Ferrari can't be trusted

  • Ferrari are going into the 2024 F1 Season with a bit of a question mark over them. Ferrari are one of the most famous and decorated F1 Teams to ever race in the sport, but why haven't they been able to compete for a world championship for so long? Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are two of the best drivers on the grid, so what is holding them back? Will the terrible strategy calls continue into the 2024 season? Enjoy!

Ferrari is a supercar, but the name means even more. Before, owning a Lamborghini and Ferrari were equal, Lamborghini were actually more attractive. But now Lamborghini are almost too mainstream and don't have the same value anymore. I can ask a random person what's a Lamborghini and they will say it's the crazy car that one celebrity has. If you ask a random person what's a Ferrari they will say it's an expensive, prestigious, race car. Regardless about how much they know about cars, everyone knows Ferrari and what it represents.
Even just saying that you own a car. Saying I own a Lamborghini, or McLaren, or AMG, it doesn't mean much to most people, it's just a car to them. But if you say I own a Ferrari, it has a whole other meaning. It doesn't even matter what model you have, just saying you own a Ferrari us a massive thing.
And this is coming from someone who used to not like Ferrari road cars.

I'm new to the sport, and part of what brought me here was the allure of Ferrari laying it all on the line in F1. What makes it more alluring is the fact that they're not dominant. I want to see Leclerc win a championship as much as any other fan, but it makes it exciting that they're going to have to work for it to take it from Red Bull

I think Charles can deliver a championship win if only Ferrari can pull their finger out and give him a car and a team that can instead of the cannot. In 2022 Charles was doing great until Ferrari started to implode and then to make things worse the rules changed for car ride height.

You said it perfectly. 2022 before Imola was one of the best times of my life. My favorite constructor and driver were winning even before France I thought they could do it. But since then the depression of Ferrari’s 2020 kicked back in. Ferrari will always be my favorite and so will Charles. Nothing will change that, it’s just sad I’ve aligned myself with a boat that’s constantly taking on water. And can’t get the easiest/ cheapest thing right strategy.
And yes it is easy to get it right as almost every race we scream to pit a lap earlier or this or that which would’ve won them the race or gotten a better position.

I've never seen this comparison made online before.
I grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s as a Man Utd & Ferrari fan. Times were good for us supporters and I think it blighted our view of what can or should be.
Since then the 2 teams have fallen off massively. There are obviously issues that run deeper than just the surface with both.
There's a lot of similarities in what has happened with both.
Both supporters are always expecting next year to be the year that they finally get the glory again but it just never comes.
Just as with united I think there needs to be a huge clear out at Maranello. People who are only just performing well enough are only good enough for team like modern Ferrari and not the Ferrari of old.
    The philosophy needs to change.

  • @LPChipi

I'm actually excited for Ferrari. I'm not a Ferrari fan per-se, but I do want them to do well. I do think they're the most important team in the sport, and seeing them struggle is kind of a downer. However, you can see their pedigree is still there. Only one win outside of RedBull this year? Ferrari. Only team to come even close to a championship fight with RedBull since the new regs? Ferrari.
The preliminary results of the new car seem to be good, based on the rumors, and Vasseur seems to be fixing a lot of the issues that Ferrari had, such as strategy and pit stops. It looks more tidy and organized every day and I actually think 2024 will be a positive year for them. Not sure about challenging RB, but I do think they'll be best of the rest.

Besides Mclaren, i think Ferrari is the only other team to probably challenge Redbull. If you start to think that after RedBull, they were the team with more poles and wins at 2023 we can conclude that in fact they still had the 2nd faster car last year. The problem was that the ferrari car was a tyre eater, and most of their poor performances on sundays were because of it. But as we saw going trough the end of the season, they were increasing it a lot. People forgets, but from the last two races, one they almost won (Las Vegas), and in the other they had far better pace than Mercedes and Mclaren (Abuh Dhabi). I don't believe they are gonna have a dominant era like on Schumacher time anymore. This things don't happen from nowhere, there's a lot of factors that made them that invencible machine. Nowadays, on a optimistic look, Ferrari most probably win one or another isolated title, as Mclaren and Renault did during the 00's.

I think that's basically the TLDR of it. How the heck is Ferrari having a hard time competing for a title when probably just about every employee and driver thinks it's an honor to work for them? Fun fact that the first F1 team I've heard about is FERRARI. Ferrari is literally the one thing almost everyone thinks about when they think of F1. Then you enter the sport and here they are being a bunch of fools every other week or so. I really want to see Ferrari succeed, but they probably won't get a title maybe for the next 3-4 years or so...probably longer if Ferrari decides to boot Fred.

Ferrari is a team with a legacy like no other. They have a responsibility to maintain the legacy that was created by Enzo Ferrari and add something to it. Instead, we see failures similar to those of Haas and others. For a team of that supposed budget, calibre, etc they just should not be making the mistakes they do,
We all want to see a Ferrari championship-winning year but whether or not that will happen anytime soon is something else.
Also, they have prime talent in both Charles and Carlos and consistently they abuse that with the hope of something better. It is sad to see the turn of events that we do. If they don't demonstrate that they are capable of winning very shortly, both may look at other options.
Ferrari has a hold on Charles that another team has and they are using that to their advantage. There is only so much one can take before, deciding that the Ferrari period of their career is unfortunately over.

I grew up to the title drought between Scheckter and Schumacher so seeing the win in 1999 (constructor) and 2000 (wdc and wcc) was the happy days. But lately ive been critical to the team, esp when Binotto was around... i mean Binotto was there from Toldt time and the Schumacher era, yet he didnt lean anything from that era. So his sacking was good news. Vasseur now, he did his best in 2023... ill give his tenure 5 years to rebuild and be competitive. The 2024 car, idk its full potential... 95% is new but that 5% is still Binottos concept so i have doubts... even if the car is dominant, ill cheer if Ferrari are leading after the Abu Dhabi GP 2024

The only difference between Ferrari and Williams is money, they are both shadows of their glorious past but Ferrari has a bigger group behind them than what Williams have. One big question I have is: why doesn't anybody talk about what Johm Elkann is doing for every sport team he controls? Juventus in Serie A are suffering the same fate Ferrari are suffering, let's talk about something extra-sport. Last news about Fiat is that they are inviting 2000 young engineers to leave the company (they can't just fire them because of the Italian law). It isn't just Ferrari, it's the whole group that puts money into Ferrari that doesn't seem to work.
Then there are Italian media (our media)... oh boy... it's the same every year. This time it's "the car is 7 10ths faster than the previous" as if it was big good news! Spoiler: every car should be faster than the previous and everyone will be at least 0.5s faster!
Ferrari's history and heritage is destroying the team because they live thinking of what was and not of what is now: Ferrari is a 3rd/4th spot team in terms of COMPETENCE, Red Bull, Mercedez and McLaren are way more competent than Ferrari (especially talking about the Board) and they have to acknowledge it if they really want to win something in the future.
This Ferrari has nothing to do even with the pre-2010 Ferrari, they are a different thing and they have to be humble enough to admit it, the sooner they admit it, they sooner they will start to win more than 4 races in a season.
    (By a sad Ferrari fan)

Of course it can't! We youngsters didn't live it, but before the Schumacher / Todt / Brawn era of domination, Ferrari went through a drought of 21 YEARS!
Half of them were still under the guide of The Old Man himself. And it's not like before 1979 Ferrari was a huge dominating force. They had to bring in Lauda and Forghieri to win those three titles in the 70s. And Lauda said it perfectly when he joined.
Before that the actual focus of the Scuderia was Endurance racing, where most of the money were spent to compete in the WSC.
The more you look at Ferrari, the more it has the aspect of a disfuctional team with a strong branding that guarantees the constant cash flow to keep it running.
If this was any other team it would've failed years ago.

The problem with Ferrari is the team's culture. The mentality of "we are Ferrari so that makes us automatically great" creates a severe lack of accountability and if they refuse to acknowledge their mistakes, they will never learn from them.

Ok but I don’t understand how can someone not put Ferrari and Mercedes on the same starting level going in 2024,McLaren is ahead due to copying McLaren Red Bull,( with McLaren’s modification) but the other two are on the same starting level and btw Mercedes pits were not excellent in 2023 (not even strategy although better than Ferrari one)

Mercedes were worse than Ferrari in terms of strategy, pit stops (7th, whils RB, Ferrari and Mclaren are 1,2 and 3 respectively) , driver relationship, R&D and taking advantage of their strong/RBs weak tracks. The only reason they got P2 was because Ferraris car was bad, and the team was still politicaly split over fred for the first 8/9 races. Ferrari started weak and finished strong, and have the best driver lineup by far, and a top 3 team principle (whos just fired the strategey bloke, forgotten his name).
Meanwhile, Mercedes car got worse (despite bringing double the amounts of upgrades), have a driver lineup who crashed into each other several times, and Russel crashed into way to many things and lost alot of his pace, and the pitstops were bad, the strategy was bad,
and toto is more intersted in calling horner smelly than fixing any of the teams issues, all whilst (over the last 2 seasons) they have lost their head of strategy in james vowles, a key engineer in mike elliot whos been shot, and just lost their performance director , loic serra, to Ferrari.
RB have the Checo Ballast, and Lando is a pushover and Oscar has no race pace (tho will improve)
Assuming a 2010 situation, where 3/4 cars are dead equal, Ferrari are the ones with the most of the building blocks in place

    Nah ... I just can't love Ferrari.
    - The number of F1 driver's careers they've ruined (Seb Vettel being the latest ... if you don't count Leclerc because of optimism, I guess)
    - The way they get more money than any other team
    - Them being the sole team that can veto any F1 rule change
    - The way they dictate how you can and cannot use your Ferrari if they allow you to buy one
    - The way they think the brand is bigger than the team (while it used to be the other way around when Enzo was alive when they sold cars to be able to race)
    - The way their team radio can confuse anyone, including their drivers, into a 24h coma.
    - Know-it-all strategy which never quite turns out right for 'm ...
I hope they do well this year but I doubt it ... too much entitlement.w

Ferrari have been declining since Jean Todt and Ross Brawn left from the team cause before 2009 they we're still a top class team they we're the team everyone loved and wanted for them to win the championship once 2009 came around that's when everything started went to shit. 2009 the team had a pretty bad season which people probobly didn't think much about it cause they have been used to Ferrari have dead seasons in the past and it was like okay they will climb back up again. 2010 they we're back fighting for a championship but lost and also made a terrible radio order to a certain driver which probobly lost them some fans. 2011 also quite dead season despite Alonso's win at British gp. 2012 terrible car that somehow managed to fight for the top in the hands of Fernando. 2013 showed strong signs at the start but somehow droped off. 2014 another season but it's due to V6 turbo hybrid engines which a lot of teams didn't get used to at first so it wasn't that bad. 2015 teams recovery fighting for the top positions again. 2016 the beginning of bad strategies and bad reliability. 2017 tried fighting for the title but lost. 2018 take 2 on fighting for the title fails again. 2019-2022 Binotto's bullshit. 2023 even under the hands of Frédéric Vasseur the team is still shit and will probobly be shit till the new regulations cause who knows maybe with 2026 regulations they might be one of teams to really fight for a championship.
