Buy a Cayman. I've become a Porsche guy haven't I...well this is embarrassing. It's true though, just buy a base 987.2 (2009 or later) manual at that price. If repair bills are an issue...well then you wouldn't want a performance car around £15-20k, you'd want a reliable performance car for £25 instead.
@@zaink7037 As a 981S driver I can only say this: the 981S is, in my opinion, the best sports car that has ever been built, works best with PDK and needs good colours (white with black wheels/mirrors here). Standard exhaust and suspension are way better than sports exhaust and PASM. A base 981 with a manual isn't far off, long gearing is the only issue. 987 steering is better but 981 beats it in every other way- especially image, you get so many thumbs up and "nice car" shouts. Nobody has given me the finger in 15 months either! A guy in a Yaris did on my last drive in my Lexus (he thought a Yaris could race a GS450h...which beats the 981S, he was silly...). I was expecting that in the porker but not once. Only downsides are tyre noise and every single Fiesta on the road will race you. They'll think they won because you were making noise too, except you were 5k RPM short of the redline singing along to Bonnie Tyler, but they thought you were racing. Not that I've done that😆 They are £35k though...but don't depreciate.
The cheapest thing that's actually decent. Not so cheap that you'd spend more repairing it than driving it (i.e. anything in this video) but cheaper = more fun. £2-3k these days seems a good amount, then as JB said it's insurance. For 1st cars don't think "what will impress my mates" - just think "what can I absolutely rag the balls off and not care about" since you will be far happier. I drive a Porsche (excuse the non-flex, it's relevant!) and honestly I have never been happier than when I had a crash damaged (by me) Peugeot 306 LX. I'd have that car back without hesitation if it still existed, I've driven a lot of serious cars and the Pug was the most fun of the lot, no question. The porker just sounds nicer and I'm an attention whore...
I would go for the A6 despite liking the Merc but any of these for under £1000 you would be lucky to make it past 3 sets of Traffic Lights. This would be great content! 👍
Currently running a 520D M-Sport E63. Currently at 269k having put 185k on it in 9 years. A few little issues (sat nav doesn't work, googlemaps is fine, and 1 door locking mechanism sticks) and there is no Bluetooth streaming but I've only had to buy (a lot of) tyres, new rear springs and a fuel injector in 9 years. Seems to be a really solid car. Even servicing only required every 2 years or 25k. Can't bring myself to tempt fate and get a new one when it runs so well. Cost me 8.5k.

I miss my w210 Kompressor. I ran it in the middle east but yes they rust especially at the bottom of the rear window and the boot and door edges. However it was bloody reliable and only cost be 800 quid in parts including fitting over 7 years. They are a wallowy beast but very comfortable to drive and the Kompressor was decently quick for its time. If you buy check for rust and fix and weatherproof with wax oil. They are the weapon of choice all over the middle east and rack up high miles if looked after with little maintenance. The brakes show abs warning lights now and again which is usually down to dirt so they just need a quick hose and off you go. Much better looking than a beemer or a vw audi in my view and definitely more stately. My mates named her the bismark
@@CarsWithJB Yes unfortunately. But then its probably down to the 100 percent humidity you get through summer which leaves everything soaked. Also I wasn't far from the beach where the water is very salty so will be carried in the air. The lacquer peeled eventually due to the incessant heat as well. Shame really. But considering the weather the car was really reliable. Interestingly the performance shot up when it was hot. We clocked a 0 to 100kmh in just over 7 seconds compared to its winter time run of just under 10. Caught me by surprise on the motorway once as I floored it to overtake and nearly hit the rear end of a truck as I hadn't anticipated the faster pickup which led me to do the acceleration test
The Rover 75 was a lovely car... Some years back I had a toss up between the MG version and the X-type... The X-type won out as it had AWD in the 2.5 and 3.0 models.

1k gbp (1.1k eur) for an E90? What the actual hell? In the Balkans an E46 can't be found for under 2k euros and E90 for at least double that, with some decent equipment they go even above 5k...and you get them for a fifth of the price...while having at least 5 times larger salaries?!
I have a Rover 75 1.8T lovely cars nice drive but I think if you pay less then £1000 for 1 you will probably find yourself having to do some repairs within a few months good 1s are starting to fetch more and are becoming Collectable as well I don't think the 75s will stay cheap for much longer as they are starting to get a lot of followers.
Should have got the 1.8T engine. The 1.8 NA is just too underpowered for the weight of the car. The 1.8T can be remapped by K-Maps to ~200bhp. I think they can remap the NA engine to around 135bhp which is a good improvement over the original. The 1.8T however is much much better. HGF not really an issue these days given the options available for replacements and the TCi-Tech development. Of course in a 75, the two engines to get are either the 4.9L V8 (Mustang engine) or more practical for most, the 2.0CDTi. the CDTi can be remapped to 165bph+ quite cheaply and is smooth, refined, and very economical. It is the BMW M47R engine, the Roverised variant of the M47 engine, but the beauty of it is it does not suffer the swirl flap or VNT turbo issues of the BMW engine. For something a bit more modern in terms of design, the MG ZT is the one to go for, if you want the platform given its handling credentials, the MG6 Turbo is awesome!
if you have £1000 to your name DO NOT BUY A CAR TO LOOK RICH buy the cheapest to run and reliable. if you have a couple thousand to have some fun with go for it
Insane how cheap cars can be in UK, here in Brazil the prices for used cars are totally insane. Audi A6 here this car will cost R$70,000 or more ! Rover is horrible,a cheap design copy from Jaguar.
I dont know what kind of market is there but when i searched for a6 c6 in germany , everything under 3.000 eur was broken, undrivable... Arround 4-5 k € high mileage... 7-10k € + lower mileage, better condition... I dont think that is a luxury car u can get for under 1k, no way
You can buy the same used model of car much cheaper in Britain than in Germany. Having lived in both countries, the Germans ask way too much for stuff generally. They don't go in for 'bargains' either. They don't know what they are. They're a bit grasping in my opinion.
Luxury cars that look expensive- because they are...to fix...constantly 😆 Part of me wants to not like this video because even for RUclips, buying one of these at under £1k is a terrible idea. Buying any car under £1k is a terrible idea unless you're a mechanic. My first car was £1500 in 2006 and that was a pile of crap (Punto S60), followed by a Pug 306 in 2008 for £1700 which I would buy again right now...but under £1k? Nothing good can come of this... £2k is perhaps reasonable for a project car though. The E90 interior actually has aged well. It's weird, I looked at one when they were current and I genuinely didn't even bother test driving the 1st one since the interior was so bad, but it doesn't look any worse now. E Class looks nicer even though it's older though. Still, I'm checking my balance right now in case just looking at this video cost me £5k somehow, these things are terrifying!
Haha my £400 Skoda, £400 polo, and £1,000 MX-5 disagree! I think I got lucky with all three though, plus having the mechanic dad… I really want either this or the £2k video to hit the 15k likes mark because then I’m all in on an absolutely dead old luxury car to see what living with it is like 👀
@@CarsWithJB With a luxury car £2k might be enough that it makes it to the garage to be fixed again 😁 £1k is...well if the tyres are worth more than the car that's probably not a great plan.

All three concepts made production. The others became the BMW 1 series & BMW mini
A Rover 75 does not and never did look like an expensive luxury car, even at £1000 is overpriced!
awesome vid !
my rover 75 is awful 😂 the 1.8 engine is the worst engine ever!!
Haha I can definitely imagine! Which 1.8 does it have? Is it a K series?
@@CarsWithJB yah its the K series, basically the 1.4 but will a longer bore stroke, waste of metal 😂
For something a bit more modern in terms of design, the MG ZT is the one to go for, if you want the platform given its handling credentials, the MG6 Turbo is awesome!
if you have £1000 to your name DO NOT BUY A CAR TO LOOK RICH buy the cheapest to run and reliable. if you have a couple thousand to have some fun with go for it
Agree with all of the above
Insane how cheap cars can be in UK, here in Brazil the prices for used cars are totally insane. Audi A6 here this car will cost R$70,000 or more !
Rover is horrible,a cheap design copy from Jaguar.
Vans please! And then campers please, for this poor nomad 1k 2k 3k. Nice one on subscribers too, up 30k since I did.✌🏽❤
I’ll see what I can do in the new year!
Good luck on getting a 2007 3-Series for $1,000 here in the U.S. You're looking at $8K on the low end...
Rover 75 driver seating position was total crap. If you have a back problem don't even think about one.
Next under 5 dollars 💸 💵
Have you done a luxury one for 5k ?
I have, I think it’s my most viewed video!
@@CarsWithJB n1 ty
I own an X Type and it's the most unsatisfying car I've ever owned. Awful cheap build quality. The 75 is a great car and WAY better than the Jag.
Thanks for the insight! Crazy to think the Rover is outdoing the Jag
Luxury cars under £500!
😅 send help
I dont know what kind of market is there but when i searched for a6 c6 in germany , everything under 3.000 eur was broken, undrivable... Arround 4-5 k € high mileage... 7-10k € + lower mileage, better condition... I dont think that is a luxury car u can get for under 1k, no way
You can buy the same used model of car much cheaper in Britain than in Germany. Having lived in both countries, the Germans ask way too much for stuff generally.
They don't go in for 'bargains' either. They don't know what they are. They're a bit grasping in my opinion.
castle motors about 30 mins from me!
Off to autotrader to look at the list of cars suggested 🤣
😅
I think I got lucky with all three though, plus having the mechanic dad… I really want either this or the £2k video to hit the 15k likes mark because then I’m all in on an absolutely dead old luxury car to see what living with it is like 👀
@@CarsWithJB With a luxury car £2k might be enough that it makes it to the garage to be fixed again 😁 £1k is...well if the tyres are worth more than the car that's probably not a great plan.
add the insurance cost...
There is no such thing as the Prime Minister of England. The Prime Minister is the PM for the whole UK. England is not a devolved part of the UK. Aside from that these reviews are great!
Good spot - you’d have thought someone with a first class honours degree in politics would have picked up that misdemeanour 😅
1000 euro per month on maintenance costs
Sorry JB, I’m no longer part of the Polo Club. I’ve joined the dark side (BMW)
The door is this way sir, I will hold it for you on your way out. Good day.
Hahah I’m sad to hear you’ve left, but it was a good run!
the audi is the best i think
Definitely a nice choice
Il be honest you’d be hard pushed to find a e90 bmw that’s half decent for sub 1k
