After so many years of buying Amaryllis from the big box stores and finding them to be mislabeled with the wrong names, I got half a dozen freebies from a favorite local garden center after Christmas last year. So glad I did! With your encouragement and that of Danielle of Northlawn Flower Farm, I grew mine outside (in pots) and they flourished. I may have waited a little late to put them into dormancy as they were doing so well, which means they will be coming out of dormancy and consequently blooming later but I don’t mind when they bloom just so they bloom. Thank you for the wonderful information on caring for my Amaryllis! 💚
I started growing Amarillas after watching your video a few years ago and I'm hooked. Thank you for explaining the life cycle very helpful. Keep us posted on the growth your collection is beautiful.
I have a Best Seller. The bulb is small and so are the flowers, but it amazingly has two flower stalks, and one of them has six blooms! Incredible! Having seen yours, I am looking forward to this bulb growing bigger and producing large flowers.
Thanks, very timely. I was just noticing that the amaryllis I put in the basement have reached the brown stage. My problem with amaryllis is that the flower heads often become so large and heavy they flop over unless I use all sorts of stakes. I am sure that it will help to give them the sunniest spot I can find so that they don't have to stretch. One reason to do the pebbles and water in a tall glass vase method is that the flower stalk can lean against the side of the vase. Maybe one could add a tad of fertilizer to the water? They certainly do cheer up January!
Thank you for the good information I love amaryllis ,because they can be a little expensive I always wait till after Christmas and the stores put them on sale for 5 dollars or less .
Thank you for sharing... The first time for me to try my skill for making Amaryllis Re-blom - I was so busy this Christmas hope that it is not too late for me in January . 😇 Good knowledge for me. Best Wishes from STOCKHOLM - SWEDEN 💝💖💖💖💖
I just potted mine as well yesterday Also i bought more at the store that is already budding up. So i can have a.succesion blooms..you have such beautiful collections. Apple blossomsis gorgeous so i bought more of those..🤗
Hi Yuliya, Thanks so much for this segment about amaryllis-it is so easy for this to become an obsession as the flowers are gorgeous. Need to know what fertilizer you use and how and when to fertilize?
I decided to buy one last yr at a garden center, it was pricey, but I figured I'd do the same and plant it outside. It never did bloom, I just put it in my back room I use for sowing seeds. Awhile ago I noticed the foliage growing, and it had a "baby". I pulled the dead foliage, and the baby, planted it thinking I didn't really care when it bloomed. And here I go again, 6 big beautiful leaves, no bud showing, it's been about 3 - 4 weeks now. Your new order look whimsical as well as gorgeous.
Thank you for this video about amaryllis! I’m starting to buy them and I got one for Christmas from my brother. I love them and I’m excited to see them bloom! They are gorgeous!
I just discovered this video. In September I look my 5 amaryllis bulbs that were growing outside on my deck all summer. I potted them individually and but them in a box in my garage. I left their leaves on and had planned on removing them one by one starting in late November or early December. My plan was to cut off the leaves and start watering. So I didn’t do this right. Next year I will try as you have done.
When the blooms open use gloves or a paper towel and pull the yellow pollen off the stamens. It slides right off and the blooms will last longer. ( do the same for any lily, tiger, Easter, asiatic etc) Be careful, it will STAIN whatever it touches. Lol.
Hi there. So I got two amaryllis from a friend about three years ago. She had them in two separate pots but she didn't know what they were. She had given me a truck load of different plants. Anyways I brought them home and sat then on my shelf outside on my back porch and that's where they lived until this past April. I live in Central FL. Anyways I'd water them n give them fertilizer when I thought about it, basically I neglected them. I know I'm horrible. So the beginning of this year I finally took the time to find out just what they were and found out they were amaryllis. They never bloomed in all the years I've had them. So I'm sorry I planted them in the ground and I got nice green foliage but no blooms. So the beginning of Oct I dug them up and I have them in dormancy now or so I hope they are. I'm going to pull them out the beginning of Nov pot them up and see what happens. Wish me luck. I'll let you know what happens in a few months. Thanks for the video, it's been very informative..
The varieties you ordered are gorgeous! I'm wondering what you did with the small offshoots (of which I ended up having one). Do you plant them up now or do you wait and just plant them out in the garden with the larger ones next summer? Also, thanks for letting us know that sometimes they take a year off - it's reassuring to know that we didn't do anything wrong should that happen!
I love Amaryllis as well and I received one for Christmas from my husband last year. It’s in my basement now but not in a dark place, so I’ll be taking care of that for sure. two months so I’m thinking my blooms won’t happen until after Christmas thank you so much for sharing
Great information,Yulia . I love 💕 the ones you have , gorgeous blooms and colors . My question is : Can you get more plants out of the ones you already have , Like for instance Dahlias?
Great information Yulia. Thank you so much. I love your videos 🥰Sadly I decided to give up on mine because after 2 years I couldn’t get them to rebloom. Maybe I will try again next year ❤️
What a great video, this is the first time I’ve planted an amaryllis bulk it’s a huge bulk I paid $35 for it I opted it up like you said but I did water it ,,and been watering it every few days as seems to be dry it has green on it but nothing coming up the one I got is called monte blanc should I stop watering till I see the green popping up thanks so much for your help
If you plant them in the ground can you just leave them in the ground? I have some that have bloomed outside after the winter for two years now. I live in Central NC
😅thank you for this wonderful demonstration and info. Perfect timing. I now have 5 amaryllis including 1 that was a waxed bulb (thank you pandemic impulse online buying). They are all in dormancy but I had left them in their pots and put all into a couple boxes behind my bedroom door (live in 1 bedroom condo in Washington DC, so not many storage options). I am curious if the waxed one will blossom again. For that one it’s an experiment. It was an inexpensive one from Trader Joe’s. After it bloomed (only a 6 inch stem with flower), as you stated I cut off the stem but in this case I also peeled off the wax, planted bulb in soil in pot and put it on roof deck with the other amaryllis for the spring and summer. It finally grew leaves and roots. Once I eventually bring it out of dormancy in the new year, will see if it actually grows another flower and maybe a little taller than the puny 6 inches. You make me braver in dealing with plants. Because of you, my cyclamen plant is coming out of dormancy now and growing leaves and buds. My coleus cuttings are rooted at my southern window. Yippee. Thank you for your gentle, positive but also realistic attitude in gardening. I have learned much from you.
Last Christmas, I also bought an inexpensive waxed amaryllis bulb from TJ’s. After blooming, I removed the wax, potted it up, and left it outside in my garden (zone 10). To my surprise, it rebloomed in August, 2 gorgeous stalks.
I’ve always put my pots outside for the summer. I’m curious about planting in the garden. Do they do well if you get a lot of rain? And how much do you water them? I like the idea of the bulbs bulking up. Mine seem to only make off shoots but not get bigger.
What size Bergs pots are you using? Medium pot or large? I just found you and thoroughly enjoy your video. I want to purchase a Bergs pot to grow my amaryllis. Thank you so much!
THANK YOU!!! I will be prepared for next year. This was very comprehensive information and very timely. When you transplant your amaryllis outdoors, does it give you a second bloom??? ♥️♥️♥️
I followed your advice and left my bulb in it’s pot outside over the summer (western Washington state) It bloomed in August! I have since put it into dormancy in it’s pot. Does it need new soil? Do you ever need to feed them? Should I expect a bloom this winter since it bloomed during the summer? Thank you. I really appreciate your channel.
We had a very hot summer this year. How do you manage watering your yard? Do you have sprinklers or drip irrigation? I used soaker hoses with timers and I'm just wondering what is the best way to water a yard with several different beds in various locations.

It’s so nice to see amaryllis blooming in the cold winter months. Thank you. 🍁🍂🍁🦃💚🙃

Another issue is temeprature... More sturdy in a cool room.
Place in a bright spot and turn regularly. They maybe stretching for light.
I bought some single stem stakes from Amazon that work very well to keep the flower stem upright. They come in various heights.
First time attempting amaryllis dormancy, and this video is a fantastic guide. Cheers.

This Zone 6B gardener definitely want to see and follow your calendar!
Trying to find Bergs pots and can’t seem to find them anywhere? 🍁🍂🍁🦃💚🙃
I can never quite get my act together in Sept-just now putting them to bed-but it’s so worth it in the end. Thank you for the reminder.
Thanks!
Kerry! Thank you so much for this generous gift! ☺️☺️☺️

I wish you had talked about staggering planting/blooming. I'm planting one each in November, December and January to get me over the winter blues.
Check bloom calendar in the description below 😊

great info!
Where do you buy your Amaryllis bulbs ?
Excellent good method
Is it best to use deep pots ?
I learned a lot thank you😊
Do they multiply in the ground like daffodils?
Yes, they grow offsets or baby bulbs which you can divide.
I live in zone 10a. I did not get them inside because I have nowhere to keep them to allow them to go dormant. Will they bloom outside?
Do you have a closet? Do you have cupboards? Just put them in a dark area. I put mine in the kitchen cupboard.
Helpful video
Hi Yulia! I just brought out my amaryllis from dormancy and there are a couple of new leaves growing, about 6" tall. Should I cut them down to the bulb or leave them alone? Also, do you fertilize them, if so, when do you start and end? Thank you. Great video!
Those leaves are new growth. Why would you cut them?

Amaryllis is a term stemming from Greek, not Latin.
I know so, because I speak the language.
