I don’t know what the solution is but, as a teacher, I do think British children’s TV is so important. We have loads of children in our school that speak with American accents or use Americanisms or vocabulary because they are consuming so much content from the US on Netflix and RUclips etc.
That's always been the case. In the mid 20th century cowboys were popular as well as Disney movies all with characters with American actors. Some of what is considered British English has changed over time. There was also an invented language called Mid Atlantic English which was a mix of British and American accents to be more easily understood in English speaking countries. Nickelodeon as part of their marketing also have British English dubs of their animated programmes to help sell programmes to other countries by promoting them as being available in more languages. For example with Paw Patrol it's original "language" which is actually an accent is English Canadian. In the UK it's the English British dub but it is marketed as an additional language and so the programme and the merchandise licences are sold with the emphasis that it is already in multiple countries and languages.
Then there's the opposite "problem" with too many American kids speaking like Peppa Pig - honestly it just shows how insular local media can still be unless it gets a lot of money shoved down it. Kids could be speaking all kinds of pidgin and patois if things were more open, which they should be.
@@chenillesagoe6348 There are many programmes they do this with. Tots TV in America they had American accents and Tilly spoke Spanish. Paw Patrol is Canadian and the names of some of the dogs like Chase and Marshall are names people in north America and Canada have.
I grew up watching British children's TV in the 2000s and I speak with a California accent because of the amount of time I spent watching TV growing up. I was introduced to RUclips at the age of 9 but because of all the time I spent watching American shows I'm stuck with a California accent despite the fact that I have never left England. I do agree that children's TV is important because personally if I have children I wouldn't want them having internet access because of how dangerous the internet could be and I would much rather them watch a TV channel that is 100% dedicated to child friendly programming because if I leave them on a streaming service they could be watching a child friendly thing one minute and some horror movie the next minute if I so much turn my back because streaming services don't have a 9 o'clock water shed I think this is a a terrible and immoral move on ITV's part and I think if they needed to save money they should have shut down ITVbe instead because ITVbe also has a young target audience but the target audience for ITVbe is teenagers and young adults AKA the ones who are actually exclusively using streaming services and don't need their parents permission to do so.
As someone who watched a lot of CITV and CBBC in the early 2010's I feel very sad that they will be both gone within the next few years. I grew up with shows like Sootie and Sweet, Fort Lombard and Almost Naked Animals on CITV. I hope CITV gets a nice send-off
CITV was the best from the 80s, 90s and 00s. There were some great fantastic kid shows like Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, Knightmare, Fun House, Finders Keepers, Art Attack and finally SM:TV Live.
As I’m 46, I remember the day when Children’s ITV was launched back in 1983! It was presented by Matthew Kelly at the start. Remember watching Button Moon, the Moomins, Portland Bill, On Safari back then. 😊
Got some good memories with this channel despite being more of a CBBC kid. The many hours spent watching my favourite shows: Horrid Henry, My Parents are Aliens, Jungle Run, Art Attack, etc. I remember I was even a winner of one of their competitions where I got to design my own ident that got shown lots between 2014 and 2016, lol. That was awesome to see as a kid. Alas, things change. I'd say it's a shame that kids won't be able to race home like I did to watch their favourite shows, but the figures don't lie, linear TV just doesn't have that influence anymore. Amazing how much it's changed in one decade. Anyhow, I'm at least glad that I got to experience it as part of my childhood, and I'm sure many others agree. Goodbye CITV!
@@AdamMartyn Well cool, I still have the certificate and badges somewhere round here... Interesting to hear your reasoning on preferring CBBC, honestly I didn't mind the adverts at the time (that would probably change now lol) but the reason I preferred CBBC was because it felt like they poured a lot more effort into it with the presenters and the CBBC office, and they had a lot more variety of shows, at least when I watched it in the early 10s. I can agree with you about My Parents are Aliens being a banger, honestly I think it still influences my writing these days. Excellent video Adam, your channel is always so well informed and structured when it comes to documenting these things.
It’s sad to see CITV go. I will always remember the good programmes they shown. Eliminator was my most favourite they have done, and I made an animated revival for it.
It's still crazy to think that a channel which was once a british icon will no longer be on traditional TV. Although, I do believe that CITV's legacy will live on, since there's plenty of continuity clips & episodes of shows available on RUclips. After all, that's how I discovered many shows that were on before my time & how I became the TV history enthusiast I am, today. :)
Very sad that a much-loved part of my childhood is leaving us for good. CITV gave me many great shows I grew up with, including Horrid Henry, Thunderbirds Are Go, Sooty and Looney Tunes... RIP CITV, you will be missed by so many people here, we're so thankful for everything you've given us over the last 4 decades - nothing will quite feel the same...
Goodbye CITV & forever. All these memories I’ve watched when I was a child, including Looney Tunes, Rupert, Sooty, Scooby Doo, Ducktales, Chip & Dale & dozens of other great Kids Shows. CITV will be sadly missed. 😢
Goodbye CITV. And thank you for being a part of my childhood. Knightmare, Fun House, Sooty, Children's ward, Woof, Puddle Lane, Rainbow, Finders keepers, How 2, Round the Bend, Danger Mouse (original), Bad influence and many more.
Farewell my old friend. You were my childhood growing up with shows like, Grizzly Tales, Horrid Henry, Scratch and Sniffs Den of Doom, Transformers, Ben 10, Spider-Man, The Amazing Adrenalini Brothers, Tricky Tv, Digimon, Max Steel, Eliminator, Justice League, Jungle Run, Zzzap! Mr Bean Tas, Finders Keepers, Batman, Bernard’s Watch and beyond.
So many fantastic memories of the CITV years, most of which are centred around Saturday morning programming such as SM:TV Live, Ministry of Mayhem and Saturday Showdown. RIP CITV.
As somebody who was born in 2008 I find this quite sad, I remember watching Horrid Henry on CITV with my older sister (she turned 19 in April and I turned 15 on July 5th) and honestly I really think it's very sad. R.I.P CITV, you will be missed.
Too old for the channel but definitely remember the 3:30 - 5pm or whatever slot very well. Whilst I preferred CBBC, CITV has some great shows like Knightmare, Finders Keepers, ****’s Cartoon Club amongst imports like Duck Tales. And of course, the various live Saturday shows. Kids today don’t have anything like that where they’d all be watching at the same time and be able to share.
Damn this is sad. Citv was my childhood. When I was young I only had freeview and no access to cartoon network or disney or nick and I loved the shows on citv like horrid henry, almost naked animals, mpaa, fleabag monkeyface, tmnt, etc.
Ah that's a shame. I used to watch CITV when I was a kid and a teenager. It showed many popular programmes such as Looney Tunes, Sooty, Reboot, Rupert, SpongeBob Squarepants, Scooby-Doo, Oggy and the Cockroaches, Captain Pugwash, Pokémon, Digimon, Hey Arnold, The Flintstones, Chip n Dale, Lilo and Stitch, Marvel cartoons, Mr. Bean, Sonic X, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Art Attack and Batman. I will miss CITV so much and I shall never forget it. CITV was one of my favourite children's programming blocks along with the BBC's CBBC. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
(15:03) I don’t think they will, the last time they referenced the past was on their 30th anniversary in 2013, that was it, I think they’ll just focus on advertising ITV X kids, similar to how BBC three kept pushing ads for their BBC iPlayer channel. 👍🏻
Genuinely curious… am I the only one who was curious about how the CITV idents could’ve looked like, after ITV’s 2022 revamp?? Would’ve loved to have seen some concepts, with the different locations (for example: the train station could’ve had a toy train getting ready to leave, or something🤷♀️)
I was born in August 1979, I used to watch Rainbow and Sooty as a very small child. Then Children’s Ward during the 1990s. I also watched Sooty for one reason only in the 90s. It moved to Manchester and Children’s Ward was also filmed and set in my home city of Manchester (hence my username)
A massive part of my childhood CITV was, especially during the late 90s/early 2000s when Stephen Mulhern and Danielle Nicholls were presenting the links in that large blue and yellow studio with all the cardboard cutouts of various characters from the programmes shown, a period that could arguably be considered its peak of popularity. Art Attack, My Parents Are Aliens, Jungle Run, Sooty, Big Bang, How 2, Digimon, Batman Beyond (or Batman of the Future as I knew it), Dexter's Lab, you name it, I watched it. Even after I got Sky, which added Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Fox Kids/Jetix, Disney and Pop to the arsenal, I was always drawn back to CITV (and CBBC, by extension).
As one of the Boomers who’s childhood aligned perfectly with the Steve Ryde out-of-vision era it’s a bit sad. They showed Spatz…. Still their greatest achievement.
RIP CITV, you will be missed for sure. I was born in the late 80s so grew up in the 90s watching CBBC and CITV when I think childrens TV in the UK was great. I spent a lot of my time outside as a child when not at school, but I managed to somehow cram in a lot of childrens TV too in the 90s and early 2000s. Like yourself, I used to get up very early as a child and watched kids shows that were on. You are right, British UK kids shows used to be great and diverse and not anymore. I loved CBBC and CITV as a child for their original content, not just showing kids shows from outside the UK. The shows I remember liking that most that were mostly original British shows: 1. Woof! 2. Allsorts/Gigglish Allsorts 3. Wizadora 4. The Riddlers 5. The Adventures of Grady Greenspace. This is a show no on I know, knows about when I tell them about it. I remember getting up early and watching this in the early morning. The English dub shown on CITV has since become lost media which I have been searching for years for with no luck finding any episodes other than the original in French and a clip shown in a CITV promo clip. 6. How 2 - I haven't seen it since it first aired, but I still remember the episode where they talked about the history of false teeth. 7. Art Attack 8. Finders Keepers 9. It's A Mystery 10. The Big Bang 11. Mike & Angelo 12. Spatz 13. ZZZap! 14. Tots TV 15. Rosie and Jim 16. Sooty and Co. 17. Bernard's Watch 18. Children's Ward 19. Alphabet Castle 20. Wolves, Witches and Giants 21. Budgie The Little Helicopter 22. Slow Norris 23. My Parents are Aliens 24. The Magic House 25. Dr Zitbag's Transylvania Pet Shot 26. The Raggy Dolls
Great Video! I'd love them to say a proper goodbye but I doubt they will. The last time they had a self indulgent moment was when it when they did the old skool weekend in 2013 (30th birthday). I mean you could make the argument that the decline in viewers was down to the financial cuts and lack of quality and effort from ITV, neglecting their british content. Plus It was the local regions that were producing much of the British content, so as power switched from them to the main ITV, those shows were not really a priority to the main ITV. Also I'm not sure whether this will be a thing here - but other European countries (mostly in other languages) especially on the radio, are required to air content from within the country of broadcast for cultural reasons. For instance mainstream music on TV and radio is mostly for English speaking audiences and in some countries, the regulators are putting rules in to say a certain amount of music has to be from the country of broadcast, so maybe in time we might have a similar restriction, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
Hi Adam, really like your channel and have been following for quite some time now! As a 90s child and being a huge fan of CITV, I’m so sad to see the brand go after 40 years. I fear your prediction is, sadly, going to be absolutely spot on. After the Rubbish World of Dave Spud ends, I think it will be as brutal as programmes no longer available caption appears at exactly 9:00pm, then Sky, Virgin Media etc, will just remove it a few days later. I would love to see someone like Tommy Boyd or Steve Ryde (the out-of-vision announcer you never saw, who introduced CITV between 1993-1998) do a few seconds sign off, as a little nod to CITV’s past, but I genuinely don’t think (sadly) that will happen. Farewell CITV and thanks for the memories over the years!
i didn't watch CITV a lot when i was a kid but when i did watch it there were some great shows on it. the first 4 that come to mind are, Horrid Henry, Almost Naked Animals, My Parents are Aliens and Even Stevens. they were great times as a kid, i'm 19 now and CITV will be missed so much.
Notable CITV Shows Included Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, The Wind In The Willows, Rosie & Jim, TOTS TV, Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends & The Sleepover Club.
If I was a parent I would honestly rather my kids watch a dedicated TV channel with programming designed with children in mind, then going on a streaming service where they could go virtually anywhere, They could be watching something fine and child friendly one minute and some kind of true crime documentary or horror the next. It's a bad time to have children. I don't even want my children to have internet access if I ever have them so this is a bad move on ITV part and they should have shut down ITV BE instead.
My favorite era was 1998-2003 when we had Stephen, Danielle and Tom at gas street and the yellow egg like idents. Also the programmes like pump it up, mad for it, top 10, how 2, big bang, art attack, Bernard's watch and my parents. It especially loved the anime it shown such as Pokemon, digimon and cardcaptors. Oh yes and Smtv live with Ant Dec and Cat which was unbeatable on Saturday mornings. After 2004 I switched to CBBC as I felt citv had lost it's charm it had in the era preceding and CBBC were upping their game
It's such a shame it's closing down like CBBC, this should of have been a 40 year anniversary. I remember watching Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids, Horrid Henry, Jungle Run, and even shows that weren't on in the 2000's such as Inspector Gadget, Danger Mouse, Count Duckula etc. I think it's really bad that it's going to hit those that maybe cannot afford to have a decent internet connection, I feel so sad for those families. Also, all the classic children's shows like Jungle Run, Danger Mouse, and Inspector Gadget are locked behind a paywall in terms of ITVX Premium. Not good.
imma take a very simple guess and assume that when it ends they are just gonna cut to black and then soon cut to your tv provider saying "This channel has ceased broadcasting" or something if something special does happen then i will eat my socks
Something to note - the 40th anniversary for Citv was this year. Whilst previous years did see celebrations, this year saw nothing so there is precedent for the retirement being quiet.
ITV have been trying to end children's programming for years. The problem for them is you can't just axe programmes or genres which are getting high ratings. The way they get around this is they reschedule, defund and get new producers who will change it so much that it will lose viewers. This can be seen in programmes like Gladiators which was rescheduled from Saturday peak time to Sunday, The Bill where they changed the programme to more of an action movie, Top of the Pops where they changed it too much, religious programming where to meet the quotas and lower viewers they had a religious dating documentary and Grange Hill they changed the producer back to Phil Redmond and let him produce it through his Lime Pictures production company in Liverpool. The statistics of children's programmes losing viewers were misleading because Disney have closed Disney channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior and Sky Cinema Disney and the +1s TV AM didn't have much about it on ITV because it's not part of ITV in the same way you wouldn't see much about anniversaries of Thames, TVS, TSW and Southern.
@@DigeeTheGenie So was Grange Hill but I was giving examples of how TV executives purposely cause a programme to lose viewers. With Top of the Pops like Grange Hill they changed the producer who was given too much power to change things but changed them too much. TV people can be bitchy too so they would have done it in a way to sabotage the new producer's career. Had the sabotage back fired the person who allowed the new producer change things would have taken credit. It is possible that the late 1990s in vision CITV was a situation where the sabotage of children's programmes failed and it made it more popular.
I can't say that I watched an awful lot of CITV as a child, but what I mostly remember is that they did air Pokémon for a bit. I'll be sad to see it go, as a bit of a compromise why don't they do a programming block on Saturdays or after school on ITV1, I mean, they could do without Tipping Point just so it gives the children whose families can't afford a decent internet connection something to watch without the need for internet. Ah, well, what a way for it to go, celebrating its fortieth birthday and then being killed.
Itv did put on citv on their main channel from 3pm to 5pm because they have citv channel then they stopped I use to come home from school and watch cbbc or citv on their main channel loved that era😢
It really sucks that ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 doesn’t have an America channel yet. We on,y have BBC and BBC News here in the states and we get most of the UK terrestrial channels’ children’s programs through Disney, Cartoon Network, PBS or Nickelodeon
Thank you so much citv. My memories of the channel is sooty, sonic the hedgehog, jungle run and art attack. I also remember the CITV favourites VHS tapes from 1999 by contender.
*plays sad Violin* Goodbye CITV - My childhood Channels with shows such as My Parents are Aliens / Jungle Run / Horrid Henry / The Eliminator / Art Attack / Toon Attic / My Phone Genie / Big Time Rush / High5 / Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids. and many more shows And the fact is they aren't showing classic shows on the final day is just a disgrace to the channel as a whole. 😭😭 I was a mixed kid because I enjoyed Citv and CBBC - R.I.P Citv 2006 - 2023.
If anyone wants to see just how good CITV’s output was back in its ‘80s heyday then seek out Chocky; a seriously well produced Sci-if/ horror series that was arguably the equal of ITV’s output for adults. Thames made it for the network. Back then CITV would air serious stuff like this, that didn’t talk down to kids. It was an adaptation of a John Wyndham novel - he’s probably most famous for Day of the Triffids.
Welp it’s official, another kids television channel icon is dead RIP CITV 29th December 1980-1st September 2023. We can no longer Be Part Of It. It’s a nostalgia kind of thing Thanks for the memories You will be dearly missed.
I really can't believe😒 that they have decided to close down CITV forever like this and moves all the shows to ITVX Kids as a streaming service, seriously what's the point of all this because there aren't going to be anymore cartoons/anime on freeview channels and this is a stupid decison.
@@caitlinsparkle7717 CBeebies is sticking around as a main linear kids' TV Channel. CBeebies will NEVER go away or close down for good. CBBC, BBC Three, and BBC Four are only sticking around till at least New Year's Day 2025.
The Lorraine show did a thing where they got Anne Diamond on and she and Lorraine talked about their memories of TVAM and showed a couple of short bits of the ident and stuff, but (possibly due to a researchers error?) they did it nowhere near the actually date of the anniversary because they did it in very early January (40th anniversary of the start of the existence of the legal breakfast franchise) rather than mid February (the actual anniversary of the first broadcast of TVAM) so it got missed by most people who would have wanted to see it. I actually watched the whole broadcast on the date of the actual anniversary of the first broadcast and they basically did nothing.
I watched CITV a lot in 2013-2014 Some of the shows were imported but I enjoyed it a lot TMNT 2012 Big Time Rush Victorious The Aquabats Super Show Horrid Henry Almost Naked Animals To be honest, it started going downhill once they got rid of Horrid Henry which was their most popular show for years and years and the problem was they just kept running out of good shows
@@NicolasPetrosLanning Believe it or not, CITV aired LOADS from Nickelodeon, Disney and Cartoon Network during that era. It did a favor for those who didn't have Sky or Virgin.
Shame that CITV is coming to an end, my favourite shows were The Riddlers, Art Attack, Fun House, Sooty & Co., Children's Ward etc. Will be missed would have been a nice touch for the final week too broadcast classic shows but doubt that will happen.
Sad news that Citv is going so many childhood memories of the 90s and 2000s growing up with Jungle Run, Zap, My Parents Are Aliens, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Pokemon, Don't Eat The Neighbours and many other shows as well.
Nickelodeon uk and pop will be the next two kids channels to go so enjoy them while you can as some time soon in the future will be talking about there demises.
CBBC was my main go-to, but there were many CITV shows that would make me switch over. How 2, some of the imports (especially the Disney stuff), Zzap!, Bernard's Watch, William's Wish Wellingtons, Spider!, Batman TAS and Batman Of The Future, Duckula and Danger Mouse... heck, even strange ones like Dr. Zitbags Transyvanian Pet Shop. If they're not going to do anything special for the goodbye, just have Steve Ride come back for a continuity cameo, lol.
I can't find a clip but Good Morning Britain did mention TVam's 40th birthday back in February - they played the original GMB titles, showed a few clips had TVam mugs on the desk and discussed it with Lorraine Kelly. Quite low key but they did make some effort
I loved the game shows Finders Keepers, Get Wet and Fun House. but the number one show that I loved on CITV has to be Jungle Run. I was a superfan of that show
Although I'm American, I think what happened to CITV was super unfair. Not everyone can afford a streaming service. I remember a station called KTV owned by Sky Angel that played old Filmation cartoons and when it shut down, I was EXTREMELY upset, so I feel you. I'm just hoping PBS can survive, especially with everything going on. I've actually watched a few CITV cartoons doing research on the rise and fall of TV, and my personal favorite is Engie Benjy. I love the chaotic energy of the show, and Benjy has a really neat design IMO. Admittedly I might be biased as I adore Cosgrove Hall shows.
I don’t really think that CiTV really died. It just went back to being only a kids block. I remember that I used to watch Mr. Bean: The Animated Series on CiTV when I was younger, and even during its final years as a channel, I can also recall those times when me and my friends watched three Scooby-Doo shows, such as “Be Cool, Scooby-Doo” “Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?” and the iconic “Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated”. It’s a shame to see it go, but with social media, and even streaming services taking over the media landscape, it’s inevitable, and the same thing goes for CBBC, which is going to close in 2 years, and other children’s channels don’t really have as big of a viewer base as they used to at the time. These channels had a great legacy, and even though the end of children’s television is getting even closer, it’s best to remember the stuff we watched as children that have entertained us, and shaped our viewing experiences for the better.
I mostly have memories of going over to a friend's house and watching it. I kinda have a feeling of regret 🤣 as I was a 'sky' kid stubborn and acting all high and mighty, why would I watch citv when I have all these others. I do also remember flicking over every now and again but my strongest memory is of the past 3 years, I got interested to see what was on children TV nowadays during lockdown then went to citv and found a few decent things especially visiting old classics like scooby doo.
It seems likes theres quite a demand for getting 80s and 90s CITV shows to be added which ITVX have said theyll ask the higher ups. My 2 concerns with this is, theyll put them all on through the Premium side of the platform like theyve done with The Raccoons and some episodes for a programme might not get uploaded due to PC or other related insensitive stuff, they should just put disclaimers at the start of those specific episodes to warn people and keep them intact
citv wasn't really that significant in my childhood but i used to be a major horrid henry fan so seeing it closing down feels wrong (i also remember watching it even though apparently it's not available in ireland must've been watching it when it was sharing time with itv)
My fondest memory of CITV was when I watched the weekend “Scrambled” show, and I remember the group of presenters were on about a music competition (for a pen or something, it was 7-8 years ago), so I sent in a clip of me tinkering a very basic song on my keyboard. I remember getting a response saying that my clip would be on the show, and the presenters (mimicking X factor judges) commented on my hands and dressing gown It’ll be weird not having the channel around anymore…
First watched this channel in 2008, when I was 7. Always Horrid Henry. Going to be watching The Rubbish World Of Dave Spud then. I sadly they’ll say thanks for watching.
Fun house, Knightmare! Loved Pickle the clown in it and the dungeon master Treguard. My wife loved Art Attack, does Niel still play in his heavy metal band I wonder?
In the late 80s when I was little, children's TV was essentially a couple of hours on BBC2 in the morning for the pre-schoolers then 2 hours on BBC1 and ITV in the afternoons for school age children. When my family got Sky TV in 1991, to begin with the children's channels (only Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network back then) were on for maybe 12 hours a day and that was it.
Hi Adam another fantastic video as a child I watched both a CBBC and CITV. I did watch more CBBC then CITV but the programmes that got me to watch CITV were My parents are aliens which is available on Britbox , jungle run , my phone genie , horrid Henry , almost naked animals , deadtime stories , Danger mouse , Count Duckula , zzap! , Engie Benjy , and sooty. I am sad to see it go and hope itvx kids adds all the back catalogue from the channel.
Goodbye CITV you were great a channel was a real part of my childhood speccially Mr Bean, Horrid Henry, sooty and many more when i found out it was going to be shutdown on the 1st of September i found it really sad as it was a part of my childhood but theres only 3 days to go until it goes off air for good i have been checking if the station is still running on my freeview tv upstairs still is so far till the 1st of September i may watch the final few minuites of it before its shut off if i get chance my answer to what CITV will do when Dave Spud is that Dave Spud will go off then a couple of seconds of coniunity e.g. CITV ident and then it will be turned off for good as i dont think CITV have it in them to do a tribute before it goes off you would be lucky to see a tribute screen saying CITV Channel 2006-2023 but its unknown till it gets turned off thanks Adam for creating and uploading this great video about CITV and keep up the great content on your channel like aways 👍
40 years God bless i remember wizadora the Riddler the raggy dolls Roger and the rotten trolls mike and Angelo spooky the bottle of bay and many more 😢😢😢😢😢😢i knew 2001 end to me sorry 😢😢😢
OMG I just noticed that PAW Patrol sounds American at first then British English 🤔 does this apply to every English dub out there
@@chenillesagoe6348 There are many programmes they do this with.
I hope CITV gets a nice send-off
I used to watch Horrid Henry all the time on CITV during its 2011-2013 era! That era was phenomenal! And it introduced me to my favourite cartoon.
RIP CITV a part of my childhood you will be missed
Same bro
CITV was the best from the 80s, 90s and 00s. There were some great fantastic kid shows like Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, Knightmare, Fun House, Finders Keepers, Art Attack and finally SM:TV Live.
Truly the golden age of CITV
I loved those shows as well, especially Knightmare. 😭
80s and early 90s was the golden age, loved spooks of bottle bay
Having your own ident be shown on the channel is pretty incredible! What a special memory to have with CITV!

Yeah icl the channel started dying after a few years
It’s sad to see CITV go. I will always remember the good programmes they shown. Eliminator was my most favourite they have done, and I made an animated revival for it.
I'm Canadian (obvi not British), but I do understand that lots of British people will miss the CITV channel. Goodbye, CITV 🫡
For a lot of British kids in the 80s and 90s the channel meant a lot on weekends and after school on itv channel 3 was before digital tv

Digimon was epic
Good things, some of those programs are on other channels
Thank you CITV for the memories that made me. Rest in peace CITV (1983-2023)
Crazy how they launched the channel in March 2006 then closed down their in house children production in June 2006.
rest in peace CITV i hope they realise that some people cant get ITVX due to bad internet
More like 43 years. CITV had originally launched as Watch It! on 29th December 1980
Which lead the way to citv three years afterwards in '83!
CITV closing & CBBC is not far behind, Internet killed the TV star.

My favourite CITV memory is where I can remember watching the Mini CITV block and Fireman Sam was on CITV.
Would Adam Martyn do a video solely on Mini Citv?
RIP CITV, you will be missed for sure. I was born in the late 80s so grew up in the 90s watching CBBC and CITV when I think childrens TV in the UK was great. I spent a lot of my time outside as a child when not at school, but I managed to somehow cram in a lot of childrens TV too in the 90s and early 2000s. Like yourself, I used to get up very early as a child and watched kids shows that were on. You are right, British UK kids shows used to be great and diverse and not anymore. I loved CBBC and CITV as a child for their original content, not just showing kids shows from outside the UK.
The shows I remember liking that most that were mostly original British shows:
1. Woof!
2. Allsorts/Gigglish Allsorts
3. Wizadora
4. The Riddlers
7. Art Attack
8. Finders Keepers
9. It's A Mystery
10. The Big Bang
11. Mike & Angelo
12. Spatz
13. ZZZap!
14. Tots TV
15. Rosie and Jim
16. Sooty and Co.
17. Bernard's Watch
18. Children's Ward
19. Alphabet Castle
20. Wolves, Witches and Giants
21. Budgie The Little Helicopter
22. Slow Norris
23. My Parents are Aliens
24. The Magic House
25. Dr Zitbag's Transylvania Pet Shot
Farewell CITV and thanks for the memories over the years!
im hoping for even just a special caption card we just need... something. but im hoping for a montage of CITV's 40 years.
i didn't watch CITV a lot when i was a kid but when i did watch it there were some great shows on it. the first 4 that come to mind are, Horrid Henry, Almost Naked Animals, My Parents are Aliens and Even Stevens. they were great times as a kid, i'm 19 now and CITV will be missed so much.
Notable CITV Shows Included Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, The Wind In The Willows, Rosie & Jim, TOTS TV, Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends & The Sleepover Club.
Also Sooty.
As Well As Art Attack.
I have programmes for Children's ITV on VHS by VCI & Thames home video
Oh, and another thing, Adam: We’ll miss you, CITV! (1983-2023)
Not good.
0:28 YAKKO WAKKO AND DOT! (Sorry, i’m obsessed with Animaniacs) but it’s very sad to see CITV go 😢
imma take a very simple guess and assume that when it ends they are just gonna cut to black and then soon cut to your tv provider saying "This channel has ceased broadcasting" or something
if something special does happen then i will eat my socks
RIP CITV you will be missed by me
Something to note - the 40th anniversary for Citv was this year. Whilst previous years did see celebrations, this year saw nothing so there is precedent for the retirement being quiet.
No surprise given the viewing figures for CITV AND CBBC kids just don't watch TV anymore to busy on Tiktok and Instagram
The statistics of children's programmes losing viewers were misleading because Disney have closed Disney channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior and Sky Cinema Disney and the +1s
TV AM didn't have much about it on ITV because it's not part of ITV in the same way you wouldn't see much about anniversaries of Thames, TVS, TSW and Southern.

I've been rewatching a lot of clips and episodes of SM:TV Live recently, god I loved that show.

At least the CITV brand isn’t fully dead on ITV2. I hope they don’t rename the block to ITVX Kids but it’s likely they could do that soon.

Thank you for this video Adam........
Kinda sad to see it go, I would watch the final hour but sadly I'm in Switzerland so I won't be able to watch ITVX until I get back to the UK
I remember getting a response saying that my clip would be on the show, and the presenters (mimicking X factor judges) commented on my hands and dressing gown
