First-time viewer. I find the harsh chops/edits to be jarring and seem to mess up the flow of the show. It really decreases the watchability. I assume they are mainly removing dead air for an audio podcast but it makes for a ruff watch. Great show!
Will do for next week's episode! This is our 190th episode of the podcast, but only the second one with video 😁 We'll get it all dialed in. Appreciate the feedback!
42:11. Really??? Cause there is a lot of video showing that you can't watch videos on the plane with an MQ3. The screen flys away when the plane starts moving. Of course, that's assuming you can stand to be in the MQ3 to do anything in the first place.
Also, when most people are looking at that eye watering $3,500 price deciding between this headset and rent or child payment .... Yup, rather go with rent or child payment! lol This is definitely NOT a mass consumer product, that'd be with one less zero at the end, more like $350. ;D
@@BillAnt Ok? I keep seeing this sort of comment. Do you think every product launch has to be for everyone? They usually aren't. Most cutting edge products start out super expensive, and feature poor, and improve over time and come down in price. I'm simply pointing out that the MQ3 is a flaming pile. I bought one just so I could compare it to the VP, and I can't stand to be in it for more than a few minutes at a time, and then I have to rest and recover for hours to stop feeling sick (not a problem I have with Light House based VR), because the tracking is utterly terrible (to say nothing of the rest of the utterly janky experience). I haven't gotten my VP yet, but people keep offering up the MQ3 as the obvious alternative, but you'd be better off with nothing rather than buying the MQ3. Now does that mean most people can afford the VP? No, but that doesn't magically make the MQ3 good.
You are right. They are working on an airplane mode, but it doesnt work on a plane. I tried using mine on a plane, and my menu would sink into the floor and float behind me quite quick. It would then lose tracking and disable it for a bit, and I could load a browser and have it stay for a bit, but had to stay in passthrough. Unfortunately, I couldnt load amazon prime as it required internet and wouldn’t work with plane internet (just to open. I had downloaded videos), and I couldn’t get any of my stuff to work with it. It was frustratingly bad. I was so excited for the flight to Japan, thinking “im gonna chill in a virtual theater and watch some movies!” But nope… Cant wait for Vision Pro! Will be a far superior experience for media consumption. Keeping my quest for VR games.
@@bujin5455 - Unfortunately (or fortunately lol) most consumers are weary and uncomfortable wearing something on their heads regardless of the cost of the headset. The best and most successful products are the ones which are the least obtrusive and easiest to use at an affordable price level.
I’ll say this. The reason for all the questions about use case is because of the cost. If this thing was $1k to $1500, it would be a day one buy for a lot of people! With that said, Apple is working on a cheaper model. The problem for a lot of people is that it won’t be no less than $2k starting with $200 increments for storage. I’m cool with that though for all it does. People act like they aren’t paying $1500 for an iPad in some cases and all they’re doing is browsing the web and watching movies. This thing pretty much is replacing your iPad while giving you much more! I would rather have a $2k VP and my phone and not own an iPad!
I wonder what editing spatial video in Final Cut on the Vision Pro will be like. Although initially the Vision Pro doesn’t have many apps or features that make me say “I need it” I still see that this can be huge in the near future. I’m really looking forward to where the whole spatial computing space goes.
I’m wondering the same. If I can have a huge timeline in front of me, and it’s easy to manipulate and edit on it, that will be a killer feature for me!
Btw you can only watch movies in a Quest if the plane isn't accelerating. Otherwise the interface is thrown in the opposite direction. Meta is "working on it". Ona different note, watching a movie on a 120" screen on a plane in full 3d is a significantly different experience than watching on an iPad. There's no glare. You're not worried about people seeing what you're watching. With good pair of noise cancelling headsets you can literally tune the plane out.
First time watching, which is insane because I’ve been a long time fan of everyone involved. Listening to this conversation as I fly from London to California to pick up the hardware. This will be my movie playing machine, and whilst that won’t be enough for the majority it will be enough for me. HFR support is going to be huge when paired with 4K and 3D, and immersive sports broadcasts will be awesome based on demos in June. My question is, what would you be willing to pay? What price would you expect teams and leagues to infinitely resell virtual seats for?
Well, I’m sure as heck not gonna pay the same price for a virtual sat as I would in person. Maybe a good start would be to offer limited games with the existing season subs and special prices similar to movie rentals for other big games.
Do you have a US App Store account, or are you gonna have to create something new? The immersive seats question is a good one - they way I've been thinking about it is like watching TV. It should be part of my cable/subscription package. However if it is truly immersive, and let's me kind of move around the arena to pick my seat (mid-field, end zone, behind the net, etc.) that could be more interesting and be worth additional money. How much? That I'm not sure yet!
@@Andru I have a US account from when I lived out there. Something I learned real quick is that you need a US account so get the full experience offers by most US based companies. Also, early movies, Movies Anywhere, and digital codes haha
36:49 I think the ground breaking feature is the eye tracking and the fact you don't need a controller to operate the headset. I think that is the pinch to zoom feature. Cuz I don't think anyone else is doing that right now.
Quest 3 has come a long way already. I never use controllers unless I'm gaming. At work I don't even have monitors anymore I just use my quest. I'm not lying when I say that the vision pro does not impress me at all. I can do everything already.
42:00. 100%. I bought a MQ3 for the express purpose of comparing it to the VP, and everything about the MQ3 experience is utterly terrible. Setting the thing up is done on the phone, but I need to see things in the headset, but the camera's aren't good enough to read the phone, so you have to keep taking the headset off and on, over and over and over, while setting it up. Everything is janky as all get out. The hand tracking is terrible. If you put down the controllers while watching a video, you're then groping blind looking for them, or you're forced to take the headset off again. I have a lot of PC VR experience, using the HTC Vive, Vive Pro, and Index, no issues. But I can't use the MQ3 for more than 10 minutes without getting sick, and it takes hours for it to wear off. And it doesn't matter what I'm doing, watching video, looking at the video passthrough, navigating menus, playing a game, about 10 minutes and I need to leave, and it's multiple hours until I can return. Why, because the MQ3's tracking is utterly inconsistent, whether it's head tracking, or hand tracking, and the nervous system isn't about it.
I advise everyone to get a quest 3 and I would have never said that before but I was blown away at the picture quality and true blacks! In my eyes it’s crystal clear and having only used PSVR and PSVR2 I can say it’s the best consumer headset i have tried so far! Also the hand tracking works perfect even though I never use it!
31:08. Talking about double talk. What's new? With the Apple Watch it was notifications on your wrist? ...As apposed to your phone? Ok, so the VP is super high fidelity videos that block out your surroundings on the plane, verses watching a video on your iPad. Same difference.
Honestly this screams expensive content consumption device. I think that just like with gaming, apple is gonna need to put some HUGE HUGE Dollar Bills into developers pockets to get a good ecosystem off the ground.
35:44. "What was the iPhone's killer use case?" "Multi touch." What? That's not a use case, that's an input mechanism. That would be like saying the Vision Pro's killer use case is eye and hand tracking. Gees, this guy is the master of shallow responses. Every comment has been a floater.
I cant wait to watch Monarch in Vision Pro! Along with a lot of other content! And for long flights or just to use around the house when I dont want to plug into an outlet, I bought a battery bank that can output 100w (this only needs 30 based on its power brick), and is 25000mah. The Vision Pro runs for 2-3 hours on 3160 mah, so with this battery bank added to that, Im getting like 18-28 hours of battery life, with those two batteries combined.
@@Andru LOL yes it was Xbox 360 - it’s since been ported onto pretty much all consoles. Still a really fun game to play. Especially on a Nintendo switch or other portable steam deck types of devices

I appreciate this feedback! Next week we'll try a different approach for the video (you're correct about editing for audio!)
