I got too focused on horticultural standards with the tree category. In the industry, palms are not always considered trees (they're monocots, more akin to grasses than woody plants). And I thought elder was misdirection for alder. Elderberry plants that I'm familiar with are more shrub than tree. Oh well, got there in the end.
