Twisted Metal 2 was the first game I owned on the ps....something special about it that the other ones couldn't match. So nostalgic about this particular game. Thanks for creating this, the whole thing was MAGIC. Mannn im pulled in to watch your other videos. Nikateen binge tonight
One of the first PS games I ever played was TM2. OG’s will know that when you shot missiles at the NYC Statue of Liberty on that level, she would explode and it would reveal her in a swimsuit. Awesome Easter egg
Late to this party, but I just wanted to say, great video! I got TM3 for Xmas in 98 and it was my absolute shit until I rented TM2 about a year later...and promptly never went back to 3 lol. Nostalgia is a hard drug mayne.
Good review. I personally never played the first and second games until much later. One of the first games I played on Playstation as a kid was Twisted Metal 3. And I spent hundreds of hours on 4 when it came out. I really loved both of them. The car physics are a bit wonky, but once you get used to them it's pretty good. I really enjoyed the levels in 4 the most. One thing I don't like about SingleTrac's games is that the pace of combat is just way too fast, and it's so easy to get gang raped by opponents and die unless you play in a specific hit and run style. Also, I'm surprised you didn't mention Rogue Trip, since that was their car combat game under GT Interactive. It wasn't strictly Twisted Metal but it did use TM2's engine and played very similarly.
TM2 was the whole reason I wanted to get a PS1. My cousin and I played the Playstation Underground demo version for countless hours until I saved up enough to get my own system and the game. Opened a whole world of amazing games to me, Resident Evil, Riven, Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro...the list goes on and on.
Ahh, as soon as the Rooftop theme came in, the memories came flooding back... That was by far one of my most favorite (and aggravating) maps to play on...
I enjoyed almost all of the Twisted Metal games as a kid. The world, the characters, the music and did I mention the death cry's? So rewarding! Great video NT!
It's so jarring yet funny to see the series going from 'Small Brawl' to 'Black'. Considering how juvenile and light-hearted Brawl was, and sinister and fucked the story in Black became.
You literally described my childhood. I was around 12 when tm2 came out but I had a sega Saturn. I finally got a PlayStation and the first games I got was tm 1&2. Btw you can beat primeval easy with thumper without codes. Freeze him beside the opening on the bottom level and use your special to push him off and kill him
I remember my older brother use to had all of the twisted metal games, he beat these games in one day. I do too remember playing twisted metal. Though I only played twisted metal: small brawl in all it's a pretty good game franchise I have to say.
That was really entertaining, and well made ! Thanks for making this man ! I can tell you put a lot of time and thought into this, and side note, I'm glad I'm not the only one that liked Small Brawl, especially the soundtrack, very underrated.
dennisbergkamp17 I LOVED THE GANE SOOOO MUCH. also one thing that hugged me in the video was he daid endurance was how you unlocked characters, but it was actually how you unlocked the three locked levels
Oh my god these are my favourite games that shaped my childhood; besides banjo kazooie and tooie. I just wanted to take the time to say thank you so much for providing me, with nostalgia, and reminiscing, about my childhood. I could go on and on and on, about the memories these provided me with, but I wont bore you with that haha. Also, I must say you can check my page i rarely and I mean rarely subscribe to people. That being said you have touched me (not pervy, but nostalgia wise) enough to make me subscribe to you. I figured that its the least that I can do for you providing me with this nostalgia. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Now back to twisted metal. My favourite games in order are as follows. 1) Twisted metal 2: Is clearly the best game of the series. Was in my opinion was the most refined in terms of gameplay. Watching those levels reminds me of all the times, or struggles, me and my cousin (I know my grammar is incorrect there; do not care) spent trying to beat that game. We were young, and it was hard. Not impossible but hard enough that we craved to beat the game and worked at it for months. LIkely one of my favourite because It was my first exposure to the TM games. 2) Twisted Metal 3: Was the second twisted metal game that I played. I honestly never remember noticing the game pace slowing down in this series. However, after watching this video I can definitely notice it. I enjoyed this game, because I felt like it built upon the second twisted metal. I mean better graphics and newer levels that made it very fun. I also very much liked the addition of the Rob Zombie music. The downsides to this game is that it was far to easy compared to twisted metal two. I remember how easily me and my friend beat it compared to twisted metal two. I honestly think that is why I didn't enjoy it as much, the pace and ease at which I beat it made me lose my interest much quicker. Side note I liked this game so much, that I remember scheming the plan of borrowing from my neighbour who I despised and never gave it back. I followed through with that and still have it to this day. 3) Twisted Metal Small Brawl: I played this game after twisted metal black. I played it probable around 2002-2005? I never heard of it until my friend from Elementary school mentioned it to me. I was so excited, I thought that it was a new twisted metal. I very much enjoyed the game play and the RC aspect. Reminded me of that CS 1.6 Map, de_rats. No real downside for this game from what I remember. 4) Twisted Metal one: I honestly feel like this is my least favourite, due to the fact that it was not the first twisted metal that I played. I played it after 2,3, and 4. When I played the original I was dissapointed, because I was so use to what these newer games had to offer. I compare this to being exposed to Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion and then playing Elder Scrolls III, Morrowind. I mean looking at the game itself and taking into consideration when it was released, it was clearly an amazing game. For me going from Oblivion to Morrowind was Impossible. i wish that I played the earlier versions of these games so that I could have truly appreciated them. 5)Twisted Metal 4: Was honestly my least favourite of the ENTIRE series, this means ALL of the twisted Metal games combined. I'm talking Black, Head On, and the Twisted Metal game for PS3. I mean I got this game with my PS4 that I got for Christmas, I mean the excitement alone from this was more then I can even fully remember. However, my dislike of the game came rather quickly. I mean was it just me or was that game just impossible to beat. I mean I found that I could not beat that game without using cheats. I remember making it to the final level with extreme difficulty and realized how unbelievably difficult it was. Sweet Tooths Special was so OP (Over Powered) from what I remember. I mean those three skulls would like follow you to anywhere on the map and do unfair amounts of damage? About the only thing I truly enjoyed about the game, is getting it for Christmas and the fact that my parents were aware of how much I liked it shocked me. My other favourite thing was that I absolutely remember that the song from the first map, Rob Zombies - Dragula (remix), was my favourite at the time. I use to put the disc in a CD player, because it had the ability to be played as a music CD. I remember when I heard Rob Zombies Dragula for the first time, probably around 2011-2013?. I was beyond excited and nostalgic toward my childhood, because it brought back so many memories. Well that is enough for me for now. I honestly do not expect you to read this entire thing. I just figured that I would let you know how much, I appreciated this video, how much Twisted Metal Affected my childhood, and reminded me of how much I miss the game. As a result my cousin and I will be meeting up this week to have a get baked and play TM2 all day. I have you to thank you for that. Again I know that subscribing to you, in my opinion does not compare to how much this video meant to me, but I figured that it was the least I could do.
Thanks for subscribing I'm glad I could hit home with you on this series! I feel a lot of the same ways about TM2... A lot of great memories playing it with my friends, and just being surprised at every little secret and Easter egg. Absolutely great times!
aw dude I hated sweet tooth on tm4 it got to the point were I didn't even wanna play it anymore even though I still enjoyed but I completely agree with you on tm2 being the best so many memories with that game.
I loved these games, would've been great to see these games get a remake on current generation of consoles. I just realized the music that plays on Twisted Metal 1 and 2 are remade for Twisted Metal Small Brawl and Twisted Metal Black. For example the song from L.A. Rooftops on TM1 plays on the Suburbs level on TM Black. I also remember how music was shared between the Twisted Metal and Jet Moto games.
its funny i started with 3 and it will always have a soft part in my heart and 4 is the game i got with my psone in the early 2000's and while 2 is the best 3 and 4 are good games in their own right
It’s funny how our experiences hold up so much more than the technical qualities of a game. There are so many games from my childhood that weren’t considered great, some barely considered good, that are fantastic in my eyes. Thanks for watching and sharing!
long time viewer i love your reviews for wrestling games that's what got me into your channel. ever thought of doing the wwe games on the wii i hear those are pretty cool too?
Twisted Metal 2 was the 1st game i bought for my playstation. Napalm darktooth he don't like that lol. 4 was the worst. Loved the story, & being able to play as Calypso. Also i had to always play useing the Run N Gun controler setting.
Pretty late to the party here, good video on one of my favorite series.I gotta say 2 is still my favorite,I remember being disappointed with 3 and even more with 4,though I played them religiously, the 989 Twisted Metals where too cartoony for my taste, though I liked the idea of a boss every level in 4.Just the characters in 4 where a bit wacky(Saturday Morning cartoon wacky).Capt Grimm was kinda cool, reminded me of those old crazy hot rod model kits by Tom Daniels.
Thanks for sharing. I remember buying TM3 when it dropped and though I knew it wasn’t on the same level as TM2, I played so much of it. Not so much so with 4 though.
Small Brawl was the best, me an my brother played it all the time together and was we discovered trapper we were shocked and had no idea What to do...it actually took quite a few tries to defeat him
We're probably the same age, bro, our experiences are too alike...Then again, I'm sure it was common, lol. I'm 34 and I also had a Saturn first. My mother was a teacher and during days where she'd go into school to work on shit when kids had off, I'd tail with and play Twisted Metal 2 with another teachers kid who had a PS. That was my first experience and I wound up buying Twisted Metal 1 before I even had a Playstation....That would come the following month (I think I read the manual every day for that month)....All based on the strength of TM2. I also played Singletrac games religiously and when I hacked my PS classic and added Jet Moto, I also couldn't remember hearing the Los Angeles theme in that game as a kid either....It too being my favorite track from the games. (I love the lower guitar tuning in the Small Brawl version!). I don't have hate for TM 3 and 4, but liked Rogue Trip better than both, I'd say. I was 16 by time Small Brawl was released and had gotten rid of my Playstation for more guitar shit, so never got a chance to play it until recently as well. The music in the treetop level in Small Brawl kinda reminds me of the music in the swamps levels from Jet Moto. Everyone can say what they want about "Rose colored glasses" but, I gotta agree with you 100% here.
Twisted Metal 2 and Rogue Trip were my favorite car combat games. It's unfortunate that I never got to play Small Brawl, as it looked like it would have been my favorite, because I like the concept and creative level design.
I got into the series with TM2. I liked it so much, that I found 3 hard to switch to and never even tried 4. Today I appreciate 3 and 4 more and find them very playable.
I played the hell out of twisted metal 2, eventually i borrowed a copy of the original TM and destroyed with Mister Grimm. He was op af because he didn't take that much damage and his special was super strong.
My god. New TM fan here: Twisted Metal 1 - 9.99/10 Twisted Metal 2 - 9.99/10 Twisted Metal Black - 5/10 I definitely don't hate Black, but just thought it missed the mark of what TM is. Playing III & 4 soon. So excited!!!😁😁😁
I played TM2 at a friend's house a few times and then when I finally got an opportunity to buy a copy I got TM4 so I actually liked TM4 and to me the controls felt a bit more familiar to the various driving games around at the time.
+bopper119 I always thought it sucked owning a N64 as a kid and having no choice but to play Vigilante 8. While PSone owners got all the Twisted Metal games. For me Twisted Metal seemed way cooler.
Aww...I thought you would talk about Sweet Tooth in TM4, he is so unfair with his special that kills you so fast. I grew fear for him for that, couldnt beat the game until much later
I do agree that twisted metal popularized the car combat genre. but really mario kart basically invented it with the battle mode on the snes mario kart. And then vigilante 8 perfected the genre.
This was a good retrospective of the series. 1 set great groundwork while 2 was just fantastic. 3 wasn't good due to the reasons you mentioned. Just bad physics and I didn't like the slow gameplay. I thought 4 was really good actually. The control was just better than 3 and overall was just more enjoyable. Fun times watching Twisted Metal again. This was when gaming was becoming cool heh you couldn't talk about Mario without being a nerd but many people in highschool talked about TM2.
I really enjoyed this video man. As a fan of the entire series a lot of your comments or insights really hit home with me. Like how TM3 had those laughably over the top sound clips in the character info menu. Or how the music was and is really well done in the first two games. Anyways I don't think anyone's given twisted metal this good of a retrospective video before. Props man! I subscribed!
to be honest all the twisted metal games were fun except for small brawl and the 2012 reboot was meh but the series overall was a great experience great job dude!
my favorite twisted metal games in a row #1 Twisted metal 4, #2 Twisted metal 3, #3 Twisted metal 2, #4 Twisted metal 1, #5 Twisted metal black, #6 Twisted metal small braw. The first 2 twisted metals were great but 3 and 4 took everything the first 2 had and added way more. New developer = better game in this case
oh dear god, you just be came my Favorite reviewer. Twisted metal shaped my childhood.......
Thanks! Yes, these games changed my entire perspective on what video games could do.
+Canvas 35 Agreed
YES SAME I LOVE THIS GAME when i was in like 2nd grade i used to draw pictures of sweet tooth and shit i still play it now at 14 years old
L1 up down left
Twisted Metal 2 was the first game I owned on the ps....something special about it that the other ones couldn't match. So nostalgic about this particular game. Thanks for creating this, the whole thing was MAGIC. Mannn im pulled in to watch your other videos. Nikateen binge tonight
TM2 is sooooooo epic.
One of the first PS games I ever played was TM2. OG’s will know that when you shot missiles at the NYC Statue of Liberty on that level, she would explode and it would reveal her in a swimsuit. Awesome Easter egg

Thanks man!
Twisted Metal Black is probably the best of the series in my opinion.
The only problem? No bright colours.
Also it's the darkest game in the series
Good review. I personally never played the first and second games until much later. One of the first games I played on Playstation as a kid was Twisted Metal 3. Twisted Metal 2 is the best TM game ever imo! And this series was my earliest childhood as well. So many memories of this series :)
It’s a very good game
I'm late to this but I can say I have never been more disappointed in my life than the first time I played TM3 after being a massive fan of 2
Not me I absolutely loved every single TM game ever made.
The first game i played on my Ps1 was Twisted Metal 3. I Love that game. Its my favorite. And not saying its the best, its just my favorite.
I enjoyed almost all of the Twisted Metal games as a kid.
The world, the characters, the music and did I mention the death cry's?
So rewarding!
Great video NT!

I played the hell out of this series TM2 and TMB were definitley the ones I liked the most Dope video as always
Great video; I loved all the Rob Zombie and Pitchshifter songs :)
Fantastic Review!
I’ll always have a special place in my memory for Twisted Metal 2
Thanks a lot! Me too, it’s a special game from a very good time in my life.
I remember my older brother use to had all of the twisted metal games, he beat these games in one day. I do too remember playing twisted metal. Though I only played twisted metal: small brawl in all it's a pretty good game franchise I have to say.
Twisted Metal 2 really encapsulated the 90s for me, the ost, the art style etc just nailed the vibes of it all lol
It’s like a nastogic trip back to that time. Such a fantastic time to be a young gamer back then!
8:45 "That's strange it tastes like AAAAAAAARGH!!"
Never had 'AAAAAAAARGH!' Before, does it taste like Goofy's *YA HOHOHOHWEEE* or *Wilhelm Scream* ?
This was a really helpful review for me since I missed out on TM as a kid and always wanted to try it out. Awesome video!
That was really entertaining, and well made ! Thanks for making this man ! I can tell you put a lot of time and thought into this, and side note, I'm glad I'm not the only one that liked Small Brawl, especially the soundtrack, very underrated.
dennisbergkamp17 thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed the video!
dennisbergkamp17 I LOVED THE GANE SOOOO MUCH. also one thing that hugged me in the video was he daid endurance was how you unlocked characters, but it was actually how you unlocked the three locked levels
mr. Pheomix this video hugged you how nice
Oh my god these are my favourite games that shaped my childhood; besides banjo kazooie and tooie.

Better late than never.. I just found your videos tonight and I can't stop watching.!!
Twisted Metal Black was the best for me. I loved the story aspect of the game
So many awesome memories from my childhood comes from Twisted metal 2. Awesome review👍
twisted metal 1 and 2 are my favorite ones
Awesome game
So far twisted 1, 2 and head on are the best IMO
@@christopherjordan6235 I agree 100 %.
Head On was my first game, and I absolutely love it! Mr. Slam for the win bois!
At 25:00, I had to replay a few times. 🤣
This might be my favorite channel
More wrestling and retro gaming keep it up you rule !
"Oh that's strange it teasts like-GHAAAA!"
Best video game quote ever
I remember loving the hell outta TW4 back in the day
And also, what is the game shown in your intro at 0:15 with the cow fighting that pig in the boxing ring?
Great overview of the Twisted Metal ps1 games! This was also one of my first 32 bit games.
Awesome video. I just bought Twisted Metal 1 and 2 digitally to play on the ps3 and ps vita
Twisted metal was so bout it I always loved Sweet Tooth and Mr Grimm
This deserves so many more views. Such a great review!
Your presence on RUclips is sorely missed, dude. Please come back.
Good news past self, Nikateen came back!
its funny i started with 3 and it will always have a soft part in my heart and 4 is the game i got with my psone in the early 2000's and while 2 is the best 3 and 4 are good games in their own right

Bullshit that this video doesn't have 1 million views. I come back to it every 4-6 months.
Lol! Thanks man! I love this series so damn much, I was just playing TM2 last night!!
I have seen this a favourite series for many.
14:10 "My WELL-DESERVED ending."
*shows clip of playing with invincibility and unlimited weapons cheats*
Twisted Metal 2 was the 1st game i bought for my playstation. Napalm darktooth he don't like that lol.
4 was the worst. Loved the story, & being able to play as Calypso.
Also i had to always play useing the Run N Gun controler setting.
I'm already waiting for the second part of this retrospective!
The Rooftop Stage I love in TW1

Small Brawl was the best, me an my brother played it all the time together and was we discovered trapper we were shocked and had no idea What to do...it actually took quite a few tries to defeat him
I loved Twisted Metal 2 especially when you got to blow up the Effel Tower
TM black was my first game to ever play and came with the ps2 bundle
That LA Music from Jet Moto always felt like it belonged on the Paris level, or lead to it
I remember my friends use to meme that yellow jacket ending “Tastes like GAAAAAAAAH” Gaaaaaah? Wonder what that tastes like
"Sounds good to me baby!"
Baby? Is there a cancelled romantic plot? I need answers.
If they could combine today's graphics with Twisted Metal 2s Fast Pace play and excellent controls we'd have a great game
Minon's ending in TM2 is so satisfying
We're probably the same age, bro, our experiences are too alike...Then again, I'm sure it was common, lol. I'm 34 and I also had a Saturn first. Tbh e and are will always be my favs I love the music and gameplay
Twisted Metal 2 and Rogue Trip were my favorite car combat games. It's unfortunate that I never got to play Small Brawl, as it looked like it would have been my favorite, because I like the concept and creative level design.
Calypso made it start off in a demolition derby so the peope wouldn't see the full contest coming when it takes place in the city
TM4 is my favorite one. It was the first one I played, its not perfect but it holds a warm place in my heart
I absolutely loved the whole twisted metal series, played TM3 more than the rest. Wasn't a giant fan of the recent ones though.
Rooftop combat was also a secret map in TM2
The LA theme is my favorite as well 😁
Twisted metal 2 minion is a fckin BEAST
I got into the series with TM2. I liked it so much, that I found 3 hard to switch to and never even tried 4. Today I appreciate 3 and 4 more and find them very playable.
Awesome Reviews on the Twisted metal games :D
your vids kick ass, man. fun little nostalgia trip too!
Will you review the syphon filter series? Twisted metal and at phone filter literally my childhood.
Twisted Metal is tight is tight.
I played the hell out of twisted metal 2, eventually i borrowed a copy of the original TM and destroyed with Mister Grimm. He was op af because he didn't take that much damage and his special was super strong.
They need to make an open world Twisted Metal
My god.
New TM fan here:
Twisted Metal 1 - 9.99/10
Twisted Metal 2 - 9.99/10
Twisted Metal Black - 5/10
I definitely don't hate Black, but just thought it missed the mark of what TM is.
Playing III & 4 soon. So excited!!!😁😁😁
Black is a really good game, I’m just not a huge fan of the setting. It plays amazingly though.
I played TM2 at a friend's house a few times and then when I finally got an opportunity to buy a copy I got TM4 so I actually liked TM4 and to me the controls felt a bit more familiar to the various driving games around at the time.
The 2012 reboot introduced me to the series
the 3rd one was my favorite, I liked 1 and 2 but idk 3 was always the most fun to me.
That roof theme tho
I liked the Twisted Metal series but I enjoyed Vigilante 8 so much more. I have a lot of good memories playing that game with my brother.
I got to the Twisted Metal party late, played TM 4 and Small Brawl a ton.
“Twisted metal 4 was the darkest game at that time”
Twisted metal black: o boi
I love Outlaw and his sister Outlaw 2
Awesome love all of your videos BTW are you from Sacramento?
TWISTED METAL YAAAH!
great vids
Review WWE Crush Hour?
25:00 I used to do stuff like that as a kid trying to play DJ 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great video!!! Thank you!!
Super super dark series of twisted metal
I do agree that twisted metal popularized the car combat genre. but really mario kart basically invented it with the battle mode on the snes mario kart. And then vigilante 8 perfected the genre.
Twisted Metal II was peak...
Don't take the Mark of the Beast! (666)
I always thought Axel looked like those really bad lego "cars" you'd make when you were 6 years old.
TM2 was my favorite on PS1
Me too, such a classic!
2 N 3 were my favs
am i the only one still stuck wondering what mr. kane's elixer tasted like..? lol
josh faylert like Faygo 😂
Red death (look up the ingredients) and 80’s hairspray and Liquid Viagra
Vigilante 8, vigilante 8 2nd offense and TM4 🖤
This was a good retrospective of the series. 1 set great groundwork while 2 was just fantastic. 3 wasn't good due to the reasons you mentioned. Just bad physics and I didn't like the slow gameplay. I thought 4 was really good actually. The control was just better than 3 and overall was just more enjoyable. Fun times watching Twisted Metal again. This was when gaming was becoming cool heh you couldn't talk about Mario without being a nerd but many people in highschool talked about TM2.
Part 2 ??
Small brawl ❤️
I really enjoyed this video man. As a fan of the entire series a lot of your comments or insights really hit home with me. Like how TM3 had those laughably over the top sound clips in the character info menu. Or how the music was and is really well done in the first two games. Anyways I don't think anyone's given twisted metal this good of a retrospective video before. Props man! I subscribed!
to be honest all the twisted metal games were fun except for small brawl and the 2012 reboot was meh but the series overall was a great experience great job dude!
my favorite twisted metal games in a row
#1 Twisted metal 4, #2 Twisted metal 3, #3 Twisted metal 2, #4 Twisted metal 1, #5 Twisted metal black, #6 Twisted metal small braw.
The first 2 twisted metals were great but 3 and 4 took everything the first 2 had and added way more.
New developer = better game
in this case
Thirty two minutes long?? No wonder this took so long!
26:23 : Twisted Metal Black is the 5th game, Small Brawl is 6th
