They made me buy a membership with my gift card. I was pretty upset. I had returned something and it was $75 bucks. If I was to use it I had to buy a membership the cashier told me. She wouldn’t let me exchange anything at all.

If a member buys a gift card and gives it to you, you can then take that card and redeem it for merchandise at Costco... because the SALE was made when the Card was purchased. So a non member can't buy a card, and if you return something, they can give you a refund, but can't sell you something else without you buying membership.

Depends on where you live, I live in a small rural mountain town and costco is the biggest building in the city, we were pumped when we finally got one, lol, nobody really checks your card here because almost everyone in the whole town as a membership, if for nothing else but clothes, your clothes options here are costco, tractor supply and Walmart. I tried this when my membership ran out. I had a bunch of gift cards and went into the costco and at the checkout they told me I could not make a purchase without a membership, despite having costco gift cards. My membership had run out more than a year before hand.
I get my meats there then double freezer bag them in portions. We got a big filet mignon and I cut them into inch and 1/2 slices bags of 3 and they lasted all summer long literally we just ate the last three a couple days ago and I bought them in May. It was $110. But I live in NJ where inflation isn’t the word. Kids clothes winter jackets get decent brands pretty cheap. Kids snacks watch the prices and their name brand stuff isn’t bad food wise. I get my kuerigs there. Not everything is cheaper
With the oil...you buy the big bottle to refil the smaller bottle you probably already had at home, like a normal sized one you bought from a supermarket ahah store the larger one in a cupboard you rarely go into. Top up when needed. Cheaper in the long run. I also do this with hand soap. A multi pack of Fairy Liquid (think y'all know it as Dawn dish soap) lasted me almosy 2 years, same with bleach. 1.5years big rice packet. Foil a year. Still going through the baking paper ahah I also get the executive membership so we get cash back...which we then use to renewed, so only paid the first year.
I watched my kids when they were being watched by others esp when they were very young BUT they absolutely did not have a family member there. Seriously they messed up and luckily the kids are fine and hopefully they won't do it again.

I absolutely LOVE Costco! They always have the best snacks and most are actually better for you too. But Snacks, Spices, Soups, Meat, Toilet paper, Paper Towels, Dog Food and Cat Food, Cheese, Milk, Produce is always great quality. It costs more initially, but you save in the long run because you arent going shopping as much during the week and you have more time to just be home or plan something else to do.

I will say my family loves our Costco membership. You can buy in bulk and they have really good things and some good deals. I know every family is different but I think you’ll love your membership. Also we store all the things that don’t go in the fridge or freezer in our pantry.

Sam's Club would be better for you and your kids because they offer free curbside pick up so you don't even have to go inside to shop just do it online or get free shipping for $50 or more and Shop 2 hours earlier than the store opens for the regular members (with plus membership) and scan n go (don't have to wait in line) for all members 🎉

A member can buy you a gift card. The checkout requires a gift card or a membership card to be scanned before you can pay, that’s how it works.

you have to already have a gift card, purchased by a member for that to work. what you did was plain stupid.
100% can use a gift card without membership also the pharmacy will serve you at both Costco and Sam’s club without memberships
Buy gift card first! You have to have a friend who is a member buy the gift card, then you can go . But they are changing the rules. Ask before you go shopping. These days, don't think you'll be allowed to enter. Its stricter. Better call first!

I will say my family loves our Costco membership. You can buy in bulk and they have really good things and some good deals. I know every family is different but I think you’ll love your membership. Also we store all the things that don’t go in the fridge or freezer in our pantry.
Nice thing about Costco is that if you don't spend enough to make your membership worth while, they pay you back the difference.

Sam's Club would be better for you and your kids because they offer free curbside pick up so you don't even have to go inside to shop just do it online or get free shipping for $50 or more and Shop 2 hours earlier than the store opens for the regular members (with plus membership) and scan n go (don't have to wait in line) for all members 🎉
You could get a costco membership ALLEGEDLY from mexico and be able to use it in america for like $30 bucks😅 idk if that is true though
