Mishcon in conversation with Melanie C

Melanie C, aka Sporty Spice, joined us in conversation at the Academy to talk about her book Who I Am. Told in her own words, the book is a full and honest account of what life was really like in The Spice Girls, one of the biggest music acts of all time.
The Spice Girls' 1996 debut single ‘Wannabe’ topped the charts in 37 countries and the group's debut album ’Spice’ went on to sell more than 31 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling album by a female group. They went on to sell more than 85 million records.
As a solo artist, Melanie has achieved over 3 million album sales, two Number 1 singles and six Top 10 singles, including the iconic hits ‘I Turn To You’ and ‘Never be the Same Again’. In recent years, Melanie has performed at Pride parades all over the world with the LGBTQ+ club collective Sink the Pink - including taking the stage in Times Square, New York for World Pride’s closing party in 2019.

People around the world really love the Spice Girls. So first of all, thank you I felt so emotional wth the intro speech. This guy was so sincere & explained perfectly why the Spice Girls where so meaningful. I am from Mexico & love their music so yeees they are huge!!!! I bet there's People from Brazil to Japan, still in love & celebrating 26 years now.
MELANIE C really captured me since the first time I listened to her voice.
I can't explain it, but I could match her voice with her image (Spice album photoshoot) & it amazes me, you can listened to her in the Spices cast singing "I'm so excited" she had an amazing style, even before the Spice Girls.
Since then she has been my fave Spice girl, then my fave solo artist & she has been part of my life. And yeees I loved the book, amazing interview.

Such a beautifully genuine and encapsulating interview. I don't normally comment but feel all involved in this interview really nailed it.. the team brought the best and the most at ease I've seen Melanie C. She conveyed her story, as always, with poise, passion and integrity. Such a fascinating, inspiring and self aware icon! I particularly was moved with the introduction as I feel he spoke for many of the fans, (me included) in his explanation of his personal experience of the Impact of the Spice Girls and why they resonated and it was touching to see his heartfelt vulnerability in doing so.

Thanks for this. Been a fan of Melanie C since the Spice Girls. I remember the group impact as well. One thing I love about this is she's not only Sporty Spice, but also Melanie C. Each of her solo albums are amazing. As someone from the stateside, I've only grown to love her work as a member of the Spice Girls and even more so as the solo artist she is. That also include her various cover songs as well. May she have continued success. It's been 25 years since it began and it will be another 25 years to let all of them know (Melanie C, Melanie B, Victoria Beckman, Geri Horner, Emma Bunton) they still matter. ❤❤✌✌✌✌✌
