What a spectacular performance by every single person on that stage.
I was born in Glasgow in 1971 and grew all through my teenage years with Sade always being there alongside us all. And I always adored her voice and the seemingly effortless style of the band’s music. It was, and in fact still is enchanting and intoxicating.
I am sad and ashamed to admit that I allowed myself to drift away from this incredible band later in my teens and adulthood too. But not anymore. I owe a HUGE thank you to Jo Whiley of Radio 2 for making Diamond Life her vinyl revival a couple of weeks ago to quite rightly celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of the album.
I found myself sitting with the tears pouring out of my eyes listening to the light and the colour flowing out from the radio and carving its way directly into my heart and soul.
Thank you to Jo for reminding me that this woman and this band are utterly timeless. I listen to 40 year old songs that could have been written yesterday.
I went straight onto apple music and downloaded all 6 albums and now listen to them every day.
Thank you to Sade for everything you have given to the world.
God bless the purity of the soul your music carries.

Sade has NEVER been really really dark skinned... even in her earlier videos. It must be the bright lights that are making her look lighter lol. Anyway, doesn't matter to me. She's super talented and lovely. Even if she did lighten her skin (which I doubt) doesn't take away from the fact that she's an awesome musician and THAT IS NOT FAKE!!! :)

I was a Sophomore in high school back in 1992 when I first saw the video and heard this song. Both my Sister and I share the same birthday but we are 6yrs apart and June 5th is our day. The year is 2001. I am at a Sade concert at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA. My date and I are in the very last seat of the third row, but the rows curve so I am actually first row no more than 8 feet from the right side of the stage. The lights dim and Sade begins to sing this song. The crowd falls into an enchanted silence as she wraps us in the velvety warmth of her voice. As the song progresses Sade moves like the goddess Hathor gliding ever closer to where I am sitting. She stands directly in front of us, blotting out everything else in existence. Her powerful presence is all I can see and hear. My heart is pounding like hammer and steel. Her arm rises and then she dips her hand to me to let me know she is singing directly to me. I cannot look away from the windows of her soul. "This is no ordinary love, no ordinary love." My heart feels as though it will explode.
