Hello, i hope you will have wonderful days in Romania. Brașov is my favorite town, i came here every summer and especially in the winter. The traditional romanian food is really good and the views also
Aw thank you so much!! We'll have to check out Suceava whenever we come back :) We LOVE Romania! We have about 4 more videos to share from when we visited!
My husband loves all the gothic horror literary characters. Dracula being his favorite. I’m trying to plan a trip to Bravia and Bran Castle, so this video is really helpful. Thank you! I really enjoy all of your content. Keep ‘em coming! 😁😃
Thanks so much! I’d definitely recommend adding in Corvin castle and Sighisoara as well! They have better links to Vlad Tepes, the Dracula inspiration ☺️
@@AshleyandChristian in terms of understanding the European history and the romanian language and culture in its context look to the video on RUclips called "Originile limbii române". The origins of the romanian language.
Brasov looks like such a beautiful town. Its crazy to think how recently countries like this were using torture techniques. Jon is a fireman so thought that street was really cool xx
@@AshleyandChristian BTW, The Bean Specialty Coffee in Sighisoara (on the street with umbrellas) has a great latte, and if you like flavors added, they sometimes have a raw hazelnut syrup that is fab.
I can’t get over how beautiful and old some of the architecture is! Can we just hold on a sec and realize that a public execution took place less than 50 years ago…?! 😳 That torture room in the castle looked…terrifying… to say the least.
Right?! It's so beautiful! And honestly the whole country is just amazing. The 1989 execution was in Bucharest and not like a real public thing, our bad for not clarifying well at all 😅 and yes.. not very into that torture room haha
Omg,I can't believe you didn't go into the elevator in Bran castle, it's truly amazing, as it drops you down pictures of dragons, sanziene, iele, ghosts and bats are shown
08:40 Next to you is county history museum( was council house before 1950) not town hall ( that is down the street )and we did not execute anyone there in 1989, maybe u mean Ceausescu dictator in '89 but that was in Bucharest in a military unit. Nice video .
Small doors in size and height same as in Medieval Japan are a Defensive System! It were built for the purpose in case of a Home Invasion the Enemy Soldiers to get inside 1 by 1 and must get into a Vulnerable Position by lowering his head to enter! It was easier to defend in case of an Invasion - Coup - War! Castles are meant to be easy to defend against large numbers with small numbers: for example 100 soldiers could easily defend a Castle against 1000 enemy soldiers! Also the secret rooms, tunnels, corridors are there for easy escape just in case... also good if you wanted to cheat your wife with a mistress/maiden/baby-sitter, for example: Dracula aka Vlad Tepes had a 14 years old peasant girl as a mistress that fell in love in Brasov just outside the wall, when Vlad Tepes helped some people with a Wagon who got stuck in the mud! The girl ( 14 years old ) instantly fell in love with his altruistic personality despite the fact that he was Married and a royalty! She eventually had a baby with Vlad Tepes, but it was just a Bastard with no Throne rights..
In 1989 it was not an execution, it was a revolution against the communist regime. (equivalent to Stalin's regime in Russia) People had a poor life, they couldn't even visit another country, it was like a cage. So people revolted against the dictator, sadly many civilians were killed, but the dictators were condemned to death due to crimes against a nation. For example, the Palace of Parliament was built by that dictator due to his proud and vanity, starving many people and making prisoners work in buildings in inhumane conditions until their deaths. (don't think that the prisoners were real murdereres, back then if you would say something bad about the leadership or have an opinion you would be locked up in the jail.) He took a lot of his ways of leading the country from North Corea, after he visited it. But the vlogs are amazing!
9:00 No, no, no. Not in 1989... come on. Do you think we're that medieval? The last execution was in the 18th century, so around 300 years ago, not 30-something years ago. I don't know where you read that, but it's wrong...
We actually read it while in Brasov, we didn't get it from the internet or anything! We didn't have great phone service while in Brasov haha en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trial_and_execution_of_Nicolae_and_Elena_Ceau%C8%99escu this article also mentions it!
@@AshleyandChristian That was not in Brasov. That's our revolution when we got rid of comunism, and the dictator and his wife were trialed and convicted to death by a tribunal. And that execution happened in Targoviste. There's no mention of the word Brasov in that whole article. lol
Yes i was just showing the year! We read it while in Brasov on a sign nearby. Like I said above, definitely my fault for not including the location of where it was
I didn't like the weird Disney/Dracula stuff in Bran castle, it seemed to suck the authenticity out of the place. Such a shame really. Interesting to see Queen Maria's influence on the interior decor though. She was an amazing woman. Braşov is gorgeous. One of the loveliest cities in Romania ❤.
@@AshleyandChristian It was not in Bucharest, they were executed in Targoviste, inside a military unit..although it is true that after that capital punishment was abolished
no one was executed in that square since the 1700's! I'd wish nothing more that on a brisk Sunday morning as I open my window to see some criminal being disemboweled in front of my eyes, but we don't do that anymore
Its amazing how when Americans visit a historical place they expect Disney excitement...take a moment, analyze where youre coming from, think why you dont get history or maybe it is boring for you...I get it, Im from Brassov, I lived in the States for like 5 years, and over there, if you snap you fingers and have nothing new to say you lost the crowd...I hope you enjoyed nevertheless...
I think you missed what we were trying to convey. We loved our time in Romania as a whole and are always try and learn the history of the place we’re in. I thought our excitement came across but I guess not! we’ve also never been to disney and would much rather travel to new countries
I wanted to go to Romania this year, but I’ve heard that they don’t have animal abuse laws and that people kill dogs on the streets and that is something I don’t want to see. Can you please tell me about this.
I feel like I am at a point where I am not as happy that Westerners discover and like our country, as I am pissed off the West sees us like the village in Van Helsing.
I haven’t seen that, but looked it up. I definitely don’t view your country that way at all, and I feel like we made it pretty clear we like the actual history of Romania much more than the fairytales surrounding it.
Guys I loved your historical detail, and your attitude towards the real history. But I am saddened you did not mention the Transylvanian Saxons (Germans), without which we would not have had neither the castle, nor the Brașov city centre. Transylvania is Romania's pearl also because its culture diverse roots: Romanian, Hungarian, German, Jewish (btw after the wrope street you filmed a Synagogue, without mentioning it). Congrats, again, on your clip, but please reflect more of the cultural diversity of the country next time! ❤️
There’s just so much history and info to share there’s no way we can cover it all 😫 in our Peles castle video though we talk about how many different cultures influenced the design! Romania has SO much history I feel like we can’t do it justice haha
Actually it's a big shame for the welcoming romanians that they was a bit busy with the agriculture and shepherding so producing value when in the meantime others using them work build up on the top of the old Dacians cities and today they suppose that without them that land would become an empty space without civilization. We also should be shamed by covering all the ancestral original culture still existing in the villages from 7-8000 years ago with the "civilization" who destroyed not just the romanians/Thracians culture but probably many others, the romanian culture being just the roots of the European culture. Look to the video" Originile limbii române " and you will understand much more and not just suppose that what I'm saying is because everyone would like to be important or relevant in this world.
I know 😭 total misspeak on our part. I think we read the last execution was then, but then grouped it into that sentence which sounded like it was also public. Definitely our bad!
There was no execution in Brasov in 1989, come on! (our Revolution did happen in 1989 and the former dictator + his wife did get executed, but it didn't happen in Brasov). It may have happened during the medieval times, but not ever since.
