Oh gosh! At least you weren’t hurt badly Sarah and, as you say, the van door can be fixed... it would have been awful if it had hit you or Nick, Charlie or Dizzee with full force! These storms are getting scary. Will the insurance cover your broken door? If not, and here’s an idea… we subscribers and Patreons could do a sponsor and donors can have their names decaled onto the door (like the RNLI are doing with their lifeboat in Exmouth)! Anyway, the main thing is you’re all safe & well. Thinking of you all and sending love & hugs. 🙏🏻❤️ (Jan & Turner xxxx🐾🐾)
If ever that happens again where the wind wraps your door around you can take a small block of wood or even a shoe with a thick hard sole and place it first between the door frame and the door itself by the lower hinge . Push the door as if you're trying to close it pinching the object between the door shell and frame. Repeat the process by the top hinge till the door is back far enough to close on the striker. you'll still have damage but at least you'll be able to use the door.
Good idea a towel or thick clothing can also be used in the same manner ,in strong winds the big doors on vans act like sails ,it's happened to me ,towel fixed it .hope your ok guys ,the weather's much better now .
I know it comes under the 20-20 hindsight category but that's why a step through layout from cab to living space is best. That way if it's windy you can come and go by the sliding door because even parked into the wind damage is almost inevitable. Remember that if you'd had been parked nose into the wind it could have been you that was damaged rather than the vehicle and the vehicle is easier to repair and much less painful. I've always used the sliding door in windy conditions although you still need to take account of wind direction and force or you can't push the bloody thing out to slide it back. I had that happen once and it took me ten minutes before I realised I could get out the back doors instead. Driver and passenger doors on a 3.5 tonner are quite a bit bigger in area than on a car and heavier when they hit anything. Imglad neither of you or the pooches were injured. The van will mend and you'll get over the shock, thank goodness. 🐻
Thanks! Yeah we will be using the sliding door from now on in Stormy weather for sure. We can easily get from back to front so not a problem.. We have definitely learned from this😅.. You are right, we are all ok and the van will get fixed, that is the main thing, could have been much worse xxxx
My van has door straps, they ensure the doors can only open so far and prevent it being grabbed by the wind and pulled all the way round. Common enough occurrence in Shetland.
Lovely video as always the drone shots and music perfect shame what happened in that storm hopefully your will get it sorted by next week. Good on you nick for going in Loch Ness
Our country is beautiful, you do learn to respect the every changing weather. If you're passing Perth and need anything to help with the door let me know. "Alba gu bràth"
Thank you Nick for the wonderful footage! We have spent many happy days exploring Fort Augustus and Loch Ness. Thanks for bringing me back! SO sorry you had a time with the wind, your door and Sarah getting knocked down! What an awful evening. You know I’m impressed that you didn’t edit all that out. Your authenticity is appreciated! All the best❤
Gaffer tape and a small tarpaulin - always handy things to carry. Glad you are all okay, shaken not stirred and i hope it hasnt dampened your enthusiasm for Scotland too much. Winter in UK is always going to be tricky! You really do need to get yourselves a really good weather app, one which tracks storms in real time via satellite. You can then see how fast storms are approaching, and whether they are heading the same place you are 😫 it will take out the guesswork. Safe travels
Thanks.. Yeah we have both tarp and gaffa on board.. It was the fact that the wind was so strong that driving without the door being closed properly was a scary thought.. All worked out ok that night thankfully.. We still LOVE Scotland 😊🏴
It's okay Sara, it's happened to a lot of us. I hope your hand is ok. Doors can be fixed but I can imagine how scared you were. I fell off my ebike this summer and sprained my hand...still not 100%. If your's is bothering you, get a stretchy wrap to secure it so it will heal. Stay safe.
Wow.. the fact Sarah didn't do more damage to her hand.. arm is a miracle.. the Loch Ness comes in all guises.. You are all safe.. that is what is important.. the lunch looked so delisous and healthy.. loved how the dogs snuggle up to Sarah. The fact of the skills of building the Van and calming enegery of Nick.. Sarah is in good hands. TY for a lovely Scottland journey .. we can virtually expierence.. without the mishaps. Aloha from Hawaii.. I don't think we have sea monsters.
awwwww, Thankyou so much for the kind words and glad you’ve enjoyed the Scottish adventure! It’s not quite over yet! Sending love and have a great weekend ❤😊
If you have a rope, you could tie the inside handles to the opposite door, which might have stopped the door from flying open. Scary experience 😮 drive safe. 🫶🌻🐈
Your van/home/mobile is so so cozy. Thank you Sarah for speaking ever very clearly, you are my english teacher. Thank you Nick and Sarah for a great video.❤
So pleased you are all ok. I felt for you so much Sarah & could tell you were in shock, & Nick looked so worried😢. Thank you so much for your lovely vlogs. Take care.❤❤
Hope you get the door fixed soon. We enjoy the way you both just chat about anything and look forward to the next episode wherever you are. It must have been quite a shock for you Sarah and hope your hand is ok. Take care.
❤.. Thanks for asking, our house in Spain is just fine, we live in a village on a hill so it’s ok. Feel so sorry for all the people who have been affected, so many😢😢
Awww, so sorry! Always amazing how quickly something can happen, I’m just so glad no one was badly injured. Best wishes for better days ahead. Much love to you all 💕❤️
Oh noooooo 😮. Not what I expected at all people. I'm glad you're safe, and I'm sure you'll get the door fixed even though you must be really fed-up about the damage. Glad your'e okay Sarah with no lasting injury. Safe journeying ❤
What amazing footage & editing! I’ve seen on our old work Transit the wind catch the door and bend the hinge etc, always scares me in high winds now. Glad you’re ok and managed to get it sorted. By far one of the best Van Life channels showing the beautiful side of the UK. Thanks for sharing and safe travels!
Thank goodness your all alright You were extremely lucky that door didn’t fly off and hit you Sarah could of been terrible 😞 I hope you get it fixed quickly 🙏🏻
Thanks, we’ve been checking back home and all ok with our place, so sad seeing the images on the news from the floods in Spain and hearing about it all 😢😢
Glad to hear your place in Spain is keeping fine despite much tragic flooding & slides across the nation. Valencia! Wow, that door swung hard & Sarah took a fall 😮.. R & R & repair time..lolove. Love your great works and caring ways for each in your posse. Love from Oregon, near Roseburg on a creek with our ninecanines & a big outdoor feline.
Sending you all our love. Hope your arm is not too painful. I know after a fall. Things can start to hurt. Keep warm and safe love Claire-Louise and all the disabled dogs in lincolnshire xx
Bloomin' top tip! Face the wind - I wish for your sake you'd heard that tip before the wind had a go at you. What a stressful time! Hope you find a door or get a hinge basically get sorted asap. Thanks for taking us with you, big windy hugs comin' at ya xx Brave swimming by the way wow! cold pain is so weird. And you Sarah x
Oh that was rough!! Sarah thank goodness you’re okay. And Nick what a killer job being outside working on the door. You guys are a great team who help each other and then also make fun of each other (who had the best loch swim!?!? Nobody knows!!!). Hope you heal up well from these crazy storms

Hey guys. I'm sorry about your door. I'm sorry Sarah went thru that. I know it was scary. I have a short school bus that I'm converting into an RV. My back door went thru what your door did. Now I've got it shut but I have a gap at the top of the door. I have to get the hinges fixed. Be safe so you can enjoy the rest of your trip. Hugs for youse guys and the pups.
Aww that's awful with the door, the weather in Scotland can be quite scary at times, I remember that from when we lived in Montrose, and I am Welsh, used to the wet and snow etc, but Scotland is a different level, not for the faint hearted that's for sure. So pleased you could yank the door shut to be able to drive, I remember we had a totally shattered passenger window on our travels once and we had to drive for hundreds of miles with no window at all, all the weather coming in, quite scary. Ah glad you are all okies though, what a nasty storm indeed, doubly difficult in a van I'm sure, good 'ole Lidl xxx
Lovely video sorry about your van door, what wonderful scenery .l was lucky enough to drive that two years ago and as you said it’s awesome whatever the weather 😊😊👏👏
Glad you’re all safe! I opened the rear doors of my Ducato into a strong wind coming off the sea at Flamborough a couple of years ago - was lucky to get away with it - the doors were like sails and took all my strength to hang on and get them closed. Loved the Scotland trip - was up there for 12 days a few weeks ago - leaves were just turning - got battered by midges at the fairy pools - and road to it is well pot holed … (and it was mega busy - mid September). Def recommend Mull and also Harris and Lewis if you ever get chance! Some spectacular scenery and I found the roads across the outer Hebrides to be so much quieter than Skye and the mainland! Happy travels!
There have been Soo many serious storms all over. I was watching the horrific flash flooding in Spain recently and sent a blessing to your new homestead.. 🙏 It never occured to me you would get caught up in the weather in Scotland 😮. So fortunate you did not break your arm Sarrah.. Certainly it could have been far worse. Blessing for the rest of your journey. All in all.. quite spectacular. Love you guys.❤
Last year during April May we did an 8 week tour of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides. Best holiday ever!! … I did actually add a couple of park ups to park4night on Isle of Sky, but kinda agree about the landscape of Sky. It was nice and we did plenty of walks, but it’s nothing like other parts of Scotland. Too many tourists around Loch Ness for me though, but nevertheless still worth the visit. Enjoy X
Bless you, it really isn't your fault that the van door got damaged. These things just happen, the van can get repaired, as long as you're all safe and well that's the important thing. Thanks for sharing you adventure the good and bad... Real life. ❤️
I know you guys are having a bad time with the wind in the UK. We're having probs in nz and it's Spring time . Hears there is flooding in Valencia and I 🙏 your cozy home is safe. Be safe, healthy and happy
Aww guys 😢got to think of the positive you are all okay 🙏please don’t let that put you off #Scotland am sure you wont, your footage drone shots are amazing ❤❤❤❤ # weloveyou
Glad you are safe, the van can be fixed. Please keep an eye on Spain news with lots of deaths and property damage in the area north of Andelucia. More dangerous storms expected in southwest neae Seville. Travel not recomended by Spanish authorities. Take care and stay safe!

Thanks Nick and Sarah, another lovely video. Nick your edtiting skills are fab, the link between the image and the musicality are great. Apologies Sarah if you edit stuff too 😅. So glad you're both safe and sound in the end. Sarah was so lucky not to be badly injured, but you could see how shaken up she was. Take care and looking forward to the next instalment.....
I went to Loch Ness in 1980s I was 16 years old am now 58 years old and I loved it I went with my mam and dad and the dog 🐕 🐾🐾 love your channel and the little pups🐾🐾
What a nasty shock even the doggies looked worried. I do hope you can get this fixed without any problems. Take good care of yourselves and be safe ❤ xx
The main thing is that you both and the dogs are safe. I'm glad you are not hurt. Stay safe, guys. Big hugs.
Thanks Caroline.. Was scary but we’re all ok and safe and as you say this is the main thing, van will get fixed 😊❤
@theexPAWers Same happened to me, but with the car. That was scary enough. It can easily happen. Don't blame yourself. Shit happens, as they say. 🥰
Oh gosh! At least you weren’t hurt badly Sarah and, as you say, the van door can be fixed... it would have been awful if it had hit you or Nick, Charlie or Dizzee with full force! @@janl7552❤❤.. Thanks Jan.. It will be ok. We have a friend who is going to help fix the door with us😊.. Sending love to you xxx
Van can be fixed🙁👍💪as long as all 4 of you are ok❤️🐶🐶❤️

Thanks.. Hopefully this is the first and last time this will happen, very scary! From now on we will just not open the side door in strong winds😅 xx
That's what they do in the factory to make the doors fit.
Really sorry to hear your misfortune, pleased that neither of you were serious hurt, your van can be repaired, take care.
Thanks Phillip.. Yes could have been far worse.. Taught us a lesson that’s for sure😅 xx
In Fort William there is Neptune’s Fortune, it has 8 locks and takes 90 minutes to get through it
How scary, so lucky to have not been badly hurt sarah. Glad you made it through the storm, I know it doesn’t help but the van can be fixed.
Thanks Donna❤.. Yes the van can be fixed and we’re grateful that we’re all safe❤ have a lovely weekend xx
As long as you and the doggies are safe, that's all that matters. It did look bloody awful. Sending lots of love to you all. xXx
Thankyou so much, we’re all fine so yes that’s the main thing❤️ x

it broke
@@alanhat5252 The hinge broke, there wasn't straps only on older vans.
My old Bedford had them.
@galdessa1 you retro fit them, only takes an hour. Simple fix to prevent it from happening.
Think this is a good idea especially living where you do! It’s so easy for this to happen in a storm😅
Guys , I do lots of work with Fiat , make sure you change your engine oil using the correct grade on a regular basis .
Yes.. Thanks. We will be doing this before we leave the UK 😊
@ honestly guys it is so important on the Fiat engine
There was a storm warning and everyone was told to stay indoors, so we went shopping and...

As a fellow stealth car camper, I recommend my solution for everything, gaffer tape.
not really a solution for the raw sewage you find around "stealth campers"
😂😂.. Can’t beat abit of of gaffer tape😅
It's the most important item for everything
Gaffa tape, for things which shouldn't move but do.....and WD40, for things that should move but done. Add an assortment of bungy straps, a few bent keys and mangle spanners and you have an emergency repair kit for most situations. 😆
And cable ties.
Glad your all ok. Doors can be fixed
❤luckily you all🐶🐶are save , first think of yourself !! we love the beautiful drone shots and wat a great music 🎵, be strong 💪 guys 😘

Happy travels!
How scary! Things can happen so fast. I love how the dogs listen to the stories..lol.
Take care and hope you have a better week.
So sorry to hear about the accident, happy that Sara wasn't hurt to badly.Take care
Thankyou so much ❤️ x
Last year during April May we did an 8 week tour of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides. Best holiday ever!! … I did actually add a couple of park ups to park4night on Isle of Sky, but kinda agree about the landscape of Sky. It was nice and we did plenty of walks, but it’s nothing like other parts of Scotland. Too many tourists around Loch Ness for me though, but nevertheless still worth the visit. Enjoy X
Isn’t Scotland just amazing! Thanks so much for watching..😁
