I know that he is ultimately a CEO so will always make the financial choice at the end of the day but I do appreciate that Phil Spencer does genuinely seem to actually like video games unlike a lot of other related CEOS
True, it's good to have a CEO who's deeply involved in the game. That said, financial choices go beyond just a CEO (investors, shareholders, stakeholders, etc.) Yet it seems there's a lot of stars aligning for this one.

Man I love Oblivion more than Skyrim actually! Can't wait till 1 Sep. Even if there are bugs, I've lived thru Elder Scroll and Fallout. It's not even half as bad as people say even for those earlier games.
@@24Mansfield Oblivion had an epic story with an opening voiced by Sir Patrick Stewart. It tied up a lot of lore from Morrowind and gave some hints to Skyrim. The Imperial City & Citadel are huge as indoor maps go. The levels were genuinely hard at the Oblivion Planes with the numerous boss demons you have to fight. The music is grand, the set pieces are outer worldly and the final fight was epic and the scenery was beautiful. Skyrim isn't as pretty. Too much frozen tundra. Graphics are better though since it's newer of course. Some game mechanics makes it easier to play but as story goes, it's just not as expansive. To say StarField is like Oblivion is saying that the game is so expansive and story so epic that previous games cannot match it. When I say expansive, I don't mean the map area. I mean the density of stuff to do, sort of like Fallout 4 vs Fallout NV. Fallout 4 has more stuff happening throughout the map. With most of StarField being procedurally generated, I expect tons of random encounters, dungeons and most importantly, LOOT!
Great video as always! BUUUUT You did not say anything about the confirmation that Modders can make their own planets! I lead a pretty good sized team that is ramping up to start modding Starfield. We already have two big big projects that we are conceptualizing and other somewhat smaller projects where this ability is almost a necessity. For the modding community (and therefore anyone who wants to play mods) this news is HUGE. As in planet sized.
Oblivion is and always has been the superior Elder Scrolls game. The freedom, wackiness, and your ability to become insanely overpowered are why I love it so much. Plus the faction quests in Oblivion are far superior. So if Starfield feels more like Oblivion, I’ve just gotten way more excited.
I believe Starfield surpasses the hype that GTA V had, and it's so refreshing to be so hyped and excited about a video game release again!! I've got the limited edition controller and headset and the Constellation Edition preorderer through Best Buy! Gonna walk in September 1st and pick up my game just like the old days. My gaming pc is upgraded with a new AM5 motherboard with bluetooth and wifi support, featuring an AMD Ryzen 7800X3D processor, a Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card, 32GB DDR5 ram, 5TBs of NVME SSD storage, Windows 11, and a new CPU cooler and a bunch of RGB Cooling fans. My younger brother also gets a free copy of Starfield thanks to my AMD components I ordered online. On top of all that, I have a full week off work requested and approved from September 1st to the 7th. Gonna go to Florida and visit my dad and his GF during that time and play Starfield side by side. They've got an xbox series x and gamepass. It'll be fun to explain all the mechanics to them, compare game graphics and performance, and just see what their playthrough is like compared to my own. I can't wait much longer, but I won't have to! IMO, Starfield will be Game of the Year, and it'll become Game of the Decade in terms of story and quests, graphics, gameplay, and music. God, I can't wait to hear that beautiful and awe-inspiring music!! This game and this hype makes me feel like a kid again ❤
Being more Oblivion than Skyrim is something most of us have speculated for at least a year or more. There were subtle hints all over the place, namely in character creation. The New Game Plus angle strikes me as something to do with the black hole "no comment" and the whole space magic bit. There's probably a degree of either time travel or dimensional travel related to New Game Plus.
@addisonhall2098 It very well could be an Inception and/or Interstellar type of thing. I suspect there's some sort of time and space distortion aspect.
@@Dillongooding-sq1sh I wouldn't say better, but different. I like both, but Skyrim is more of an action rpg than Oblivion. Oblivion holds on to classic rpg elements a bit more. Oblivion is more choice-driven and a little more open for creation within aspects of the game. And the quest lines tend to be deeper.
The excitement I feel for this game is incredible. I’m just as excited for starfield as I was for EldenRing!! Although I do wish It could be shared across both consoles.

for my first playthough im gonna do a challenge ive done ins skyrim and new vegas, dont loot. i have to use money or rewards i get from quests and have to use the shops to buy armor or ammo. it can be pretty slow and takes forever to finally get new gear but feels like i have to use shops and resources like alchemy to make potions in skyrim. feel more like a person living in the world than just a scavenger taking stuff off of dead people and picking through every crate in existance

Having played a lot of both Oblivion and Skyrim I feel like the biggest difference between them is how they treat the player and consequently how the world feels to exist in. In Oblivion you feel more like an adventurer or an explorer as compared to Skyrim which really makes you feel like a hero. Part of that is obviously you being the dragonborn in Skyrim but I think it extends more to how quests are approached where getting a quest in oblivion felt closer to getting hired for a job than being asked for help like in Skyrim.
Aug 31 can't come soon enough! I used to bounce from game to game on whims, but now that my kids have kids, I tend to go for games with a bit more longevity and staying power. Really looking forward to getting out there.

Someone said they did a board mission and they were supposed to take 2 passengers across to a planet (taxi type mission) and 5 hours later they saw them sitting down and forgot to being them to their destination 😂😂.
I'm so happy there are board missions in the game. I hope they're like the board missions in the X games, which are radiant and can be anything like assassination, protection, recon, taxi, delivery, mine clearance, station repair missions etc.
Another great informative video, thank you. Now we know that there is a Game+ I can see a lot of players not building too many bases around the system until they reach Game+ then start building bases. That's what I might do, roll on 1am September 1st.

Really having trouble with Triple A games and day 1 releases. Its comforting to hear so much positive news. I am still skeptical, but I have a feeling once early access is released, I will probably end up buying the game day 1. First time in a very long time.
The new game plus will be linked to some type of time travel/time warp mechanic in the story. Just a prediction but honestly that's probably the coolest way to go about NG+ in my opinion and I hope to see it.
Nexus mods, the same company that created the online multiplayer mods for Skyrim, have already been working on a mod/server net to be able to play with your friends and strangers, up to 20 players depending on bandwidth. You can do many things by going into alternate dimensions such as redo scenarios to experience different outcomes and acquiring possible other items. You can work together or choose to battle each other for the dimension. Whenever you enter a new server dimension you are unknown and can bring with you only your ship and whatever it can hold. Servers can also have special modded scenarios and events. It is essentially going to make the game online using an in game interface of dimensional gate technology. It's pretty much going to turn it into Rust in space but with way, way more possible.
Oh my goodness guy's, i don't know there is just something different with Starfield,and we just know it's gonna be that game that you remember for years like Tidus and Yunas awkward laugh scene after the blitzball tournament in ff10,or stepping out into the land's between in Elden Ring for the very first time being in aww at everything i was seeing. getting owned by the mini boss walking down the hill as it was my first From Sofware game lol But i am feeling Starfield as that type of game that you have years of playthroughs and i know ff10 is linear and blah blah turn-based,it's one of those games that just let me fall in love with Square, not so much anymore but still you get my meaning..The thing is most of us already love Todd and Bethesda as a team, so idk my feelings are all over the place with this game and i can barely stand the wait.
If there is no level cap then I was worried about my build over nothing. There is a lot of stuff I want to try out in this game, but it is experiences tied to skills. There are only a limited number of skills that I want as far as what I mainly want to do in the game, but there are so many skills that are more of side experiences i'd like to still do, but don't think they make a major impact on my character, so it would feel like a waste of points if there was a cap. Like I want to have my main build to go through the main quest and side quests, but once I beat the game then I want to get into ship building, creating a business, building outposts, etc. The game would essentially be over for me at the point I do that and creating a new character just to do that wouldn't be fun imo. I'd rather have multiple characters for the sake of different personalities and stories they live through. So that is my favorite news.
The only thing i am missing for now, is not having any alien like NPC or android NPC like in Mass effect for example. I am sure modders will fix this and go even further
I'm going to be trying it out ony steam deck. RE4 ran very well but that was on steamos. Even though TCM isn't a demanding game it's still running great on windows with my deck so I'm hoping starfield runs well. The deck can really surprise you at what it can do.
I wonder about new game+, has anyone watched red dwarf? Remember when rimmer becomes ace rimmer and he keeps ace alive with alternate versions of himself in other universes infinitely? Imagine at the end of the game you are dying but a you from another universe meet up an you take over their mission. Would be so cool es
I hope the game gives us a good variety of reasons to go explore all of these other planets besides "This resource can only be found here," and "Go here and find this item," or "Go here and kill this thing." I don't want to go explore a planet only to find that it doesn't have anything I don't already have, or doesn't even have anything interesting to be found on it in the first place. With the sheer amount of planets, there has to be a reason you'd WANT to go to all of them. As someone who doesn't have much time to play games anymore, I have to know that going and exploring a planet is even going to be worth my time or if there will just be the same cookie cutter enemies, outposts, and creatures to fight/raid. I'm concerned that a decent amount of these planets simply aren't going to have anything on them that's worth the 4-6 hours of playtime that I'm able to spare. These planets not only have to LOOK unique and interesting, they also have to have unique, interesting items, enemies, gameplay, quests, and lore. If the extra planets don't have ANYTHING on them besides dungeons and settlement sites, there will practically be no reason to go and explore more than 3 or 4 of them. Especially if they're not even inhabited. I hope planet exploring fits nicely into a gameplay loop and doesn't become tedious and manages to stay fresh every time. I also hope that the main quest takes you to some of these planets, and doesn't have too much back and forth between the same 2 or 3 planets for it's entirety. All in all, I'm looking forward to this game but the absolute scope of it worries me, and I hope that even 1/16th of the available planets will even be worth the player's while.

2:10 After living here for 25 years, this confirms that moving to the US West Coast was the best idea I ever had... hehe... IMO, the Game Plus confirms something I've been considering for a bit now. Ties directly into the endgame, as they said, which obviously also includes the Space Magic/Dragon Shouts progression, I'm sure. I think it also ties directly into the Shattered Space DLC. When you "do THE thing" I think it changes, not only your character in some monumental way, but also the game world, as well. Like the SHATTERED is literal on a few levels.
I'm beyond hyped! I have this whole next weekend off starting Thursday all the way through Tuesday after Labor Day. I'm going to be grinding out this game nonstop that entire weekend!
Skyrim and fallout4 didn't have a level cap either. It was more of a softcap... Also, I dont care when people say "it's the biggest" or "the best game," especially when it comes from the devs or the head says it... I can also tune my own horn... Still, I am cautiously optimistic, I have no FOMO, I hate pre-orders, and I hope people could take a breath, be prepared to be disappointed but hopefully this game may be a game of the year contender...
@Anetonix If Modders fix your game, I find it hard to take it a passively... I mean, if I created my magnum opus, and then a random schmuck tries to fix it, I would be kinda pissed... Any game that hopes that the players will fix it for you is not a good game... Take Skyrim or Fallout4, the game by themselves is good, modders that mod in random things, that would fun, is good, but the moment the players pulls a fanpatch, that's insulting... So no, I do really hope the modders would not fix the game, because if it's up to gold standard, there would be nothing to fix... Its like waiting for a boat to be complete, puts into the water, starts to leak, and then some dryman would come along and say "it's OK, the boatsmen from caribbean will fix the leak" while the boat is in Japan... No, they promised this game will have the least bugs that any of the bethesda games(I don't take that as anything positively boasting), so hopefully, this will be at least playable...
Speaking of another Bethesda title, Sim Settlements 2 has brought new life to Fallout 4 both during and after the main quest and a new chapter just released. It would be awesome if they hired or brought similar features to Starfield. Either way, the modding potential will definitely take the game even further for years to come.
I assume in some point they can add more skins about the main character 'a suit. To look like Buzz lightyear, Master Chief etc. Personally i would like a helmet like power ranger lion in power rangers jungle.

I know we can get up from the pilot's seat on our ship in space/free flightand walk around. What i want to know is, can we travel between POI's (planets/space stations/moons) manually within the system without having to use the grav drive? Also, can one of our crew members pilot us there while were in one of the HABs crafting, talking with npc's, etc?
I appreciate the insight. Maybe we can use the grav drive even in a single system to save time but I just hope that it's not the only means of moving through space. I have a sneaking suspicion that each moon/planet etc are separately instanced areas but I hope I'm wrong.
I still haven't seen firm information on ultra-wide 21:9 screen support, or even if we can use HOTAS/joystick... But I'm so glad I preordered this. It looks incredible and I'm unbelievably excited!
People are not understanding the New Game+ feature. The article specifically says, it's Bethesda's own twist on NG+ and since Bethesda games are not ANYTHING like other single player games, we shouldn't jump to conclusions about things like items or skills being carried over. It's more like, NOT being forced into the main questline and/or having a new start. I know this is just as speculative as anything else, but Bethesda don't do NG+ in any other of their games, so it's not going to be close to what people are familiar with.
I'm really curious what "More Oblivion than Skyrim" even means. I love oblivion, it's actually my favorite BGS game and I go back to it all the time, so it absolutely sells as a marketing line to me, but I'm not sure what is meant by that comment. I'm definitely interested to find out. I wonder if it's more like, atmospheric. Like Oblivion was a functioning-but-still-dangerous society that you existed as a part of, and Skyrim was an almost post-apocalyptic feudal vibes.
Was there a time mentioned where early access starts in Eastern Coast or was the 8pm launch time the same for early access as it is for Aug 5th release

No level cap? That would mean (for example) if the player is level 150+ and the hardest threat in the game is level 150, then there's no more challenge in the game. we'll be cutting through everything like butter. I think I'd prefer the excitement of being tucked into a corner behind a crate with my back to the wall, scavenging my inventory for a lick of health and ammo while a barrage of bullets are punching holes in the wall around me.
Yeah, I'm out the country visiting my wife. I'm still wondering if I can I play it on my steam deck 😁 And is it going to have a No Man Sky feel. Where's it's a big empty space & nothing to do but explore with a hint of combat?
I LOVED the fact that Phil said *_Starfield_* is more akin to Morrowind and Oblivion than Skyrim. That's means so much to me as I absolutely LOVED Morrowind & Oblivion and I absolutely hated Skyrim. To put that in perspective, I liked/still like ESO way more than Skyrim.
This is my biggest concern / worry - that its "spread around" so many planets - yada yada... Its just impossible to make it dense. I'd say stick to one main planet, and other planets can have like a single "area" on them but full of stuff to do.
Love that he mentioned was more Oblivion, love Skyrim but Oblivion was awesome. Weird they don't mention being influenced at all by Firefly, since the games look and feel has a very Firefly look and feel to me

I'm glad I've never played any Bethesda games before, makes it easy in terms of expectations. I will play Starfield, but I'm not so hyped about it as many other people are. I made this mistake with Cyberpunk. As CDPR had the great Witcher franchise me and many others had huge expectations on Cyberpunk and we were all extremely disappointed. Anyway, hope Bethesda fans are not disappointed, as the net is currently blowing up with content for this game.
Note: Pete said he was 150-160 hours into his CURRENT playthrough, not his time in Starfield. He and all the team have been iterating and playtesting for yonks.
I tried so hard to resist the hype for this game but after the last week or so it has become pretty impossible. Hearing the words "it's Oblivion more than Skyrim" give me a level of excitement I haven't felt in a minute
Pete doesn't have 150 hours into the game. He is 150 hours into his current playthrough. I think he said he's had like 10-15 playthroughs with various iterations of the game.
"More Oblivion than Skyrim" concerns me. In Oblivion the game leveled everything to the character. to the point it it didn't matter where you went because the same monsters and treasures awaited you depending on your level.
Constellation Edition is a strange one as its not actually either as such... There is NO disc but, there is a digital code in the box laser etched on a piece of currency (probably plastic) so although its actually a digital code - you dont get it sent to you but, included in the physical box. This is causing problems at many retailers currently. Some dont understand early access and witholding such till Sept 6th. Some are not DISPATCHING till Sept 1st as they think that is release date and therefore shipping and recieving will be later and around 2nd or 3rd. They need educating on this. Why dont we have midnight releases like we used to at least here in UK? Game is bad on this too. Although the launch time is Sept 1st its actaully at 1am here in UK. Many fans want to launch at that time and have paid a LOT of money for this edition which includes the early access. Yet GAME is witholding many till when the stores open on the 1st (if you ordered to the store for pickup) therefore delaying customers the acutal launch by 8 hours or more. Some who ordered to their home address are perhaps lucky to get it in time but, some still being told not dispatched till 1st or arriving sometime on 1st which again is delaying launch for these people who as aforementioned paid a LOT of money for this edition and EARLY access. Why are we not able to collect (at least in store pickups) the day before even at close of business so as to be ready for the next day 1am launch. The codes wont allow us to play anyway till the servers allow at 1am. Who made GAME the cyber police to withold games in their backroom till they open the following day safeguarding the games so we cant have ready for 1am. They are denying us 8 hours that we paid for!

When you have someone in charge of something they care about instead of just a bottom line is when you get true masterpieces.
Yeah, it's kinda rare to hear a CEO playing their product for over 200 hours.
Of course he makes financial responsible choices but for him there is also the player perspective in the back of his mind. And thats a good thing.
Xbox would be dead if not for Phil Spencer. They completely lost touch with the consumer base and he saved them from certain doom.

To say StarField is like Oblivion is saying that the game is so expansive and story so epic that previous games cannot match it. When I say expansive, I don't mean the map area. I mean the density of stuff to do, sort of like Fallout 4 vs Fallout NV. Fallout 4 has more stuff happening throughout the map.
With most of StarField being procedurally generated, I expect tons of random encounters, dungeons and most importantly, LOOT!
Great video as always! BUUUUT You did not say anything about the confirmation that Modders can make their own planets! I lead a pretty good sized team that is ramping up to start modding Starfield. We already have two big big projects that we are conceptualizing and other somewhat smaller projects where this ability is almost a necessity. For the modding community (and therefore anyone who wants to play mods) this news is HUGE. As in planet sized.

Oblivion is and always has been the superior Elder Scrolls game. The freedom, wackiness, and your ability to become insanely overpowered are why I love it so much. Plus the faction quests in Oblivion are far superior. So if Starfield feels more like Oblivion, I’ve just gotten way more excited.
the base game had level scaling which I really hated. I had to mod that to be able to play it.

I believe Starfield surpasses the hype that GTA V had, and it's so refreshing to be so hyped and excited about a video game release again!! I've got the limited edition controller and headset and the Constellation Edition preorderer through Best Buy! Gonna walk in September 1st and pick up my game just like the old days.
My gaming pc is upgraded with a new AM5 motherboard with bluetooth and wifi support, featuring an AMD Ryzen 7800X3D processor, a Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card, 32GB DDR5 ram, 5TBs of NVME SSD storage, Windows 11, and a new CPU cooler and a bunch of RGB Cooling fans.
My younger brother also gets a free copy of Starfield thanks to my AMD components I ordered online. On top of all that, I have a full week off work requested and approved from September 1st to the 7th. Gonna go to Florida and visit my dad and his GF during that time and play Starfield side by side. They've got an xbox series x and gamepass. It'll be fun to explain all the mechanics to them, compare game graphics and performance, and just see what their playthrough is like compared to my own. I can't wait much longer, but I won't have to!
IMO, Starfield will be Game of the Year, and it'll become Game of the Decade in terms of story and quests, graphics, gameplay, and music. God, I can't wait to hear that beautiful and awe-inspiring music!! This game and this hype makes me feel like a kid again ❤

Being more Oblivion than Skyrim is something most of us have speculated for at least a year or more. There were subtle hints all over the place, namely in character creation. The New Game Plus angle strikes me as something to do with the black hole "no comment" and the whole space magic bit. There's probably a degree of either time travel or dimensional travel related to New Game Plus.
Reminds me of the movie inception the way you describe it.

@@Dillongooding-sq1sh I wouldn't say better, but different. I like both, but Skyrim is more of an action rpg than Oblivion. Oblivion holds on to classic rpg elements a bit more. Oblivion is more choice-driven and a little more open for creation within aspects of the game. And the quest lines tend to be deeper.

for my first playthough im gonna do a challenge ive done ins skyrim and new vegas, dont loot. i have to use money or rewards i get from quests and have to use the shops to buy armor or ammo. it can be pretty slow and takes forever to finally get new gear but feels like i have to use shops and resources like alchemy to make potions in skyrim. feel more like a person living in the world than just a scavenger taking stuff off of dead people and picking through every crate in existance

Having played a lot of both Oblivion and Skyrim I feel like the biggest difference between them is how they treat the player and consequently how the world feels to exist in. In Oblivion you feel more like an adventurer or an explorer as compared to Skyrim which really makes you feel like a hero. Part of that is obviously you being the dragonborn in Skyrim but I think it extends more to how quests are approached where getting a quest in oblivion felt closer to getting hired for a job than being asked for help like in Skyrim.

Aug 31 can't come soon enough! I used to bounce from game to game on whims, but now that my kids have kids, I tend to go for games with a bit more longevity and staying power. Really looking forward to getting out there.

Someone said they did a board mission and they were supposed to take 2 passengers across to a planet (taxi type mission) and 5 hours later they saw them sitting down and forgot to being them to their destination 😂😂.
Be super immersive if one of them would have said, hey captain are we almost there yet?
I'm so happy there are board missions in the game. I hope they're like the board missions in the X games, which are radiant and can be anything like assassination, protection, recon, taxi, delivery, mine clearance, station repair missions etc.

Really having trouble with Triple A games and day 1 releases. Its comforting to hear so much positive news. I am still skeptical, but I have a feeling once early access is released, I will probably end up buying the game day 1. First time in a very long time.
The new game plus will be linked to some type of time travel/time warp mechanic in the story. Just a prediction but honestly that's probably the coolest way to go about NG+ in my opinion and I hope to see it.

Nexus mods, the same company that created the online multiplayer mods for Skyrim, have already been working on a mod/server net to be able to play with your friends and strangers, up to 20 players depending on bandwidth.
You can do many things by going into alternate dimensions such as redo scenarios to experience different outcomes and acquiring possible other items.
You can work together or choose to battle each other for the dimension.
Whenever you enter a new server dimension you are unknown and can bring with you only your ship and whatever it can hold.
Servers can also have special modded scenarios and events.
It is essentially going to make the game online using an in game interface of dimensional gate technology.
It's pretty much going to turn it into Rust in space but with way, way more possible.
Oh my goodness guy's, i don't know there is just something different with Starfield,and we just know it's gonna be that game that you remember for years like Tidus and Yunas awkward laugh scene after the blitzball tournament in ff10,or stepping out into the land's between in Elden Ring for the very first time being in aww at everything i was seeing. getting owned by the mini boss walking down the hill as it was my first From Sofware game lol But i am feeling Starfield as that type of game that you have years of playthroughs and i know ff10 is linear and blah blah turn-based,it's one of those games that just let me fall in love with Square, not so much anymore but still you get my meaning..The thing is most of us already love Todd and Bethesda as a team, so idk my feelings are all over the place with this game and i can barely stand the wait.
If there is no level cap then I was worried about my build over nothing. There is a lot of stuff I want to try out in this game, but it is experiences tied to skills. There are only a limited number of skills that I want as far as what I mainly want to do in the game, but there are so many skills that are more of side experiences i'd like to still do, but don't think they make a major impact on my character, so it would feel like a waste of points if there was a cap. Like I want to have my main build to go through the main quest and side quests, but once I beat the game then I want to get into ship building, creating a business, building outposts, etc. The game would essentially be over for me at the point I do that and creating a new character just to do that wouldn't be fun imo. I'd rather have multiple characters for the sake of different personalities and stories they live through. So that is my favorite news.
The only thing i am missing for now, is not having any alien like NPC or android NPC like in Mass effect for example. I am sure modders will fix this and go even further

I'm going to be trying it out ony steam deck. RE4 ran very well but that was on steamos. Even though TCM isn't a demanding game it's still running great on windows with my deck so I'm hoping starfield runs well.

I wonder about new game+, has anyone watched red dwarf? Remember when rimmer becomes ace rimmer and he keeps ace alive with alternate versions of himself in other universes infinitely? Imagine at the end of the game you are dying but a you from another universe meet up an you take over their mission.

Sounds like we finally get a game that gives the power to the player. I can't wait.
I hope the game gives us a good variety of reasons to go explore all of these other planets besides "This resource can only be found here," and "Go here and find this item," or "Go here and kill this thing." I don't want to go explore a planet only to find that it doesn't have anything I don't already have, or doesn't even have anything interesting to be found on it in the first place.
With the sheer amount of planets, there has to be a reason you'd WANT to go to all of them. As someone who doesn't have much time to play games anymore, I have to know that going and exploring a planet is even going to be worth my time or if there will just be the same cookie cutter enemies, outposts, and creatures to fight/raid. I'm concerned that a decent amount of these planets simply aren't going to have anything on them that's worth the 4-6 hours of playtime that I'm able to spare.
These planets not only have to LOOK unique and interesting, they also have to have unique, interesting items, enemies, gameplay, quests, and lore. If the extra planets don't have ANYTHING on them besides dungeons and settlement sites, there will practically be no reason to go and explore more than 3 or 4 of them. Especially if they're not even inhabited.
I hope planet exploring fits nicely into a gameplay loop and doesn't become tedious and manages to stay fresh every time. I also hope that the main quest takes you to some of these planets, and doesn't have too much back and forth between the same 2 or 3 planets for it's entirety. All in all, I'm looking forward to this game but the absolute scope of it worries me, and I hope that even 1/16th of the available planets will even be worth the player's while.

I cannot recall being this positively excited for a game release. I have been cautiously excited, but never positively hyped like this.
I have been before.. Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim and Fallout 4, to be precise. The hype is justified based on that.

IMO, the Game Plus confirms something I've been considering for a bit now.
Ties directly into the endgame, as they said, which obviously also includes the Space Magic/Dragon Shouts progression, I'm sure.
I think it also ties directly into the Shattered Space DLC.
When you "do THE thing" I think it changes, not only your character in some monumental way, but also the game world, as well.
Like the SHATTERED is literal on a few levels.
I'm beyond hyped! I have this whole next weekend off starting Thursday all the way through Tuesday after Labor Day. I'm going to be grinding out this game nonstop that entire weekend!

This looks exactly like Elder Scrolls and Fallout in Space. So if you like those games, you'll almost certainly like Starfield I'd imagine.

I mean, if I created my magnum opus, and then a random schmuck tries to fix it, I would be kinda pissed...
Any game that hopes that the players will fix it for you is not a good game...
Take Skyrim or Fallout4, the game by themselves is good, modders that mod in random things, that would fun, is good, but the moment the players pulls a fanpatch, that's insulting...
So no, I do really hope the modders would not fix the game, because if it's up to gold standard, there would be nothing to fix...
Its like waiting for a boat to be complete, puts into the water, starts to leak, and then some dryman would come along and say "it's OK, the boatsmen from caribbean will fix the leak" while the boat is in Japan...
No, they promised this game will have the least bugs that any of the bethesda games(I don't take that as anything positively boasting), so hopefully, this will be at least playable...
Speaking of another Bethesda title, Sim Settlements 2 has brought new life to Fallout 4 both during and after the main quest and a new chapter just released. It would be awesome if they hired or brought similar features to Starfield. Either way, the modding potential will definitely take the game even further for years to come.

I know we can get up from the pilot's seat on our ship in space/free flightand walk around. What i want to know is, can we travel between POI's (planets/space stations/moons) manually within the system without having to use the grav drive? Also, can one of our crew members pilot us there while were in one of the HABs crafting, talking with npc's, etc?
I appreciate the insight. Maybe we can use the grav drive even in a single system to save time but I just hope that it's not the only means of moving through space. I have a sneaking suspicion that each moon/planet etc are separately instanced areas but I hope I'm wrong.
I still haven't seen firm information on ultra-wide 21:9 screen support, or even if we can use HOTAS/joystick... But I'm so glad I preordered this. It looks incredible and I'm unbelievably excited!

People are not understanding the New Game+ feature. The article specifically says, it's Bethesda's own twist on NG+ and since Bethesda games are not ANYTHING like other single player games, we shouldn't jump to conclusions about things like items or skills being carried over. It's more like, NOT being forced into the main questline and/or having a new start. I know this is just as speculative as anything else, but Bethesda don't do NG+ in any other of their games, so it's not going to be close to what people are familiar with.

I'm really curious what "More Oblivion than Skyrim" even means. I love oblivion, it's actually my favorite BGS game and I go back to it all the time, so it absolutely sells as a marketing line to me, but I'm not sure what is meant by that comment. I'm definitely interested to find out. I wonder if it's more like, atmospheric. Like Oblivion was a functioning-but-still-dangerous society that you existed as a part of, and Skyrim was an almost post-apocalyptic feudal vibes.

No level cap? That would mean (for example) if the player is level 150+ and the hardest threat in the game is level 150, then there's no more challenge in the game. we'll be cutting through everything like butter.
I think I'd prefer the excitement of being tucked into a corner behind a crate with my back to the wall, scavenging my inventory for a lick of health and ammo while a barrage of bullets are punching holes in the wall around me.

I LOVED the fact that Phil said *_Starfield_* is more akin to Morrowind and Oblivion than Skyrim. That's means so much to me as I absolutely LOVED Morrowind & Oblivion and I absolutely hated Skyrim. To put that in perspective, I liked/still like ESO way more than Skyrim.

This is my biggest concern / worry - that its "spread around" so many planets - yada yada... Its just impossible to make it dense. I'd say stick to one main planet, and other planets can have like a single "area" on them but full of stuff to do.

I'm glad I've never played any Bethesda games before, makes it easy in terms of expectations. I will play Starfield, but I'm not so hyped about it as many other people are. I made this mistake with Cyberpunk. As CDPR had the great Witcher franchise me and many others had huge expectations on Cyberpunk and we were all extremely disappointed. Anyway, hope Bethesda fans are not disappointed, as the net is currently blowing up with content for this game.

I tried so hard to resist the hype for this game but after the last week or so it has become pretty impossible.

Pete doesn't have 150 hours into the game. He is 150 hours into his current playthrough. I think he said he's had like 10-15 playthroughs with various iterations of the game.
"More Oblivion than Skyrim" concerns me. In Oblivion the game leveled everything to the character. to the point it it didn't matter where you went because the same monsters and treasures awaited you depending on your level.
Constellation Edition is a strange one as its not actually either as such... There is NO disc but, there is a digital code in the box laser etched on a piece of currency (probably plastic) so although its actually a digital code - you dont get it sent to you but, included in the physical box.
This is causing problems at many retailers currently. Some dont understand early access and witholding such till Sept 6th. Some are not DISPATCHING till Sept 1st as they think that is release date and therefore shipping and recieving will be later and around 2nd or 3rd.
They need educating on this. Why dont we have midnight releases like we used to at least here in UK? Game is bad on this too. Although the launch time is Sept 1st its actaully at 1am here in UK. Many fans want to launch at that time and have paid a LOT of money for this edition which includes the early access.
Yet GAME is witholding many till when the stores open on the 1st (if you ordered to the store for pickup) therefore delaying customers the acutal launch by 8 hours or more. Some who ordered to their home address are perhaps lucky to get it in time but, some still being told not dispatched till 1st or arriving sometime on 1st which again is delaying launch for these people who as aforementioned paid a LOT of money for this edition and EARLY access.
Why are we not able to collect (at least in store pickups) the day before even at close of business so as to be ready for the next day 1am launch. The codes wont allow us to play anyway till the servers allow at 1am. Who made GAME the cyber police to withold games in their backroom till they open the following day safeguarding the games so we cant have ready for 1am. They are denying us 8 hours that we paid for!
