Any company advertising in my start menu will never see my money EVER.
They're already infesting RokuTVs with ads on the main home page I'm about to keep it turned off and only use it for gaming I swear companies are selfish and could care less what their "valued" customers think. For that matter I'd rather have a CRT TV and buy back cable services if companies are being this invasive this is why people are reverting to watching TV on computers and some are switching to Linux to avoid this crap service. However if Microsoft lets you disable this I wouldn't worry about it but if it's forced that's when it's a concern I'm not even watching RUclips without an adblocker and if worst case scenario if I have to unplug from the Internet so fucking be it time to boycott and live off the grid if I have to.
Just disconnect from the internet that stop the ads lol
@@Everette997 I will shortly create a Linux Mint Dual Boot, and do my best to completely switch to Linux. I am sick of these Microsoft antics. It's too much.
amazon kindle? youtube?
@@Everette997 That's the answer. Use a different OS to go online.
Clearly whoever at Microsoft is coming up with ads should be fired there's no place in the operating system for that
Make it more bloated and will be a haven for phishing attacks
Especially when you've paid for it.
He probably got promoted😫
Hej you are absolutely right ads in Windows and Windows 10 should not exist there is one place where ads can be and that is the Microsoft Store but, otherwise ads should not be in other parts of Windows take care and have a nice day.
Microsoft will make space as long as it will generate cash. They have no interest in the user other than a cash generator.
Microsoft will soon show Ads in blue screen of death.
But we'll never see those because Windoze 11 never crashes.......right??
Latest is Black Screen of Death.
@@billbradley3460 It never does for me.
Only time it does is when a hardware (driver) issue is detected.
Dear user, Windows has crashed. Update to the newest Microsoft operating system now.
I can see Microsoft adding a paid option to reduce blue/black screens of death.
Remember, Linux doesn't force ads in your face.
It may be a matter of time. Ads seem to be showing up all over the place. On some streaming platforms, you now PAY to see ads. 😠JustSaying.
@@LawrenceKaneshiro I don't see ads on web pages or on RUclips videos unless the person in the video shills for something.
@@bite-sizedshorts9635 Advertising is showing up in all most everything these days. This includes some websites and on RUclips unless you pay for Premium. What I am referring to is the discrete advertising that Microsoft is sneaking into the Windows OS. There are snippets of advertising for Office 360, ads for Copilot and some other MS products. Some I have never even heard of. You are getting bombarded with ads, you just don’t realize it any more. Have you watched Amazon Prime lately? You pay for the streaming service. Beginning this year, ads started to sneak into some programming. If you don’t want the ads, it’s $3 bucks more a month.
@@LawrenceKaneshiroIf ads on a Linux distro happen, then there is nothing stopping someone from creating a fork that has no adverts on...or worse case one could modify the OS themselves and recompile it without adverts - thats the beauty of open source, lol
@@LawrenceKaneshiro😂😂😂 was a joke, right? Right?!!
Another day, another reason to justify moving from Windows and not looking back.
Not everyone can, but if you can. Go for it.
The problem is a lot of people can't, if not majority of people.
@@HassanSanem If they need certain software, sure. GNOME is easier to navigate than Windows 1000% though.
@@Britec09 Unless you are tied to Windows due to needing some specific software (e.g. Adobe suite or REALLY need to play certain games) then anyone who is even a bit technical can easily use Linux in 2024. The desktop environments available for Linux are actually simpler and easier to understand than Windows.
I'll move to Linux when games perform exactly as well as on Windows. Meanwhile, I'll stick with Windows.
Literally every change they're making is causing more and more people to switch to whatever version of linux they like
LMDE 6 to the rescue
I have toggled recommended off as soon as I installed Windows 11. Switching to linux is just silly.
Ads don't make me buy their products. Most of the time, i skip over.
That's why they want to know what's on our machines and how we use them so they can target us with what we want. Companies pay very good money for product placement.
@@platterjockey That's why we need to specifically go out of our way to block and ignore all ads, even if you like the product don't click on the ad, buy it from another company or buy it from another retailer
@@platterjockey Dont know about you but i never bought anything because i saw an ad for it. When i see ad i just skip it even when its interesting product thinking i wont use it anyway, its waste of money.
pushed ads make me hate the company and less likely to buy the product. i don't think i've ever saw an ad on any streaming service that made me more like to buy the product and i actually do not understand why ads are so big in modern world.
Ads are how I know what NOT to purchase, really helps me save money when I do see them.
Microsoft blocks certain third-party software like Startallback, then wants to put ads on menus. It all makes sense.
You could be on to something
@@Britec09 They did the same with ExplorerPatcher but desctibed to the developers how to fix it.
What does it mean? ~~ Someone famoous
It's because it crashes Explorer.
That's actually what did it for me, because I rely on 3rd party software and I'll be damned if I am going to let Microsoft come in after the fact and tell me what I am allowed to use. Of course, it's not at that level.. yet, but clearly it's headed in that direction.
I miss the days of Win 7. This whole mess started with Win 8.
7 was the last no-bullshit version of Windows. A simple, well-made desktop OS.
I wish I could put windows 7 on my macbook air (2015) through bootcamp
@@corey7219 I feel like even though windows and macOS are very different, macOS today is closer to Windows 7 than Windows 11 is to Windows 7.
Yes, people do get annoyed with macOS for various reasons, but those reasons are never because of ads on your menus within the OS itself. Occasionally, Apple will promote upgrading to a higher tier of iCloud for back ups, but it’s hardly annoying compared to what Windows has.
Me too. Windows 7 Pro was the best out of all releases.
Windows Vista Ultimate 🪟‼️

Why in the hell is the Worlds most expensive company keep pushing ads on the expensive operating system that I bought. I mean if I bought it for 150bucks I should have control over it.

It is direct scam. Microsoft should be banned.
let's clearly stated that the sponsors of these ADS can go to hell together with their products!
Congratulations Windows11 you have successfully convinced me to permanently switch to Linux. Linux Mint has been my daily driver now for 6+ months and once Windows 10 is EOL all my PC's will be Linux. It only took a few days for me to get comfortable using Linux again..
I'm going to look into Linux. I think it's just a matter of time before windows pisses me off completely.
linux is great. 🎉🎉🎉
I have used Linux long time ago, has to be decades now (around time when Fedora was new or popular, i dont remember anymore) and never really got comfortable with it since back then it required a lot of stuff to be done in command line but now after what Microsoft is doing i have to say that Linux is looking interesting again. Might give it a go before Win 10 runs out of life then im gonna burn that bridge when i get to it. So far Win 11 isnt that interesting since Win 10 can do pretty much the same with lesser headache.
I has Ubuntu since my Windows XP days(even when I hardly use my Ubuntu until it's unusable)

Another nail in Windows' coffin 😉
I certainly don't like dictators putting ads that I don't want! If I want to search on my own needs!!
Microsoft are really gone made with this Ad thing
Website: This item is also added in the Microsoft Store cause we love you and we know you wanna go everywhere with this program in your arsenal via syncing with a Microsoft Account.
But even the search box has ads.. LOL until you block them in the firewall settings.
Well, it´s goodbye to Windows then. Enough is enough!
I suggest a move to Linux Mint. Some people even seem to like it.
So they charge for their OS and give us ads?????? Its gonna be interesting to see what the Microsoft rebel techs do with this one. 🤔👍
you can technically use Windows 11 without paying for it, you just can't customise it and you get the activation watermark. it's why Microsoft implement telemetry and ads, to make people "pay" for it in a different way other than money by selling your metadata to third parties
It's things like this that also make people never paying for RUclips. You just know that when everyone is paying for RUclips the ads will come back.
Feels like Musk should forget the open source phone and just make a open source computer instead.
Actually we don’t know if it’s only for the free version or the paid version
@@CircuitRebornthey already exist.
Microsoft has a market share of around 74% of all business computers. So I doubt then they really care about what home desktop PC owners think. That said, I watched a video the other day what said Microsoft was also going to put nag ads in Windows 10 to try to force people on local accounts to sign with a MS Account. And, from what I've read from more than one source, they are also thinking about making Windows subscription based in the not to distant future. Could be why Linux has jumped from less than 2% of desktops to just over 4% in the last year, and why I'm now running Linux Mint Cinnamon.
If winblows becomes a subscription, that will push me to completely dump it!!!!!!!!
so now there is no M$ office on many PCs. People just learn that there is a free alternative. Might not be just as feature packed, but works for many users
I got to fix you on that nagging win 10 users with local accounts to log in with microsoft one. That has been a thing for a while now. Not sure which update they put it in but i've noticed it around beginning of this year. Its not exactly ad as we're used to them but its a small popup icon in the start menu on profile picture. Its not there all the time but it appears couple times in a week. I always ignore it and i've tryed to disable it completely but its not possible unless i want to start disabling services and digging in the registry.
Stop this second. It's sounds like jazz! Nice name.
Every single video about this makes Linux Mint look more and more attractive. If they keep this up, 4% might become 40%.
It will certainly push many in that direction.
I should thank Microsoft because I never would have checked out Linux if they'd stuck with tried and proven methods instead of all the nonsense we see today. It only took about a month of dual booting with Linux to cut the cord with Windows completely. I take care of my computers, so they tend to last many years. I even resurrected two 10 year old laptops that Microsoft deemed unfit to live. I put Linux on them and they run like brand new PCs.
Techies maybe but the average consumer doesn't even know what linux is though so more than likely they would switch to MacOS.
@MichaelDustter Here you go again trolling other people's comments. linux doesn't even have 4 % of the market share!
@@ghostdragon2593 No offense to average consumer but from experience most average consumers dont even know what windows is, they are just glad it works and does what they want which is mostly watching youtube or movies.
Unless they're planning on blocking the ability to turn the ads off only on unregistered installations, I think that paying customers should be able to invoice them for their use of users' hardware, bandwidth and processing power.
Not sure how that would work but i dont think thats going to happen since i have read in the comments here on YT that some of them get ads even when they have premium. Im pretty sure everyone gets ads no matter if they paid or not.
I'd do exactly that
Its normally corner shops that put ads in windows
The difference is, those can be quite useful.
If they want to deliver ads to my Os, they can damn well pay for it. I did not pay my license just to have ads delivered to me
oh you got the right idea. We should charge them per ad showing on my pc. It is taking my rig's memory and electricity to run it.
Windows 7 has none of this nonsense...thats why they terminated it
Fair point
I have none of this nonsense... because I still use Windows 7 as much as I can, like for 80% of stuff I use, and only use Windows 10 when absolutely needed.
And Windows 10 already gives me plenty of headaches with its forced updating system and/or trying to fiddle with it/block it... let alone this abomination that seems to be Windows 11!...
Also, several Linux distros are already installed on my drives, just trying to see which one works the best for me and my needs as I try to depend less and less on Windows...
That's it! Linux ISO ready to go...
I'm glad I moved to linux about a week ago and I realized that I should've done it a long time ago
best decision ever👍
Windows : 'I own your computer like or no, I force my updates, my ads , my browser and when you visit a black listed webside , I stop you from using your PC because is my policy'
Linux: I offer you full customization and control your system as you like, Nothing I will run without your permission, I can run almost all applications you desire and I can set you free from Microsoft's chains who choke your neck the last decade'.
The choice is yours .
Sorry but Linux can't run most of the software that creative people use like audio video production, image editing, 3d, digital sculpting, etc etc... So no. And it will never run these softwares, because it's free and Noone will devote their time and money in building software that's free.
@@visheshl There many productivity applications on Linux , no need to be windows -specific, are for Linux only. Audio, Video 3D animation etc. The repositories of every major distribution (Debian,Ubuntu,Arch,Fedora ) are full of them. Just large amount of casual users are lazy , because they believe is waste of time to discover them. If someone want to learn, will learn, sooner or later. There dozens guides can search and discover whatever someone need. 5 years ago I was said exactly what you wrote. But now I use linux with ease, I learn a lot things and still learning. Not to mention better performance (around 7-12% depends on the task , program or a game).
It makes me think that Win12 or Win13 will be a _subscription-based_ OS. It will be the equivalent of _games as a service_ on crystal meth!
Yep, most software and mobile apps will become or are subscription based. That's where the money is.
@MichaelDustter You have a big mouth!
@MichaelDustter Companies need to look into other software suites than M$.
The one I work for is not small by a long chalk, and we're using locally installed Office as well as 365, Teams and Onedrive. I know why they do it - all works seamlessly together etc., but Outlook is possibly the worst POS email software out there (but Gmail is going for the title), Teams sends chat to Outlook and God only knows where else including M$'s AI initiatives, while Onedrive will want to share every bit of data with M$ and so is an industrial espionage risk.
I bet M$ are so glad that their 90s policies on school installations mean that companies can rely on employees being 'familiar' with, but often still clueless about, Office.
If it is, then I am not going to play along. I can't stand subscriptions. I wouldn't even use Windows 11 had it not be for sake of Starfield and future TES VI.
Oh, it's one of those days I'm so glad I switched to Linux 15 years ago and never looked back ...
This explains why they don't want alternate start menus.
Gaming on Linux Mint is looking better and better.
I think I'll just stick to W10 until I get ransomware and swap to linux
it seems that my move to Debian 12 last year is absolutely correct
of course, you dont wanna be spied 24/7 and bombarded with ads and updates
this so crazy we get inundated with ads when just browsing online as it is. one more nail in coffin to install a pi hole or something similar to block them at my home.
The 23H2 preview is on my PC and the setting to switch off ads is still there, in the Privacy & Security - General. I have had mine set to off since W11 came my way and I don't get adds
Glad that i just installed Kubuntu this afternoon, windows getting more crazier and crazier every day
@MichaelDustter Linux is useless. It is only good for surfing the web & emails, that's it.
Ever Since they added that "virus blocked" thing on downloaded .exe files, I knew they were taking steps in the wrong direction... the reason I used to prefer windows over IOS and Android is the freedom the user has with it, now they are taking that freedom little by little... they even placed freaking ads in the OS which is already paid by itself
Thanks for sharing

Hi Brian, did you hear about the Logo Fail at the bios in most PC's and laptops??
If people don't stop it now, in 10 years we will have to buy Ad Blockers designed specifically to block Window Ads....or they may switch over to a Subscription model so that you have to pay a monthly fee to remove them.
Time to go back to a Linux build !
LMDE 6 is your friend
Ads are everywhere. I don't know WHY websites (and now Windows) are so intent on having ads showing people what to buy. I mean why?
Money
Ads, only showing me what NOT to buy.
For profit companies that are publicly traded on the stock market always need to increase profit no matter what or they lose investors. If adding ads to Windows gets Microsoft more money, it makes their investors happy. Stuff like, "they're big enough already" or "they don't NEED to have that much revenue" simply do not exist in the board room at these companies.
@MichaelDustter Linux is good for nothing! Just like you.
@MichaelDustterms fanboys, can you believe it?🤮
You are correct most if not all of us do want ads, This is just one more reason why Lenix is gaining popularity. Down with the Ads!

Why are people paying for Microsoft, switch to Linux. I've been using Zorin for years and I love it. Escaping the Microsoft tyranny feels so good.
its like ripping apart the chains that entrap you
Video Games. I am fairly sure most of video games aren't Linux supporting. You can have desktop to just work, but why would you need expensive graphic cards, processors, large SSD's if not for video games. Most things on pc don't require these things.
@@cracmar03 almost everythong runs on linux gamewose thx to proton. Except the anticheat games have still Iimitations. the more ms will torture customers, the more linux will thrive.
I think that a lot of people won't know the difference. I have been to many people's homes after decades in IT and looked at their Windows installations. A majority have done zero customization on the system and many are littered with the default bloatware which they just ignore as they use the few programs they use, it is funny because a lot of them will have live tiles updating with information and blinking and flashing in a way that looks like billboards at night advertising in Las Vegas. I have family members who have never used a single program except a web browser and they have been using Windows for years and years. Also, I would say the largest majority of people I encounter are still on Windows 10 or earlier and haven't even thought of updating to Windows 11. I always get a glazed eye look when I mention Windows 11, like I am speaking an alien dialect...lol, as a lot of people have no clue what this means.
i have looked at other peoples computers and i dont even recognize it, 7 layered toolbars running at the top flashing and "doing things" crap down in the corner like tiny windows they just ignore, a persistent tab that wont close and crashes the browser if you hit the X but its at "some site doing something?" all day as they ignore it... tons of crazy stuff, when i say what the hell is all that they say 'what?" i saw one computer that had so many bars at the top and bottom the usable window was so small you had to scroll to even read the site !! the person just got used to it and ignored it !!
honestly IT WAS LIKE PEEKING THRU A SLOT TO THE INTERNET !
Absolutely correct. I'm amazed at the number of people at work that don't even know basic navigation in windows exploder. They call me for CAD assistance and as I direct them what to do, they're like a deer in headlights.
People clearly would rather these kinds of features dont exist but simply upgrading the OC and not thinking about the negatives (if the person is even aware of them) is something I see most users doing.
Yeah, I've noticed this too. Slowly transitioning to MacOS. If I pay for a license I don't want to see ads ever
Just one more reason to switch to Linux.
How many does that make now?
Thanx Brian. I'm surprised this "feature" can be disabled. I bet they will leave this "hard coded" in time. 👍👍👍
Time to switch to Linux, we need more tutorials on doing this switch.
See what I can do
Microsoft just blocks many of these workarounds people find with the next update... it's just a game of cat and mouse that never ends and people will eventually get tired of it.
I don't need a tutorial, what I need is games performing as well as with Windows.
@@JohnDoe-wl8zk most already do. The biggest issue with games on Linux is lack of compatibility for some entirely because of things like anti-cheat.

Ads should only be on if you are running an unregistered version of windows.
This is actually a good point and would be a sensible move by M$.
You can't make certain customizations on an unregistered install of Windows 11, so showing ads would generate revenue on lost sales while paying customers have the option to turn them off.
I'd rather just not be able to personalize my PC. Ads flashing in your face gets annoying fast. I will never tolerate that in my OS.
On your PERSONAL/HOME COMPUTERS Use Linux versions like Zorin and other flavours of Ubuntu (don't dig Ubuntu really, but they have the largest active community so better for total newcomers to Linux)
On your work computers, you have some respite as the video mentions.
Personally I dislike and avoid ads, but it is Windows spying on me and my work that rattles me most.
right, ms knows everything on your pc automatically, just by having ms 10/11. even cracked version cant be shut off completely...they always know you
Can this be fixed by choosing the international region again ?
They cant have any ads in that, technicly.
Putting ads into any operating system is totally unacceptable and it's one of the reasons why I'm still using Windows 7 on my old PC and Windows 8 on my old HP laptop. And I'm not going to upgrade them to Win10/11. Not now, not in the next year, not at all. I have Windows 10 on my new laptop but I don't see any ads in the start menu for now, but I've shut down Windows Update to avoid such unpleasant surprises in the future. Just need to make sure to always have up-to-date antivirus and firewall.
Yeah totally unacceptable. An operating system must not require connection to the Internet to start up (and let you log in), must not require any cloud service altogether, it has to be completely optional, and screw all ads, what the hell were they thinking?

I never use any Microsoft products. Use Linux.
Exactly. Last time I used anything from Microsoft was 3 years ago. Since then been on Linux and there's no way I'm ever going back.

I dual boot using a swappable hard drive bay, but I run that on the Windows drive and I like it a lot. The new version doesn't install, it just runs from a script.
even without the ads... m$ passively encouraging more users to switch to Linux....
True, STOP adding "features" to the OS and FIX THE BUGS!
I got Start11 to hopefully combat that. I really like it and I found a menu style I liked, however, it overrode 2 other programs I liked. I had Translucent TB to make my taskbar transparent, it broke that, but, I later found that Start11 did that anyway though. The other one it broke was QTTabbar that gave me browser style tabs in File Explorer. I found another utility on Github that it didn't break so I got there in the end. I now only have one paid program installed on Windows 11 and I'd quite like to keep it that way.
The difference between Start11 and other such as StartAllBack, is that StarDock wrote it using the current Windows APIs and so is not subject to the "blocking" issues caused by old code removal in 24H2 that are going to impact others who chose not to update their apps when given notice.
Loading their updates with advertising redirects was not good enough... ☹️

Which one? Until Linux and all of its variants gets rid of the constant need for terminal, and without some kind of unified commands, it will never go beyond the 1% user base.

@@cracmar03 look up how to delete onedrive theirs an older asian guy who is great at security here in youtube.
Just a another reason Moving to Linux 😊
I'm glad I'm on LTSC so I don't get this crap.
its very annoying
Microsoft and Google have literally taken contol of our computers and phones away from us... ☹️
The only thing stopping me from switching to Linux or even MacOS entirely is gaming.
Like they are not making enough money. 🤬
Greed
Ads would be fine if Microsoft gives the OS away for free, or if you're running an unactivated OS. But for us who pay for the license, that is not acceptable, especially businesses like mine (I'm a Microsoft reseller partner) that pay full price and not through shady websites for the license keys.
fair point
They have ads in outlook too. It really sucks
Not just Microsoft, but any big companies push more ads towards instead of secrurity.. All about the money
linux
It's annoying having adverts in the start menu. If you want an advert free operating system you will need to install linux, otherwise if you want to use Windows you will have to put up with advertising.
You could be right there David.
Another reason that my next computer will not be a windows one, and I really liked windows. But now forcing adds on you and also forcing you to use apps like edge and new outlook, it’s just too much.
People seem to be be missing the forest for the trees. Windows 11 is a monetary platform designed around the windows SHELL of an operating system. Windows 10 had telemetry. Windows 11 foundation is made of it.
6:56 "pleeease stop putting ads we don't like it" They know you don't like it. It's not about user experience it's about making as much revenue as possible. If they did care about customer satisfaction they wouldn't be doing this now, would they?
This is getting predictable, Brian. I'm surprised they don't put a full page advert before the login screen. One day..... It is getting to the stage there are more ads in Windows than on Googles web site !!
Don't tempt them Tony 😂
Microsoft: Writing that one down promotion here I come.
I almost only use the Start menu to shut down or restart my PC. All my fav programs I use by shortcuts on the Desktop. I don't want to waste precious time on some dumb ads.
So another reason to not move to w11. I hope when we might be forced to we can skip the start menu by using desktop icons.
Lovely. They want us to upgrade to Windows 11 to see ads. Hope they aren't popup ones.
I feel like Linux is going to gain another per cent or two.
This is no longer a professional operating system. It's a data mining tool you have the privilege to pay for.
I haven’t seen it in the professional version. I guess the difference is paying for it?
There will be either commands to remove it from powershell or some other 3rd party tool. When all that's blocked it's time to move back to arch linux and just deal with some stuff like rgb and fan curves not working. At least I never paid more than $20 for windows keys.
im using cut down clean version with every useless service removed. Updates also disabled so good try micro soft pp.
Adds are popping up everywhere not only Win11, and perhaps the average home user won't know how to load an alternative OS on to their device or turn off the add feature. Tech giants are akin to sheep herders, thanks for the clip. Long live Windows 7.
great - will wait for adblocker before update to 11 - staying with 8.1 for now
Anyone remember the time when paying for stuff meant having no ads? Now you can have both.
