Could you make a somewhat of a DC and or marvel or character specific comic timeline never seen some take on this idea and I don’t want any one else to talk about it
@@sebo7345oohhh, thats actually a really interesting idea + would honestly be neat for more non readers like myself (look, i aint been able to consistently sit down and read a book since 5th grade)
Honkai Imact 🗿
you're not a real superhero until you've died and come back at least once
Facts
Shoutouts kamala Kahn
I wonder if anyone's specifically written a comic story about this concept, I know there's comics that play with similar ideas like Supreme.
@@austinsetser6081 She's died 3 times at this point lmao
Well technically batman never died, he was just sent back in time and everyone thought he died
It's such a shame that we don't have Damian teasing Jason about him no longer being the only Robin that died. Like "I was killed too, but you don't see me making that my whole personality".
Damian does kind of do that in the Robin 2021 run. When they do the roof top chase scene. It was kind of emotional to but then Damian shocked Jason.😅
I will always love that one panel of Damian wearing all white with such a wholesome smile on his face, hugging Bruce. He can be a pretty messed up kid at times, but he really does love his father
just new 52 batman as a whole felt so real
Damian was also the only Batfam that didn't get mad at Dick faking his death; He excitedly ran up to hug him, and told him how much he missed him.
People tend to forget that Damian is just a kid.
One scene that always impacted me was when Bruce was obsessively going through computer simulations of the night Damian died and no matter how many times he tried Damian always died. And then Dick comes to help him out of this cycle by going into the simulation with Bruce and together they were able to save Damian, and Dick showed Bruce that he's not the only one carrying weight of Damian's death. Everyone wishes they had done something differently to save Damian it's not just Bruce carrying that weight.
And then once they both leave Alfred comes in and does the simulation where he alone is able to save Damian by tranquilizing him before he ran off to join the fight. . .
Not surprised Alfred seems to be the only one that could’ve saved Damian alone
If you're interested in seeing how Damian reacted to his own death and resurrection can I recommend teh "Robin: son of Batman" series? It's by Patrick Gleeson and honestly is a pretty solid read! it's set just after Batman and Robin ended and covers some fallout of the issues of Batman:Endgame
Ah. I read a couple issues when it came out, but wasn't feeling it at the time. It was also the era where I didn't take detailed notes like I do now. Thanks for the heads up.
I always find it interesting whenever someone close to Batman dies. His origin started with his parents’ death so someone else dying really hits him hard.
The death and return of Damian was the storyline that actually sold me on Damian, before I was just kinda neutral towards him.
But like Bruce's straight up crusade to bring his son back was so compelling and the end of it was so good that Damian kinda started becoming one of my favorite Robin's.
It's ridiculous how all this happened with no repercussions. Batman took on Darkseid and escaped...And got away with it. Let alone how the Bat Family treat the other heroes.
considering how much Batman messed up Apocalypse let alone Darkseid while being all alone. I think the dude finally got the hint to not fuck with Batman.
@@kimetsunoacademia3528 I mean if a human in a suit of armor made to box up gods that is killing him comes to my door and starts to treat me and my army as punching bags i would sit back and lick my wounds you fight gods and the strongest beings in the universe and a man almost ended your world in a day would be both respectable and humiliating.
Tomasi saved Damian in more ways than one. His depiction of him is what made me like him and that love only grew when Tomasi wrote Super sons.
I cant remember which specific issues, but I do remember that Jason and Damian have talked and bonded about their death and the fact that they are more willing to cross the line than the rest.
Not you and Sasha both tackling this arc from different angles within a week of each other. I love it. (Sasha's video focused on Carrie Kelley's return during Damian's death.)
I know, right? What a coincidence.
As for me I thought Damian Wayne robin death was actually well handled and really sad and depressing and really great story in my opinion, while his Return to life on the other hand I think was good but I just fallout to his return had more impact within the wider dc universe as a whole, but honestly despite that setback in general we did get a reference of his time of Damian having superpowers with Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old by showing him how it felt to fly again kind of on the truck with there fathers which I thought was so cute and super adorable at least in my opinion.
I think one of the main reasons why everyone overlooked this was because of the golden rule in comics that there's always a way to escape death. Combine that with the fact that it took one year to resurrect Damian, and it's clear as day.
Yeah, especially in new 52 era, you see this with a lot of superhero deaths, the fact the death and returns aren’t talked about, and it’s just because everybody was doing it. Robin, wolverine, captain America, so on and so forth everybody’s done it, and so it’s easy to skip over it even if the stories are good
I started reading comics in 2011 right before this happened so I remember thinking it was a huge deal. The silent issue of Batman and Robin was the moment I realized comics could be a true art form.
My favorite Robin is Damian Wayne. I love his character in Joshua Williamson’s Robin series, and I heard a new Batman and Robin series by Joshua Williamson that I am really excited for. So glad grant Morrison didn’t permanently kill him off.
I actually just finished reading batman new 52 era (I started reading books like last year?). I genuinely loved the run and reading all of Batman, Dark knight, Detective comics, Bat and Robin, and even Nightwing. I enjoyed basically all of it and loved death of the family and Batman Inc.
Tomasi’s and Gleason’s Batman and Robin is still my favorite title ever, thank you for covering!
Zeb Wells: "I can beat that speed run!"
Kamala Khan: "Wait, what?!"
It was nice to see you colab with Alex dude has a lot of passion for comics. Glad to see RUclipsrs helping each other out.
this is so important to me bc damian is one of the first comic book characters i loved and still is and this story struck me so hard i cried reading it 😭❤
I remember comicstorian covering this run. The resurrection was some of the most heartwarming things I’ve ever read. For a father to go to hell and back to save his son hits so hard man.
I love the critical part of those reviews. It shows how plural the exercise of comic is. So every event is thematic variation through several writers and authors. Opinionating on it only celebrates that.
Man, I COULD NOT STAND Damian when he debuted! Morrison and Tomasi managed to make him one of my favorite characters. Man, his partnership with Dick was truly a special run.
Yay! Another Vid! Thanks Drake, Damiens always been interesting to me. Hope you have a good day man :)
He went from my least favourite robin to my second favourite robin cause of his recent comic book arcs (sorry Tim you got shafted)
Love your content keep up the great work
Of course you get a HI3 sponsership during the arc where Seele becomes the Herrscher of REBIRTH for the video about Damian's death and rebirth
The death of Damian Wayne was one of the first Batman comics I had ever gotten. Never gonna forget such a scene of that kid giving his all
Jason Todd wasnt beaten to death with a crowbar. He was very much still alive when Joker left the building before the explosion. Jason even tried to save his mother from the explosion in his dying moment.
Which is why I said that he was beaten with a crowbar and blown up in the video.
He was probably referring to 3:41
@@ComicDrake I don't really care too much but it's stated at 3:42 that Jason was beaten to death with a crowbar, but you do say he was blown up at 7:42 so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@nolmaosdfsdfeven if he wasn’t blown up realistically he would’ve died from eternal bleeding and head trama
Hearing Alex Lennen in a comic Drake video is crazy
6:44 In case anyone wants to get pedantic about this, the monster is technically Victor's son, which would make him a member of the Frankenstein family. That's also officially what the monster's called in DC Comics so it doesn't matter anyway.
It came up at least once. I think it was during Tom king's run because it took place at bat burger. Basiclly most of the robins were there and shocked signal? With how each was seemingly dead at one point and very casual about it. Daimen was included. I could have sworn there was at least one other throw away line from something where damien freaked someone out by saying hes been to apocalypse.
Does this have anything to do with Alex Lennon’s upcoming Batman video?
Great job man on this awesome video on death and return of Damian Wayne robin. :)
6:07 Oh I think I remember reading this issue and even a couple of those batman and guests books afterwards since that was still while i was actively reading some of the batman books and I remember that cover where they had the robin costumes. It's so funny how I just missed all the rest of this storyline. which honestly is a much better story than I was expecting considering how fast it all happened and as you say, no one talks about it
by the way as someone who’s favourite character is damian i like when people mention one of damians deaths cause currently he has died an entire three times
first was in batman 658 (revived via lazarus in 665) , second was the mentioned in the video, and third was in robin son of batman #13 where he takes a direct hit from a weapon meant to destroy all life on earth. also in robin: son of batman #1 he IS shown to go to hell as well and have nightmares about it.
I remember Batman busting his way thru Apocalypse and it being some of the coolest stuff at the time. I am glad that I now I know more of the context around it. Thank you Drake :D
I remember seeing ads for this storyline in some of the Batman comics at the time
Omg I love that you got Alex Lennen in this!!
9:25 Stuff like this is why I love superhero media.
I do remember reading the entire BATMAN AND ROBIN comic series from start to finish that I check out at the library but didn’t read the comic where Damian Wayne/Robin dies though. I’m very indifferent about which Robin that I like since I’m very out of the loop regarding the Robins in general for example the Jason Todd hate-train at the time was kind of ridiculous just because he was brat similar to how Damian Wayne was introduce and his personality. Even then people have gotten used to Damian after some time, so it could have been possible for the hate for Jason to pass if given the chance.
great video, you should do a video on what sports batman could win in the Olympics
we need a video explaining the logos on your background 🙌🏾
If I remember correctly, super sons did talk about it at least once
I feel like a part of it being forgotten is also that characters dying and coming back is not a big deal in modern stories
Of all the things Jason and Damian could have bonded over. Hearing Damian beat down Joker with a crowbar, would have probably been quite cathartic for Jason.
Seeing that Green Day American Idiot, awakened several high school memories. Still a banger of album.
This storyline is what got me into comics
Darkseid described his Omega sanction as the death day is like. Because of his ability to kill a resurrect new Gods I can see his Omega beams or Omega sanction having the latest ability to resurrect someone even more so if they have a body to work from
Do you have a reading order for the comics you covered here? I'm interested in checking it out.
There was also that time he briefly mentioned it in the super sons comic
bro did not open the video with the minecraft explosion
Bro, you talk about the requiem issue of B&R and talk about how impacted that page of Batman holding ribbons uniform is, but you dont mention it's drawn by Pat Gleason. Tomasi "wrote" it but Gleason did the heavy lifting.
The thing is: since _Death and Return of Superman,_ killing off major characters is no longer shocking because we all know they'll return, except for Uncle Ben and the Waynes (unless we're talking alternate universes).
And here I was thinking the weirdest part of this whole arc was the giant assassain baby
Can you make a video about Tim Drake's Red Robin comics?
If i remember correctly, Damian and Jason both get teased by Tim for being the "Easy-to-kill Robin" during Robin War. Granted that wasn't too long after his resurrection.
man this turned out to be super interesting
I literally just learned about that a couple days ago
Cool shirt! American Idiot is a solid album.
Bruce: MY BABY BOOOOOOOOY!
Tim: Bruce, no!
Bruce: BRUCE, YES!
Good video
Damian may have been the one meant to be killed, but Talia’s the one whose character ended ip assassinated.
Batman on apocalypse in the hellbat suit. Darkseid: " why do i hear doom music?"
the Wayne family tree is weird
since even Harley Quinn in now part of it, in her show at least, not sure about the comics though
Pretty sure Clayface was a part of the Batfamily at one point.
@@matti.8465He was
Once Superman broke death in the 1990's people don't get really excited about a character death anymore. Everyone dies, everyone comes back to life. It's no big deal, so no one really talks about it. Flash's rouges all died, killed by the devil Necron where their souls were tortured for months while their bodies, possessed by unkillable demons, rampaged Keystone city. Flash got their souls back to their bodies. Do they ever talk about it? No! You'd think all the Rouges would feel indebted to Wally, but we can't have that.
The Green Day t shirt brings me back to high school
Speaking of dead Robins, have you ever done a video on Stephanie's death and it's retcon?
Alex and Drake working together? hell ye!
Giving this video a like just for that shirt.
Damian going to Hell is talked a lot in Robin: Son of Batman, which is my single favorite Damian-centric book
Webtoons Damian is supposed to be main continuity Damian?
Ma dude has different hair, different face and different skin color
I love that classic
0:08 you said duty😂
SUPER NICE,
Never knew that he died
I love how the batmfam casually hacked Cyborg and the other suoerheroes told them nothing lol
Where are from the comic book illustrations shown in this video, and are they worth reading, or not so much?
there is a new batman and robin series coming in september
Was that Alex Lennen? Where are you keeping him Drake?
I love seeing Alex Lennon popping up in more and more places on RUclips
comic drake wearing a green day shirt is very cool as someone who listens to green day
Even I read that
That shirt.... oh man, I feel like we're suddenly in a mid-00's mosh pit.
In the bane storyline where Batman ate a burger with a fork, Damian mentions that Jason has died before and Jason replies that Damian died before too.
I don't care about Injustice Damian this Damian Wayne was a true Robin he's a real embodiment of a hero
Hey, Drake. Can you talk about Nimona? It's a webcomic turned Graphic Novel by N.D Stevenson that would eventually become a Netflix film after blue sky closed down
I absolutely hated the movie, so probably not. There was a lot of really interesting stuff there that was completely overshadowed by Nimona's cringe 2003 "lol I'm so random and violent, RARR XD". It's the same reason why I can't stand Deadpool.
i don't like making videos that are just tearing down a work, especially one that a lot of people love and yeah, I am REALLY GLAD that so many people enjoyed it and I appreciated its unapologetic. LGBT inclusivity. Humor is just incredibly subjective and it's very much not for me.
I was 100% on team Jason Todd when he lost it on Bruce. I mean after manipulating him to return to his own murder location, Batman was trying to bring Damien back with a drive he never had for Jason.
Then after Jason calls him out on it, Bruce throws “I just want my son back” or something along those lines- completely oblivious that ALL Robins see Bruce as a father figure, and Jason has abandonment issues to begin with.
All around, Bruce was just a terrible person in this. Beyond just grieving a child
I mean, it’s not surprising that Damien’s death got glossed over. It would be more surprising if a character DID stay dead for over a year these days
Can someone elaborate about 7:10? As far as I knew Jason's resurrection was caused by the lazarus pit, was this a retcon or something?
I know New 52 canon is different, but is it still canon?
Believe they talked about it sorta when they were at the fast food place (dick, Damian, and Duke ) and talking about their deaths , could be wrong , and can’t believe you missed dicks and Damian’s reunions after they both died
do Tim Drake's Dad's death that one had a sad ass ending
Hey Comic Drake please review the comic book series Ninja high school and Gold Digger
Can you talk about robin book by Williamson
I need to know what's up with Isaac newton as the sorcerer supreme
If they make a good comics encyclopedia, Drake needs to be a contributor
Jason Todd: Not so funny is it Damian.
Even though Dick is my favorite Robin I’m kinda warming up to Damien . At first I didn’t like him since I didnt like his attitude and wasn’t how I pictured Robin but I don’t hate him as much anymore. Also could you do videos on the Ninja turtles comics by IDW? It would be good timing since the new movie just came out.
Nice shirt
I think you woud really like Knight Terrors
