part of it, then you know to go and close that door.
First few second she said to go slow and then suggester her move in. Most likely to have power over her. Think about it. She doesnt wanna go anywere tuca wants. Doesnt wanna meet her friends. And doesnt "bend" from her schedule. Next thing you know she cut off Tuca's friends when she moved in.
Me too! It's so refreshing seeing this show talk about toxic relationships and actually show some of the more common signs. Kara is toxic af and needs to go!
@@b1njjj95 exactly, I've never seen a show talk about how relationships, and in this case a wlw relationship can show these toxic patterns. This show makes me feel very seen, which is funny to say about a show with talking birds and sexy plant neighbors
Also once Bertie and Speckle left, Tuca stood on the side of the lit lantern and Kara stood under the unlit lantern, reinforcement their dynamic even more.
Wow it's almost as though there's literally a shot where Tuca looks at Bertie and Speckle under the heat lamp together to point out the most obvious peice of symbolism in the episode
Speckle mentioning the lamp, and us seeing it be bright and bring warmth to him and Bertie. Then going over to Tuca and Kara, showing the lamp between them dead and giving nothing. Nice touch of story telling.
Bertie was never keeping her alone after all. She kept Tuca feeling loved, safe, stood for, like herself 100%. What even is a relationship without that?
Exactly Tuca had all she needed with Bertie, which is why she was so comfortable for so long. I think she only really started wanting to actually date when Bertie starting dating Speckle, so she wouldn't feel like a third wheel.
I feel like Tuca thinks that Bertie is the reason why she’s single but I feel like that’s not the case at all Bertie tries to be a good friend to Tuca but sadly I feel like that she took what Bertie said to heart about relationships are hard and that she has to change herself cause of it
I'm obsessed with Lido Pimienta's song here, and also just how WELL this show conveys the small things in crappy relationships. A lot of times toxic relationships in media make one of them out to be evil or two-dimensional, and Kara's just... Accurate. It's not always some huge blowout or direct name calling (not that those things don't happen!) but one of my relationships was riddled with the other person subtly getting huffy or controlling when I wanted to be my own individual. Like, yeah, relationships take work and compromise, but what Bertie says earlier in the episode is VERY TRUE, and it's showcased between Bertie and Speckle moments before the dance sequence, it goes both ways. Speckle wants to kiss Bertie in the rain, but she doesn't want to, it's too cold for her, so he kisses her under the heat lamp. Speckle wants to build them a beautiful house pertaining to his vision, but when Bertie gets overwhelmed, he compromises to make something beautiful that they'll both enjoy. (Speckle continues to be Best Boy) I really love how this season uses parallels of a healthy relationship versus a controlling one! And although I'm not super optimistic that Kara will change overnight, I do think people are capable of working on themselves and improving. It'd be cool to see, if Kara and Tuca break up, that it'll be preceded with Kara saying she needs to figure herself out instead of it being explosive and damaging. Either way, I'm so fucking glad this show is back, this season has been amazing and I'm so excited to see more!!!
Best part is, that if you understand the lyrics of the song, it actually talks about the same thing that Tuca is going through too. Which is about a person stopping you from being you, controlling you, and ignoring you, thus hurting you. Though she doesn't blame her for being like that, because that's the way her partner is. Yet, Tuca desperately doesn't want to be ignored, but ultimately is. So, yeah. Basically describes perfectly Tuca's situation.
I can't get over the small details Kara gives off. Whenever Tuca tries to come at her honestly or ask her something- she either rolls her eyes or becomes extremely stand offish. It happens so much and it really shows how she is.
“I would never wanna hurt you” *calls her off-beat just for doing a little victory dance* *insults the activity she wants to do* *makes her affection conditional to her approval*
"I've had this issue with partners in the past." Plus the fact that she said her past partner made herself out to be the victim, makes me think that she is pretty controlling and life has to go her way. She definitely doesn't see her partners as equals. They are there to support her life, and make her life easier. They are accessories to her life, because she's shown she is perfectly capable of moving on to the next thing if it doesn't mean her needs.
The idea here is that relationships are give and take. It's not about compromise, it's about cooperation. The people who love you, not just romantically, will go out of their way to do things that are in your best interest and the interest of your relationship with them. Bertie will help Tuca because she cares about her. Kara won't unless she's getting something out of it.
What if Kara has been avoiding meeting up with Bertie. What if Kara has noticed a pattern in her past relationships that her exes would notice how controlling she is when it's pointed out by a third person. She sure seemed almost prepared for this talk with tuca.
Thats... Exactly what Kara is doing now that you mention it. Like the other comment says, abusers isolate you from your friends and family so they cant intervene.
Interesting fact: A lot of women who were bullies in highschool or who are generally abusive end up going into nursing. Also interesting that Kara uses her job as a nurse as a crutch to excuse and justify her awful behavior literally every time Tuca tries to share her feelings or discomfort.
@@babsdemarco It makes sense. I've known quite a few people with rotten/cruel personalities that go into altruistic professions to excuse/justify their natures.
My narcissistic grandmother often volunteers, and often has worked at a clinic. She’s a “noble” narcissistic. She wants attention and praise for being a do-gooder.
Also interesting fact: a lot of men who where bullies or just straight up abusive end up going into be police officers for the same reason of having power over others.
Unfortunately I don't think so, I've seen and been through this loop before. poor Tuca has granted her so many second chances to be a better person (...seagull) and considering her history, she's not gonna suddenly change after this one time. She was already acting so resilient, and Kara hasn't even apologized to her yet. Tuca doesn't owe it to her to wait for her to change, and I hope she'll realize that soon
This was so spiritual! Tuca finally realizes that love is a two person dance, either the love of a partner or the love of a friend, you need to find the beat both of you can dance too.
translation of the song: There I saw you Sitting in the sand There I felt you Fighting in the tide Look at me in the face when you talk to me And don't tell me nothing if you don't want to but don't fail me, it hurts me I don't exaggerate when I tell you But don't fail me, it hurts me I don't exaggerate wheeeen I don't exaggerate wheeeeeeeeeeeeen It's what you doooooooooo It's what you doooooooooo It's what you doooooooooo It is not looove It is not looove
Some things I’ve noticed as I’ve re-watched episodes: Kara is a Seagull. Seagull are known to be abrasive, invasive and kind of jerk birds (no offense to real seagulls, still majestic!) They are also scavengers and Kara seems to pick up Tuca only after picking up on how alone she is and how she doesn’t seem to keep a schedule. In the episode when they go on their first date - Hawk Flying, she mentions her ex always played the victim and then asked Tuca if she also plays the victim. Already making competition between Tuca and the ex. Basically saying “don’t be like that if you want to be like me.” After their three day sleep over, Kara gets defensive when Tuca calls her out for only doing things by her schedule, and Kara has the audacity to say “Why not? It’s not like you have a job.” So she is demeaning, plays everything off as a joke to avoid deep meaningful conversation, and controlling AF. Yes she isolates Tuca, keeps her from seeing her best friend and refuses to even try to bond with her. Another moment that stood out was when Tuca and Kara were still texting - after s proper date invite Kara ghosted her. Tuca spotted her at a bar and the bartender shares that she had a crush on Kara, that they had excellent texting and then she got ghosted too. All in all we meet several red flags before the obvious ones even stand out.
What I love about Tuca is that she's been both quick and clear about verbalizing her discomfort when Kara makes her feel bad. Communication is huge in relationships. A lack of it can cause a lot problems. Tuca is doing EXACTLY what she needed to. This here is NOT a communication issue. It's a case of compatability and whether Kara ia willing to compromise for Tuca like Tuca does for her (though Tuca gave up far too much than she should have).
That visual art was literally the best thing I have ever seen when it comes to representing a person's feelings I mean it showed more emotion and Truly represented what Tuca was feeling without her having to say anything I fully understood her feelings through that art it was a wonderful
Buying pins after each argument is a huge red flag. Another great, awesome show once said 'when you're looking through rose-colored glasses, all the red flags just look like flags'. I meant BoJack. Horseman, obviously. This episode was beautifully executed, can't wait for season 3!
PLUS, the Fanny pack is STUFFED in the handbag. You know for sure that Kara has said “are you seriously going to wear that thing to where we are going?”
I don't buy it. I think kara only controlled herself because they were still in public and because Tuca's friends were really close by. She didn't apologize for anything like how passive aggressive she acted when bertie won tuca a prize or at the ferris wheel ride where she literally left tuca hanging with Bruce of all people. She might have heard what tuca was saying but I don't know. Something about that face she made after "thank you for being honest with me" has me sus. Ps - everytime tuca mentions her feelings getting hurt kara is quick on the defense with excuses instead of apologies. That shit hit way too close for me.
Love this comment. So many folks here keep saying “Kara’s probably good, give her time!”, like, glad y’all haven’t had to deal with manipulation but do NOT tell victims to stay with abusers. This episode was super heavy.
I definitely agree. At first I was on the “let’s see if this is a pattern” bandwagon but this episode Kara was on her worst behavior. I know there are some things that can be overlooked as a positive change, like Tuca maturing or being more thoughtful in her interactions with other people and her appearances, but it comes at the cost of so much of her spirit and vulnerability, and, worst of all, it comes with the threat of constant conflict and emotional manipulation. And Kara just had a bottomless amount of casual cruelty that it’s just so painful to watch from the outside because it hits so close to home. No matter how you crack it, it’s simply inexcusable to treat someone the way she does. I hope this season ends well for Tuca and Bertie and Tuca gets out of this terrible relationship and goes to a place where she’s surrounded by people who genuinely love her.
@@blackforge1374 Right? People already forget that if Tuca gets a pin for every disagreement she's had with Kara that makes around 7-8 disagreements in a span of 3 weeks being alone together. They didn't even make it past the honeymoon phase before they started getting into that much disharmony.
The way Kara says, "I will, definitely." Strongly makes me think that this season will not end in some giant climactic finale, but instead a depressing and somber one as Kara simply.. Doesn't call her. She says it with such dismissal, following telling Tuca that she has a problem with 'bending' with her previous partners, and the fact we've already seen that she's got very flakey behavior.
I'm particularly nervous about the detail that Kara said "You can move in" and Tuca looked a bit hesitant, but then told Bertie she IS moving in - without actually talking further with Kara. I'm kind of expecting the same ghosting type of end.
That's all you need to know if someone is abusive or not. How sincere their apologies to you are. Do they pin the blame on you? Dodge it? Try to flip it around? Then they're abusive. Dropped friends like that in my life and I'm so much better for it.
Man, I really love the fact that the song has a tropical techno vibe that goes not just with tuca's personality but with her bird species being from tropical places. And as a Spanish native speaker, I don't know if the one who sang the song was Latin but the pronunciation she gave to the lyrics makes it more calm and emotional. This show can't be more amazing!!!
I'm happy with how mature Tuca and Kara were in this scene, Tuca is right Kara really needs to let Tuca take the lead in their relationship every once in a while, after all they don't say relationships are built on compassion and compromise for nothing.
If what you see is not enough to explain what's happening, the translation of the song summarized goes "What you do, is not love". I love to think the whole episode is based on the song itself, because the song has so many equivalent points as in Tuca's relationship. The dance itself symbolizes Tuca's options: To be in a relationship where your lifestyle is not approved and you are forced to go the way your partner goes, or alternatively stay with someone who respects the way you are with no restrictions and rules.
This scene made me cry so hard. I'm glad I've lived long enough to see adult swim host like such nice, humanity filled art. Not just stoner vision, but things that try to mention the experience of living, and not just turn it into a joke.
I really appreciate that Kara has a career that is often looked at as compassionate. It shows that people in positions like that can still be not amazing people.
The song is called Eso Que Tu Haces. Lyrics translated: Today I saw you Sitting in the sand Today I felt you Fighting in the tide Look me in the face when you talk to me And don't say anything if you don't want to Just don't fail me It hurts I don’t exaggerate when I tell you Just don't fail me It hurts I don’t exaggerate when I don’t exaggerate when The thing you do The thing you do The thing you do It is not love It is not love _______________ Today I understood Sitting in your sand It was for you That I stopped being me It’s not your fault you are this way And don't give me anything, if you don't want Just don't ignore me It hurts I don’t exaggerate when I tell you Just don't ignore me you hurt me I don’t exaggerate when I don’t exaggerate when The thing you do The thing you do The thing you do It is not love It is not love You do, ah The thing you do What you do, no (Oh)
I'm hoping that Kara really does treat Tuca better after this. I personally dont think Kara is a bad person at all, and you can tell she genuinely does mean well in trying to mature Tuca. It's just that she is unintentionally being to controlling and strict with her approach on certain things, probably since she's a nurse and has made a habit of being careful and mature on certain subjects, which I can understand since my Brothers a Paramedic and while he does have a silly personality similar to Tuca's when off work, he can also be overbearing sometimes without really meaning to. So hopefully Kara relaxes a bit, and maybe Tuca can help her to just have fun and be silly every once in a while 🤞
I disagree a little bit with the fact that she wants Tuca´s wellbeing. She is making Tuca change in some "good" aspects but not for Tuca´s wellbeing only for selfish reasons, to accommodate Tuca to herself. I feel that Kara doesn't want to put any effort into her life for Tuca, she wants things easy for her, turn Tuca to be exactly like her, doing the same things, so she doesn't have to put any effort in share or meet her in the middle. If Kara wanted to change she could change, but if she already had these problem with past partners and is the same with Tuca, I don't know if she will...
@@MoRPho151 some people you can’t change and even though it’s hard to leave you need have support in your life that you can find comfort in. It’s ok to leave
Though tuca needs structure in her life the whole "Grow up" thing is moot. Maybe what well get is Tuca gaining some discipline & structure while Kara may loosen up a little
We often forget how good Speckle is for Bertie given her emotional bagage. It's easy to get hurt when you have a relationship trauma, but I think we've never seen Speckle hurt Bertie. He's loving and ensures she feels loved. That's a glaring difference with Tuca & Kara.
Coming back to this story after season 3, I like how Kara isn't by any means a bad person, maybe anti-social at worst, but certainly not cruel. She never actively harms Tuca, she's just snooty and a little aloof. However, she isn't, and probably doesn't know how to be, a good PARTNER. What she thinks of as "clingy" is just "actually putting work into the relationship," like doing things that Tuca wants to do more than she does, answering texts when she doesn't feel like it, being careful not to say things that might hurt Tuca's feelings, accepting that Tuca can't always hang out with her, etc. She likes what she gets out of relationships, but she doesn't want the responsibilities; to her, she works hard enough, she doesn't need the person she relaxes with to make her work MORE" (as someone who also had a bad relationship with a nurse, I recognized that sentiment). At the same time, Tuca wants to have a relationship with this person so badly that she bends over backwards to make it happen, and probably reads what she wants to read into Kara's one friendly gesture (note how her first scene just has her rolling her eyes when Tuca and her auntie are cracking jokes together). Kara is only nice to her if it's convenient or she's getting something out of it: she offers to show Tuca the maternity ward to cheer her up because it's right there, her idea of a date is taking Tuca along with her or errands so she can make out with her when she gets bored. Tuca wants to share things with her that make her happy, like the sock on the street or the carnival, with someone she cares about. She only showed interest in Tuca because Tuca threw herself at her (kind of relieved to know that guys aren't the only ones who do that lol). There's that moment in the second-to-last episode when Tuca sees that Kara is making a serious effort to break old habits, she mutters to herself "She never did that for ME," I's guessing the implication is that she finishes that sentence in her head with "...even though I did EVERYTHING for her." Maybe she's not mad at Kara personally, she's just mad at the circumstances. Even then, the worst thing she does is try to force Tuca to conform to her idea of a good girlfriend by dressing and behaving a certain way. Neither she nor Tuca were willing to accept that they weren't a good match because they didn't want to lose what they were getting out of it, even though Tuca was putting in WAY more effort. Even in the last episode, when she ghosts Tuca during the flood, it's implied that, because she never read Tuca's texts, let alone responded to them, she probably never knew that she and Bertie were ever in any danger. As far as she knew, they were at the lighthouse waiting safely for her the whole time, and figured that, if they weren't in any danger, she didn't NEED to talk to them. Again, Kara isn't cruel, she just has bad interpersonal skills and never cared as deeply for Tuca as Tuca did for her (and again, I say this as someone who was in a MUCH more abusive relationship with someone who was also a nurse). It's why I also love the gag in the last episode where she genuinely tries to be nice to be nice to Bertie and still pisses her off when she gets her name wrong. XD It would've been easy to just have Kara be abusive, but it wouldn't have been saying much other than "abuse is bad" or "don't get into relationships with abusive people." I think it's more positive to have Kara's bad habits be as much honest ignorance as anything else. The bottom line is she wasn't a good match for Tuca.
Disclaimer: I haven't watched this yet. For me it's like, at what point is Kara allowed to be selfish? And I don't mean in the normal sense, but someone was pointing out how Speckle changed all his plans when Bertie got uncomortalble, but then say Kara is manipulative when she's uncomfortable with what Tuca is doing or doesn't want to compromise Even if they're not a good match, it looks like they've labeled Kara as the "man" in the relationship (the man always has to compromise or always takes flack for not doing what the woman wants) so everything she does is wrong; like all I see from her and people in comments is she is wrong for not doing what Tuca wants They also seem like a new relationship, two people who met and were like "we're both gay let's try it out" I'd understand if it was several years and they hit a boiling point, but if Kara isn't at the point where she wants to talk about "deep stuff" then isn't Tuca also pushing her boundaries? Someone said it was too early for Kara to ask Tuca to move in, so maybe it's also to early to discuss compromising and intertwining other aspects of their lives.
Interesting how Tuca’s dance on its own isn’t really much of a dance rather than just getting as big as possible, almost as if she’s dancing to impress others, which means there isn’t a lot of substance behind it and Kara easily deflates it. It isn’t until she dances together with Bertie that Tuca’s dance becomes more vibrant and colorful. She dances better when she’s being supported and isn’t alone.
I think Kara and Tuca need to break up. Kara is full of suspicious behavior (buying pins to avoid apologizing SO MUCH that Tuca has a whole bag full of them, offering her to move in and buy her clothes aka love bombing, and being abrasive around Bertie and Speckle.) I think Kara is recognizing what she’s doing, but simply doesn’t care. She mentioned a past partner that was “playing victim” but perhaps they were just recognizing how shitty she is. She wants a smooth relationship but isn’t willing to compromise or even discuss compromising for the other half. She’s bending Tuca into someone who will be obedient and suit her style when Tuca just isn’t that type of person. I’m so glad Tuca is starting to realize how unhappy Kara makes her and hopefully she’ll realize that next episode along with the fact that Bertie is keeping her loved, and not alone like Kara is.
At 2:53 After Kara says "Thank you for being honest with me." her eyelid drops low. I don't think she means it, as she didn't even say sorry and tried to convince Tuca to move in with her by buying clothes. Tuca needs to break up with her.
Watching this season with Kara and Tuca was so validating and followed toxic/abusive relationships almost perfectly. I can't wait for more episodes to come out
And here I just realized I have a cousin whose live-in girlfriend is controlling him and whipping him into a “yes ma’am” kinda person. Ironically, she too, is also a nurse. I could watch this scene over and over again, mostly because of how beautiful it illustrates the contrast between how Bertie brings out the best in Tuca while Kara is chiseling Tuca into this little doll she wants to mold. The part where Kara’s job called her on her day off she seemed happier and willing to communicate more to her boss than be with Tuca and her friends. And right where she says “It’s raining at this ridiculous carnival” look at Tuca’s eye almost well up. Seriously these writers really know how to inject emotions at the right time.
Yknow, i was ready for what felt like the build up to a massive argument, but, it actually surprised me to see the two handle their problems like adults (which is surprising, sense adults sometimes don't even act adult)
There Is the lyrics: Today i saw you, siting in the sand Today i feel you, fighting the ocean Look into my eyes when you talk to me And dont say anything if you dont want But dont fail me, It hurts me I dont exagerate when i say (x2) That you do, that you do Isn't love, isn't love You dont need to know the lyrics, the dance shows perfectly how Tuca loves Kara and want to make her happy, but in the way she loses herself and feels tiny and carried away for someone that isn't worth It. But the song of Lido Pimienta Is art and know It adds Beauty to the scene.
when i first started watching tuca and bertie i thought it was just like another funny show w animated animals. But just like bojack horseman, it deals w some really serious issues, and i really love how they portray them in both shows, it really brings awareness to issues in the world that people usually just over see.
I love the dance scene and the song in it because it is a good representation about relationships and that in order to do a good dance there must be a detain balance between the dance partner in which one respect the other as an individual and find a middle point where the dance they both make is one makes them feel equal to each other.
The fact that Tuca wanted to talk and wanted to make this work but Kara disregarded her feelings and focused on her own was very apparent. Plus she didn't even apologize for making Tuca feel bad, something Tuca was very clear in stating. Kara is a bad partner and I want Tuca to get away from her, Pronto
I know this is late 2022 but did anyone watch the wedding episode from s3 of the show? Because around at 0:49 when Tuca danced: shaking her booty and the shade of purple that popped in the background this actually happened when she was dancing with Figgy. Tuca not only was shaking her booty but her suit is the same shade of colour THAT purple and Figgy didn’t do what that image of Kara did in the dance sequence, nope! He let Tuca dance her way🥰 Figgy is kind and caring.
The fact that she says she's had that before in relationships shows that she's unwilling to really understand the partners wants and needs and if it's with more than one person then it's not the person's wants and needs at that point, it's something she has to change or else she will continue to be toxic as a partner
Not on a romantic level, but just on a social level. My colleagues at work also always "joke" about how I'm living under a rock because I like different things and therefore can't level with them on their prefered subjects. I always thought that I had to change, but lately I come to understand that that's not the case. And I have enough friends who "dance the same dance like I do" so next time my colleagues "joke" about me being me I won't accept it any longer. For the curious minds who want to know their prefered subjects, it's judging different kinds of sushi, talking about different kinds of food delivery and the latest cups that Starbucks relieved.
Kara:she was too much for me Figgy: Don't be afraid to be too much for me,i love every part of you 😢THE PARALLELS!!!!God i miss the show why did you guys canceled?i just wanted to see Tuca and Figgy growing with their relationship and having a nice big family like she always dreamed about
I'm not convinced it'll happen - Kara suggested it, and Tuca looked odd. They haven't discussed it further, or at all, but then Tuca tells Bertie it's happening? I don't trust the setup at all.
I have a friend who works as a over night baker. She struggles with insomnia on top of it and bless her, still makes time and energy for us and our group of friends. She even is trying to take time off to meet someone I'm getting involved in during one of her busiest seasons, because she supports me and is the bestest friend anyone could ask for.
When you truly care about someone, making time for that person won’t feel like a huge sacrifice, because you know they’re worth it. That’s why Figgy is much better for Tuca than Kara ever was.
It's uncanny how much Tuca and Kara's relationship resembles my own first serious relationship: she never wanted to do anything unless is was her decision, got mad when I spent time with anyone but her, made no effort to get to know my friends or family, treated me like a child, demanded that I look a certain way (in my case, it was growing my hair and beard out) and, most uncanny of all, SHE WAS ALSO A NURSE! And like Tuca, I went along with it because I thought I'd never have another girlfriend and just assumed that this was something that "mature" couples did (which is not to say I couldn't be mean to her as well. We didn't bring out the best in each other AT ALL. And at least Kara didn't do thinks like punch Tuca while she was driving or force her to touch her private parts in front of Bertie and Speckle).
The way Kara immediately rolls her eyes and deflects when Tuca brings up anything she’s concerned with was all too familiar. There’s no fixing someone like that. It’s 3 of the 4 horsemen of relationship death.
This just showed me that I am the perfect victim for toxic relationships, cause I thought Kara was perfectly reasonable until I went into the comment section and saw everyone pointing out how controlling and manipulative she is 😢😢
The thing is… I’ve BEEN Tuca in these same types of situations. Just, shrinking and shrinking as the other person engulfs everything that makes me myself. It’s really hard to see from the inside and it majorly sucks. I’m glad I have friends like Bertie who help me see what I can’t.
So, something I haven't seen mentioned: the first episode openly asked Tuca if she was in love with Bertie. She denied it. Then, in the dance scene, it's not just that she's in sync with Bertie - Bertie brings the color back into the world for Tuca. Are they going to bookend the season by answering the question again, differently?
Anyone notice the heat lamp above Bertie and Speckle is on and glowing while the lamp above Kara and Tuca is turned off? and when Tuca speaks to Kara, Kara is now infront of the off lamp and Tuca stands in front of the glowing one I think the lamps represent being 'turned on' in a relationship, giving love and communication and 'warmth'
The music choice in the show is my favorite part. Even the episodes I feel meh about have a good soundtrack to appreciate. At first this season wasn't as good as the first and I was feeling doubtful about it, but now that it's picked up with the real shit I'm getting more into it. They always do better with real plot than filler comedy episodes.
I understand kara, job as healthcare is a lot of stress, and I've had friends who got into that line of work, they're exhausted. but for her to ask Tuca to be with her, and not even giving Tuca what she needs, it's selfish.
If Kara does end up staying with Kara, they're going to need to go to couple conseling, which i bet Kara would object to. Though I'm sure Kara is going to ghost her.
Small translation of the lyrics: Today I saw you Sitting on the sand Today I felt you Fighting in the tide Look me in the face when you talk to me And don't say anything if you don't want to But don't fail me, It hurts me I'm not exaggerating when I say But don't fail me, It hurts me I'm not exaggerating when.... I'm not exaggerating when.... What you do... What you do... What you do... isn't love It isn't love
The song and what's happening to Tuca fit each other perfectly. Because if you understand the lyrics of the song, it actually talks about the same thing that Tuca is going through too.
Noticing the heat lamp under speckle and Bertie was working and the one under tuca and Kara wasn’t really shows how there is only abuse and coldness in their relationship. There’s clear signs of love bombing and I feel like Kara took advantage of tuca cuz it was her first relationship. Kara never said I’m sorry under all that bullshit she told Tuca. I feel like she’s going to ghost her I just really hope tuca doesn’t relapse again.
I can’t believe everyone under the comment section is in full support of this relationship of Tuca and Kara. Kara is passively aggressive and a jealous controlling freak. plus when tuca check her she automatically ghost her. Tuca is herself when she around her friend but for Kara she has to suit to herself standards to make Kara comfortable. 🙄 how are you guys this BLIND
Yeah exactly. People are saying “I hope they improve their relationship after this talk.” After she mentioned that she wanted to move tuca after only being together for like a month, that should’ve been a big old red flag. If that were me, the only thing that would be moving is these nuts across her face. Like Kara is so controlling and it’s weird only a few people realize you don’t gotta fight that battle. Just let people be.
i guess its a compliment to how realistically the writers convey abusive people, huh? that so many people are fooled by kara's non-apologies. she was definitely love-bombing touca there and i hope tuca breaks up with her next episode.
I wonder if some people aren't motivated by a desire to see a toxic person turn their life around. Media so often shows the solution of getting rid of bad people, but so rarely shows a path for "bad" people to improve. Plenty of falls from grace, but very little redemption... That said, Kara is at present fully the worst!
@@justinbremer2281 Look we have seen plenty villain's with redemption arc, we have seen bullies who have befriend their own victims, we have seen a lot of ill minded people who are given double chances despite deserving no type of sympathy by their motive and actions alone yet if ask for any of the characters to develop any sense of self-worth or reassurance that they are better off without that individual it's an issues? Bad people don't change. They never have and they never will. You can't change people and people will never change themselves for you unless its benefits them. That's reality for bad people. Wrong people that you shouldn't waste your emotion on. there's no point to that which is why the solution is to leave. there's nothing wrong to tell someone it's Okay to move on and get out of the situation before it worsen. no one should be your healer or therapist. if they can't see their own faults/behavior it's best to leave them alone
kara saying “you could move in with me” and offering to buy tuca clothes is a huge red flag. moving wayyy to fast and love bombing.
And as soon she said her exes were "bitches" too, it was also a red flag as well.
The heat lamp over Bertie and Speckle is working but the one over Tuca and Kara is not. I think that represents how their relationships are
Those little details will illuminate so much!
I love this comment section so much, y'all keep noticing more and more stuff.
Wow! That's a great point.
Woah I just noticed it. Good eye !
Also the fact that he compromised with Bertie and met her half way.
I feel like Tuca thinks that Bertie is the reason why she’s single but I feel like that’s not the case at all Bertie tries to be a good friend to Tuca but sadly I feel like that she took what Bertie said to heart about relationships are hard and that she has to change herself cause of it
@@alllittlethingzz Newest episode she says as much. Explaining she was using her as an excuse in the first place.
(Speckle continues to be Best Boy)
I really love how this season uses parallels of a healthy relationship versus a controlling one!
I’m obsessed with the song too! What’s the name?
@@murderspegurder5241 - I think the song is “Eso Que Tu Haces” by Lido Pimienta.
The song with the video it’s the best!
The song literally says (in reference to Kara) “what you do isn’t love”

Dude yes. I watched it a few times after I realized it was symbolic. Animation is so powerful
I can't get over the small details Kara gives off. Whenever Tuca tries to come at her honestly or ask her something- she either rolls her eyes or becomes extremely stand offish. It happens so much and it really shows how she is.
“I would never wanna hurt you”
*calls her off-beat just for doing a little victory dance*
*insults the activity she wants to do*
*makes her affection conditional to her approval*
becomes overly defensive/competitive when Tuca said Bertie's good at that one carnival game

Queen of negging
*asked her who raised her*
*guilt trips Tuca into staying with her*
*tell Tuca she should make time for her cause she doesn’t work*
"I've had this issue with partners in the past."
Plus the fact that she said her past partner made herself out to be the victim, makes me think that she is pretty controlling and life has to go her way. She definitely doesn't see her partners as equals. They are there to support her life, and make her life easier. They are accessories to her life, because she's shown she is perfectly capable of moving on to the next thing if it doesn't mean her needs.
Now that the season is finished, this scene be hitting harder than it ever did.
It's telling that she says, "I've had this issue with partners in the past," and not "Partners have had this issue with me in the past."
At least Tuca is willing to change. Too bad it's for the wrong person.
it is her first relationship as well. She is thinking maybe this is how it is. I am glad she is able to see that though and speak up when needed!
Si yo espero que encuentre la persona correcta
What if Kara has been avoiding meeting up with Bertie. What if Kara has noticed a pattern in her past relationships that her exes would notice how controlling she is when it's pointed out by a third person. She sure seemed almost prepared for this talk with tuca.
Abusers will try to isolate you from your friends/family/support group.
Thats... Exactly what Kara is doing now that you mention it. Like the other comment says, abusers isolate you from your friends and family so they cant intervene.
I feel like that Kara’s ex left cause she’s to controlling
Interesting fact: A lot of women who were bullies in highschool or who are generally abusive end up going into nursing.
Also interesting that Kara uses her job as a nurse as a crutch to excuse and justify her awful behavior literally every time Tuca tries to share her feelings or discomfort.
I wonder why that is?? Maybe they like having power or something
@@ajc94 exactly this
@@babsdemarco It makes sense.
Kinda refreshing to see people in relationships actually talking it out...I hope Kara doesn't get weird after that.

I feel she’s gonna passive aggressively push out tuca for someone who’s more “compliant “
@@mario167100 lmao RIGHT. Yet everyone ignoring that part
She is already weird and cruel sometimes.
This was so spiritual! Tuca finally realizes that love is a two person dance, either the love of a partner or the love of a friend, you need to find the beat both of you can dance too.

Basically saying “don’t be like that if you want to be like me.”
After their three day sleep over, Kara gets defensive when Tuca calls her out for only doing things by her schedule, and Kara has the audacity to say “Why not?
Yeah I give this relationship a 60% chance of failing. lol
She also rolls her eyes and pulls away from tucas affections.
Spoilers:
You were one hundred percent right! It was a very melancholy ending to their relationship.
She still never said "I'm Sorry."
Cause Kara feels like she’s right about everything
That's all you need to know if someone is abusive or not. How sincere their apologies to you are. Do they pin the blame on you? Dodge it? Try to flip it around? Then they're abusive. Dropped friends like that in my life and I'm so much better for it.
People like Kara don't need to be in a relationship, they just want an accessory.
your very insightful for bringing attention to this! and i commend you for it ^^
Man, I really love the fact that the song has a tropical techno vibe that goes not just with tuca's personality but with her bird species being from tropical places. And as a Spanish native speaker, I don't know if the one who sang the song was Latin but the pronunciation she gave to the lyrics makes it more calm and emotional. This show can't be more amazing!!!
It's spanish from the south , but tucanes in américa are more in Brazil
I'm calling it now, Kara is gonna ghost Tuca.
same here tbh
Oof, good job!
Damn, you had her number
She does.
How did you know?
I'm happy with how mature Tuca and Kara were in this scene, Tuca is right Kara really needs to let Tuca take the lead in their relationship every once in a while, after all they don't say relationships are built on compassion and compromise for nothing.
Thank you
This was a beautiful and poignant moment in the episode. We really love how creative the art has been in this sow that episode
Glad the episode have that spanish song, both the animation and song represent how toxic the relationchip between Kara and Tuca is...

So true how easy it is to make yourself small in toxic relationships, this is amazing
Thank u
@@MoRPho151 some people you can’t change and even though it’s hard to leave you need have support in your life that you can find comfort in. It’s ok to leave
Though tuca needs structure in her life the whole "Grow up" thing is moot. Maybe what well get is Tuca gaining some discipline & structure while Kara may loosen up a little
She killed the vibe of that day.
We often forget how good Speckle is for Bertie given her emotional bagage. It's easy to get hurt when you have a relationship trauma, but I think we've never seen Speckle hurt Bertie. He's loving and ensures she feels loved. That's a glaring difference with Tuca & Kara.
So good to see tuca stand up for herself and say this
Coming back to this story after season 3, I like how Kara isn't by any means a bad person, maybe anti-social at worst, but certainly not cruel.
XD
It would've been easy to just have Kara be abusive, but it wouldn't have been saying much other than "abuse is bad" or "don't get into relationships with abusive people." I think it's more positive to have Kara's bad habits be as much honest ignorance as anything else. The bottom line is she wasn't a good match for Tuca.
Disclaimer: I haven't watched this yet.
For me it's like, at what point is Kara allowed to be selfish?
And I don't mean in the normal sense, but someone was pointing out how Speckle changed all his plans when Bertie got uncomortalble, but then say Kara is manipulative when she's uncomfortable with what Tuca is doing or doesn't want to compromise
Even if they're not a good match, it looks like they've labeled Kara as the "man" in the relationship (the man always has to compromise or always takes flack for not doing what the woman wants) so everything she does is wrong; like all I see from her and people in comments is she is wrong for not doing what Tuca wants
They also seem like a new relationship, two people who met and were like "we're both gay let's try it out"
I'd understand if it was several years and they hit a boiling point, but if Kara isn't at the point where she wants to talk about "deep stuff" then isn't Tuca also pushing her boundaries?
Someone said it was too early for Kara to ask Tuca to move in, so maybe it's also to early to discuss compromising and intertwining other aspects of their lives.
Interesting how Tuca’s dance on its own isn’t really much of a dance rather than just getting as big as possible, almost as if she’s dancing to impress others, which means there isn’t a lot of substance behind it and Kara easily deflates it. It isn’t until she dances together with Bertie that Tuca’s dance becomes more vibrant and colorful. She dances better when she’s being supported and isn’t alone.
I feel like Kara won't call her. I'm just worried tbh....it might be for the best but it would be heartbreaking
She's still didn't apologize to her i am worried just like you
I think Kara and Tuca need to break up.
Kara is full of suspicious behavior (buying pins to avoid apologizing SO MUCH that Tuca has a whole bag full of them, offering her to move in and buy her clothes aka love bombing, and being abrasive around Bertie and Speckle.)
I think Kara is recognizing what she’s doing, but simply doesn’t care.
Its incredible how Kara seems to have understood the problem but she didn't say anything to compromise. This is so realistic.
I desperately want Tuca and Bertie to get a season 4
Yknow, i was ready for what felt like the build up to a massive argument, but, it actually surprised me to see the two handle their problems like adults (which is surprising, sense adults sometimes don't even act adult)
How very alarming of you Kara.
On the bright side, Bertie and Speckle continue to be an absolute delight.
There Is the lyrics:
Today i saw you, siting in the sand
Today i feel you, fighting the ocean
Look into my eyes when you talk to me
And dont say anything if you dont want
But dont fail me, It hurts me
I dont exagerate when i say (x2)
That you do, that you do
Isn't love, isn't love
You dont need to know the lyrics, the dance shows perfectly how Tuca loves Kara and want to make her happy, but in the way she loses herself and feels tiny and carried away for someone that isn't worth It.
But the song of Lido Pimienta Is art and know It adds Beauty to the scene.
when i first started watching tuca and bertie i thought it was just like another funny show w animated animals. But just like bojack horseman, it deals w some really serious issues, and i really love how they portray them in both shows, it really brings awareness to issues in the world that people usually just over see.
hoping this doesn't cause tuca to relapse
Oh. Oh no. OH. NO.
NOO OMG. My heart will shatter
I love the dance scene and the song in it because it is a good representation about relationships and that in order to do a good dance there must be a detain balance between the dance partner in which one respect the other as an individual and find a middle point where the dance they both make is one makes them feel equal to each other.
the dance scene was just amazing, so meaningful and deep, this show is great, let's all say thanks to adult swim ❤️
The most beautiful scene in the show hands down🙌
What gets me is the part where Kara says she's too exhausted to meet new people. When earlier she introduced Tuca to like a dozen of her friends.
Lol I hope Kara ghosts Tuca. Tuca does not need that energy in her life.
Wait what- No, they are better off not even being together. Kara ghosting Tuca just makes things worse.
@@hell0k1tty641 Kara already did that…
Spoiler alert: She already did and Tuca moved on.
It happens and it's painful.
If kara had that talk in her previous relationships, it doesn't sound like she's really ready for a serious one
You can tell how she's not smiling. She's not being genuine with her Apology.
"I've had this issue with partners in the past." Is a TERRIBLY BIG RED FLAG.
This was sooo well done
Not on a romantic level, but just on a social level. My colleagues at work also always "joke" about how I'm living under a rock because I like different things and therefore can't level with them on their prefered subjects. I always thought that I had to change, but lately I come to understand that that's not the case.
And I have enough friends who "dance the same dance like I do" so next time my colleagues "joke" about me being me I won't accept it any longer.
For the curious minds who want to know their prefered subjects, it's judging different kinds of sushi, talking about different kinds of food delivery and the latest cups that Starbucks relieved.
The song and dance makes me cry so much. The symbolism is fantastic. It makes me think of my best friend..
Kara:she was too much for me
Figgy: Don't be afraid to be too much for me,i love every part of you
😢THE PARALLELS!!!!God i miss the show why did you guys canceled?i just wanted to see Tuca and Figgy growing with their relationship and having a nice big family like she always dreamed about
as much as i like the compromise and how tuca stood up for herself, i really don’t like that she’s moving in with kara
I'm not convinced it'll happen - Kara suggested it, and Tuca looked odd. They haven't discussed it further, or at all, but then Tuca tells Bertie it's happening? I don't trust the setup at all.
Thanks for uploading it. One of the most beautiful and touching scenes in recent TV history.
The sequence with bertie coming in and dancing in harmony with tuca makes me so emotional.
The surreal animation during the song did a real good job conveying the change in relationships from both a one sided and equal points of view.
I love that the song literally says "That thing you do, it's not love."
That’s why Figgy is much better for Tuca than Kara ever was.
kissing under a heat lamp actually does seem romantic
I like how this show uses its animation to show how charectors are feeling, even if its in abstract ways
SPOILERS
“ You mean a lot to me Tuca and I would never wanna hurt you”
Proceeds to ghost Tuca during a natural disaster.
such a pretty song. I ended up looking it up and listening to it 100 x
Ayyy, sonidos colombianos
Kara gave him a pin for every argument they had and I'm sure Tuca had at least a dozen pins.
This just showed me that I am the perfect victim for toxic relationships, cause I thought Kara was perfectly reasonable until I went into the comment section and saw everyone pointing out how controlling and manipulative she is 😢😢
Kara and Tuca aren’t gonna work out, I can feel it.
Facts
The thing is… I’ve BEEN Tuca in these same types of situations.
Just, shrinking and shrinking as the other person engulfs everything that makes me myself. It’s really hard to see from the inside and it majorly sucks. I’m glad I have friends like Bertie who help me see what I can’t.
"I will, definitely" OH! OF COURSE YOU WILL
So, something I haven't seen mentioned: the first episode openly asked Tuca if she was in love with Bertie. She denied it. Then, in the dance scene, it's not just that she's in sync with Bertie - Bertie brings the color back into the world for Tuca. Are they going to bookend the season by answering the question again, differently?
That's friendship.
Just because you don't want to hurt someone, doesn't mean you won't.
Anyone notice the heat lamp above Bertie and Speckle is on and glowing while the lamp above Kara and Tuca is turned off? and when Tuca speaks to Kara, Kara is now infront of the off lamp and Tuca stands in front of the glowing one
I think the lamps represent being 'turned on' in a relationship, giving love and communication and 'warmth'
The heat lamps representing the two very different relationships is a cool detail.
It’s funny how different Tuca and Bertie’s relationships are and who knows maybe things will get better.
Seeing Tuca shrink into a tiny little thing around Kara is so sad.
2 things I took away from this scene:
1. Tuca deserved better than Kara
2. Bertie and Speckle at 0:04-0:12 were just adorable!
Thanks adult swim for bringing Tuca and Bertie back to life🙏
Oh no….this aged like milk
Small translation of the lyrics:
Today I saw you
Sitting on the sand
Today I felt you
Fighting in the tide
Look me in the face when you talk to me
And don't say anything if you don't want to
But don't fail me, It hurts me
I'm not exaggerating when I say
But don't fail me, It hurts me
I'm not exaggerating when....
I'm not exaggerating when....
What you do...
What you do...
What you do... isn't love
It isn't love
she only wants her physically. she's completely and utterly emotionally unavailable.
The song and what's happening to Tuca fit each other perfectly. Because if you understand the lyrics of the song, it actually talks about the same thing that Tuca is going through too.
@@melteddarkchocolate000 ok, I disagree with you here.
I love this song so much, the lyric goes si well with the scene
