Where to start with Sparks..? What you've heard so far is not the most commercial stuff - "When Do I Get to Sing 'My Way'?" comes from the album "Gratuitous Sex and Senseless Violins", from around 1996. Going back to the mid- to late 1970s, you have "This Town Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us", which reached #2 in the UK in 1974 (too weird for the USA); "Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth"; "Looks, Looks, Looks"; "Something for the Girl with Everything", and more. In 1979, they collaborated with Giorgio Moroder - the two must-listen to tracks from that period are "The Number One Song in Heaven" and "Beat the Clock". They are still around - I'm going to see them at the Royal Albert Hall here in London at the end of May this year.

This is such an enjoyable song ! .. You clearly know Rita quite well, but you definitely need to check out more Sparks songs .. They have numerous albums full of wonderfully innovative and catchy material which is hugely under-recognised by most of the listening public .. Start with their quirky but brilliant "This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us" and then keep digging !
Their 27th album is out in May. New single is The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte. My favorite Sparks song is Dick Around.

It has to be heard in its long album version though to be really appreciated & you must try to play it on your show because your reactions will be totally off the scale. If you liked Bohemian Rhapsody then think again & double it! You'll thank me i know.
It'll be 50yrs this May since Sparks stormed into the UK charts back in '74 with their iconic hit 'This town ain't big enough for both of us' which reached no 2 on the pop charts. It's more than just a pop song though, more of an event but it's another one you really must listen to.
You've listened to four minutes of Sparks here but us longtimers have had over 50 years of fantastic music over 26 albums & multiple styles. My all time favourite track of theirs is a song called 'In The Future' from their '76 album 'Indiscreet'. You haven't heard total real bonkers until you've played this gem I assure you.
Please investigate them more tnougn cos I know you will ultimately get them & understand the genius within them. They are brothers by the way, Ron & Russell Mael, & come from LA. They had to come to the UK for their success cos America just weren't tuned into their radar & were a bit scared of them really.
Their classic album with Giorgio is the one you will love most I think. 6 tracks of pure electronic mayhem with Russell singing of the scales to 'I Feel Love' rhythms in a space disco heaven. Enjoy.

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Les Rita Mitsouko And Sparks. This song "Singing In The Shower" was released on on November 29, 1988 ( not 1989) as the second single from their third album "Marc Et Robert" (but first for the UK and USA), ranked No. 37 in the TOP 50 and also at No. 24 on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart.
The group Sparks composed of the two brothers Ron and Russel Mael created in 1968 collaborated on 3 of the 11 titles of the Rita Mitsouko album: Hip Kit (opening of the album), Singing In The Shower and Live In Las Vegas.
The music video was directed by British director Tim Pope, who had already collaborated with The Cure and Talk Talk.
FYI, This isn't the right version (12" extended) and for the video it is images from different TVs mixed with some images from the clip.

The 7" version is much better and for the clip, Catherine Ringer is as usual crazy and crazy in her way of singing but also when she sings face to face with the singer of the group, sometimes in a "state of trance" .

When I'm with you was originally on sparks 1980 album Terminal jive. They have sang it a couple of times over the years with Catherine ringer, most recently last year, the clip is on you tube from arte TV.
In 1988 1989 Sparks were out dated,, fighting against their drugs addictions and had no inspiration. Their last LP was... Weird. But the Rita loved them and wanted to do something with them. It was a redemption for the Sparks who return on the top (especially in France) and a consecration for Rita. Not a massive selling but u could hear it everywhere. In 1989 in France u still on a Youpi move (cocaïne and madness on hype parties) and this song is the point of this. A crazy and cool song for fun 😊
I wouldn't be sure about that drug thing but that's true the pressure for them to meet the expectations and their own artistic self too was bigger than being really inspired especially they first time worked in their own studio (and after that came the 'Mai the Psychic Girl' project also) so this song came at the good moment for them absolutely fitting to their once dry, other times bitng humour
I never heard this song. I prefer Singing in the Shower by Solid Citizens! Bit more of an aussie vibe.

This sounds like a different version to the one I have. This version doesn't sound as punchy. Still a great tune though.

Oui ça serait bien qu'il fasse certaines de tes propositions 80's que je trouve bien (on a à peu près les mêmes goûts) mais pour le reste des titres ou interprètes pas trop ma came!
Si t'aimes tout comme moi les 80's, je te conseille de fouiller dans sa playlist 80's (français + internationaux) mais aussi "Synth pop" et également "French Artists" si tu souhaites trouver de la chanson française toutes décennies confondues! 😉
Tu peux également regarder les autres playlists que tu souhaites par artiste par exemple. Au plaisir.
