I was shocked and surprised I hope that they bring Rockingham back next. Can't wait to see my 1st race at North Wilkesboro next year via the all star race.
The Rock is actually in much better shape than North Wilkesboro Speedway was in! It’s definitely refurbishment-ready…and it’s as vital to the historical aspect of the sport as NWS is…
@@twoblacklabs904 actually it was in pretty bad shape too. Another investor bought it and fixed it up. It still needs some work to be Nascar Cup ready but it's another great track for this!
This is honestly a great move by NASCAR. I am making a hefty donation just to be sure I’m getting my tickets! As a new fan from NC Having had stopped by the track every trip to the mountains I go to, I can’t wait for this race!
I just turned 55 this week and Nascar has given me the best birthday week ever. 1st Erik Jones wins Darlington and today this comes out. I am one of the long time fans of North Wilksboro Speedway having spent my entire childhood there. 23 years I did not miss a race there. I was born about 19 miles from the track and started going there when I was about 6 or 7 years old. What a week.
Lucky! I was born in December of 96 so I never got to see a race there live. I've watched full race replays and stuff. My family couldn't care less about racing and Nascar but ever since I can remember, I had nascar toys and diecasts and for an elementary career day, I dressed up as a Nascar driver.
@@rwfracing I don't know if I'll make it there or not. I'm going to Bristol next week and trying to do my first Daytona 500 next year. But I'd love to go especially cause I know the FOX broadcast will be pathetic.

This makes me so happy to see!! I was a VERY young Jeff Gordon fan when I watched him win the last Cup race at North Wilkesboro. I was sad to see the old track fall into disrepair like it has over the last 2 decades. Now, Im begging my wife to take a trip to Antioch, NC next summer!!
Thank Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the good folks at iRacing/Papyrus Games for scanning North Wilkesboro back in 2019 and renewing interest in this “hallowed ground.” This announcement is GREAT NEWS for Wilkes Co.
The new Nascar drive stuff is the new version of Nascar-in car of the 2000's, which is cool but I hope they include telemetry data as well (rpms, throttle and brake input.etc)
Dale Jr deserves so much credit for this. I vaguely remember watching the last North Wilkesboro race, I was 12 maybe, and I'm not one for nostalgia and such but this is an exciting move for Nascar to return to the grassroots short tracks that are the foundation of the sport.
I live in Wilkesboro and this is wonderful for the area. I can’t explain to you how much this means to us here. I’m 62 and I prayed I would see the cup cars back here before I pass on. I hope I live another year to see it. Now to get tickets. That’s going to be hard. I could go on and talk to you about what it was like last Wednesday night. The crowed reminded me of the first all star race under the lights at Charlotte. That was such a special night as I feel last Thursday was just as well. We are hungry for racing.
@Dyslexic Batnam Have you seen any of the Xfinity? I've been watching the extended highlights most weeks and that series has been even crazier! I came back to NASCAR in 2020.
@Dyslexic Batnam i highly suggest that you watch and follow Xfinity more, that series has been amazing the last few years. I've been watching it extra close this year and last year cause Dinger's been a Championship contender
Eric if you were a true reporter you would have been at North Wilkesboro speedway for the Cars Tour, maybe then you would have realized what Wilkesboro means to the people of the area. Every store I went to the locals thanked me for coming to the race track. The track means so much to the community. The local food venders were fantastic. Yes we had to use porta- John's but I have never in my life used a porta-john that was as clean as these were they never ever had a bad smell I think they were cleaned 3 times a day. The people of North Wilkesboro deserves this just as much as the loyal fans. Thank you people of North Wilkesboro for being so appreciative to your fans, even if I am a Yankee from Northwest Ohio!!!
While I am not the biggest fan of the All Star race, as a North Carolinian, I could not be happier to see the race coming to North Wilkesboro. A lot of effort has gone into bringing the track back to life, (thank you Dale Jr.), and yes, I will actually watch the race.
I am old enough - almost 63 - to remember when it North Wilkesboro held its two years Cup races, and they were always entertaining. The slight downhill front stretch and uphill back stretch made it unique. Very view of the current Cup drivers drove there, certainly not in a Cup car, but Ryan Blaney did when he was just a kid about eleven years ago. It was a mistake of the Smith's to ever move the dates away.
This is great! I always thought the place would come back with the right people in charge, but never thought Nascar would go this far. I expected she would come back as a regular weekend local track and possibly get an ARCA or truck series weekend. Very pleasant surprise!
They should tour the all star race - Chicagoland, rockingham, Nashville fairgrounds, maybe even one of the road courses they normally don’t visit - Canadian tire Motorsport park
On DBC this week, they talked a lot about Dale Jr's race and how tire management was so critical to him placing third. I am excited that they decided not to repave the track and make tire wear such a critical part of the race. This is all such great news. Eric, you do a great job of covering the sport.
I was 2 years old when North Wilkesboro had its final cup race. Im 27 and very much am on the historic side of the fan base even tho I wasn’t around for it. I’ll be making the trip from Canada to see this all star race. This is the greatest nascar news in years by far 🇨🇦🍻

I'm in a similar situation, never having seen a race at North Wilkesboro live, but I do have a bit of a connection to North Wilkesboro, having raced there in the original NASCAR Racing game from Papyrus. I'm excited.
This is definitely awesome. A huge move by NASCAR that I think for once excited everyone - and man that's hard to do. Also... Throwback weekend at Darlington, followed by the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro, followed by the Coca-Cola 600. What a stretch that should be!
This is the greatest comeback story in all sports honestly. The savethespeedway movement stayed strong for a decade even through the times of absolute somberness, and nascar finally listened and not just that but it replaced Texas. The speedway is officially saved, and it’s finally back. Greatest racing news I’ve heard all year!
I think this will be done by steps. They will work the things needed (let's face it, it was closed for a quarter of century), host the All Star, get trucks and Xfinity and this can lead to Cup if the reaction is good
@@81casperflip They likely won't have enough seats and facilities to host a points race. Like said above, maybe in a few years, but they might not want to invest in Cup-level seating until/if they are promised a race. I bet Tony Stewart takes SRX there next summer!
I think NASCAR is trying to appeal to a broader fan base, and it is widely known most die-hard fans were not fans of the over-saturation of cookie cutter tracks that kind of took over. This will bring some traditional and older fans back around possibly. The road courses have brought in a lot of fans from outside of NASCAR who wouldn't watch it because of the lack of it. I am only 37, but I started watching when I was a toddler ya know. I love the changes they are making. I am a huge advocate of short track racing as Langley Speedway is my local track here in VA. I remember when I was probably 10(before you were born,) going to Richmond with my dad and not knowing he didn't have tickets and he had to buy them from a scalper in the parking lot. I have to say that I love this. I saw the Wilksboro Race with late models was incredible. I look forward to that change and I will make sure not to miss. The addition of cameras and protection for the drivers is good and needed.
North wilkesboro has finally got its justice and vengeance over texas motor speedway. It took over a quarter of a century to do it, but I'm absolutely thrilled to see this one short track racing monument come back. I've seen lots of old racing broadcasts on the track, whilst all of them were televised by ESPN, and I can say, the racing was awesome. I sense the racing will still be just as good if not better, it'll certainly be better than what Texas has given us the past couple of years, sorry Eric.
I love the idea of the All Star race being the test before adding a track to the schedule. a sort of, if you can show. out for this date then we can discuss coming back
That camera thing is SWEET, yeah North Wilkesboro coming back is great and all, but I'm 15, born in 2007, more than a decade after it lost its dates. I have less of a connection than Eric has. But I'm super excited for the cameras
I want to see Ned Jarrett and/or Jeff Gordon join the booth for that race (if possible), seeing as Jarrett was in the booth at the 1996 race and Gordon won it. I feel it would be very fitting
Please NASCAR, don’t muck up this race with 10 segments and all kinds of crazy rules and things. If we’re going back to our roots, please do it the right way 🙏🏼
I was watching the Darlington race on Sunday with my friends and I called that Wilkesboro was gonna come back as the All-Star race I just think it’s crazy how quick my prediction got proven right
I remember that 1996 race it was the saddest day of NASCAR history I'm glad he brought it back no folks bro and I'm glad it's back and I hope the racing is fun
As soon as I can, I'm going to get tickets to the All Star Race. The challenge was laid down, if we come it's got to make money, and as someone who has wanted North Wilkesboro back for years, I excited to be able to go. NASCAR for it's part is doing it's best to be proactive, unlike many stick and ball sports in terms of keep itself realivant. They don't have an easy task trying to draw in new fans while not alienating older ones. Me, I've been around since the late '80s and while I don't like a lot what NASCAR tried to do, I understand that its in an attempt to draw in new fans, so I have to adapt a little myself.
When I saw this announcement a few hours ago I almost jumped out of my window and screamed to the world the All Star Race. Gosh what a great move by NASCAR, making the wait for the schedule release a lot better.. still want that schedule though!
The Nascar app is great....LOVE THE SCANNER FEATURE LIKE HAVING RE RADIO AT TRACK!!! NOW HAVING EVERY DRIVER HAVE AN N CAR CAMERA INSTEAD OF JUST 4 OR 5 IS A GREAT MOVE!!!
The one race I remember is the 96 one which was the last one and I was like 6 years old watching a 96’ year in review VHS. I never thought we’d see the day it came back.
I'm happy for North Wilkesboro. As a fan from Wisconsin, I hope one day the Milwaukee Mile returns to NASCAR in some capacity. I've always wanted to see a race there but I was only 6 years old when the Nationwide series raced there
Hey Eric im sure North Wilkesboro and NASCAR will work out all the other logistics and stands and lights and scoreboards and bathrooms and etc. out by the time next may comes around
I'm no expert on the cup tires, but last Wednesday after 75 laps the tires were checking less than 1/32 on both cars I was on and many others that I talked to (they start with a little over 6/32). This was the most abrasive surface I have seen in 20 years, even more than Myrtle Beach. If someone goes hard for 10 laps they will kill their tires so look for alot of passing.
As somebody who lives in Wilkes county and was devastated when they took our race from us I'm so happy right now you truly truly don't understand the impact that this will make on this community. I have said for years we would just be happy if we could get the trucks back but this having cup cars and the All-Star race this is going to be huge bigger than anything possibly that's ever happened in this county. I was at the race the other night 18,000 people doesn't touch it I believe it was closer to 20 to 25,000 I've never seen that many people there for any race and I'm excited to see what happens at the All-Star race.
With TMS management saying they'll "blow it up", do you think they'll turn it into another mini superspeedway (ala Atlanta) or will they make it a roval course? I hope it's the latter because Indycar racing there has been exciting in recent times and it'll be a shame to lose TMS from the Indy schedule.
This is huge news! I grew up within 2 hours of Charlotte, North Wilkesboro and Rockingham. We went to all three venues every year. This will be a phenomenal event.
This is the upload I have been waiting for since hearing about the possibility of the all star race. I'm so stoked for this I hate Texas it's been one of my least favorite tracks for a long time now. I was born in 88 and I still remember watching the last race at Wilkesboro I'm so glad it's coming back
💯 like you...middle of the line. Really loving the progress nascar has made in both directions over the past 10 years being a diehard fan of 22 years now...and in the time probably only missed watching 15 races lol
i did not realize that im 4 years older then you but happy us youngins are still interested in this sport. i have 2 kids 5 and 2 and exposing them to nascar to keep my family a nascar fan family
I think everybody is going to be trying to get a ticket to this race. I'm from Montana and the moment that it comes out I will do everything I can to get a ticket. They listened to us I can't believe it
Yes make it accessible. I talked to a ticket salesperson and the Chicago road course is a minimum of 2 tickets. 250 down for each ticket with the cheapest ticket at 800 something.
Being born 97 when I got older I’d loved to seen one of the races at Wilksboro wish I could of went last week see JR race but I’ll definitely try to the all star race.
Now we know why they didn't release next year schedule. Also the All Star race will be on my birthday so as a huge NASCAR fan though I wasn't a really NASCAR fan until about 15 years I was born in '95 so North Wilkesboro. Like you something of history.
I found out early this morning when deciding to check next year's schedule updates and instantly saw North Wilkesboro...what?! I watched the last race there and glad to see it make a return.
I would think NASCAR will expand the place, even if it's just temporary seating. They know how much those tickets are going to be worth. I would think they will add permanent lighting for sure. I heard they wanted to keep those old walls for nostalgia, so it will be interesting to see what happens with the safer barriers.

That's going to be fun to watch . Thank you for the. Updates. . have a great weekend. Eric. Enjoy the. Races. At. Kansas. We have. Xfinity. Cup and trucks. This week. . stay safe. .
Well, I have to say once again that I'm really excited about North Wilkesboro hosting the All-Star Race next year because I've been saying that North Wilkesboro would be a great host for the event if it doesn't return to Charlotte ever and now, it's going to become a reality next year even though I would like the All-Star Race on Saturday night and the Open on Friday night and hopefully, we could see the truck series race there next year as well, maybe on Friday night during the weekend the sport goes to the Charlotte Roval. Also, while we'll have to wait and see what the format will be for the event, here's my idea for the Open and the All-Star Race: 1st, for the Open, while it would remain a 50-lap race, the 2 drivers who finish 1-2 in the first two 20-lap segments will advance to the All-Star Race and in the final 10-lap segment, the driver who finishes 1st will advance while the fan vote winner would be announced on the Monday or Wednesday edition of Racehub or after the Open is over and 2nd, for the All-Star Race, it would be 100 laps with 2 25-lap segments, followed by 2 20-lap segments and here's what will happen for the final 10-lap segment: The 4 drivers who were in front at the end of each of the first four segments would line up 1-4 for the final 10 laps, but before the final segment got underway, those 4 drivers would come down pit road by themselves for a mandatory 4-tire pit stop before they lined up 1-4 and on the next lap, the remainder of the field would come down pit road for a mandatory pit stop to see where they'll line up behind those 4 drivers for the final 10 laps. However, if there aren't 4 different drivers leading at the end of the first four segments, then the entire field will come down for a mandatory pit stop and the race off pit road will set the lineup for the final 10 laps and for the final segment, when the race reaches 2 laps to go, if the caution comes out before the leader takes the white flag, then the race goes into overtime and this would be the same for the final segment of the Open. All-in-all, in the end, I'm super excited to see North Wilkesboro host the All-Star Race next year and I look forward to seeing them put on a show, so until then, goodbye!
North Wilkesboro taking the all star race from Texas is such a full circle revenge story arc
Sweet, sweet revenge for North Wilkesboro.
Denny Delivers! A classic of the out of the groove content section :)

Please NASCAR, don’t muck up this race with 10 segments and all kinds of crazy rules and things. If we’re going back to our roots, please do it the right way 🙏🏼
They can't help themselves.
20-30-150 is what they should do
Ehh at this point you askin too much. Not even 4 years ago all hope was lost for this track to return to nascar
Nah they're gonna keep the mandatory cautions. Those will never go away
Great comment
Some of the best news all year!! I was born in 2000 and even I feel the history being revived. Great reasons to smile as a race fan today
Thank god now it’s impossible to miss a wreck with the full field with on-board cameras
I was watching the Darlington race on Sunday with my friends and I called that Wilkesboro was gonna come back as the All-Star race I just think it’s crazy how quick my prediction got proven right
I love this announcement. I would like to see more of the grassroots tracks on the schedule, especially some with some dirt on them!
I was kinda sad today due to Queens passing away, now my frown has turned upside down. Thank you NASCAR. No more sadness today.
your telling me, I was born In 1998, so this is going to be a first for to watch a cup race in north wilkesboro.
This is really cool, the fact that we will have a race at north wilkesboro is amazing, hope I puts on a great show
Don't forget Slapshoes who helped kick off the Save the Speedway campaign
Nice to have a different track n not a damn roadcourse
Awards show will be back in Nashville also
I'm happy for North Wilkesboro.
I’m a young fan. I love this move!
There’s to much criticism by the fans and this is a great win to celebrate.
Wonderful! I had serious doubts if they would return to North Wilkesboro speedway :D
Texas is my home track too and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Hope to see you there in a few weeks, would love to meet you.
Yeah I’m definitely going to go to this race. Big win for nascar
As someone who lives here and went to the races in August, this is HUGE...
This is huge news! I grew up within 2 hours of Charlotte, North Wilkesboro and Rockingham. We went to all three venues every year. This will be a phenomenal event.
Yessir!! An all star race for an all star track
This is the upload I have been waiting for since hearing about the possibility of the all star race. I'm so stoked for this I hate Texas it's been one of my least favorite tracks for a long time now. I was born in 88 and I still remember watching the last race at Wilkesboro I'm so glad it's coming back
This is beyond wonderful news. So happy and excited for North Wilksboro welcome back!
Dubs all around for NASCAR in just a 24 hour period! What a early Christmas present! 🔥🔥👌
💯 like you...middle of the line. Really loving the progress nascar has made in both directions over the past 10 years being a diehard fan of 22 years now...and in the time probably only missed watching 15 races lol
Dale Jr is Nascar’s best Ambassador.
And thank you s1ap shoes!!! Probably the best hypeman for these older forgotten tracks.
Such an ICONIC race track North Wilkesboro Speedway. I'm glad Dale JR and NASCAR teamed up to revive NW
i did not realize that im 4 years older then you but happy us youngins are still interested in this sport.
i have 2 kids 5 and 2 and exposing them to nascar to keep my family a nascar fan family
I saw this last night, and I couldn’t wait for an OOTG Episode on it!
Needed this video today. Thanks Eric.
I am really shocked and very happy and I definitely want to go there!!!!
I’ve never been so excited for a race that’s almost a year away!
Dale couldn't be more happier now that Jeff won't be the last driver who got the victory.
Glad to see it back in North Carolina
This is by far the best fan based decision NASCAR has made in the last 10 years. I think they are subscribed to your channel.
Daytona is my home track I was born and raised and still live 20 mins west of the track and have been attending races since I was 6 back in 1994
I remember watching the first race ever on tv so I’m old school I guess and I love nascar is back at a old track
The entire brushy mountain area is excited about this!!!!
This is amazing news. By Nascar .going on North' wilkesboro .
That track has a lot of. History. Glad to see it come back. .
Also that's exciting to see NASCAR putting the. Cameras in every car. That's going to be fun to watch . Thank you for the. Updates. . have a great weekend. Eric. Enjoy the. Races. At. Kansas. We have. Xfinity. Cup and trucks. This week. . stay safe. .
Today has been the most wild news day in the past year for me. NW allstar 2023, The queen is dead, SLS stuff, etc
The last time they raced at North Wilkesboro Speedway was my Junior year in High School
I went to the CARS tour race at NWS and it was amazing, props to NASCAR. Now we just need Rockingham back.
I’m beyond excited for NWS. This is so very huge! I live maybe like an hour and a half or so from there.
