Great Simply great I go aboard her everytime I visit the UK, when I was a child in WW11 I could see her from my classroom window, I migrated to Australia After the war some years after it sure made my day I have put it on my blog and linked you
...and for the generosity that had with all those who landed, what I will not stop doing present to my Sovereign one, and I expect with the time to be able to assure V.E. personally all that I am of obedient humble V.E. servant Horace Nelson
don't forget to Salute her if your going by ferry. the modern Royal Navy has a tradition of Saluting HMS Victory as they are going pass her as they are coming into the dockyard
thank you for displaying these. i was under the impression that around this era it was royal navy custom to paint the gun decks red to hide blood n gore in battle so as to not lower morale and cause cowardice or desertion of your station. i read somewhere once it took a 65 acre forest to build her
HMS Victory... I'm quite glad they didn't scuttle her. Next to the USS Enterprise and the Bismark, she stands as one of the greatest ships of all time... And let's not forget her Commanding Officer, Lord Horatio Nelson, the finest admiral of all time... Served his country, Europa, and humanity well... What a man. Rule Britannia! Britannia Rule the Waves!!! From your son, The United States. With love. :)
went on board a few times over the years. went on board her again on 31 July 2022 saw the place where Lord Nelson fell and where he passed away. the latter has changed a bit since my last visit
Antonio Gutiérrez's answer to Nelson: Very my Gentleman, of my maior attention: Gladly is recivided the V.S.'s very valuable one effect of your generosity and good way of thinking, since of my part.....
@9federal he was a sailor not a marine, but anyway, I agree he is a true hero. I believe his life was predestined. Just think, when he was a little child he sailed past the Victory when it was at anchor during peace time, gazing at it in awe. He would never have guesed that his life would later end upon that ship! Truly amazing!
I had an ancestor who fought with Nelson at Tragalgar - the Victory belongs in England and should never fall into foreign hands. Don't let this be Nelson's kismet. Do Not sell the Victory -
@Brace67 The British utilized the maneuverability of ships, where as the French set their ships up the way an army would set their artillery. This gave the British a tremendous advantage. Also, the British were very keen on being able to fire their cannon the most often. The formula was 3 shots to the enemy's 2. At least that's what I read in the book "Jack Aubrey Commands" which is about the daily life of the British mariners from 1790 to 1820.
Nelson didn't drink rum. His bravery is a matter of record and of history. Trafalger was the greatest naval engagement fought up to that time and a tremendous defeat for the combined fleets of France and Spain, whose guns and ships outnumbered the British. I am American and not British but I can still recognize greatness and so does history and the world, long after October 21, 1805. Victory is what counts and annihilation of the enemy. That was Nelson's objective and that was Trafalger.
Nelson's letter to Antonio Gutiérrez: Theseus, in the suburbs of Tenerife, on July 26, 1797 I cannot separate of this island without it gives to V.E. the most sincere graces for his thin attention for with me, and for the humanity who has demonstrated with our injured men that they were in his power, or under your care, ......
yes it is still listed as active in the British fleet, however obviously it is no longer a war craft, it is now used for ceremonial dinners and as a tourist attraction, the tour is fascinating.
Luck had nothing to do with Nelson's resounding victory at Trafalger, just as it did not have at Cape St. Vincent, The Nile, and Copenhagen. He was fearless and a leader of great courage. He deserves all of the fame and glory associated with his immortal memory. Spain thought they had backed a winner with France. Nelson showed them and the world that Briton really did rule the waves. How many books or monuments exist about the losers at Trafalger, the French and Spanish? Rule Britannia!
@howtogetwell Silence can be made, you have "mute" option. But i am agreed that on certain videos music is just annoying, like motosport events where noise of engines does give great addition for feeling.
and Nelson didnt die where it says" here Nelson died", he died further forward of the ship because of the amount of men who had been injured before nelson was shot had filled all the space near the operating table...
He was possibly one of the greatest heros this country has ever or ever will see. He would be disgusted by the state of this country and the Navy now though. Rule Brittania
It is the oldest commisioned ship in existence, and not only did it see many battles but also a world war, it was damaged by a bomb during WW2...so yes, I think most of the timbers have been replaced. Nonetheless, everything else is the same as it would have been in 1805 :-).
Lord Horatio Viscount Nelson, the greatest man to have sailed the seas. we have a bronze statue of him erected here in Barbados West Indies apparently one of only 3 in the world. the other 2 are in Antigua in Nelsons Dockyard and the other in England. the one in Barbados being the biggest. Nelsons second home was Barbados and there he had a local girlfriend. the statue is very controversial here and only appreciated by the local British descendants and not by the slave descendants.
True, much of the timbers have been refitted too. It is to be expected of a ship that has seen so many battles. Is it not the oldest comissioned warship still in existence?
True but Those wars you mention where in the 17th century. HMS Victory was built mid 18th century and Britain gained suppremacy on the waters since Trafalgar in Octobre 1805. Offcours we will never forget the efforts of Michiel de Ruyter on his flagship the 7 provincien. (which is currently being build at bataviawerf, Lelystad)
HMS Victory looks as good as new. For indeed she is, nothing "original" remains of the Victory that partook in the Battle of Trafalgar, with the exception of a piece of sail.
Not sure if they're active, I took the tour a few years back and think that they may be ex service retirees. I used to go on to the Naval base down there on business and all the security people are ex sailors.
So much has changed now they have taken bits out of the Victory. That big painting of Nelson's death... it's gone, the life size wax work of Nelson himself that is also gone 😣 even the mast with the cannon ball hole through it is gone!!
come to england and you can, lol i'v been to the dockyard few times before and been in hms victory and warrior a few times its interesting to see and worth the visit. my dad being in the navy for 27years has obviously influenced me with the navy lol! but sod that haha
No luck was needed at Trafalger. The fleets of France and Spain were decisively defeated by the British. Spain learned that day that Britannia did rule the waves.
No luck, infact luck was against the British as they sailed into the enemy line at walking pace, very brave. 'I could not tread these perilous paths in safety without a saving sense of humour.' (Horatio Nelson) Maybe the trees were American I don't know and I don't think that anyone can categorically say that, but I do know that they were made into the Victory by English craftsmen in an English dockyard, and last time I looked Chatham still resided in Kent.
Hi. I'm just doing some research for a project. Was the wood for HMS Victory carved to shape on site at Chatham yard or was it carved elsewhere? Thanks.
beatifull ship.. its only a shame thats her stern isn't as decoritive as the Dutch ships of the line. but the where much older and shamefully there was no preservation of ships back then.
it is a magnificent ship i love it, i call my capitol ships after her on some of my games, the dam laber party make me sick on the amount of tax they charge and say this is too much to keep. its a pricless peice of history ffs
In the course of this battle Horace lose the arm, with quite these men they were demonstrating always entirety and honor ... they were other times, other soldiers, but especially they were other men.
I think that no laurel is deserved by the man who only expires with what the humanity dictates him, and to this there diminishing what I have done for with the injured men and for those that they landed, to whom devo of considering as brothers from the instant that finished the Combat. If in the condition to which he has led V.S. always uncertain luck of the War, I could, or some of the effects that this island produces,.....
..., him to be of some usefulness or relief, this one would be for me a real complacency, and I wait V.S. will admit a couple of limetones of wine, which I believe does not perform the worse thing that produces. will be of many satisfaction to treat personally when the circumstances allows it, to sugeto of so worthy and advisable articles(garments, securities) as manifest V.S.; And meanwhile I request God guard your life for lengths and happy years.
Oh, but are the people who maintain it active sailors of the Royal Navy? The USS Constitution is still fully active and maintained by active saviors of the US Navy, and they put it to sea once every year (maybe more), but yeah just like the Victory we're not going to send it to war.
I served on this ship from 1905 - 1907, a 2 year service, I am honored to see they still keep the ship free for all to visit.
Great Simply great I go aboard her everytime I visit the UK, when I was a child in WW11 I could see her from my classroom window, I migrated to Australia After the war some years after it sure made my day I have put it on my blog and linked you
My favorite Ship. Absolutely stunning beauty. I hope to one day visit. Cheers from Colorado!
Great Clip.
Without a doubt the worlds greatest Warship!!!
Great music too. Sums up Nelson's tactics perfectly!!
Thank you for posting, I only wish there were more.
What a beautiful vessel, a wonderful reminder of an era long since vanished.
Thank you, I am honored.
To Lord Nelson...
You shoulda ducked...🙂
@@philipcallicoat9947 been on board her on 31 July 2022
Thank you for posting this.
It is a great ship.
George Vreeland Hill
Beautiful and powerful ship, congratulations Lord Nelon, you are the best marine, rip in peace my hero.
...and for the generosity that had with all those who landed, what I will not stop doing present to my Sovereign one, and I expect with the time to be able to assure V.E. personally all that I am of obedient humble V.E. servant Horace Nelson
Great video, beautiful ship! I'm currently planning a trip to the UK and to Portsmouth to see HMS Victory and HMS Warrior.
don't forget to Salute her if your going by ferry. the modern Royal Navy has a tradition of Saluting HMS Victory as they are going pass her as they are coming into the dockyard
A very inspirational man! Thank you for what you done and you held on to your life long enough to here the words that you won the battle of Trafalgar.

a living legend , . history you can feel .
Excellent video. makes me homesick though!!
I live in Portsmouth and if you ever get a chance to visit our fair city then also visit the historic dockyard and HMS VICTORY

I love maratime history.I want to visit England and that titan of the seas.
I had an ancestor who fought with Nelson at Tragalgar - the Victory belongs in England and should never fall into foreign hands. Don't let this be Nelson's kismet. Do Not sell the Victory -

@MsGhekko I have learned this week that he is related to me as well, we found a family tree at my grandparents house! Its pretty cool!

its an amazing vessel, expecially if you go inside. i was in one part of the ship alone, and it was very eery
Yea I've been in the Swedish navy and I'm quite a boat fan, especially for the old ones
Majestuoso, HSM Vyctory, impresionante, Hermoso.
yes it is still listed as active in the British fleet, however obviously it is no longer a war craft, it is now used for ceremonial dinners and as a tourist attraction, the tour is fascinating.
she's still in service as the flag ship of the Royal Navy
ive been down below Victory and touced the keel, it feels like sponge.. feels great to be in places not normally open to public
very beautifull, been there last year, realy great.
Thanks a lot !

After Nelson's defeat in Santa Cruz, this one they are the letters that were sent after the British capitulation:
He was struck on the quarter deck, however he was in the midshipman's berth when he died several hours later
and Nelson didnt die where it says" here Nelson died", he died further forward of the ship because of the amount of men who had been injured before nelson was shot had filled all the space near the operating table...
@Brace67 I agree, Nelson was our best sea captain ever
Also Victory is not free floating, it's secured in dock, which I believe makes the USS Constitution the world's oldest free floating ship.
My favorite British Admiral.
Thx uploading.
Where is " England Expects Everyman Will Do His Duty"?
Wow, awesome! I would love to walk around in her
He was possibly one of the greatest heros this country has ever or ever will see. He would be disgusted by the state of this country and the Navy now though. Rule Brittania
Yeah they probably still have wardroom parties since victory is still a commissioned warship in the royal navy.
It is the oldest commisioned ship in existence, and not only did it see many battles but also a world war, it was damaged by a bomb during WW2...so yes, I think most of the timbers have been replaced.

I like it! I was wondering, is the Victory still sea worthy?
come to england and you can, lol i'v been to the dockyard few times before and been in hms victory and warrior a few times its interesting to see and worth the visit. my dad being in the navy for 27years has obviously influenced me with the navy lol! but sod that haha
No luck was needed at Trafalger. The fleets of France and Spain were decisively defeated by the British. Spain learned that day that Britannia did rule the waves.
I know but I was actually referring to the leadership qualities of both commanders.
To be sure I rechecked it. And the ships build was ordered in "July 1759". Which is mid 18th century right?
No luck, infact luck was against the British as they sailed into the enemy line at walking pace, very brave. 'I could not tread these perilous paths in safety without a saving sense of humour.' (Horatio Nelson)

Portsmouth would not be the same with the Victory. Cool ship with lots of history :)
I was born in the street in greenwich that was named after the deck were nelson died; The orlop deck on the flag ship HMS Victory.
I LIVE NEAR DAT :D WOO!!!!
Yeah the other one that was found was an older Victory I think, this was the one used at the battle of trafalgar.
Or maybe it was done on purpose, "Who fired that cannon? What.... we're at war?"
@Bonde2002 Thats the White Ensign, its the flag of the Royal Navy.
Of course, you are very right. My blinkered vision indeed.Nevertheless, kind regards to a fellow Anglophile.
Hi. I'm just doing some research for a project. Was the wood for HMS Victory carved to shape on site at Chatham yard or was it carved elsewhere? Thanks.
such a shame that its last voyage was before any video cameras where invented :(
did you know that the sailors drank the brandy that nelson was stored in.
singing " a little of nelsons blood wont do any harm"
@snipeforever
She's in Portsmouth
Ever herd of the battle of Cape St Vincent?
Aint she magnificent!!!!!!!!!!!
@Brace67 yes,and the luck in tenerife, cadiz , grand turk or boulogne
who do you reckon is better at leading a battle nelson or wellington?
amazing ship !!!
those wine bottles shown would never have been used on a ship - all bottles were wide-bottomed
not bad ;D
im not familiar with punds so my next question is : how many kilo is a pound?
beatifull ship.. its only a shame thats her stern isn't as decoritive as the Dutch ships of the line.
but the where much older and shamefully there was no preservation of ships back then.
No need to apologize. I wasn't saying it was your fault, lol. But thanks, I'll check the new one out!
@Brace67 Pluss the Spanish had the largest ship of the age the Santisima Trinidad, which counted to nothing lol !
Is it maintained by active members of the Royal Navy?
happy birthday nelson!!
it is a magnificent ship i love it, i call my capitol ships after her on some of my games, the dam laber party make me sick on the amount of tax they charge and say this is too much to keep. its a pricless peice of history ffs
