- In this interview, you are going to hear from Philip Krzyszton on the path he took to land a job as the First Officer of a Falcon 20 at a mere 275 hours.
I first discovered Philip after reading this thread on Facebook (bit.ly/3rpizo4) and after seeing what he'd done...and now valuable networking was to his career, I reached out to ask him to do this interview because I it would be very helpful for other members of the Fly With Trent community to hear his story.

After a successful business career where I've started and sold a number of companies, I've decided to get out from behind my computer to pursue a lifelong passion and start career 2.0 as a professional pilot. My goal is to get to 1500 hours and then either work for a large regional, a major, or possibly even cargo. 75hrs a month is close to full time flying for most pilots I believe, and to be getting that as turbine time at such a low number of hours is awesome. I'd love to see more videos like this and can't wait to get flying myself.

Good to have an a&p to fall back on, never know what life will throw at you so the more skills you have the better off you’ll be. I have had several engineering students do internships for me and farmers kids were some of the best when it comes to working with their hands.
This video just drives home how important face to face contact is even in a digital world.

That was super helpful to see an actual example of how networking works. We all know we need to network, but I believe everyone truly thinks "that's great info for you, but it doesn't apply to me I have the hours and they'll hire me because I'm awesome"

Excellent Video! I am an A&P/IA and have been for the last 23 years. I am transitioning to the cockpit myself. Currently working on CFI. For those going the A&P path, part 147 schools are a great way to track this path. The best values can be found at 147 schools that are part of a community college. I am currently looking at corporate aviation because of my maintenance background. Most people I have spoken with say that this will be a tremendous resource. Philip, excellent job man. Thanks for sharing your story. One thing that you may consider with your background is the NBAA CAM (Certified Aviation Manager).

Love your videos, and I encourage more interviews. I'll +1 the suggestions you're getting on music, I would just kill the music during the interview except for intro and outro. In my case, I watch a lot of videos at 1.25x or 1.50x playback speed to get through more content in less time, and the music is REALLY hard to deal with at that speed. :)

There’s a guy “Gear-Down” who’s came from the music’s industry. He’s an independent and has done very well for himself. I’ve learn my trade the same way, you got to gain skill and education that make you sellable and not end at the bottom of the application stack.

Thanks for posting Trent. Could you do a video explaining SIC time and what counts toward ATP minimums? I have found a lot of people are confused on this and may take a job thinking that their time will count when it won’t. Than you kindly.

My weekly goal is to fly 30+ hours and create one video.
This is the exact route I am starting in a few months. If you end up flying commercially, it's like having 2 careers. Except 1 doesn't require a medical.

Of course, I'm biased, but I do believe that this is the best route to take, not only for providing value to employers, but also to understanding the aviation industry better. By getting your A&P, you will understand systems better than any of your instructors and examiners... makes check-rides a breeze :)

So let me try to understand this for my future endeavors.. You can become a FO without having the 1500 hr standard requirement set by most major airlines? -- So in the instance here, Philip got an FO job at 275 hours because his boss liked him & decided he would be fit for the gig; done via networking and being a genuine human.
I guess I've had it in my head that you CANNOT become a FO until you hit (x) amount of flight hours; as in there's a rule or regulation set for this.

To fly for an airline, you do need 1500 and an ATP. To fly for a part 135 operation as a first officer, you do not.

Hi Trent, I enjoy your channel. I have been following a pilot Nancy (Bradshaw) ? from Florida who had been very active writing about her experiences from flight instructor to flying for United Enb145, got furloughed , went to cargo, then flying private jet and finally got hired as first officer for United. She seems to have vanished from youtube. Have you seen anything of her. Pilot Nancy? Do airlines discourage talking on yourube?
she quit youtube because of negative comments. She made her last post a month ago I believe
I’m not sure. She might have just burned out.
She sends out emails every now-and-then but I have noticed a drop in frequency.

Curious to know if Phillip was sent to FlightSafety or another school to get a Type Rating for the Falcon-20? Without one, presumably he isn't certified to be a First Officer and can't log the hours in his Log Book. Not shitting on him - just wasn't clear from the interview because it's presumably more than 12,500lbs.
I’ll let Philip answer that…
The company I am with provides the type rating as part of the hiring bonuses, so I was hired on without the SIC type. It was a month of company-provided ground school, then we went down to Paramount Aviation Services (Formerly FlightSafety) to do simulator training and do the type rating check ride. So yes, I am rated to be FO with a Falcon 20 SIC Type Rating.

i tried to do a part 61 bt it juts was not working. i managed to pass the ppl written with an 80% i signed up for sheppard air i got a 60% on my 1st practice exam with them but in the last 2 months i have worked so many hors at my real job i have not had a chance to open the sheppard air app. i talked with a 141 flight school and told them the problem i have is i still have bills to pay. they said you can add your monthly bills into the student loan. so the bank would give the monthly payment to the flight school and then the flight school would send my part to my bank account to pay for my bills and what not ( i forget the fancy name he used) i have searched high and low and cannot find grants or scholarships for someone about to turn 50. so student loan looks like the path i am going to be taking.

Good video but I would consider getting rid of the background music during the interview. It was distracting on headphones at least.

He is a very lucky kid. Aviation is just like the law in the US. It is very unjust, meaning that hard work/knowledge/credentials mean noting if you have the network/connections to make big. I know a handful of pilots that they are there because of who they knew, not what they know. Aviation is an unfair business, and it will probably never change. Some of you may not agree but that is the reality.
No. That is just the story you are telling yourself to make up for falling short of your goals.
How can you say with 100% certainty that aviation is this way? Did you talk to every single person in aviation? Did you apply for every single job in aviation?
If you have the beliefs of a victim, you will live the life of a victim.
Either the aircraft is uninsured or they don't know he's flying this jet lol. I personally want to meet the underwriter at the insurance company that said 275 is good enough for a Falcon SIC out of all the 1,500 hour pilots out there. I didn't get approved for a King Air SIC due to insurance at 750 hours...

While the only people in the world and I mean the U.S citizens struggle to get to 1,500 hours after finishing their license around 250 hours to land a job in the airlines. The rest brag about how they land a job with the airlines just after finishing their comercial with those hours since they don't have that 1,500 rule.
