I hope you find this video informative, entertaining, and to those considering moving to Nunavut, helpful in your own journey. Welcome to our community Omar
Really enjoyed your video. I taught in Arviat from 1985 to 1989 so your walk through town brought back many fond memories of the people, the community and the school. Gled you're enjoying the experience and look forward to viewing fore Arviat videos.
Great narration. You won a subscriber.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your videos of Arviat!
My son has been teaching there for a few years but he’s skimpy on sending info!
So, thanks!
Awesome video keep them coming

Great video. How long are y’all going to be there for?
Thank you! Currently the plan is to be here for at least another year.
Hi Sir Omar! Do you have an idea if they will consider a teacher's teaching experience in the past and increase salary? Thanks.
Yes, there is a salary range and your teaching experience will determine where you are placed on that range.
I am a supply teacher so I do not fall under that rule. We are paid a flat daily rate, regardless of experience.
Hi Omar. Is there a fitness center or gym there ? Great informative video!
Thank you for the feedback! There is a small gym/weight room in the high school but that mostly restricted to staff of the HS or with permission from the principal of HS you can use it. They do have an incredible outdoor sports park which is open to public with basketball courts, soccer fields, baseball diamond, outdoor hockey rink, and playground.
@@omarcaneomedia Thanks Omar!
@@TheSaddamer My pleasure! Just to clarify, the school facilities are open to the public on certain days of the week. This includes gym, weight room, and even kitchen. Also when I said gym I was referring to weight room which is quite small but their actual gym is a full size with basketball nets and a storage with other sports equipment.
Appreciate this information brother! Be safe and well with your dog !
Hay, do they provide free housing? How are the children and the teaching environment? Is their a gym? Can singles go there? Are their foreigners teaching there?
@@mobilegamer9937 Wow! Do teachers also earn $130K?? 😨😨
@@True-yj3ur On their website says 80-122K. 1) Does it mean that in my first time teaching there, I will only receive 80k? They encourage me to ask teachers who are already teaching there. 2) They said that the food there for teachers is ubsidized. How does this work? 3)I am not getting younger; can I survive the cold? Thanks for this blog. I want to know these things before I jump into teaching there. Please response. My name is Hever. They are about to hire me.
@@hbabatuan The salary will vary depending on teacher's experience, skills, education, and etc. so it will be different for everyone. Also, the rent prices will also vary greatly depending on what you are getting, so some of these numbers mentioned here in the comments may not be completely accurate. As southerners, our housing is not subsidized, I believe that applies to Inuit and other locals only. Food is subsidized, but that is applied to the prices in stores, which are already extremely high so even with the subsidy, it's still very expensive compared to down south.
Cold is tolerable as long as you dress appropriately.
The main thing I would say is if you are coming up here to make money, you are coming for the wrong reasons.
Based off my understanding, free housing does not exist, but depending on your status, you may qualify for subsidized housing.
They have an amazing gym and sports complex outside the school, better than what I had in Ontario lol.
Singles come here all the time, however it may be hard to be by yourself with all the adjustments you have to make moving up here. But it's absolutely possible.
There are not many foreigners at the high school, mostly people that come from different areas of Canada. I notice more foreigners working in the health sector in Arviat than education.
"How are the children and teaching environment?" That questions is way too long-winded and complicated to answer in message but I do intend on making a video on that in the future once I gather more information. (we just finished our first year here)
