Very helpful video! I'm looking to find the determinant to calculate eigenvalues so how do you use excel to do this when you have unknowns (lambda) in your matrix.
@@crowsmathclass Yeah, I realised, but my professor has it like rectangle 6 rows and 7 columns and it works for him and he wants us to do it too, but it doesnt work for me. Could it be because he is using old excel ? I think it is 2007
@@stefanozorak3909 I just tried it in Excel 2007. It did not work. I also pulled up the help file and it says it has to be a square matrix. I don't know what he is doing. If you find out please reply and let me know. I'm curious.

I would use wxmaxima for that. Excel wouldn’t be good for that.
Hi Sir, how about determinants with unknown one variable in excel. Thanks
Thank u so much sir
very useful
Thank you. Glad it helped.
But what if I dont have the same amount of columns and rows ? I have four columns and three rows, but it says #VALUE!
You can only take the determinant of a matrix with the same number of rows and columns. It has to be a square matrix.

@@crowsmathclass Okay, Ill let you know. But it isnt like 100% that he is using excel 2007, but it is one of older excels
@@crowsmathclass It was alright, I am just dumb, I had the wrong number there, so everything is okay except me 😃😃
