  • How can you evaluate a training course?
    Dr. Donald Kirkpatrick was a university professor and former President of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). He’s known for creating the 'Four Levels' model for training-course evaluation.
    His Four Levels of Evaluation was designed as a sequence to evaluate training programs so organizations don't spend time or money on training that doesn't provide a worthwhile return.
    The first level of evaluation is REACTION: This level measures how favorably the trainees reacted to the training. Here, the trainees evaluate the instructor, the material, its presentation and the venue.
    Level two is LEARNING: This level measures what the trainees have learned.The trainer would measure these parameters against the learning objectives.
    Level 3 is BEHAVIOR: At this level, the trainer evaluates the trainees to see if they’ve changed their behavior based on the training when they’re back on the job. Specifically, it looks at how trainees have applied the information they've learned.
    Level four is RESULTS. At this level, the trainer analyzes the final results of the training by measuring the outcomes.These outcomes are measured against any criteria that the organization has determined would be good for the business, for the employees and for the bottom line.
    By analyzing each of these four levels, a trainer can gain a thorough understanding of how effective the training was and how it can be improved in the future.

    I loved the spirit of the video -- animations, info, music, everything contributed to making it succint and sort of "in your face" without being too much. Loved the sense of humor!

    The information is simple and straight forward but the background music is to jump out of the chair.

    Great idea to present this concept in just a minute, thanks! Unfortunately the annoying music gave me a headache and distracted me.

    People are complaining about the "obnoxious music" and here I am wishing that he had put brutal death metal in the background instead.

    Does anyone have any examples of format or best practices for an actual evaluation template?

    This video provides inaccurate information within the first 10 seconds. Kirkpatrick did not create the 4 Levels of Evaluation. He simply used it in his work and is credited with popularizing it.

      WRONG. It was the subject of his Ph.D. dissertation in 1954 and he published it in 1959. If he didnt create it, then who did?

      @stevealexander7772 Год назад

      @@ZeroGravityLife I recommend you actually read his publication. The first page of Kirkpatrick’s 1956 article, written three years before his 1959 introduction to the four levels, gives credit to the original author. Kirkpatrick only became famous for it when he was asked to write an article for ASTD (now ATD) in 1959.
      SPOILER Alert - Katzell developed the four steps of training evaluation; Kirkpatrick wrote about the four steps of training evaluation and popularized them; Phillips later added economic theory (Level 5)

      Also, in 2018 the Kirkpatrick Partners publicly stated that Don originally got the 4 levels from Katzell's work.
