@@WickensWickedReptiles to be honest I have always been a fan of collecting toads in the yard after it rains I always want to pick up the frogs I wouldn't keep them I would basically treat it like collecting fireflies I would see how many I could get before I went in for the night then I release them but you know at one point when I was living with my dad at this one house that I lived in for I don't know from about the time I was 11 to my early twenties or something there was a particular type of frog I would always catch in the backyard that I haven't seen hardly at all since then I would catch like a dozen of them after it rained most days but it's years in between seeing them now I heard they were to the point where they're losing some of their natural habitat they're regionally endangered I think like certain patches of them are getting rare and I always thought that was ridiculous cuz I saw them all over the place but I hardly ever see them anymore last time I saw one was on my porch or right next to my porch between the trash can and the recycling bin like I don't know four or five years ago I picked it up with one hand took a picture with my phone with the other and put it back cuz I was like I haven't seen one of these since I was a kid so I guess they are regionally endangered because it's just hard to find them anymore I mean I know I've heard of things being endangered in certain pockets of their natural habitat or going regionally extinct like certain varieties of cougar have gone extinct in this patcher that patch and they no longer have all their wild pockets interacting so there's less genetic diversity in whatever which will hurt their populations even more cuz they'll be inbred I used to watch a lot of animal planet or not animal planet per se cuz I didn't have cable when I was a kid but got that in my 20s but I was always watching nature shows on PBS and stuff like that I remember the day before I turn 30 I went to the local zoo with my dad and they had a type of horse there that was extinct in the wild and it's native range until it was bread in captivity enough that they were able to release a herd back into its native range which apparently is still doing okay I'm 40 now so hopefully they've released some more because one little population from captive horses won't really help them completely recover unless they put some more out for the genetic diversity cuz you know cheetahs have had such a rough time of it that they are pretty much all severely inbred

I'd love to see you do more like that on your channel - perhaps even a Top 5 Reptiles/Amphibians who (historically) have Medicinal/Societal uses??
I mean, it's pretty obvious, and dmt is a schedule 1, so. If someone's going to do it they're going to do it, and likely through licking. I'd rather he promote harm reduction than say "just don't lick your pet."

Just did a fun dart frog vivarium build myself. You aren't kidding about how addictive and fun they are to house. Full bioactive enclosures for dart frog are so relaxing and really help you get through the day.
Mildly venomous of course as I've been bitten numerous times by them 🤪 and have never had a bad reaction as a matter of fact I'd rather be bitten by garter snakes then musked by them 🤢🤮

Dude I started with Snake Discovery, then found my way to channels like Chandler's and Tyler Nolan... And now I'm here and 100% considering buying a 20 gallon tank and getting a few different types of frogs. They seem easier to care for than snakes and things, and require less (albeit not by much) care overall. I'm currently going through your videos looking for basic amphibian care stuff.
P.S. I DO have a poisonous pet--my one-eyed, 3.5-footed common toad, Oadi (the Toadi). I got her almost 2.5 yrs ago when my neighbor hit her w/ a weed whacker, knocking out her left eye, slicing off 1/2 of her frt rt foot, and paralyzing her tongue. She's a tough little cookie to have lived thru such trauma--when I went to pick her up after it happened, she was clearly in shock, not even moving. She is fascinating to watch, the way she climbs and stalks around her enclosure, digs little "hobbit holes" in her moss, and sometimes buries herself up to her eyeballs in her soil pot. I had no idea common toads were so interactive, inquisitive, and acrobatic!

I keep both a Colorado River Toad and a Cane Toad! CRTs are a lot bolder and more personable than most other toads. Cane toads are naturally very shy and will hide all the time without a ton of socialization work. CRTs will eat out of your hand (if you don’t milk them- that process is super super stressful on the poor animal) and will be visible most of the time! Also, cane toads will go on hunger strikes due to stress, where CRTs are easier-going on the whole. 7in is a bit of an optimistic estimate for CRTs; they’re usually closer to 5 unless you’ve got a big female. Big females can get to 7in.
I'm in Oregon and I did not know that. Thanks for that info cause I haven't been here long and I want to go herping so bad. I saw a vice episode where they went into a jungle to find a certain toad to get high on it's toxins. I felt so bad for the toad when they strung it up to scrape it. It was crazy to watch them get high on it though.

From Oregon, I had no idea all salamanders weren't as poisonous as the one you mentioned. Never would have guessed it could make the garters a bit more dangerous in turn. Interesting stuff.
Here in arizona durring the monsoon season the sonoran desert toad(colorado) are everywhere the will lay on the asphalt on the back road highways for warmth it's pretty easy to collect them(strictly for non illegal reasons) lol
I work into neuroscience. In labs I worked in we used tetrodotoxin in our experiments. I think the common story how it was discovered was that someone drank something while camping and died. Turns out there was a newt in the pitcher. Not sure how true it was.

I have a pair of poison dart frogs, dendrobates tinctorius azures in a bioactive enclosure and they are absolutely amazing!! I’m a huge fan of just staring at them for hours and they are so friendly, when I come in they both hop up to the front of the tank and the male makes such a pretty chirp! They are absolutely addictive, I’m definitely thinking about adding more to my tank! I also love being able to cohab them with my mourning geckos

I may be in the minority but the more in depth the better I say. I watch these videos because I want to learn everything I possibly can. About everything. And the way that you explain and are just real about it all, not taking a side even when you do personally, it is simply amazing man please keep it up. Also toads are probably my number one favorite of all pets, and half my house is just animals. Toads are easy and chill and as long as you don't lick or bite them they cannot hurt you. Big eating machine with cool eyes that you can hand feed and see in the enclosure what's not to love?
Cane Toads are my dream pet! My boyfriend in Florida has a bunch of wild ones living near him and I'd love to take care of one knowing that they are technically invasive as it would be a win for the environment, the toad and I. I'll be trying to buy one already in captivity though.
Garter snakes are so underrated...I don't do snakes anymore but I would make an exception if I found some nice Cali red sided types that were legally collected.
Please keep going into detail about the different science issues that may occur from owning a certain pet. It is extremely helpful and interesting. I had no idea why Colorado River toads were so expensive before this video.
used to raise eastern newts and northern pickerel frogs, but only because they constantly made themselves at home in our bakcyard pool and I had to catch the tadpoles and efts before they got exposed too badly to chlorine

When I went to Peru and went down the Amazon river the guide held the wild dart frog. He said he can put them on his palm for a minute or two as long as he didn’t have any cuts.
Huh, being someone that lives in rural Arizona, I never even considered people keeping Colorado River Toads as a pet. They're kind of pests here. I think they're fun to watch, but not being able to let your dogs out after dark all summer because of the toads is kind of a bummer. lol

Sonoran desert toads are sincerely magical. They are strong, resilient, rambunctious, and INTELLIGENT beyond what you would expect from a toad

I may be in the minority but the more in depth the better I say. I watch these videos because I want to learn everything I possibly can. About everything. And the way that you explain and are just real about it all, not taking a side even when you do personally, it is simply amazing man please keep it up. Also toads are probably my number one favorite of all pets, and half my house is just animals. Toads are easy and chill and as long as you don't lick or bite them they cannot hurt you. Big eating machine with cool eyes that you can hand feed and see in the enclosure what's not to love?

Cane Toads are my dream pet! My boyfriend in Florida has a bunch of wild ones living near him and I'd love to take care of one knowing that they are technically invasive as it would be a win for the environment, the toad and I. I'll be trying to buy one already in captivity though.
Garter snakes are so underrated...I don't do snakes anymore but I would make an exception if I found some nice Cali red sided types that were legally collected.
Please keep going into detail about the different science issues that may occur from owning a certain pet. It is extremely helpful and interesting. I had no idea why Colorado River toads were so expensive before this video.
used to raise eastern newts and northern pickerel frogs, but only because they constantly made themselves at home in our bakcyard pool and I had to catch the tadpoles and efts before they got exposed too badly to chlorine

When I went to Peru and went down the Amazon river the guide held the wild dart frog. He said he can put them on his palm for a minute or two as long as he didn’t have any cuts.

We have a cane toad at the zoo I volunteer at- he's rather fun to work with (although for toxic animals I prefer our Chaco Goldenknee Tarantula).

Huh, being someone that lives in rural Arizona, I never even considered people keeping Colorado River Toads as a pet. They're kind of pests here. I think they're fun to watch, but not being able to let your dogs out after dark all summer because of the toads is kind of a bummer. lol
