I find it odd that in today's kitchen (and presumably the kitchen of the future) there is so much emphasis on providing spaces for all our gadgets (mainly small appliances that only do one thing) and charging stations for our electronics and yet everyone forgets the broom/cleaning supply closet. You mentioned that maybe in the future you'll focus more on including a dedicated space for cleaning supplies but a broom/cleaning supply closet was a standard feature in every home before the 1990's. I mean, if you don't have a dedicated space, where do you keep your broom, or mop, or vacuum cleaner?
I'm 5 feet tall and planning my kitchen remodel. I really want the built-in hidden stepstool as well as toe-kick steps (not storage). I can't afford them everywhere, so I'm trying to plan carefully to place them where needed.
I will have side and front access to our 72" Lauder. We're putting a 6" space behind to store the broom/mop/step stool. Narrow swing door to cover. Hooks and cubbies inside the door for the little stuff.
Having just spent $3400 updating 3 - yes, only 3 - outlets in my kitchen after one caught fire due to aluminum wiring improperly connected to copper, I’m wishing my early 70’s kitchen just had more outlets, hidden or not!
Thank you for your videos! We remodel the family farmhouse next year: an 1890s build with multigenerational renos. Its a terrifying mix of decades in there, but i feel more prepared to think through options with your videos. Thanks!
Put me down for somewhere to store a broom. But regarding trends...I am seeing more kitchen tables in the kitchen, are we moving away from sitting at islands?
Interesting to note that height-adjustable work surfaces haven't made the list of accessibility features in a kitchen yet. A thought: The fridge can't go right against a wall because it needs space for the door to open, but it needs to go at the end of a run of kitchen so it's not breaking up the space and it needs to be close to the door so kids can come in and get a drink without getting in the way of serious cooking. So it wants to be against the wall, but not against the wall. Could I put a very narrow full height pull-out unit between the fridge and the wall, like a pull-out pantry but just wide enough to hold a broom and a stepladder? I'm thinking it would use the space between the fridge and the wall in a way that wouldn't interfere with opening the fridge door. Would it be possible to still have good ventilation around the fridge with such a fitting beside it?
I prefer the blind corner IF you are using a corner cabinet. Some people do not want to block off a corner. If you are ok with blocking a corner, then I much prefer to go that route in most cases.
Your take on the charging stations is right on!👍
Thanks Liz! They look cool, but....

They look really handy. Definietly add at least one!

Yes! The more outlets the better. I agree.

Awesome! Glad my content is helpful. I hope your renovation is a huge success!

Someone should have said something about beverage refrigerators. Every single person I know who has remodeled their kitchen has added one of those.
Really great input. I'm prepping a video on accessories that should be added and I think this would be a great one to add. Thanks!!

Hi there. Off topic but may I ask color of that lovely blue wall behind you? It has a perfect amount of depth and glow.
Shoot! I actually can't remember the name. It's a Sherwin Williams color, but that's about all I can give you. Glad you like it though!
