The Deco is my special sauce for bringing drums out in the mix, I use it in conjunction with an RE20 on my Tempest and it is a beautiful synergy of sound.
I love your videos, but i honestly didn’t pay much attention to this one… because I put it on in the background while I’m working from home and it was like having a buddy in the room with me noodling around making lovely musical sounds while muttering in a soothing voice about what he was doing. Maybe not how you intended for it to be experienced, but it definitely brought joy to my Monday afternoon. Thanks for that.
Deco has been on my radar for some weird magic on the mixer's FX send. My Elektron boxes already have nice quality delay, rev, and chorus. I've been hunting for something versitile and somewhat subtle, yet characterful and depth-inducing. I think this is it. I love the edition of "Tone" on the V2.
@@JorbLovesGear I would watch that. Also that second Nord Lead 2 video you mentioned wanting to do but not having an idea for when you were chatting with the Midlife Synthesist😉
Jorb I appreciate this video a lot. I've seen the strymon pedals advertised and read some positive reviews. I've never really understood really how they could work with synths. This is great much appreciated 👍
I use my PRO2 as a processor, it has 4 delays! Plenty of modulation, 4 LFOs with plenty of waveforms, many envelopes, CV, ping pong on the delays, tap tempo, and can quickly set ratios between each of the delays (double the delay-rate, dotted, 16th, etc). I don't know about series routing though, I'll have to look into that. It also has a sort-of tape saturation emulation in the "character" section. Still, between the stereo, the double tracker implementation, and the better tape emulation, this really still looks maybe worth getting anyway.
Deco is my sht I use it as a send effect for my hardware set up along with a Volante. I already have the Deco V1, and I’m probably gonna get a V2 after I’ve acquired the Moog Matriarch
Would love to see you mix a synth heavy song with the Deco Saperate note, would love to see them make a big format Deco with balanced in outs and more knobs
Barely halfway through the video and thinking wow I want a Dig now. Then I see everybody talking about the Deco and realize oh the second half of this video is gonna be good lol.
If you do build the pedalboard I just have 2 technical tips for you. 1) There are some digital pedals that do not sit well with some pedal power supplies. Before you commit them all to a board (possibly with psu underneath), you should place each pedal on top of the psu to make sure there is no interference when they are connected and in operation. The psu must have isolated outs. For example: I have an Ojai and a Mobius that must sit at opposite ends of my board. (Maybe because I route through the Mobius twice idk 🤷♂) I have only analog pedals on top of my psu (distortion/fuzz/comp) they don't suffer from the same sensitivity. Pick the pedals you want first, then find the psu that allows you to connect them all as you wish with zero extra introduced noise. Oh and 2) Running pedal patch cables next to the DC pedal power cables is irrelevant. It's only the AC that introduces noise. Can't wait to see how you route it all :D
@@JorbLovesGear Gregg Stock, a founding member of Strymon, was an analog engineer for Line 6 and Alesis. That might explain why Strymon has a great stance on digital gear! My guy you HAVE to try the DD-500. It's easily one of the most complex delay pedals ever made, up there with the Zoia and Meris' new LVX. It's 2-4 semi-modular delay lines, with about a billion options.
Funnily, I have really gone anti-complex when it comes to pedals(NO Zoia for me). Getting songs recorded and completed is my #1..as the English say. Stop faffing about!!! 😁
That SHARC DSP chip is a miraculous tool for audio engineers. I love my Night Sky. I sometimes wish I had gone with the Empress or the Microcosm. But I'll never get rid of my Night Sky and with the release of the Skylab I kinda hope they go all-in and add a synthesis engine. The "Time Warp Reverberator" marketing had me sold as soon as I saw it, with my ambient-leaning tastes. But a Time Warp Reverberative Synthesizer, depending on how it manifests and is designed, that sounds like something I wouldn't be able to resist haha. Even if it was some kind of Blofeld or HS Desktop iteration. I use a HS Deluxe + Night Sky + Mininova as a core ambient toolkit that can make some pretty neat sounds.
I want the time line... But... If they do a plugin I'll be over it for convenience. Would rather deal with effects in the daw for max flexibility... And indecision. That's for synths though. For guitar I totally want pedals. Maybe the dig and then timeline plugin for synths since it's obvious it's coming.
NOOOOOOOO!!! Effects for a new live setup (analog drum machine with individual outs, 4 note analog paraphonic, 2 X analog monos -> mixer w/2 aux send/returns) are still in the planning and I wanted to cheap out with a pair of multi-FX units. Dedicated Strymon pedals keeps calling to me and this did not help...
What's the name of the material you put under pedals to not scratch the synth? I'd like to get myself something similar and haven't seen this material in years
@@JorbLovesGear you were right about that, borrowed a friend's Gen Loss mk2 and cancelled my own order before it arrived. I found it to be far too overbearing an effect even at low settings, and I didn't find the basic tape saturation all that convincing. Now back to considering a Deco mk2 haha
This is one of the best synth/Strymon delay demos I’ve seen!

gd it I just bought a stereo memory man and now I have to get these too, you GAS'd me
Purchased a deco on ebay a few months back exclusively for use on my synths. In the most part I use it quite subtly, but that subtleness is fantastic
I'm considering a video all about "finishing" pedals, a bunch of subtle compression type things.

b& k precision 1530
Because the effect is mono only the dry signal is stereo does it not kill part of the stereo delay when you put the mono deco effect after it?
