is it common to have the door switches on the left side. We have some buses from Norway where the buttons are like that and my brain just cant work with it as we normally have them on the right next to the steering wheel

Yes, it is quite a common thing out here!
I have to say, I was really surprised, when we've got our MAN buses with door buttons on the right side! That's uncommon!
