This song is more of an Anthem for us country folk.

Country is a way of life. I am a 67 yr old lady. I plow my garden, can, fish and target practice with several different guns and have my own cross bow. There are coyotes, snakes and bobcats here. I no longer hunt thanks to arthritis, but I was raised hunting with my Dad. Run many a trot line when younger. We (me, my husband, grown son, dil, and 2 grandsons) have 4 wheel drives and live back in the woods on a mountain. The song may be old, our way of living has been around a very long time. But, very few things in the "country" have changed since the song was written. As far as country folk go, its pretty close to how it is.

He's not wrong. I learned a lot growing up. Not a country boy, I am a girl, but I can hunt, fish, can, garden, bake, cook, get sugar from trees and honey from bees. Can sew, crochet, knit, and even spin yarn to do it with. I can shot a gun or a bow. I am actually amazed how much I learned growing up country. We wouldn't survive, we would thrive if we had to.

That's one thing that the song is about. You can have all the money you ever wanted, but when "society BLOWS UP" that pile of money won't help you a damn bit. You'll die scrabbling for a crust of bread in an alley, but people in the country who can hunt, fish, garden, and protect themselves, will do just fine. They will help their neighbor too.

I was born in the southern appalachian mountains in the early 60s. I grew up eating what I killed. I know which plants you can eat, which will kill you, which will heal you. I'm about as country as you can get, but have spent a lot of time in the big cities. Both uptown and downtown. I'm as comfortable on 5th ave as I am in hells kitchen. When you can walk in both worlds you can glean from both what you need.

He lives everything he says in his songs and his daddy was the biggest legendary rockabilly country legendary Hank Williams Sr he die at age 29 years old in 1953 in back of seat of his Cadillac heart failure caused by the combination of alcohol, morphine and chloral hydrate. And Hank Williams Jr fall off the Montana mountain 500 hundred feet down stop going down the mountain when he hit head first in to a big rock and there wasn't nothing left of his face it all was torn off with his brain hanging out he about died on that mountain..

Hank Jr is a famous entertainer but in his private life he runs a big ranch in Montana & he is big into the hunting & fishing world. Infact there is movie about him, but the dark glasses & beard cover scars from him falling 500ft down the side of mountain on his ranch. He had 8 facial reconstruction surgurys. The doctors said he should not have lived with the amount of blood loss & trauma to the head. He had brain matter coming out of his skull.

Old country music is Hank Williams, Sr, country music now is new country, Hank William, Jr music is considered "pop" country.
Song is not putting down city life. Just we can do everything we need without "modern" city conveniences. We always "look out" for our friends. And, we welcome everyone and treat them like family. Don't let the accent fool you, we are very intelligent folks.

Hillbilly is a term of endearment. I had a good buddy from Louisianna - he was a crazy cajun? See? same thing. But he WAS a crazy Cajun? lol. Everytime we went out

One time, down in Houston in the '80s, he had an old '56 Chevy PU with a 454. We got stuck in traffick in downtown. He decided to go on the sidewalk?
I swear to God, 60 MPH? People were jumping out of the way? Women in dresses, men in suits and ties. We made it back to work on time, lol. Not a nice
painted up Chevy, an old dentend, faded red Chevy. Not like anyone could see it or call the cops? lol. One of my fav memories of all times? It was FUN?

He’s saying if things get bad where there’s no food at the grocery store, country folks will survive because we know how to live off the land to get food by fishing, hunting and growing our own food and canning it. Majority of city folks wouldn’t survive as they don’t have the skills to know how to hunt, trap, gut and skin animals and plant, grow and preserve food. Plus country folk look out for one another.

"Redneck" is a term that came from poor white folks living in a small area of England that moved to America and established much of the slang of the south-eastern states. They also said things like "cracker", "aks" (instead of "ask") and "chitlins" long before they migrated here.

That's funny I heard redneck came from the coal mines of West Virginia and Pennsylvania and Appalachians. The men would wear red bandanas on their necks all the time. There was a small war with coworkers on one side and I do believe National Guard because there was big fights going on and the National Guard had to step in to keep people from killing each other. They called the miners rednecks because of their bandanas colored red. Check it out it's in American history

Powerful mini movie. Cool song. And, as a whole, country folks don't want to promote violence, so they don't talk about guns too much.

You assumed wrong that you can't have business instincts and skills that include everything from fixing Machinery to raising livestock to gardening I know people who owned businesses big businesses like excavating companies or concrete businesses or various other skills that they use to implement and be entrepreneurs and build business and live in the country. They do both very successfully. Most of them have bigger families. Good wives that hold down the fort while the man is away at work. He will have a couple sons four girls and they will work on the farm as they are raised. And that's the way you implement business and Country both. You couldn't get me to live in a city if you paid me. Just my opinion

The country people are a whole culture on their own and there will always be guns whenever you live in the country on a farm or anywhere you always have to have your guns you have predators and predators do include people and whenever you talk about mountain people like he's talking about you do not the last thing you do is go on somebody's property Uninvited or just show up because you may receive a bullet if you do this is real life I was raised like that this is real life country people do stick together but there is rules and those rules are taught at a very young age and it's called manners and I know you don't understand that because you're a kid and you were not from the culture but these people will be the people that have something happens in America that you going to want these people in your corner because that's how you will survive

Country people are kind of they always deal with just their own people all right a man's word is a man's word and he will keep that word and if he doesn't he could be punished in several different ways they do believe in shutting you if you know that way it's like Amish but they are stand-up people and they believe in this country to their dying day and will give their life for this country you have families that have been on the mountain for a long long time you know I mean hundreds and hundreds of years and that's where they stay because that's where they want to be now business wise you have farmers some country people a lot of country people Farm or they raise cattle and things like that and they do they have to teach themselves about business and are they were taught by their parents about the business and they have certain people they sell to I mean it's all very introverted you know but once they're your friend they'll always be your friend and there's just no they don't care what anybody says about you or does to you know about to you or anything else they are always going to stand up behind you and be your friend and a lot of people are a lot of families marry families and they're in like that and that's the way it stays and they prefer it like that they don't prefer to really have that much contact with the outside world they do I mean they go to grain stores and they you know go to you know like Home Depot and stuff I mean I'm not saying that they don't and they do go to store for whatever they can't raise or whatever they can't Garden like flour maybe some sugar and stuff like that they don't buy too much at the store because they don't need to you know so it's a very nice way to live it's a very hard-working way to live but at the end of the day you know that you can survive anything you can you raise your own beef you raise your own garden so you know just kind of a heads up for you there

  • @sandramorefieldblankenship5012
