You bring that old pistol right out.
    We got him, Lige.
    It's him, Abe. It's him.
We got the Josey Wales, Abe!
I seen him ride side by side
    with Bloody Bill.
    We got reward money coming.
    Watch it. He's meaner than
a rattler and twice as fast!
    You're a real bush hog,
    ain't you, Mr. Josey Wales?
    Tell you what.
Move on back. Move on back!
    LIGE:
I seen him do some things.
    Shut up, Lige!
    Now...
    ...Mr. Josey Wales...
...I'd just as soon shoot you now...
...except it'd be hard to drag your body
    Page 13/41
to where we can get our price for you.
    -Shoot him now!
    -Shut up, Lige.
    Move your left hand down
    and unbuckle that pistol belt.
    Make it nice and slow...
...so I can count the hairs
    on that hand.
    See, Lige?
    You pull his teeth...
...he's harmless as a heel hound.
Always wanted to face out one of these
pistol fighters they all fuss about.
    Only way you handle them.
    Abe, watch out.
    He's probably got another pistol
    -Shut up, Lige.
Call Benny back there on the horse.
    Benny! Come out!
We got us the Josey Wales!
    JAMIE [SINGING]:
    Oh, brown rosie
    Rose of Alabamy
    Who is that?
    He's just a boy. He's got a fever.
    Tell him to shut up.
    Sweet tobacco posies-
    Pa?
    Is that you, Pa?
It ain't your pa! Now shut up!
    Pa.
I got the gold right here, Pa.
What gold is he talking about?
    There's no gold. He's crazy.
The gold me and Josey robbed
    from the bank.
Lige, take a look under that blanket.
    I got it right here.
Thought you could use some help.

The film is based on a book written by Forrest Carter in 1972 - The Rebel Outlaw: Josey Wales. Forrest Carter was not his real name. His real name was Asa Earl Carter:
Asa Earl Carter (September 4, 1925 - June 7, 1979) was a 1950s segregationist political activist, Ku Klux Klan organizer, and later Western novelist. He co-wrote George Wallace's well-known pro-segregation line of 1963, "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever", and ran in the Democratic primary for governor of Alabama on a white supremacist ticket. Years later, under the pseudonym of supposedly Cherokee writer Forrest Carter, he wrote The Rebel Outlaw: Josey Wales (1972), a Western novel that led to a 1976 film - The Oulaw Josey Wales - featuring Clint Eastwood that was adopted into the National Film Registry, and The Education of Little Tree (1976), a best-selling, award-winning book which was marketed as a memoir but which turned out to be fiction.
In 1976, following the success of The Rebel Outlaw and its film adaptation The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), The New York Times revealed Forrest Carter was actually Asa Carter. His background became national news again in 1991 after his purported memoir, The Education of Little Tree (1976), was re-issued in paperback, topped the Times paperback best-seller lists (both non-fiction and fiction), and won the American Booksellers Book of the Year (ABBY) award.
Prior to his literary career as "Forrest", Carter was politically active for years in Alabama as an opponent of the civil rights movement. In the mid 1950s, he had a syndicated segregationist radio show, and worked as a speech writer for segregationist Governor George Wallace of Alabama. He also founded the North Alabama Citizens Council (NACC), an independent offshoot of the White Citizens' Council movement formed by Carter when the White Citizens' Council tried to moderate Carter's antisemitism. He also formed the militant and violent Ku Klux Klan group known as the Original Ku Klux Klan of the Confederacy, and started a monthly publication titled The Southerner which spread white supremacist and anti-communist rhetoric.

I think that the best line from a Sergio Leone movie, was from The Good The Bad and The Ugly. It’s when Tucco was in the dirty bathw
water and The guy that he had shot in the beginning of the movie was rambling on about having time to learn to shoot with his left. When out of the batwater comes a shot. Tucco says “When you’re going to shoot, shoot, don’t talk. My Wife bought me a shirt for Christmas that has this line on it. I get a lot lot of strange looks when wearing this shirt. I said that maybe I should put the reason for the line. My Wife said that she had the shirt made exactly the way that she wanted it. Either they get it or they don’t. I am a competitive shooter after all. The guys at the range love it. 😜😎😎. She also bought me an autographed Oultlaw Josie Wales picture. Do I have a great Wife or what?

Clint Eastwood directed this and in this scene he sneaks in a little tribute to an earlier film he appeared in back in the 1960s called " Where Eagles Dare" In that movie, which is a WW2 adventure film, Eastwood and Richard Burton are being held at gunpoint in a castle fortress behind enemy lines by a nasty blonde haired Nazi in a black uniform with swatiskas all over him..;-)...anyway, there is an identical shot where after Burton causes a slight distraction by moving in front of Eastwood we see the briefest glimpse of Eastwood's hand reaching towards his inside breast pocket of his jacket and in the next shot the gun is in his hand and he is firing it, just like this scene in Josey Wales, we see his hand move up towards his inside breast pocket, we don't see him reach in and pull the gun out his shoulder holster, we just see his hand slowly moving up, that is enough to tell us what he is about to do, next cut is him firing the gun and killing the bad guys, it is the same sequence as in " Where Eagles Dare" I think that is quite cool for Eastwood to reference one of his own movies from his past!

I am from Deerfield Mo. in Vernon county. I live about 11 miles east of Fort Scott Ks. John Brown kicked off the civil war in my back yard. Josey Wales represents everything that is fucked up about that time and this area. He got swept up in all the Bleeding Kansas crap that roared up and down the border. Free vs. Slave state politics lit a fire that literally burned from my door to Kansas City with General order 11. It was all too easy to get sucked into atrocity and reprisal in those days. No ones hands were clean. People forget who that basketball team is named after. Jayhawkers, Red Legs, whatever you wanna call them, they did their share. I'm not in any way a confederate mind you. Those boys died to keep king cotton alive, to keep rich men wealthy. But, The Outlaw Jose Wales really struck a note with me.
