She was my old boat. I spent many hours during the middle of the night in that helmsmans chair trying to stay alert and on course. Good times on Sad Rock in the FNQ Navy 🍺
One of the prettiest FAC I know about. Always hoped to win the lottery so I could buy one when they were decomissioned! Great to see you have saved a few!!!! A "COOL little ship.
These volunteers at our Maritime Museum have done a magnificent job and present the ship in a very interesting and informative manner, as you can see in the video. This project is a credit to them. Shane Rutherford LS MTP3, HMAS Gladstone 1987.
Wow! Great work gents, she looks in great nick. I served on Freemantle's for 10 year's and was part of the decommissioning crew on HMAS Townsville. .......... good times!
Enjoyed the vid. I served on HMAS Gawler, FCPB 212. Some of the best years of my life. I knew the crew of Gladstone, every boat had it's nickname, Gladstone's was Sad Rock. Next time I visit my home town of Bundaberg, I might have to do a day trip up to Gladstone and have a look.
Great vid great memories . Ex whyalla sailor .just wondering when you mentioned armenments you didnt mention the 81 mm morter on the quaterdeck, or did they eventually remove them ?
Correction there were 4 senior sailors 3 petty officer and 1 CPO who was the Charge Engineer. Gladstone was the last ship I served on and I actually paid off on her. She certainly looks well loved and is really great to see . Last time I seen Townsville she was looking very unloved. There are actually 3 left the Fremantle is in Sydney at Darling harbour. Cheers
Very interesting and I would like to know more as I have a built 1.1 Mtr. radio control model of Geraldton that I sail on a lake in Maidstone, Kent, UK. Did not realise it had been preserved until today. Carry on the great work.
when Aware P91 was in the river here in rockhampton, i got the chance to look her over....got to know her intimately having helped put her on the slipway at nerimbera to redo the anti foul and replace a bent prop shaft.....she sadly met her fate in bundy after some morons from melbourne bought her and modified her beyond recognition......i also spent time on Ton class HMAS Curlew M1121.....she is on dry land now at margate marina in tassie awaiting her fate too
