- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
- This video explains the entire home sleep testing process, from start to finish, with ApneaLink Air from ResMed. It demonstrates exactly how to set up the ApneaLink Air device once you get home, and explains how to use it.
The ApneaLink Air device is indicated for use by a Health Care Professional (HCP), where it may aid in the diagnosis of sleep disordered breathing for adult patients. ApneaLink Air records the following data: patient respiratory nasal airflow, snoring, blood oxygen saturation, pulse and respiratory effort during sleep. The device uses these recordings to produce a report for the HCP that may aid in the diagnosis of sleep disordered breathing or for further clinical investigation.

I found this video helpful. The test equipment was not uncomfortable. Taping the cannula and oximeter in place really helped a lot because I sleep restlessly.
Hey, you really need to do a video showing how a woman would wear this thing. Most men have a flat chest space and women don’t making the instructions difficult to follow. Even if there had been written instructions I’m sure they would have not had instructions to put the thing on for women. Gods blessing for women make it difficult to know where to place it.

My doctor showed me between the girls
Every body is different I hope you figure it out lol
I never thought about how difficult that would be. I am male so I don’t have any say, I hope everyone who has breast can find what’s comfortable!
What if my girls are too big?👀
Probably the worse sleep i’ve gotten in my life taking this test, if you are a side sleeper or like me and sleep on your stomach then get ready to get terrible sleep in fear that you might end the test from unplugging something.
Not everyone is self conscious that way. That is on you and your anxiety. Stop blaming the test and blame yourself.
You're right. I even took two different otc sleeping aids to help. Couldn't sleep due to having the apparatus being uncomfortable (nostrils felt stuffy, had to breath through my mouth. Finger pincher wire, as well as nostril hose were too restrictive). I CANNOT sleep on my back due to bulging discs. Plus I move alot when I'm sleeping. I do not sleep in only one position like a mummy.
This test SUCKED. Had to take an anxiety pill in the middle of the night!
I finished the hours needed. Gladly took of the darn thing. Now I can go back and get some real sleep.
@@LT-eq2ththis is a very rude and sharp way to respond. I am also a side sleeper and what they mean is that is is uncomfortable for them because they can’t sleep on their side because it might move something. I actually did the test last night as a side sleeper and had the nasal thing come out, so now I need to redo the test. Very rude and uneducated way to respond honestly.
Agreed. A video for woman is a must with the placement of the device.
Good point. Where do I put it, under my arm pits? Below the breasts?

Looks better than sleep studies of old, where you get fitted with a bunch of wires on your head and parts of your body. Plus, you do it at home instead of some weird place with a camera on you.
The advantage of the sleep studies of old was that _somebody else hooked you up_ and you could be assured that everything was being done correctly. This DIY s*** is for the birds. @@dextryn8061 That was rude, Ryan. And doesn't even make sense. Grow up.
I envy you long term CPAP users. I did a CPAP test and got 45 minutes total sleep with it over more than a month of testing 5 years ago. The severe sleep apnea gave me AFib. Tonight I take this test to be able to get a simple canula attached to an oxygen maker to help a little bit. How I wish the CPAP had worked for me.
are you under any treatment for it?
What treatment works if you cannot tolerate CPAP?
@@NeerajSharma-pw1zu Not everyone can tolerate CPAP and some sleep disorders won't resolve with CPAP. Two other alternatives are APAP and BiPAP, Adaptive Servo Ventilation, as well as oral and nasal appliances. It really depends on the individual and their particular situation.
@@jennbrown1163I used a CPAP machine for almost 15. All of a sudden the masks started breaking my face out. Tried different styles, even nose pillows. I finally had to give it up after a needed dermatologist visit. It's a miracle I never croaked in my sleep. Years later I'm testing for Inspire now. Hopefully I'll have success with this kit. you can change for MAD mandibular advance dispositive , consult your dentist.
I had the old school test some 15 years ago, got diagnosed with sleep apnea, but could not tolerate the CPAP dash dash masks don't fit the peculiar configurations of my facial bones and all that happens is that cold, dry , air blows in my eyes and keeps me half-awake (and uncomfortable, natch) all night. Is it just me, or are the prongs of the air flow tube pointing UPWARDS, not downwards???
Why is this the only comment on this? " Down like this????" Wtf. My provider said that this is the most important part of the test and if the prongs aren't pointing the right way, you might not get a good reading and have to do it over again. This is a major error in this video. Boo ResMed
@@jesseaedon I think you just have to make sure the hose isn't crimped, but otherwise there's only one way to have the prongs inserted into your nostrils, so nothing to really worry about. But the video is definitely weird (and if I recall, the written info says the same thing.) Good luck!
So I performed the test exactly as described in the instruction two nights in a row. The test seemed to have been performed well. But in the morning when I held the power button for 3 seconds like instructed, there was no red or green light in the “Test Completion” area. Super confusing system. I would not recommend this to others.
Same thing happend to me

What does this mean? Same happened to me. Tried to end the study but the test complete light did not indicate either green or red. It was just blank.
Well what happened
First night doing this had a failed result at the end after a horrible night of worry of having a failed test what would be my next move
I awoke several times during testing to find that the cannula had slipped out of my nose, and a red light had appeared on the monitor. Be certain to tape the cannula securely, but do not obstruct breathing - ensure that you receive the best possible (normal) sleep that you can get, device notwithstanding.
Did your test work despite it slipping off?
@@rendonrjr It did. After the full testing period, all of the data was recorded successfully. Should you later move on to a mask test (I used a nose-only mask), please make sure that you have a little bit of play in the mask and strap prior to sleep. I had a 0% leak rate, which was apparently unheard of, but it was very uncomfortable. Allow the mask to slip a bit from time to time and you'll likely sleep better than I did.
@@rendonrjr Yes, it did. I think that the software is smart enough to work with the most basic collected data and extrapolate from that. I'd imagine that the slip off process is incredibly common for this type of testing, and if the process fails, then they would simply schedule a new test. Mine provided plenty of data.
Is the belt and device on your chest measuring anything directly, like heartbeat? Or is that just a convenient place to wear it?
Ok, let me answer my own question: it’s the effort sensor. So it is measuring something.
I believe it is measuring respiration rate.
The belt is hinged. As you breathe in and out, your chest expanding and contracting causes the hinge to move. This is the way the system keeps track of your respiratory rate.
These instructions were spot on and helped me set it up without issue.

Its now 7:00am on christmas my eyes are burning im exhausted to near tears and am seriously done with this...a whole week screwed up by this test. dreading the fact that i will likely spend tonight yet again awake with tubes taped all over me for absolutely no gain. i have insomnia and chronic pain im starting to think this is literally impossible.

@@NymphetaminexXxGrrrl I know this is late, but did you get your tonsils removed after all?? And if so, did it help with the sleep apnea?
Ask your sleep clinic if they test the unit before they give it to you. I got all hooked up for a test last night, only to have a flashing red warning light appear when I powered on the unit. A loose connection, according to the instructions, would be responsible for a red light. Yet the connection seemed solid and ten minutes of fussing failed to make any difference. I'm fairly mechanically inclined and I had no idea what could be wrong with it. I didn't want to break the unit so I turned the device off, which promptly ended the test. No restart possible, although that wouldn't have made a difference since I couldn't fix the problem. When I returned the device the next morning the tech said the connection appeared secure and could not understand why the light was staying on and failing to allow the test. I'll have to reschedule. A complete waste of time.
The red light kept blinking for my son, too. We couldn't figure out why, as it was installed tightly. We're hoping the test works properly.

Hi Rita,
Sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing. Test frequency is at your doctor’s discretion. Most doctors and insurance will ask for a new test to see if the same prescription applies or if it needs to be adjusted.
This process is similar to an eye exam. We have yearly check-ups/exams to see if vision has gotten worse and make sure eyeglasses stay up-to-date with prescription needs; CPAP therapy is similar, though may take longer to change.

If you tend to sleep on your side, you could rotate the belt so the device is at your side or back. As long as it is able to monitor your breathing, you can adjust the positioning of the machine & belt to fit your needs.
Doing this test was awful for someone with insomnia anxiety and claustrophobia. Had like 3 panic attacks before my mom recommended sleeping medicine. I would have not been able to do it at all without knocking myself out. I am a stomach sleeper and i just wasn't able to sleep on my stomach i slept on my back because of the medication. Hi Jesse, Yes! If you have any issues with your sleep test equipment and adjustments aren't working, please bring it back to the clinic who provided it to you and they can assist you further. Also, while we have found the best results can be achieved by sleeping on your back, you should be fine sleeping on your side or stomach, if that is what you prefer. If I keep waking up to the machine turned off does that mean it recorded enough
Hello George, At the end of a typical test, the light on the device should be either green for a successful test, or red for an unsuccessful test. If it is shut off entirely upon waking, it could mean the batteries have become depleted during the night. If that is the case, the batteries should be replaced, and the device worn again for another night.
Instructions very clear and helpful. Unfortunately, I am not able to sleep with anything attached and that is what happened today, at 3 something am I disconnected the monitor. I was told to return it today.
Does it matter which hand you put the pulse oximeter on?
Not at all. As long as the oximeter can pick up on your pulse rate, either hand will work just fine.
After going through the home sleep study, I wish I would have put it on my non-dominant hand. The exterior was rubbery , so it kept catching on the material when I tried to move or adjust my blankets. If it had a smooth exterior, it wouldn't have stuck to the fabric.. or if I had put it on the finger of the other hand, it would have been less bothersome. But I already had the line taped on my other hand, and in my sleep-tossed frame of mind, it would have been more difficult to switch it.
This video doesn't make it clear where the belt should be positioned for women. The man in the video seemed to attach it below his sternum, then moved it up. For those of us with breasts, where are we to position it? That seems like a basic step. Also the directions in this video said "prongs pointing down" as the person inserted them (correct) with prongs facing up). There seemed to be only a couple useful tips in this video.
Thank you, Jenn, for your feedback. For women, the belt should be worn above the breasts. Be careful not to overtighten the belt, as this would reduce signal quality and comfort. The belt should be secure and comfortable. I'll be happy to pass on your other feedback on the video to the appropriate team within ResMed for further review and possible updates. Thank you!

Hi Sarah, The best way to determine this would be to return the machine and equipment to the person or company who provided them to you for the sleep test. They can determine whether your data was safely recorded and properly stored or whether you may need to retake the sleep test.
The red test complete light turned on as soon as I inserted the batteries. Is this normal?
Hi Patrick, Yes, however, if the light remains red after properly connecting the equipment, please bring it back in to the clinic that provided it to you and they can help you out. Thank you for asking!
I'm glad I don't have to go to a sleep study clinic, for I sleep naked; I simply can not wear clothes, so it would be super embarrassing.
🤣
I just ordered the test. I have very small, narrow fingers. Will the pulse oximeter stay on? I tried a different test in the past, & it didn't register a reading on my narrow finger.
Hi Sarah! Thanks for reaching out! Your concern is valid and multiple sizes are available for the finger sensor for this reason. Please bring this up with the person providing the test equipment to you and request a smaller-sized finger sensor if the one you receive doesn't fit well.
HELP! I CAN'T PUT THE BELT ON. WHY?
Where should women put the belt? It's hard to tell from the video.
Problem: I can't sleep on my back. I sometimes sleep on my side, but usually on my stomach. So will I need to put the thing on backwards?
I sleep on my stomach, can I still sleep that way or do I have to try and sleep on my back?
You should be fine sleeping on your side or stomach, if that is what you prefer. You can rotate the belt so the device is at your side or back. It just needs to be able to monitor your breathing. This is why we often recommend sleeping on your back, since the best results can be achieved this way. The key components to the test are the cannula sitting under the nose - to ensure that the airway remains unobstructed - and the effort sensor belt around the chest that detects effort to breathe. However, y
What does this mean? Did I mess it up? I Tried to end the recording by pushing the power button the next morning, but the test complete light did not indicate either green or red. It was just blank. After pushing it a few more times, all of the lights went on red and then finally the test complete lit up green. In total I probably pushed the button five times.
How do I wear my oxygen while I do this test tonight? Please help!
I have as yet to see any video mentioning oxygen.
You need to either create larger straps or provide updated trainings to not give it to people with a BMI over 40. The strap barely fit on my husband, and it messed up the results because it recorded barely any of the times he stopped breathing during his sleep, requiring another sleep study in person.
Even though everything was attached the effort sensor wont stop going off and i dont know why
Hello, Please bring the device and equipment back to the clinician who provided it to you and let them know about this issue. They can then provide you with a replacement and assist you with demonstrating you you can get the effort sensor to remain properly connected.
If the test complete turns red after a night of no issues, is it still possible it recorded everything fine?
Check with your sleep clinic or physician who gave you the equipment and they'll let you know if enough data was recorded. If so, you're fine. If not, they may have you try again.
What if you sleep naked? I assume it doesn't change anything.
No, unless you don't like the feel of the equipment on your skin.
I'm honestly super confused as to why I was given one of these. I have restless leg syndrome, not sleep apnea.
It could be your doctors simply want to rule that out as a potential issue; and if you end up also having sleep apnea (because the two aren't mutually exclusive) then again even better because there are various treatment options that could improve your sleep even further.
what if the test is for more than 1 night? do you turn it off and resume?

I am going to be doing a sleep study. I sleep with a fan every night. Is it okay to have my fan blowing on me while i sleep?
While this shouldn't affect your sleep test, we'd recommend bringing this up to the sleep clinic or physician when you pick up your sleep study equipment.
trust me use some medical tape both on the wrist and on the face
What if you talk in your sleep and say embarrassing things?
I don't think it records actual audio. There is probably more people who say worse things.
I completed my at home sleep study.
Compared to other machines I've used. I found this machine to be the best.
Easy setup,
no confusing instructions.
I was greatful to have found this video on RUclips. I just wanted to just cross reference to make sure. I was properly hook up.
Cant wait for my results
Is it free
@@BlackMamba-lt8oe 195$
@@BlackMamba-lt8oe It is the at home test. Your doctor will loan it to you for testing and then you have to return it so the office can see your results. Then if it's warranted, you would be fitted for a cpap and mask.
I agree with you the ease of use was wonderful. I just wish that Dr. Office would have provided link or qr code to this video. I realize I inserted nose sensor upside-down and behind my head instead of under my chin. I hope my test results aren't flawed.
I’m doing it tonight 💤
How are you doing?
I my case this device is expensive to use (around $250 with $25 a day late fees) and a waste of time at the cost of a good night's sleep. I have been using a CPAP machine for over 15 years and my wife will tell any doctor, or sleep study firm, that when I do not use it, I snore loudly and stop breathing all night long. All this device will tell your doctor is you need to have a formal sleep study done. That study determines what CPAP pressure settings are necessary for you home CPAP machine and costs even more money.
MY doctor never told me there were fees for this especially late fees.. I hope you're wrong at least concerning me for the Apnea Sleep Device.
@@HoldenNY22 this is not a sleep apnea sleep device, it is a device used to monitor your sleep to determine if you have sleep apnea. If you already know you have the problem or if you are already using an existing CPAP you should be able to tell your doctor to bypass this step. In my case it was out of the doctor's control and this useless step was required by the sleep study company. It was a money maker for them so why cut it.
So u can bypass ur dr to get a cpap ? Will insurance cover it if not rx by ur dr?
Yeah, I imagine this is just a bare basic test to show if you have episodes where you stop breathing. If yes, THEN they will send you to a REAL sleep study. They dont just take peoples word for it. Even if youve had apnea for years. The REAL sleep study is way more complicated and sophisticated and has to be done by a professional sleep expert. It is also wayy more expensive than this. The real sleep study also picks up other sleep disorders, such as periodic limb movement disorder. So, if this thing shows that you have sleep apnea, youre not done. Next step is a real sleep study at a clinic. They dont take you seriously for a real study until you do this one first.
@@CluckyBaby I have heard people doing their “real” sleep study at home. In addition, the cpap device used for this purpose also measures everything this non-CPAP apena air tests for-so I will be insisting on that next, if not an option, my next step will be to select another provider in my network who follows this protocol.
No tape provided, provide some tape for us.
What if you sleep on your stomach? Will this still work??
Hi Erika, Yes it can. You could rotate the belt so the device is at your side or back. It just needs to be able to monitor your breathing. Thanks for reaching out. ResMed Customer Care
My red light attached to the finger thing never turned green. It kept flashing red. I tried to adjust the connection but there was nothing to adjust. It is attached properly. Not sure what to do.
Hello Elizabeth, Thank you for letting us know. If the light is flashing red, it may help to detach and then reattach the finger sensor and the oximeter along each connection point, then attach the belt clip to the oximeter as shown on page 4 of your guide, linked here: bit.ly/3IWVOhP If the light still does not turn green after a few moments, you may need to return your device and equipment to the person or company who provided them to you for a replacement set.
Yep. It's official...I'MMA DIE!!!!
OK folks.....Insomnia is one thing and can be different from sleep apnea (OSA). I have had 3 sleep studies complete with EEG leads to monitor REM sleep. What a pain. This would have be so much easier than the probes, wires, gel, pulse ox, and the rest. Not to mention the cost of each sleep study to diagnose Chronic OSA.
And OSA can cause Insomnia.
How much did it cost you in the hospital?
Cost me $250 about 7-10 years ago in Texas.
How do I keep this device close to my chest with this QQ girls ??? 🙄
Hi Martha, the belt should be worn above the breasts. Be careful not to overtighten the belt, as this would reduce signal quality and comfort. The belt should be secure and comfortable. Thank you for reaching out to us.
I finally did the test last night and I'm not sure if my test was successful as when I woke up this morning the top left light was red. When I tried holding the power button for 3 seconds to end the test, all 3 lights instead turned green. After doing this multiple times, I was finally able to get the green test complete light to appear. Did the test restart and erase the data from my night's sleep? I sure hope not!!! It was very uncomfortable sleeping with this through the night and I would hate to have to do the test over :-/ @ResMed
I had the same exact experience 2 nights in a row. Super frustrating to not know if this thing worked or not.
Did it work?
Wait there are comments on this 😂
i keep falling asleep!.
My test failed, will it let me do it again? I don't have to return it until Monday. I turned it off too early, it says leave it on for 6 to 8 hours. :/ I tried it again on Sat. night and it worked. Test complete! Yay!!
What if you sleep on your stomach like I do?
The best results can be achieved by sleeping on your back as the key components to the test are the cannula sitting under the nose - to ensure that the airway remains unobstructed - and the effort sensor belt around the chest that detects effort to breathe. However, you should be fine sleeping on your side or stomach, if that is what you prefer. You can rotate the belt so the device is at your side or back. It just needs to be able to monitor your breathing.
I got screwed, I got a zip lock bag instead of a nice zip up with a handle....lol
My cat lies on my chest every night so she can purr annoyingly in my face, lol. Will this affect my results? 😹
Terrible test didn't work once
I just got it watching video now let see what is next
I have mine on right now, but for some reason the tube connected to the strap is blinking red! I unplug it and turn plug it back and it’s green for 2 seconds and then it turns red again!! Ugh
Hi Dayna, It sounds like something may be wrong with the connection there. If after firmly and securely connecting the tubing, the light continues to blink red, please reach out to the sleep clinic who provided the ApneaLink device to you for further assistance and a possible replacement.
This is EXACTLY what is happening to me right now. I don’t want to waste a whole nite TRYING to do the SLEEP test. Just want to go to sleep.
Same problem with my Mom.. So I stayed awake beside her to make it green everytime it went red.. The connection is loose, I guess..
Imma cook in the studio sample my snoring
is it available in india?
Yes, If you think you may have sleep apnea, please contact your doctor or healthcare provider for further information.
