I like the way you put more detail into your tutorials than most. So well that even the novice can understand the first time they see it. Many don't spend the extra time it takes like you do. God bless my friend.
Well Good Morning Sir I've been learning how to snare canines from our mutual friend her in MN Eric D. He's my neighbor and we went to the BWCA last year to fish Brook Trout. I couldn't remember exactly how to "Load" a snare after Eric had showed me once or twice. So he told me to watching this video. It helped immensely. I loaded mine while in the field. Now after watching you, I've determined it's best to load them before heading out. Thanks for the guidance. I subscribed so I can continue to learn from Eric and The Meat Trapper. Thank You Brian

Great video, Tim! Quality cable is key to effective loading. Newt Sterling explained to me that if a cable is too straight or if you hold a cable and it doesn't naturally droop down (trying my best to explain through txt lol) it's a bad cable and I had a hell of a time trying to figure that out cause loading was not working! I got cable from another dealer and much happier! I actually wear buffalo hide gloves and load my snares with my thumb after their built. Southern snares looks like high quality and I'll have to check them out :)
Had to laugh at my first attempt to load a snare. Like you said, I cork-screwed that cable and then compounded the problem by trying to correct it (more than once). The end result was almost comical. You’re sure to laugh if I sent you a picture. Fortunately, I was more successful with subsequent snares. At least they’re usable. Thanks for the excellent lessons.
Great video. We just ordered snares from southern snares to catch the coyotes that killed his dog. As soon as we get them I am going to show him your videos. I have my own personal spot to catch animals at since I am helping him with his coyote problem.
Thanks brother for the great information I'm going to try it this was instead of trying to load it after it's made. I think this will help me out allot. Awesome video
Good video I just sent a order in to southern snares this evening figured I’d get some of my early this year what size of barrel swivel would you use on a coyote I’m gonna try the barrel swivels this year I just ordered a couple sizes just a dozen each no 9 no 12 and what size on beaver or use the same?
6/0 (Sold as #6 by trap suppliers for some reason) is more than plenty for beavers, etc. It has a 600 lb rating. 8/0 has a 900 lb working load rating. 9/0 (1000 lb) is my standard hog snare swivel, and 12/0 is reserved for the largest snares, 7/64 and 1/8 snares. It has a 1500 lb working limit.
Nice video again.. I wish u could do another video on snare building Build one in a slim lock and in mini pro lock. Then show step by step on loading them. I can build one right then next one l the lock twisted up. I went from sure lock to slim lock now to mini pro lock. Thanks.
@@Meattrapper thank you for your reply! I met Newt 2011. Had him hear to check for turtles and help me with some snaring education. We can't use them here in NC on land. Only water. I was wondering, is Newt still living? I've lost my contact info for him.
Personally I use 3/32" diameter 1x19 twist cable. It will hold most hogs. On my recent trip to Arkansas, we had two hogs that broke 1/8" 1x19 cable that had a breaking strength of 2,000 pounds. Incredible power, but the 3/32" 1x19 will hold 99 percent of the hogs you will catch. Good luck!
Thank you. Recently got back into RUclips. Glad to find your channel again. A question, p!ease... What is your opinion of spring snares? I have several thoughts on keeping your snared rabbits, etc. safe from predatory scavengers.
I’m new to trapping, I started in December of 2022. Would you mind providing the contact information of the person that you mentioned that makes snares? I would like to call him and converse with him about making snares.. Thank You sir.. Semper-Fi
Jeff A That is a brand new lock that Newt Sterling sent me to test. He calls it his Master Lock. It is available on his website, snareone.com. It is extremely fast, even on rough 7x7 cable, but it is not aggressive. It's designed to be very fast and useable where relaxing locks are required.
Thought that was Newts lock, but when you said all components came from S.S., I thought they may have started offering something similar. It’s a great lock, and I really like them. Non polished stainless is what more locks should be made out of. Thanks for clarifying
Yes, they do - you can call Brian directly at 912-288-6542 and tell him what you are interested in and he'll make what you want. He's happy to talk snaring. Tell him MeatTrapper sent ya and he'll take care of you. Hope you and the bees are well.

I ordered snares from Southern Snares a few days ago and they arrived today....just before I watched your video! My first set of snares.

Learning from every video from you thank you!
Greetings from Germany to everyone 🧄🤬🌶🥵🍀
You make loading look easy. I've messed up a lot of cable while learning, and I still have a lot to learn. Thanks for the video!
Just keep practicing - it's just muscle memory and practice. Once it clicks it's like riding a bike.
Thank you for this information I really had no idea about loading a snare till now very well explained
great video made it look simpler than it is! little practice....perfect thank you
Great content sir... you are a natural teacher.
Thanks for the info and the prompt response. Didn’t expect that. Much respect to you. Thanks again.
Awsome technique Mr meat trapper. Thank you
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing these tips, it is easier to see it done on video.

Newt knows his stuff for sure. Quality cable is the foundation - if your cable sucks then nothing will work right.
Thanks for sharing your information good job on all your videos 👍

Thank you man 🌷🥀 been really getting into this stuff
Good information about snares
Thanks Tim , the captain plans on learning this skill
He needs to - I bet there's lots of cable on a boat!!
Thanks brother for the great information

Awesome video
another great video !
I have no trapper wire or any of those restraint holder things bc I just got restraints made for me.

I use the #9 barrel swivels on beaver. For anything on land, I'd move up to a #12 to be safe. A yote can stretch that 9 out good.

Is stainless fishing leader any good for small snares?? Thanks
Very informative, thanks.

Does a support wire need to be non rusty to use?
I'm just starting to study them. I like your channel. Thanks
No the wire just has to hold the snare steady.
@@Meattrapper thank you for your reply!

What cable do you suggest for hogs in central Florida? I see that you use different cables. Thanks. Like the info. I also sub your channel.

Writing from New Zealand. Have you tried to snare Canadian geese before?
I have snared them by accident in a marsh while snaring raccoons. In my experience, they die quickly when snared.

Yes, they do - you can call Brian directly at 912-288-6542 and tell him what you are interested in and he'll make what you want. He's happy to talk snaring. Tell him MeatTrapper sent ya and he'll take care of you. Hope you and the bees are well.

If you're hunting, much less poaching, why would you EVER put a breakaway in your system?
