I recently had the pleasure of seeing Suzy at the Grand Ole Opry where she sang this song. She’s still just as charming and still absolutely nailed her performance!
I miss when music had soul. This song was my grandmother's favorite song. My dad and uncle sang it to her before she passed. It reminds me of her. How time Flys by.
My wife and I went to see her in concert last night. She came out with an acoustic guitar, her lead guitarist had an acoustic and had an acoustic stand-up bass. The sound was crystal clear and, at 67, her voice is stellar. One of the most enjoyable concerts I have ever seen. Suzy knocked it out of the park!
I'd not seen this duet before, I'm kind of cruisin through some Jerry Jeff after hearing this morning that he had passed. They're both great, Jerry Jeff shows his class with his kindness, admiration, the way he enjoyed seeing others shine. Lifes short y'all, sleep with an angel Jerry Jeff.
I cannot get thru a damn Jerry Jeff song without weeping!!! This lose hit me like no other!! And there has been a lot in past five years or so!!! But this one is just ( my heart and soul) and I just cry and keep on listening!!! That's exactly what he wants me to do!!!! So... I DO!!!!!! LOVE YOU MORE THAN WORDS JJW!!!! Hard to imagine life without you in it!!!!😢🎶✌️🤠
I just love her voice so much. His harmonizing is spot on. All with no auto tune. It’s a damned shame that nowadays real talent gets pushed aside for other interests and concerns.
This is the heart of the music. Our music meaning those of us who were there. The heart of it all. All in or all out, or not.. High plains drifters, until one day you realize that the road is your only home.
Thank you kindly Jerry Jeff Walker - you were fantastic and an ambassador in your niche of music. Class act. I'll keep playing and listening to your music.
Just washed Suzy do a live Home concert and she played this! I would not have believed it. She sounded great! What a great show. I cherish this collaboration!
Sweet! Suzy Boggus puts 99% of female country singers to shame. Pure, smooth voice, perfect pitch and so easy on the eyes to boot! Jerry Jeff is a living legend and even yodels in harmony. Very difficult to do!
" Between those Hank Williams pain songs, and Jerry Jeff train songs, and ' Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain', out in Luckenbach, Texas ain't nobody feellin' no pain ".
She is very best and so damn nice and humble. Love the song's words and her emotion, and perfect pitch yodling also. Jerry Jeff was laughing at himself thinking, damn that is just one all-time excellent version of this song.
I fell in love with Suzy 20 years ago when I first saw her. I was flipping thru the TV channels and came across her on Austin City Limits. That was the first time a country singer got the attention of a guy who loves rock music.
Seen her in concert when I was 16. The sweetest gift my mom could give me for a Valentines present. I didn’t know her, but I loved her ever since! She’s a beautiful woman, and a fine musician!
Saw her in a Club in Pasadena Texas about this time. Was right next to stage . She was so beautiful and what a great talent !! Great great show. She was so classy .
Suzy is singing as great today as she did back then and is just as gorgeous. She'll be over here in the UK in June 2011 with Gretchen Peters and Matraca Berg (her buddies). I've already got my tickets. Can't wait to see her again!
Rest in peace JJW. you have given so many people so much joy throughout the years. Saw you many times, you gave it your all. Hope you get all your sunsets across the prairie..
omg... i absolutely love her version of this song! A beautiful woman with an awesome voice! Music today is different but not as good as this. Came back Suzy!
Jerry Jeff is always badass, and made a complete class act singing harmony with Suzy, who is far his junior, but also an incredible talent. It speaks to both of their skill and class to collaborate like this. I'd give a kidney to have been at this show. Suzy can yodel with the best and Jerry Jeff, well, he's just awesome. You could cut the talent with a knife in this house.
In watching this and other of this kind of videos, it seems that the more talented the host is the more amazed they are at the talent of their guest, and Suzy is dynamite!!
Why isn't Suzy Bogguss at the very top of the list of country gal singers?? Why? She is the best. Right up there with Emmylou Harris and Patty Loveless.
Talent, Principles and A Folk-Western Music focus that takes a little more work to Market ( Not suggesting that Emmylou & Patty lack Talent or Principles ). Not "Qualities" that Nashville eagerly embraces !
Spent my last year in the AF in Austin. and while the "outlaw music" scene had not yet come to the place, ( most of the bands in the clubs were playing covers of San Francisco acid rock) you could tell that something was in the air and it wasn't but a few short years until the great Texas music that I love so much had taken over Austin. And most of the Lone Star State. I love this stuff!
With Kate MacKenzie, Lucinda Williams, all 3, went Nuts in Boston! Blew the roof down , their Gospel Bluegrass ( Classical. String & Vocal Band), style was so perfected/ in prov;&, inpromptu.!.
I saw her do this live in Seattle and it was just breathtaking! Her voice is simply the bestest on the planet... hands down! No one will ever compare to her ever! :)
This is one of my all time favorite songs living in the rural Northwest, Wyoming, Idaho, and now Northern Nevada, and being a grandaughter of the pioneers, and cowgirl myself the words really hit home, not to mention the soft flow, and smooth slow yodel that goes into it such a true classic, I'm surprised it is not more well known in the country world, of course all the ranchers, and buckaroos out west know it, it's like the rest of the world is really missing out on this one.
@@markenolamckenney244, Isn't it amazing how Marketing can teach people that Crap is Quality and Authentic Talent must be ignored.... Keep telling Lies and people will eventually believe that to be Truth.
@@markenolamckenney244 Right! I played in Florida . went to work after developing film. At noon I played a tourist trap. 1 Guitar, 2 mics. A cigar box for tips. Beer and a giant sandwich. Then I went home to my sweetheart.😎🎸🎶
oh my god, i love this song, i've seen suzy in concert a few times. she just gets better. sure wish she would come back to wyoming and utah. sure do miss her.
I bought ridin' high when it came out . Liked night riderso much , like Suzy i learned to sing it JJW style . 40 some years later I still sing it when my uncle is around . He loved it too!
Night Rider's Lament is the theme song for all those who chose to follow what they wanted to do rather than what paid the best. They made that choice despite all the good advice to the contrary. Thanks Michael and JJW.
Galal Walker, " ... Thanks Michael and JJW." Yes, indeed. Songwriter: Michael Burton. I do wish that performers would give more credit to the people who create the songs that are the starting point for such great performances as this one.
Great song. Suzy's right this is a great song to learn to yodel to. One of the great things about spending my life in Texas was hearing Jerry Jeff before "Bogangles" was even copywritten at the famous "Sand Mountain" and everything since including Rodney, Guy, Willie and Waylon and seeing Garth Brooks at a half full Gruen Hall.
When Suzy sings this song alone I really think it's the best version of it that I've heard. Her voice just really fits this type of music. And yes, Michael Burton wrote it.
I recently had the pleasure of seeing Suzy at the Grand Ole Opry where she sang this song. She’s still just as charming and still absolutely nailed her performance!
Ok I'm actually kinda jealous!!!!
It defies logic that she never became more popular. Not only an angelic voice but beauty beyond compare.
I miss when music had soul. This song was my grandmother's favorite song. My dad and uncle sang it to her before she passed. It reminds me of her. How time Flys by.
Beautiful lady, amazing voice. Should have gone much farther in the industry. My guess is she wasn't pop enough. Love her and her yodeling!
My wife and I went to see her in concert last night. She came out with an acoustic guitar, her lead guitarist had an acoustic and had an acoustic stand-up bass. Suzy Bogguss is truly one of the best.
Jerry Jeff is just a legend.
Thankyou for sharing. One of my favorite Jerry Jeff songs. Bright tears to my eyes. RIP. Jerry Jeff
It's great to see ol Jerry Jeff Walker again. You are missed my friend.
Jerry Jeffs train songs..................he's totally blown away by her
Two great voices from two great people.

Rest in Peace with the Lord Jerry Jeff, a sad loss.
I just love her voice so much. His harmonizing is spot on. All with no auto tune. It’s a damned shame that nowadays real talent gets pushed aside for other interests and concerns.
Enjoy outlaw heaven, Jerry Jeff, we're gonna miss you down here.
Suzy Bogguss is an angel and she blessed all of us.
One of my favorite songs. First heard it on JJW’s Ridin’ High album.
If country music was still worth a damn, I’d be it’s biggest fan. Alas, I am stuck in the past, discovering gems like this one.

R.I.P. Jerry Jeff Walker. You`ll be missed. Thanks for your music.
What a wonderful gem!
They yakyak for 4 minutes. Suzy starts the song at 4:15.
Her yodeling! ❤
What an angel. I've never fallen in love with a woman that i never met personally...but she comes damn close.
I feel the same
You aren't alone.
Damn!?!?! How many singers can belt out music like Suzy and be so dead in tune 😮😮😮😮

I wish just a few of the young artists out there these days could display this kind of musicianship and ability.
