This is my song for when my big brother disappears for weeks at a time in a relapse binge. He only ever goes a few weeks sober at the most. He has to live in faraway cities, because he has to find new group homes where bridges haven't already been burnt. There is always a phone call from the hospital with a lie to explain the absence of contact.Today is his birthday, and the song is especially relevant. I don't think he'll ever get free. One day the phone call will come from the coroner.
I am an addict, but also the son of an addict, and the brother of an addict; my mother and brother both passed away from addiction. This song has helped me both mourn those I've lost as well as aspire to be better myself. I haven't gotten there yet, but when I come back to this song it's a reminder of how my addiction has harmed those I loved. I love this live version so much. Thank you for uploading it.
This reminds me of the friends that I pushed away that truly matter to me over the last decade of my addiction and homelessness, all if it. I suppose at the start it was not wanting to involve or bother them with my pain and dysfunction but then theres a fulcrum wherechasms so deep you don't know what to say anymore but if you could explain it you might just feel something like warmth but to put the burden out there,then the guilt would overwhelm you... But maybe someday. sorry my lived ones truly I'm trying
