Ryan graduated from the school of face-melting magna cum laude. Love how the rhythm section swings so hard and interacts with him. Dave, you are an inspiration as a performer and pedagogue. Thank you for sharing!
This is an incredible revival of John Coltrane spirit. Some try to cover him, you 5 are really going deep in his spirit. Sax’s are sounding as unknown instruments ! Thank you for this moment out of time.
Proud to say I Know Dom and Mike Bond. I also had the wonderful opportunity of playing with Dezron my first year at Rutgers. Incredible musicians one and all, thank you for sharing the fire maestro Dave!! Epic!!
Man, the energy is real🔥 Can feel the joy of each musician when they were communicating and supporting each other with tension and rhythm wise. It's something out of this world to see Ryan Devlin going beyond the diatonic sound with the hip modern contemporary lines. I really like the composition. It reminds me of "A Love Supreme" 's vibe and love ur quotes from Coltrane free jazz's work, Mr. Pollack
Absolutely icredible playing by everyone here! I'm just a flithy casual but you guys inspire me to practice and improve. Even if I had a small fraction of the talent displayed here (that would be a lot by the way) I would be overjoyed.
Been familiar with your playing for a while Dave, this was a great concert and would have been even better live! Thanks for introducing me to Ryan’s playing! Definitely someone I need to check out more of!
This makes me want to go home and shed this later. It was definitely hard not to bump this really hard in a middle of a Lowe's btw. This isn't Ryan's channel but I'll still say it. Man, Ryan was like the first cat I listened to when I started 4 years ago. The first standard I ever learned how to play was "In a Sentimental Mood" and I learned it because a senior was playing it before I started playing and I loved it since. I looked up videos of someone playing it and Ryan's vid from when he was in highschool was my favorite. So watching him play took me back. Good stuff everyone for sure tho.💯
Does anyone else recognize this as a piece called Freedom Jazz Dance as an alternative title? I learned this years ago by that name after hearing it played by Phil Woods and the European Rhythm Machine sometime in the late 1960"s. I could be wrong, I' m old:-)
It’s an Eddie Harris composition covered by many people during that time frame. It’s a different tune but it does share the modal aspect as far as the solo changes are concerned so I get why you would make the correlation
I really wish the drummer was "broader" and would "self-edit" a bit more. Other than that it just missed a bit more cowbell and a blues lick or two. JK of course, great playing by all!
Can you please define playing off? You can criticize his playing style (it's a matter of taste), but it's certainly not automatic. I'd say Ryan listens a little too much Brecker (for my taste) but his lines sound very intentional and thought out.
This whole show was full of immense energy and great playing from everybody! Such a joy to hear first class music like this.
I listen to this in the morning instead of drinking caffeine

I don’t see any stickers on Ryan’s horn what gives?
He’s young and just doesn’t know how things work yet
@@DavePollack lol, too funny!
i love how he is sticking with the stickers
I legit love them - it’s not a bit, haha
@@DavePollack ur a beast. It’s so funny live, cause you’re in a suit, and then it’s just a Kenny G picture lol.
Man what a show this was so glad I could make it virtually. It really made my night :)
That’s so great to hear!! Thanks so much for the support
Yes indeed 🔥
Maaan you sounded SO good!!!! Absolute heat.
A lesson on developing ideas 🤯 your solo is nothing short of genius
And of course Ryan is bringing that energy and technique as always
Wow - i really appreciate that!
I'm in the process of transposing this. Pure GOLD. I've got the first measure completed already.
Let me know when you finish it!
holy cow, Ryan is so f******** good. This quintet is fire....

15:00 a love supreme!
at 7:27 already :)
These guys are next level. And the tenor player, talk about intensity ❤
9:22 - 9:26 🔥🔥🔥 I love how the 🥁 picked up on the 🎹's rhythms
The drum solo !!!!!!!!
My goodness Dom is really good and clean !!!
Creative !!!!
As a young "jazz" drummer I've to admit that i'm impressed by Dom.
Dude on tenor is like Michael Brecker reborn. Nice.
I commented too soon.... also heard the alto solo....AWESOME....
A Love Supreme quotes make my day
fantastic tenor solo!! I also play tenor and have messed with this tune and it wears me out! Great job hanging in there for so many bars.

You know it's a freaking fire group when the band leader can barely breath at the end of the tune
Yikes!!🔥🔥🔥🔥 the energy, the synergy, all on point. Definitely worth a whole 19min listening to. Bravo👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Wow - thanks so much! Just keep at it - we’re all on different points of our own paths.
Awesome!! Definitely THROUGH THE ROOF! (piano & alto "--A Love Supreme--" phrases)

Thanks so much!! Yeah Ryan is a monster player
Love that bass player.
Right at the start of Mike’s solo I got the ad of the dude playing twinkle twinkle as a blues 😩😩😩
Ahhhh I thought I turned off all midroll ads??? It's probably because this video got a copyright claim, so RUclips put it's own ads where it wanted🤬

Hell yeah! You two together is some 🔥🔥

Devlin playin one Coltrane lick after another, way to go
You don’t know what train sounds like then
The sink in my kitchen just gurgled and belched and the water ran.
Huh?
dam i didn't know markiplier was that good at piano
I'm surprised there's not smokes coming out of the tips of the sticks.
Just discovered this, absolutely wild, like holy shit wooah need a cigarette
I would think it was Coltrane himself playing from 14:30 on if I didn't know better.
fr coltrane on alto
Oh that's why it sounds so awful. He's imitating Coltrane.

Thank G_D the drummer plays inside....
Missing some cowbell in there :)
the dislikes on this video are people who stick to classical music
I'm going to pay if i can get the whole thing. Just let me know
No need to pay - just send me an email!
Ryan machine gun
great ! Am I the only one who thinks the bass is a bit tuned down in the mix ? I have hard time hearing it
Can I take a breath now?
no
Wrong notes at the right time...
Does the pianist remind anyone else of markiplier?
Todo idéntico y refrito. Nada nuevo.
sometimes “playing off” sounds great. When its all you do, it sounds bad. @Ryan Devlin
"playing off" ........ if you're going to criticize him, at least use the correct terminology 😂
This is the best compliment I’ve ever gotten. Thank you Bob!
Ryan - 2nd best. Our buddy DJ gave you the best comments 😉

@@sergej100qca4 there is no such thing as “too much Brecker”
