Hi Kizzy Yeah I buy those as well, but the flavor that we want to boil off is the can flavor, also if you can get jackfruit in water, the water changes due to it being canned and for months really. So by boiling we get rid of that.👌🏼
If you buy jackfruit in water you don’t have to do this process? I’m asking because I’m going to use jackfruit for the first time and I got it in water !! Thanks 😊
Hi Karo I would still do the process, you can cut the time in half but I would still do it. Try both options if you Like so you canbsee for yourself what you like. Yeah, that "brine" flavour is no joke! I tried a vegan Carne Asada recipe from Tabitha Brown with Jackfruit (first time using it) and it tasted HORRIBLE! I threw the whole thing away :( I thought it was the Jackfruit itself that was the problem but now that I've watched this, I suspect it was the brine. I love this and am excited to try. I find it hard to watch so much water use, but then I looked it up and reminded myself that it takes HUNDREDS of gallons of water to produce a pound of beef (some say thousands). Either way, I'll try to catch a little bit of the rinsing water when I try this, and maybe soaking it would help (instead of rinsing) which would be a more efficient use of water. I've never tried cooking with jackfruit but I'll let you know how it goes! :DDD Edit: I tried it and was able to save some water by putting the colander in a bowl for the rinses, that way the water that’s run through the jackfruit can continually be used to rinse it. I made enchiladas which were super tasty!! I used a little too much no-chicken base but other than that it was awesome. 😄

Hi Conejita🐇 Yes the Jackfruit tends to change color it's most normal, don't toss it out, I've heard this comment so many times, it's just the nature of it as your taking out canned stuff, brings and the long period of cooking. But yes, definitely try this method step by step first and then adjust to your liking.

I am not vegan but just want to eat more plant based I guess, so I had roast (that was really jackfruit ) the texture was of roast for me but the after taste was off for me, and I am so glad I came across your video, keep it up
I just did this and it works!!! The only thing I did differently is that I shredded the jackfruit before I boiled it the first time...so it got more “gunk” out. What I like is that boiling got rid of all that stickiness that the jackfruit usually has. I did 4 cans just to try it out. I will be doing more next time. Oh - I also used a potato ricer to squeeze the water out at the end. Worked like a charm! 2 hours of boiling and it completely took away the taste and smell of the green jackfruit. Thank you!!!
You're very welcome! I'm so glad you gave it a try.🙏🏼🙏🏼💕 You know what I've been doing this last years or so, its I put my jack or tvp or whatever needs to be rung out in a kitchen towel and I wrap them in there and turn and turn and squeezes the liquid out, and I have the most dry product, perfect and ready to use 💯
I always do a boiling water rinse for mine but from your video I see it's good to do a little more; thanks! I think the squeezing the water out part might be unnecessary though because excess water can evaporate while cooking. Oh and nice trick with the straw for cheaper way to vacuum seal stuff!
I have fresh jackfruit that took over an hour to cut and remove seed...preparing it was stringy. Can you do a video from start to finish....should I boil it!
Hii Is the jackfruit ripe? If it is i would just enjoy it ripe, i wouldnt waste the goodness or provides dresh by cooking it. And yessss it can take some timw to cut ot up😄😄
Lmaooo, oh no. You woulda been mad. I'm not Caribbean or White, but I just asked in the store when I saw someone purchase 'scuse me... how are you prepping that?'
When you say Brine, is that the salty water they add to the can? I've made a few things with Jackfruit but it always tastes kind of salty vinegar taste. I hate that! I hope this gets rid of that taste. Gonna try it. Thanks
Thank you for the awesome video. Can’t wait to start cooking with jack fruit. Have you cooked with fresh jack fruit? If so, how would you prepare it? Would you still boil it before storing in the freezer? My local grocery store is selling fresh whole jack fruit. Thanks😋
Hiii, I have cooked it once, this was before I knew better heheh I say eat ripe sweet Jackfruit as a delicious healthy fruit. And eat young green jack, for Vegan meat. Way more affordable, there is a better consistency and flavor to cook with. Because when its ripe and sweet it's very flavorful, harder to get delicious flavors into it.
Hi. I'm from Jamaica. We do not usually cook ripe jackfruit as it is already sweet and full of flavor. However, the unripe fruit is cooked whichever way is suitable to the user. The ripe fruit we use to make wine or liqueur and boil the seeds to eat
@@injuryadvocates7602 once the seeds are removed from the flesh, there may be another membrane on it. you can spend the time to remove it or if you prefer to leave it on. set water to boil. wash the seeds with plain water. once water is rolling, add salt and pepper to taste. boil seeds until tender. (tip: add tbsp of butter, 1/4 of milk to water after rolling boil) tell me how it goes if you ever get to try it.
I have been one of those people who was using the jackfruit with only a quick rinse. I have two questions. How long will the Jackfruit keep in the freezer? A month or two? Also, do you know if there is any nutritional value in the jackfruit after two hours of boiling? thank you
Thank you Omgosh!!!!! 🙄😂😂👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 cause I said that was what I was gonna do next time but wasn’t sure if that was the right thing to do.. so thank you girl! 🤍
Hi Sahar! I'm new to your channel but so glad I found you! Quick question. After preparing the jackfruit, can you marinade it? I want to fix this for my "Christmas turkey" and had an idea to marinade it in veg stock with poultry seasoning. Would you recommend squeezing out the marinade before I roast it? Or would it be ok to leave it wet?
Hi! Welcome to the Channel Love🤗🤗 You most definitely can marinate it💯 It depends on how it's going in the oven, the consistency of your marinade as well
HI 👋🏼 Cjay Yes you can keep the seeds, they dont affect the taste, also by following this particular method it completely gives the Jackfruit a neutral taste. 😉
I used a fresh jackfruit too. It was my first time so I didn’t know to get It unripe. Lesson learned. Came out too sweet for me but I will try again. Maybe with the can type next time.
Hi What would you like an explanation on? The recipe? Why the book is there? The curses themselves? Or the exact placement of the curse book being behind the pot? 🤪 It's part of my Halloween decorations🧙♀️ Muahahahah
My gurrlll, I did like you 2x boiled, then shredded after last boil. My fingers had a tacky feel to it like sap. But I pushed on. In Hawaii we have a dish called kalua pork and I wanted to mimic those flavors, just salt, little garlic and liquid smoke. I still have to tweak it a bit, but it tasted better the next day. I think 3x boiling would have been perfect for this recipe. But thanks for showing me the way. Love all your videos. Keep it going. All love to you.
ressure cooker can speed up the process. Also I am boiling my green jackfruit right now . I didn't precut as I kind of want to make nuggets . But the green jackfruit is turning grey/purplish .... Any advice ... 🙏🏼
Hi Raquel No I do not remove it, I dont remove anythingggg except that liquid lol The core gets a nice and meaty bite when cooked. I leave the core and seeds always.
Is jackfruit supposed to have softness, almost like a gush? I just tried to make it for the first time and it was not it. It’s like I didn’t have all the water out. Here’s what I did, feel free to comment my mistake because I really want this to work for me 😭 1. Took it out the can, rinsed quickly and pulled it apart. 2. Let it soak to try to get the brine flavor out. 3. strained it 4. Seasoned it 5. Cooked on stove top for about 10 min to dry to get the excess water out (fail) 5. Put it in the stove for about 20 min I still didn’t like the texture, it wasn’t meat. I can’t explain it, it was a soft gush 😩
😂😂😂😂 I was gonna say, did you watch the video??🤪🤪 Okay so Give this a try again Step by Step and get back to me. I really want thos to work for you too! Its soooo good. Life Changinnn
@@mookieynr did it come out better when you followed the steps in the video? I'm going to try jackfruit for the first time, and I'm picky about texture.
Hello MysticHealing🙏🏼💖 I don't have a video on this, but fresh ripe Jackfruit is very sweet and highly highly nutrient dense, when whe use it for a meat substitute we use it green it has more of a meatier texture and the flavor and sweetness has not developed, the only thing is, not quite sure if it's easy to cut up the unripe Jackfruit lol Hope this helps🙏🏼😘✨️
Hey Malika😘 Nah boo, like don't expect much nutrients from canned food. Most of this food has been sitting for months in the can. Nah, what we are doing here it's taking out nastiness out of the Jackfruit. Now another thing the a lot have done is when they do less cans, they do less time, which makes sence. I like to batch because I do it once and I have it for several uses. Now another fact about nutrients, enjoy your canned Jackfruit for what it is in these type of dishes, but also make sure you consume fresh Jackfruit to gain the nutritional value from this amazing plant. Hope this helps Sending you love🌬💞
About what level do you boil the jackfruit on? Looks like medium, or medium low? And thank you so much for the video I am new to cooking and appreciate all the inspiration to keep at it and keep trying.
Hi Sabrina🤗 From what I've heard from some of the Channel fam is that it is not, makes sence, I would do it for half the time. But I would recommend doing some batching, you do it once, and you can separate the amount you typically use like o e or two cans in a zip lock baggie and freeze them, when ever you need your Jackfruit it's ready to go and it last a long longggg time I the freezer. Hope this helps, let me know what you do or dont do. Just to help out the rest of the fam 🙏🏼💕😘
I’m curious to know the amount of time to boil if I’m making the for the first time with just one can? Did anyone find the answer to that? Is it about 15-20 minutes, wash with cold water and then boil again for 15-20 minutes?
Hi Aida The process that I show you above it is of one hour boiling then you rinse off and then you boil again for another hour. now I'm doing a big batch of cans of jackfruit. from what I've read in the comments if you do less cans you can boil that for a lesser time for example if you did 1 or 2 cans then boil them for 30 minutes. bring your water up to a boil, boil it for 30 minutes, when the 30 minutes are up throw that water out a and boil that again for another 30 minutes when that's done put it in a nut bag and just squeeze all the water out and then you have dried jackfruit ready to use with whatever you want it I hope that helps.
Hi Becca, Are you filling step by step as I did Olin the video? The water should not be briney at all. Let's see, does your pot have enough water so the Jackfruit can have room to eliminate in the water and not basically boil in briney water? I hope this makes sence. Msg me on Instagram and I'll give you a call😘
@@beccafreeman4694 yes the water can be briney since we are gonna dump that out, is the Jackfruit briney? I've done this several times and I've never encountered this before. I would suggest to try it one more time and see, it should be very unlikely that you still have briney Jackfruit after doing this method twice with plenty of water.
Hi Kerry🙏🏼✨️ Typically, while eating canned goods, there isn't much nutritional value. In fact, it's best to stay away from as much tinned food as possible. In this case, the prep is to get rid of the tin taste and chems that may be in the food. It's not perfect but it's a treat. Hope this helps. Sending much love🙏🏼💖💫
No it's totally normal that happens every time, everyone asks this same question. As soon as you boil it it changes in color, keep in mind that the Jackfruit if it is not in Brine and although in water it has preservatives that are in there. So it all adds to the change. Do not worry about the change of color. Mine in the video is the same.
Hi Sahar! Quick question, I just prepared this and I was wondering if you let the jackfruit sit after you drain it with your hand before you shred it to package it up? Yours looked really light in color and super dry
Hi Ronnie If I'm understanding your question right, you want to know if I let it sit out after I squeeze all the water out of the jackfruit? If so, i dont, as soon as i finish taking as much of the water out of it i either use it or package it. I hope this helps😘
Sahar Belle oh perfect! Yes you answered my question! I’m using it tomorrow, (making your pozole 💕) do you recommend freezing it still or just leaving in the refrigerator?
Oh Great. You dont need to freeze it if you are going to use it tomorrow. I just freeze it because I make a lot and I wont need it all. Now, if you are going to make my pozole with my exact measurements and the same for the jackfruit. I will say this, if you like your pozole meaty, you might want to leave some of the jackfruit pieces whole so they feel meatier instead of shreding it. Does this make sence?
Ohhhh goood! I'm glad, I just always ate it without so I'm used to it. But mannnnnn I made an Uhhhmazinggggg pozole verde, that I added a lot more meat and it was good! I'm a believer of a the meat pozole! I cannot wait to share this recipe with you guys. I do try to respond fast to you guys, but for some reason I dont always get the notifications on you tube. If you ever need to reach me fast, I respond to my msgs a lot faster on Instagram. Yes, great question! Yes use everything, let me tell you, I used to toss it, but then i felt like i was left with soooo little of it left. Once i started doing this method i realized that those lart are my favorite part, especially the hard part because once boiled it's no longer hard and it's actually very meaty👌🏼👌🏼 and all the pieces are neutral in flavor. And now there is No waste😘 Let me know how you like it when you make it🙏🏼
Yassssssss👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I'm so glad love! Spread the love, Please Share the video🙌🏼 (remember there is people out there eating Jackfruit straight from the can😟) Much loveee🤗😘😘
the worst mistake I made when using jackfruit for the first time was using RIPE jackfruit 💀 my al pastor tacos were sweet and cutting the ripe fruit is STICKY. actual freaking glue.
Hii You can find canned jackfruit almost anywhere now, the best and most affordable place to get it is at your local Asian store. You can also find them on Amazon ;)
Hi Jan👋🏼 I do use every part of the jackfruit, and because I boil it the texture of the tip or as the pointy end as you call it☺️ is soft but Meaty, which I personally Love. Try this method and see for yourself. Much Love, Sahar
Hey girly, this was super informative! Thank you! What would you do differently if it was canned in water instead of brine? Would you still boil it? 💚🌎💚
Hi Hiii Thank you so much. I would still do the same at least once, because it would still pick up the canned foods flavor I think, I havent tried it but. But I think it would still remove some of the flavors and we would get a neutral product. Let me know how it comes it for you when you do it.
Thank you for this video! Just tried it today but for some reason my jackfruit turned purple, any idea why? I boiled it for 2h but it still smells very briney... I even changed the water 3 times and rinsed the jackfruit but the water was still bright pink every time :(
Hi Celeste that can happen and that is perfectly fine. That happened most of the time when I make mine, when it's out the water sometimes it changes sometimes it stays that color, it's fine to consume. It's more like a grayish shade. Dont get discouraged
Oh mine did that too the last time I cooked it. Funny thing is, is that the first time I cooked jackfruit it didn't do that. Wonder if its just different brands and their canning process that does that?
So, I tried this and my jack fruit came out pretty mushy and lost its meaty consistency. Did I do something wrong? I used canned jackfruit from Trader Joes.
Hi Veronica, I say it depends what you are using your Jackfruit for, if you are going to make a savory dish. Like tacos or soups etc.. you want to use young green Jackfruit, in the brine. If you are making desserts I would say the ripe one in syrup would work best. Hope this helps 🤗😘
Hey love I just saw this! Yes that happens' it's the sap coming off the jackfruit, any oil will take it off🙏🏼💕💕 If you ever wanna reach me faster msg me on Instagram @SaharBelle 💕😘😘

I am not vegan but just want to eat more plant based I guess, so I had roast (that was really jackfruit ) the texture was of roast for me but the after taste was off for me, and I am so glad I came across your video, keep it up
Same ima try it again after boiling
Love how versatile jackfruit is! Awesome vid girly!
Thank you! Yassss it's super Versatile 👌🏼
I'VE HAD THE JACKFRUIT, PULLED PORK AND IT WAS DELICIOUS. 😌😌
Glad to hear you enjoyed it☺️💖
Thank you for the great explanation!
Thank you for this video the first time I made it, it was disgusting! After I did this tasted so much better!
🙏🏼🙏🏼💕💞
Peace and Blessings! Cool tips, thank you!
My favorite part is the straw. Would be a lot easier just to vacuum seal. Thank you for the tutorial.
Amazing! Thank you. I will try this.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💕😘
I just did this and it works!!! The only thing I did differently is that I shredded the jackfruit before I boiled it the first time...so it got more “gunk” out. What I like is that boiling got rid of all that stickiness that the jackfruit usually has. I did 4 cans just to try it out. I will be doing more next time. Oh - I also used a potato ricer to squeeze the water out at the end. Worked like a charm! 2 hours of boiling and it completely took away the taste and smell of the green jackfruit. Thank you!!!
You're very welcome! I'm so glad you gave it a try.🙏🏼🙏🏼💕
You know what I've been doing this last years or so, its I put my jack or tvp or whatever needs to be rung out in a kitchen towel and I wrap them in there and turn and turn and squeezes the liquid out, and I have the most dry product, perfect and ready to use 💯
I love the idea of using a potato ricer. I will have to try that. 😊
I always do a boiling water rinse for mine but from your video I see it's good to do a little more; thanks! I think the squeezing the water out part might be unnecessary though because excess water can evaporate while cooking. Oh and nice trick with the straw for cheaper way to vacuum seal stuff!
Thank you, yesss. I love that trick, I'm glad you found it useful 🤗😘
Thank you so much for this video! It was really helpful. Just finished prepping my jackfruit 😊🙌🏼
Yassss🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 thank you loveee I'm glad. Also I wanna say that I've been told that if you dont do that many cans you can half the time
I just drain jackfruit before cooking and it always tastes great, but then again I always make jackfruit recipes where it simmers in a sauce.
Do you think that using a nut milk bag to remove the excess water would be easier?
Ha! Yes totally! I got sooooo many messages saying that, I'm like okay yall are way smarter than I am lol🙏🏼💖
I have fresh jackfruit that took over an hour to cut and remove seed...preparing it was stringy.
Can you do a video from start to finish....should I boil it!
Hii
Is the jackfruit ripe? If it is i would just enjoy it ripe, i wouldnt waste the goodness or provides dresh by cooking it. And yessss it can take some timw to cut ot up😄😄
Thank you for this great video.
I found a Jamaican market ten minutes from my house, but my white ass was about to eat from the can :P thank you for this video
😄😄😄😄😄😄 I'm glad we found you before you committed the crime!
hahahahaha hilarious
Lmaooo, oh no. You woulda been mad. I'm not Caribbean or White, but I just asked in the store when I saw someone purchase 'scuse me... how are you prepping that?'
Such a great video! I am currently doing this right now lol! I will be making your red pazole this weekend 😁
When you say Brine, is that the salty water they add to the can? I've made a few things with Jackfruit but it always tastes kind of salty vinegar taste. I hate that! I hope this gets rid of that taste. Gonna try it. Thanks
Great idea . Do you need to use this procedure if the Jackfruit is tinned in water ?
She said yes. It gets rid of the can taste
Thank you for the awesome video. Can’t wait to start cooking with jack fruit. Have you cooked with fresh jack fruit? If so, how would you prepare it? Would you still boil it before storing in the freezer? My local grocery store is selling fresh whole jack fruit. Thanks😋
Hiii,
I have cooked it once, this was before I knew better heheh
I say eat ripe sweet Jackfruit as a delicious healthy fruit.
@@nataleeming5233 niceeeeee....can you tell me how to boil the seeds to eat? That's what I wanna do
@@injuryadvocates7602 once the seeds are removed from the flesh, there may be another membrane on it. you can spend the time to remove it or if you prefer to leave it on. set water to boil. wash the seeds with plain water. once water is rolling, add salt and pepper to taste. boil seeds until tender.
Also, do you know if there is any nutritional value in the jackfruit after two hours of boiling? thank you
U can get dried jackfruit. No vinegar / metallic taste
Thank you Omgosh!!!!! 🙄😂😂👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 cause I said that was what I was gonna do next time but wasn’t sure if that was the right thing to do.. so thank you girl! 🤍
You're welcome Sarah😄😘💕

Thanks for the pro tip. I love it !😉
Thank youuu💗 😘😘🙏🏼
I know this video was long time ago lol but were did you get your colander? :)
Not sure 🤔 I think it was one of those kitchen gadget stores
Does boiling it this long leach much of the potassium and magnesium?
Hi! Welcome to the Channel Love🤗🤗
You most definitely can marinate it💯
It depends on how it's going in the oven, the consistency of your marinade as well
So you keep the seeds? Do they affect the taste if you’re making bbq? Thanks
HI 👋🏼 Cjay
Yes you can keep the seeds, they dont affect the taste, also by following this particular method it completely gives the Jackfruit a neutral taste. 😉
Thanks. I just finished your method for some ‘bbq.’ It worked. Thank you.
So glad 😊
Also, keep in mind that of you're not doing ad much Jackfruit as me( since I'm batching) you can cut the time down of the process.
@@saharbelle Good to know. Thanks
A nut milk bag is very helpful with the squeezing process.
Yes for sure
Thank you!
This was so helpful. Doing this now to a giant jackfruit I just peeled.
I'm glad it was love🙏🏼
I hope it was an unripe green jack🙏🏼
I used a fresh jackfruit too. It was my first time so I didn’t know to get It unripe. Lesson learned. Came out too sweet for me but I will try again. Maybe with the can type next time.
Ohhhh noooo lol!
Definitely green unripe Jackfruit for meat.
And eat the ripe one freshhhh😍
Loves it ❤️❤️❤️ more please ❤️
Thank you for this informative video. Can you do this to hearts of palms? The hearts of palms seems too soft and breaks apart very easily.
Hi, who spotted at 5:55 the book of curses behind the pot? Can you explain Sahar??
Hi
What would you like an explanation on?
The recipe?
Why the book is there?
The curses themselves?
Or the exact placement of the curse book being behind the pot?
🤪
It's part of my Halloween decorations🧙♀️
Muahahahah
When u pulled the straw ... Was ur thumb covering the whole on ur side ?
My gurrlll, I did like you 2x boiled, then shredded after last boil. My fingers had a tacky feel to it like sap. But I pushed on. In Hawaii we have a dish called kalua pork and I wanted to mimic those flavors, just salt, little garlic and liquid smoke. I still have to tweak it a bit, but it tasted better the next day. I think 3x boiling would have been perfect for this recipe. But thanks for showing me the way. Love all your videos. Keep it going. All love to you.
You're very welcome! Perhaps it needs more water. I have not had that happen, but it could most likely be lack of water. And the temperature.
That dish by the way sounds bomb! I'd like to try it!
@@saharbelle yes, I will try that the next time. Thanks for the advice.
You're very welcome love. Happy Eating!🤗🤗🤗😘😘
Ahhhhh kaluaaaaa pork was one of the only pork dishes I enjoyed !!! Good call thank you ^_^ and ty to the jackfruit gods !!!! Lol
I bet you can make a really delicious tuna sandwich.
this was awesome
Thank you lovely 💗
ressure cooker can speed up the process.
Also I am boiling my green jackfruit right now . I didn't precut as I kind of want to make nuggets .
But the green jackfruit is turning grey/purplish .... Any advice ... 🙏🏼
Do you remove the core? Can that be eaten as well?
Hi Raquel
No I do not remove it, I dont remove anythingggg except that liquid lol
The core gets a nice and meaty bite when cooked. I leave the core and seeds always.
Thank you very informative!!
You're awesome! Thank you!
Awe You're Awesome!!
Thank you for your love and support 🙏🏼💕
Is jackfruit supposed to have softness, almost like a gush? I just tried to make it for the first time and it was not it. It’s like I didn’t have all the water out. Here’s what I did, feel free to comment my mistake because I really want this to work for me 😭
1. Took it out the can, rinsed quickly and pulled it apart.
2. Let it soak to try to get the brine flavor out.
3. strained it
4. Seasoned it
5. Cooked on stove top for about 10 min to dry to get the excess water out (fail)
5. Put it in the stove for about 20 min
I still didn’t like the texture, it wasn’t meat. I can’t explain it, it was a soft gush 😩
Update! My dumb stupid ass made the comment before completely watching the video, still feel free to comment with YOUR “meaty” tips
😂😂😂😂 I was gonna say, did you watch the video??🤪🤪
Okay so Give this a try again Step by Step and get back to me. I really want thos to work for you too! Its soooo good. Life Changinnn
@@mookieynr did it come out better when you followed the steps in the video? I'm going to try jackfruit for the first time, and I'm picky about texture.
Can you show us your favorite way to prepare jackfruit. Love the info!
Thank you! For sure. I have My Tinga recipe up you will love this recipe
Can you do this process in an InstantPot to reduce some of the time involved?
Yes
Do you know how to make fresh jackfruit is there a video for this?.
Hello MysticHealing🙏🏼💖
I don't have a video on this, but fresh ripe Jackfruit is very sweet and highly highly nutrient dense, when whe use it for a meat substitute we use it green it has more of a meatier texture and the flavor and sweetness has not developed, the only thing is, not quite sure if it's easy to cut up the unripe Jackfruit lol
Hope this helps🙏🏼😘✨️
What about the core and seeds of each piece of jackfruit? Does the two hours of boiling soften them enough to eat?
Yes that right. The core is the only one that is more tough but with the boiling it softens, it's my favorite part. So meaty
By boiling so many times and rinsing don't we lose the nutrients from Jack fruit?
Hey Malika😘
Nah boo, like don't expect much nutrients from canned food.
Hope this helps
Sending you love🌬💞
About what level do you boil the jackfruit on? Looks like medium, or medium low? And thank you so much for the video I am new to cooking and appreciate all the inspiration to keep at it and keep trying.
I do it on high because it's a huge pot, but you just want them to boil.
@@saharbelle thank you so much!!!
You're very welcome lovie💕
Has the vitamin content been completely destroyed?
This video is super informative and helpful ty!
I'm glad you found it helpful🙏🏼 you're very welcome lovely 💗💞😘
How do you use the meat to cook when it's in this form, all mashed up?
Do we still need to prepare if it comes in water and not brine ?
Hi Paula🖐🏼 I still do it because when food is in Cans, it still picks up the tin scent and flavor😖
I know I'm a year late, but would it be the same amount of boil time if its just for 1-2 cans?
Hi Sabrina🤗
From what I've heard from some of the Channel fam is that it is not, makes sence, I would do it for half the time.
Hi Aida
The process that I show you above it is of one hour boiling then you rinse off and then you boil again for another hour. now I'm doing a big batch of cans of jackfruit. from what I've read in the comments if you do less cans you can boil that for a lesser time for example if you did 1 or 2 cans then boil them for 30 minutes. bring your water up to a boil, boil it for 30 minutes, when the 30 minutes are up throw that water out a and boil that again for another 30 minutes when that's done put it in a nut bag and just squeeze all the water out and then you have dried jackfruit ready to use with whatever you want it I hope that helps.
I am doing this now. But the water is still briney on the second boil. Do i need to boil it a third time?
Hi Becca,
Are you filling step by step as I did Olin the video?
The water should not be briney at all.
Let's see, does your pot have enough water so the Jackfruit can have room to eliminate in the water and not basically boil in briney water? I hope this makes sence. Msg me on Instagram and I'll give you a call😘
I have followed your video step by step and I boiled it in a lot of water both times. And both times the water ended up very briney.
@@saharbelle I did taste it after the second boil to make sure. I will boil it once more and comment on if it worked.
I just tried calling you to help you love.
Is there any food value left in the jack fruit?
Hi Kerry🙏🏼✨️
Typically, while eating canned goods, there isn't much nutritional value. In fact, it's best to stay away from as much tinned food as possible. In this case, the prep is to get rid of the tin taste and chems that may be in the food. It's not perfect but it's a treat. Hope this helps.
Sending much love🙏🏼💖💫
Love your recipes
My jackfruit turned gray when I boiled it, is that normal or was my canned jackfruit too old
No it's totally normal that happens every time, everyone asks this same question. As soon as you boil it it changes in color, keep in mind that the Jackfruit if it is not in Brine and although in water it has preservatives that are in there.
So it all adds to the change. Do not worry about the change of color. Mine in the video is the same.
Do we keep the jackfruit seeds or do we throw them out?
Keep them! Its more meat and they soften
Hi Sahar! Quick question, I just prepared this and I was wondering if you let the jackfruit sit after you drain it with your hand before you shred it to package it up? Yours looked really light in color and super dry
Hi Ronnie
If I'm understanding your question right, you want to know if I let it sit out after I squeeze all the water out of the jackfruit?
Sahar Belle You read my mind! That’s what I did :)
Thanks so much for the quick response 💕
Ohhhh goood! I'm glad, I just always ate it without so I'm used to it. But mannnnnn I made an Uhhhmazinggggg pozole verde, that I added a lot more meat and it was good! I'm a believer of a the meat pozole! I cannot wait to share this recipe with you guys.

WOW NOW I KNOW I WONDER WHY SOME COMPANY DOES NOT DO ALL THIS FOR US AND SELL IT IN FROZEN BAGS ?
Wouldn't that be nice! Lol but usually know it you batch it it's easy as pie👌🏼
Do you use the entire part? Seeds and tough parts at the bottom ?
Yes, great question! Yes use everything, let me tell you, I used to toss it, but then i felt like i was left with soooo little of it left. Once i started doing this method i realized that those lart are my favorite part, especially the hard part because once boiled it's no longer hard and it's actually very meaty👌🏼👌🏼 and all the pieces are neutral in flavor.
And now there is No waste😘
Let me know how you like it when you make it🙏🏼

Where do u usually purchase this product
Hii You can find canned jackfruit almost anywhere now, the best and most affordable place to get it is at your local Asian store. You can also find them on Amazon ;)
A lot of Asian stores have it just call and ask
Do you use every part of the jackfruit? The pointy end doesn't taste very good texture wise.

I do use every part of the jackfruit, and because I boil it the texture of the tip or as the pointy end as you call it☺️ is soft but Meaty, which I personally Love.
Try this method and see for yourself.

Hey girly, this was super informative! Thank you! What would you do differently if it was canned in water instead of brine? Would you still boil it?

Hi Hiii
Thank you so much.

I even changed the water 3 times and rinsed the jackfruit but the water was still bright pink every time :(
This just happened to me I put 2 cans boiling for 30 mins before I noticed the purple color
Justine yes! You nailed it, that has a huge impact💯💯
So, I tried this and my jack fruit came out pretty mushy and lost its meaty consistency. Did I do something wrong? I used canned jackfruit from Trader Joes.
Try dehydrating after this process then rehydrating. It’ll give it great texture, I hate the mushy taste too lol.
Can I use jackfruit in a syrup ? Or brine is better ??
Hi Veronica, I say it depends what you are using your Jackfruit for, if you are going to make a savory dish. Like tacos or soups etc.. you want to use young green Jackfruit, in the brine. If you are making desserts I would say the ripe one in syrup would work best.
Hope this helps 🤗😘
This will be my first time ever using jackfruit.
I just realized my jackfruit says “young jackfruit” does that make a difference? 😬
Yes! Young jackfruit is green Jackfruit meaning not sweet or canned in syrup.
